Itinerary
The tour takes you to Congo Square in Armstrong Park. Guests will visit the traditional location for Voodoo traditions and gatherings for 100's of years.
Explore the vibrant heart of New Orleans, where enslaved Africans once gathered to practice their cultural rituals and music, laying the foundation for the city’s rich Voodoo traditions.
Discover the life and legends of Marie Laveau, the most famous Voodoo practitioner in history. Due to new security regulations by the Archdiocese of New Orleans pilgrimages, this tour does not visit St. Louis #1 Cemetery. Offerings to Marie Laveau's tomb are discouraged.
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story.
We end outside the Voodoo Authentica of New Orleans Cultural Center and Collections. You will have as much time as you'd like to explore after the tour. This is not only a shop, but also a temple and educational space. Everyone working here is a practitioner of Voodoo, and everything in the shop (save the African and Haitian art pieces) are made by local practitioners.

Just wow!!! Robi is an incredible educator, historian, speaker, high priest, peacemaker. I have gone on many tours around the world and this one by far was the absolute best. I learned so many things and was also taken aback by so many things. Just wow. And I love the way he spoke about people. So beyond impressed.
An overpriced and underwhelming experience. I was expecting a lot more, but most of the tour focused on rather uninteresting history, with very little engaging storytelling. Overall, it fell short of my expectations and didn't feel worth the price.
I took a tour with guide, High Priest Robi, and it was amazing! The crowd size was intimate, and was the perfect amount of time to both get to know Robi, the city, and each other! The overall atmosphere was cinematic, the perfect mix of humor, moments of silence to acknowledge past sacrifices, and heartfelt. The price is truly worth the experience, but I would recommend it more for adults or families who can handle discussing heavier topics (as mentioned in the content acknowledgement in the listing). Robi is extremely knowledgeable from both an academic standpoint and anecdotal experiences, which was a real pleasure to be let in on his personal experiences/how those practices relate in the larger story of the tour. He also made the point to share additional information before/after the tour, while citing sources throughout the visit, which made all of the vibrant storytelling all the more credible. This was one of the best tours I've been on in any city, and Robi's magnetic personality is something you have to experience for yourself. ╰(*´︶`*)╯♡
I was very fortunate to be guided through Congo Square by High Priest Robi on March 26, 2026 with my 8 friends from Montana. It was a highlight of our week-long stay. My friend Beth booked the event so not sure what app she used. I have witnessed few people in my life that are as moving, funny, informed, and life-changing as High Priest Robi. My friends and I are still talking about the experience.
High Priest Robi was nothing short of phenomenal! He was so kind and welcoming - my husband is recovering from back surgery and walking with a cane. High Priest Robi was so sweet and accommodating, he frequently pointed out places for Richard to sit during the tour. He is incredibly knowledgeable about Voodoo and Louisiana history, and he is a dynamic and fascinating storyteller. We were enthralled the entire time. At the end, High Priest Robi gave us an authentic blessing that centered around self love and care - it was genuinely beautiful. High Priest Robi is treasure - please do yourself a favor and experience this incredibly thought provoking, positive, informative tour!
Entertaining and educational. Had a great time. Robi is full of love and wisdom and he knows how to share both.
High Priest Robi is truly such a gem! He has such a wealth of knowledge and beautiful light. Best history tour I have ever gone on! He has great recommendations for everything you can think of. If you are new to NOLA he should be your very first stop to ensure you have the best time!
I truly enjoyed this tour it was the type of educational, fun, learning experience I was hoping for! Robi was phenomenal and full of light! Come with an open mind and heart and enjoy this journey!
We did both the afternoon Voodoo History tour as well as the morning tour with High Priest Robi. I HIGHLY recommend both for anyone interested in learning more about voodoo and it's history in New Orleans. There isn't much overlap between the two tours, and they're very different experiences. The time with High Priest Robi is something I will always remember and was a total highlight of our trip to New Orleans. Open mind is a must.
Incredible history and context, from one of the most interesting, inspiring and hilarious people that I’ve been lucky enough to meet. I went in without any particular expectation, on the recommendation of a friend and I’m so glad I did. I learnt a lot, got some tips on good reading and left feeling more informed, and seriously empowered to do my own research too.
Highly recommend high priest robi - a ray of light and a highlight of our trip!
Our guide (Matthew, I believe, I'm embarrassed that I don't remember) was literally a walking encyclopedia of all things voodoo but also all things history based in NOLA. We felt lucky to have him for this tour. He provides a non- judgmental space for learning & asking questions. We learned so much. This was exactly what I wanted, no hokey outfits or acting, just history. Thank you so much!
Sandy was a fantastic guide, and so knowledgeable! I really felt like I understood the progression of voodoo practice from west Africa to the states. She also dispelled some popular culture myths or errors in the perception of voodoo. The tour was a comfortable walking distance through Congo Square and into the Quarter. Would absolutely book with Tour by Foot again.
Robi is an exceptional person and guide. He was real and raw which I really appreciate. Very knowledgeable and has a great presence. You will walk away learning about New Orleans, voodoo, and yourself. Could not recommend this tour enough.
