Itinerary
Head inside The National WWII Museum with your general admission ticket and start exploring the captivating exhibition space at leisure. The Museum tells the story of the American Experience in the war that changed the world—why it was fought, how it was won, and what it means today—so that all generations will understand the price of freedom and be inspired by what they learn. Guaranteed to move and educate, The National WWII Museum features interactive exhibits, soaring aircraft, personal histories, and more. The heart of the Museum experience, Campaigns of Courage: European and Pacific Theaters brings visitors inside the story of how the war was won. Two immersive exhibitions—Road to Berlin: European Theater Galleries and Road to Tokyo: Pacific Theater Galleries—feature environmental exhibits that guide visitors chronologically through the narrative of each theater of combat, using a sophisticated mix of set design, narrated and environmental videos, period newsreels, interactive oral-history kiosks, personal and digital artifacts, and dynamic displays for a uniquely evocative experience. How long you spend inside the museum is up to you! If you are hungry or simply want a break from exploring the exhibits, visit the on-site American Sector Restaurant + Bar and take a step back in time in BB’s Stage Door Canteen, a 1940s-style entertainment venue that showcases the music and performers of the war years. Food and drinks are at your own expense.

There is a great intro film. Restrooms and restaurants are plentiful. Do not order the gumbo at American Sector. There are several buildings so the layout is confusing. There are many volunteers stationed throughout to offer helpful directions. Some takeaways for me: There was a lot I did not learn in school. Many non-soldiers were killed so the total, worldwide number of deaths was a staggering 65 million. The Holocaust is described, bringing it to the attention of some who would not go to a Holocaust Museum. Then Gen. Eisenhower made some hugely important decisions and I can see why he was elected President.
Very informative. A lot of purple hearts. Very informative. A lot of purple hearts. Would recommend.
I liked this place a lot, it was very informational and huge. We booked it for the last few opening hours. It wasn’t crowded and we went at a great pace without feeling rushed.
This is a good museum but walking through you would think that WWII only started after Pearl Harbour and that America was the only Ally nation. I get that I’m in the US but museums in the UK about WWII mention everyone’s involvement in the Allied war effort. Yes, there are the odd mentions of other Allied nations (for example photos of the leaders of each Allied nation) but everything is so America-centric it overshadows an otherwise good visit.
An unforgettable experience! We chose The National WWII Museum in New Orleans as the backdrop for our Compass Military Division party, and the team absolutely knocked it out of the park. The interactive movie alone was worth the price of admission. It was powerful, immersive & deeply moving, leaving many of us in tears. As a retired Navy veteran, it hit especially close to home and brought a profound appreciation for the sacrifices of those who served before us. Hosting our celebration in a place with so much history and meaning made the evening even more special. Whether you’re planning an event or visiting New Orleans, I highly recommend making time for this incredible museum. It’s an experience that stays with you long after you leave.
Our guide was wonderful. He effectively used maps to explain the course of the war and then show the main artifacts. He explained how the war in China effected events. One shortcoming was a lack of information about the impact of Hitler invading Russia. There were also some good films to illustrate the conflict. You could easily spend a day in this vast museum.
Allow yourself at least two hours of time to make the trip worthwhile. They're are multiple videos within each of the five building to watch
Fabulous museum with so much information, beautifully laid out and so well done! Do not miss the beyond the Borders video!
This museum is excellent. It's not like the stodgy "Look at the uniforms" type of museum. It has multi-media presentations as well as charts and chronological panels to show exactly how Hitler moved across the world. Films of world leaders addressing the crisis are plentiful, and you simply MUST see the film compilation of those freed by the allied forces from the prisons of concentration camps or hide out areas when the war came to an end. It's in the Liberation Theater. Note: just let yourselves flow through the museum. It's not always easy to "pick a place" then find it. (Many levels to navigate). But there are a lot of volunteer helpers to help you on your way. This museum is incredible. Don't miss it.
The museum is huge! It’s definitely an all-day event to see everything there. The exhibits were extremely informative. Definitely be sure to get a dog tag of a soldier so you can follow his journey as you move through the museum.
Very fun, very educational, worth every penny. It was nice to see everything in perspective rather than in a textbook
If you have any interest at all in WW 2 this should be a must. We just spent 5 hours at the museum and could have stayed longer but had another engagement. I would suggest a minimum of two hours but you would not get the full scope of it all. They have done an incredible job and should be proud.
Takes time here, dont rush many videos and information give it at least 4 hours, also sub experience last show is 415pm and the movie is 315pm, so plan more time for those experiences.
We arrived at the museum in the afternoon, and only had time for the highlights. They did an excellent job explaining the war through movies, artifacts, testimonials, and clear signage. We especially liked the displays in the “Road to Berlin” and “Road to Tokyo” areas. Take plenty of time in both, you see some incredible things like Adolf Hitler’s teapot and silverware!
