La Residence Phou Vao

We have stayed at luxury hotels all over the world, but this is truly one of the very best we have ever experienced. I do not know where to begin — everything was perfect. This is the place to stay in Luang Prabang!! The service and the people are absolutely lovely. The breakfast and food are excellent. The room, the pool, and the view are all beautiful. The shuttle car is also a really great and convenient. I miss this place and these people so much already (checked out today)! The only downside is that the activities booked through the hotel are very expensive. But, all over: AMAZING. Do not think twice about booking this hotel. We also looked at other luxury hotels in Luang Prabang, and it simply does not compare at all.

This exceptionally well-maintained historic property’s secret is in its team and their unique sense of heritage and service. While the rooms are large, well appointed and the beds oh so comfortable, it was the special attention to detail we loved on our stay there. Decor in the rooms blends the modern, the slightly eccentric, and local craftsmanship perfectly. There are two closets making it much easier to unpack. Laotian style fans come with pool towels (and there is a basket full of sunscreen for those who forgot)... Beautiful hand crafted floral displays refreshed daily add to the spa experience. A selection of local snacks and drinks are offered as a post yoga treat. Gongs announce arrivals and departures. Local musicians play in the lobby on some nights. Local experiences curated by the team promise uniquely personal luxury adventures. The six gardeners tend to expansive, well kept gardens. The two drivers and housekeepers we met were genuinely kind and helpful. The assistant F&B manager and guest services Manager Andrei were very interesting to talk to as well. The resort, laid out on a hillside, does show its age in minor ways and is a bit ‘out of town’ (but only 8 minutes to the Night Market), but it is perfect for a truly relaxing getaway. (Thank you for a great escape and the wonderful parting gift - which we will leave as a surprise for others - they remind us to come back again.)

We had an incredible stay at the residence. We came for our honeymoon, and the staff did everything to make our stay perfect. The little daily attentions really touched us. The setting is exceptional, the view from the room is outstanding and the food is delicious! We only had one wish: to extend our stay… thank you to all!

Had the most amazing 3 night stay at La Residence from 12th to 15th Dec 2025, which was me and my mother’s first time visiting Luang Prabang. From the moment we touched down, to the moment we left, we truly felt we were attentively and considerately looked after, making for a truly world-class experience. Special shout out to the top-notch service of the entire team. From Tee at the front desk, to Lae and Saw of the dining team, and other members of staff, overseen by the most capable Parisa (Alice) and Andre, there were friendly smiles all around, and prompt assistance whenever we needed anything. The spa and massage facilities were amazing, and food was thoughtfully delicious, all freshly prepared at the establishment (check out the Khao Soi, sausages and fried rice). Rooms were modern, well furnished and very comfortable - the establishment has undergone an extensive refurbishment recently. The baths in the rooms are particularly enjoyable. All in all, an amazing experience - would definitely recommend it!