Robi is a treasure and joyfully imparts so much knowledge, history and love into his tour. This is the real deal New Orleans experience and was a highlight of our trip for my 50th birthday. Unforgettable and uplifting, this is a must do experience for anyone who loves knowledge, history and is ready to dive deep with an open heart and mind. A truely one of a kind teaching moment for me and my family to connect through story in hope and joy,
I had an incredible tour with High Priest Robi! I went on a tour with him back in 2018 and it was great to do another tour with him - this time I brought my whole birthday party of 40 people. High Priest Robi has a wealth of knowledge and reminds us of the kindness in our world! It's a MUST if you are in New Orleans!!
We loved our Voodoo tour with Robi. He was amazing. He provided great insights into the Voodoo culture. He was entertaining and was well educated. He didn't hold back facts.
My tour guide Matthew really knew his stuff - it was like a crash course in not just Voodoo but the whole city. I got context for so much. It's definitely a different sort of walking tour - we went to about 3 locations and stayed at each for a while - but no complaints from me, definitely best tour I went on this trip (and I went on like, 6 tours)
Sandy was amazing and so interesting and knowledgeable. I recommend getting her as your guide. She really knows her stuff we were blown away from her knowledge. I would love to just chat with her on all kinds of topics.
True and authentic history of voodoo origins and its' mingled history in New Orleans. Easy walking. Just enough to make you want to learn more?
My spouse and I began our trip to New Orleans with his blessing, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! This tour was interesting, engaging, and unforgettable. As a Black woman with Southern roots, learning the true history and nature of Vodou felt deeply healing and empowering. Robi teaches with such love, respect, and authenticity. What he’s doing is courageous and radical! I’ll carry these lessons with me for life.
If there is one thing you do when visiting New Orleans let it be this tour. Robi is knowledgeable, kind, and fun to learn about the history of Vodou and New Orleans from. Please book thru his website and not the Travel By Foot Tours site as booking thru his site is free and he doesn’t profit from the walking tours schedule fee.
My better half and I took the tour w Robi. If you're going to take a Vodou tour why not do it w High Priest? The tour is extremely informative on the rich history of New Orleans Vodou. Robi quickly dispelled myths about this beautiful religion. Robi is exceptionally knowledgeable, w the references to back up his stories. He adds a lot of humor to go w the terrible stories from the past. As a person of Native descent it was wonderful to hear how my ancestors helped enslaved people escape. Throughout the tour and afterwards Robi answers all questions. Highly recommend!
We spent the morning with high priest Robi and oh my was it marvelous. Beyond extremely qualified and knowledgeable this is apart of him and his family and his personal history. He made all of us laugh at some point he made all of us cry at some point and he taught with love and acceptance the whole time. Aside from recommending him to everyone reading this, I will 1000% be back to visit him again myself!
You have to do the tour with High Priest Robi. He makes it fun to learn history and he clearly knows his stuff. You will do a little(lot of) laughing, get a little sweaty, definitely learn something, and you just may leave a different person than the one who walked up to Armstrong park.
Historically based and very walkable. Lots of time to ask follow up questions. Just the right amount is sites in the right amount of time.
My tour with High Priest Robi was transformative. We learned so much - a blend of history and voodoo teaching made this tour unforgettable. Thank you so much Robi!
This tour with guide Matthew was excellent! It was dufficult to choose from the descriptions and reviews of all the voodoo tours, but we made the right choice! Matthew has in-depth knowledge about voodoo because he studied it and a good friend of him is a high priest who told him a lot of additional insights. Separating fiction and facts gave us the true picture! Catholicism and voodoo have a lot in common. He also told the real story about the doll and the pin and how it was used in the past and it is not like in films! We highly recommend this tour!
It was great to hear about the practice of Vodou from High Priest Robi. His first hand and vast knowledge paired with the historical context was perfection. The tour was fun and interactive. Highly recommend High Priest Robi. You will not be disappointed.
We had the best time and highly recommend High Priest Robi. We learnt so much and he’s such a lovely person and answered all our questions!
An absolute once a lifetime experience, every time you hear and see it presented. A must experience, host , presenter , robbie the Irishmen, presents a perfectly real aspect of the real life we live. Irs all robi's mum and dads fault. I will naturally recommend the exprrience to all , as I go. Much better than good. Cheers Cameron Bne, Australia
Excellent couple fo hours spent with Robi. Interesting, engaging, informative, entertaining, memorable. Probably very different from a lot of the walking tours in New Orleans and that's a good thing.
My boyfriend and I had the privilege of doing the morning Vodou tour with Robi last Saturday, and it was honestly our favorite part of our trip to New Orleans. You will learn about what Vodou is and is not, and may be surprised to learn a few things about yourself as well. Robi pulls no punches: be prepared to look in the mirror and see yourself and the world a lot more clearly, ready or not! I came away feeling like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders, with a renewed sense of self and my place in the world. Would absolutely take the tour again!
Robi was amazing, easily one of the best tours I’ve ever attended. Please don’t miss out if you’re hear in NOLA, this is a must.
Very educational and informative tour. Robi explained the history and culture of the area and the Vodou religion in an entertaining way, and debunked many of the myths and misconceptions about Vodou and its relationship to other religions, beliefs, and societal practices both historically and in modern times. This tour makes you think and examine your beliefs and preconceived notions. I highly recommend it.
Loved this tour! I don’t enjoy theatrical tours, I am more interested in factual & historical tours and this was that. Anna was amazing and very knowledgeable and you could tell she took pride in her research and tour.
Without spoiling the tour, all you need to know is that Robi is by FAR the best tour guide I ever had. They are full of wealth and knowledge, an unmatched energy and soul and overall a beautiful human. I was left in awe, wanting more, spiritually grounded and a new sense of self. Did I ever think I'd be crying at a vodou tour? Nope. Did I need it more then anything? Yes!!!!! Also, if you have or are wanting to see the movie sinners.or have seen AHS, I suggest you do a tour with Robi to clear up any confusion and misinformation that media spreads.
First time visitor to New Orleans, (from New Zealand), and not the last. In preparation for the trip I spent a year researching, scrolling, rummaging the net for any information I could get about the place. I found myself spending countless hours down many a rabbit warrens UNTIL...... I came across Robbie, boom! So, when we arrived in NOLA I was excited to learn that he was still taking tours. If you are looking for true blue, pull no punches, entertaining historical story telling - look no further! Robi is the real deal, a descendant from three plantations in St Francesville including the famously haunted Myrtles plantation, the Greenwood plantation and the Hollywood plantation where his family still live today - you can't get it anymore authentic than that. At the start of the tour he was able to sense some people in the group were feeling down, so he tailored the tour accordingly and we partook in a ceremony which was the icing on the cake. The tour is more than just receiving information - it's an experience. He takes your soul and senses on a journey that is heartfelt, funny, confronting and informative. We laughed, we gasped and for some, cried. He is a powerful soul who speaks the truth, a straight shooter. It was interesting to learn about the Voodoo religion and what it's not - thanks to Hollywood sensationalism etc. Experiencing Robi on this tour was a game changer, he has so much to offer. My only regret was not having enough time in NOLA to book another tour with him. Keep doing what you're doing, Robi.. thank you. *Make sure to the tip the brother some good coin.
I could type all day, but I’ll keep this short in hopes people actually read it. IT'S SIMPLE: If you're in New Orleans, GO ON THIS TOUR. A remarkable tour with the unforgettable High Priest Robi. With truly (no joke) encyclopedic knowledge and welcoming, engaging delivery, he paints a vivid and thorough picture of Voodou culture, its history, its practition, and its interlinking with the rich history of New Orleans. Robi radiates the positivity and reverence of one devoted to their heritage, and generously shares that energy with each of his guests. I learned more on this tour than I did from every other NOLA museum or tour combined. You’ll walk away wiser, moved, and with a fuller connection and understanding to your surroundings, and of a culture too often misrepresented and misunderstood.
We loved this tour. Just the right mix of history, mystique, and humor. Our tour guide Evian was exceptionally knowledgeable and personable. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour!
High Priest Robi leads an entertaining tour which is also informative, historically-based, and personal. Highly recommend his tour!
Evian did a wonderful job, taking the group of us around the French Quarter! Not only did he go into detail about the Voodoo history & traditions but also about the city in general.
This was an incredible experience. If you're going to do anything Voodoo related in New Orleans, start with this tour so you have a reputable knowledge base. This was a highlight of my trip
⸻ The Voodoo Tour in New Orleans was an amazing experience! It was both educational and entertaining, filled with fascinating information about the history and culture of voodoo. Our tour host was perfect—knowledgeable, engaging, and explained everything in a way that was easy to understand and really brought the stories to life. This was my family’s first time in New Orleans, and we were also celebrating my birthday, so it made the experience even more special. We all had a great time, and I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city. It’s truly a must-do!
The BEST voodoo tour I have been on! Robi, a practicing voodoo priest, was able to tell you the real voodoo religion and what it truly represents vs what Hollywood has led us to believe. He was not only was he educational but he was entertaining as well. I would heed the description that he does talk about some difficult topics that might trigger some people and young kids might not be the best audience. I wish we had not time to talk with him. I would take this tour again.
I cannot say enough about the authentic tour given by High Priest Robi! If you want to learn about VooDoo but skip the sensationalism of Hollywood this is your tour. Very child (all ages) friendly (and dog friendly too!!!). Engaging, interactive, and NOT about walking around to look at houses. Instead, learn about Voodoo and the role it plays in NOLA history, from a place of inclusion and love.
We´ve done the Voodoo tour with High Priest Robi and I couldn’t recommend it enough! You need to go if you want to learn more about Voodoo and New Orleans/Louisiana history. The tour was educational but also fun and inclusive. You can go with your eyes closed - Priest Robi is amazing! Thanks a lot!!
If you truly want to learn more about voodoo as a religious and cultural practice, this is for you. Our guide studied voodoo extensively and was a fount of knowledge on history, cultural practices, and common misconceptions. She really brought the history to life. This shed light upon an important piece of NOLA history for me and I really enjoyed it.
This was the most enjoyable tour I have ever taken. Robbi was so informative about New Orleans and Voodoo really explained.