This was a well set up museum. I was bummed at first they don’t really offer an in person tour guide, but it’s because it’s an easy set up to follow and as you go along there are spots where they play a video and I think it would be hard to have someone talk during those. Otherwise I almost think this is a two day event. The museum is huge. We spent few hours there and still didn’t get through everything. I would come here again.
This is a great experience for teens, adults and seniors alike. This immersive museum tells the story of WW2 in a way that is both honest, real and honoring to all sides of the story and the way it played out. Having visited many museums in the US and abroad, this truly is in my top 3. Well worth the price of admission. Even with only a couple of hours to spend there, plan on spending more time than you think to soak it all in.
The ticket line was skipped since purchasing online which was very nice and convenient. There are several ads on options available at the ticket window that are not available online. There is so much to see, learn and enjoy the extras were not necessary. Actually will plan to go back as there was so much information.
This is a MUST SEE museum while in New Orleans. We spent here 3 hours and were sorry to leave . The movie was overwhelming as well as the amazing exhibition
This an excellent museum with lots of interactive exhibits that convey personal experiences from WWII. Plan to spend at least 6 hours to see and do everything offered. There are several places to grab some food or a drink when needed. Don’t forget to go across the street to visit the Motor Pool before you leave.
Ticket includes access to all 7 buildings but we opted not to visit them all as we didn’t realise how big the museum was. As UK visitors, we found the focus on the Far East conflict to be very informative as we so often focus on Europe. It was a ‘warts and all’ presentation showing both successes and failures of the allies. We found this refreshing from the normally idealised approach of some museums. We thought the holocaust aspect was particularly well delivered, extremely informative but respectful
If you appreciate history and US history, this one is for you! This isn't your ordinary museum. It is so immersive of the time period. From the presentation, the flow of the museum itself, the interviews/recordings, the list goes on and on and on. We went in around 2:30pm and the museum closes at 5pm, we could have easily spent another hour there! So definitely give yourself at least 3 hours at the museum. We strongly recommend the 4-D movie experience. Unlike any other "movie" we'd ever experience. It's narrated by Tom Hanks which was a nice touch with the familiar voice. Definitely recommend!
Very nice museum Not much large hardware Focus is on small items and the experiences of the people. Very varied room setting to help you feel the story.
Excellent museum! A must see. There are so many cool things to see. Lots of walking. It’s cold in there, bring sweater!
Fantastic! Don’t miss this! Only one negative is the restaurant. Ordered a chicken sandwich. The piece of chicken was about 2x2 inches. I thought it must be a joke. Two bites. Ridiculous!
Was an amazing experience and there is so much to see there. Give yourself plenty of time.
Admission fee is great for the size and exhibits. If you really enjoyed watching the videos and learning more details of WWII, it's definitely going to take you more than 3 hours. Plan a full morning or afternoon and even a meal in or near the museum. A beautiful museum and quite impactful. I
had to make changes, but I had the most great time. I suggest everyone should go there and see the history of WWII, but make sure you book though Viator.
We spent 5 hours on a self guided tour and could have taken more time. The guided tours were difficult to pass through or hear over.
Phenomenal; well done exhibits. So much to see, recommend spending all day or even more than one! We will return
It was awesome. We all loved the interaction dog tags. Hearing the service people’s experiences. Definitely worth going.
Wonderful museum. Very informative. Easy to go thru. Non museum people willl even enjoy the experience.
Wow. Unbelievable. We are going back again today. You need many hours but so worth it. Wear comfortable shoes@
Visiting the WWII Museum was an incredibly moving and overwhelming experience. The depth of the exhibits and the personal stories of the men and women who lived through the war brought history to life in a way I wasn’t expecting. An unforgettable experience that should be experienced.
Wonderful day out! Excellent exhibitions and theatres!
Great museum, the best experience, well laid out and learned a lot at WW2.
Our 15 year old daughter specifically requested to add the museum to our recent trip. Bought the tickets a day ahead. The building is easy to get to, walkable from CBD and French Quarter. I still think it interesting to put this particular museum in New Orleans, but I’m glad they did. Best advice I can offer is take the minimum amount of time you think you’ll need to see the 5 exhibit areas and double it. We were there for 2 1/2 hrs and didn’t cover half before it closed. It’s an immersive museum, so it’s hard not to get sucked into the details. But WW2 deserves that attention, and I’m glad we gave it the time in our trip.
Very detailed, lots to see, you can do this place in a full day, you learn a lot about world war ii, and it's organized in such an intriguing way.
Amazing museum! I would recommend the guided tour and the Without Boundaries movie! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and covered all aspects of the museum in just 2 hours. You can park across the street in WWII Museum parking deck. They have 5-6 restaurants at the museum. We ate lunch at the American Sector. Very good service and the food was great. The gumbo appetizer was great. We have made multiple trips to this museum. Every trip has been better and better. They are constantly updating the exhibits, improving the experience, etc. Highly recommended!
Fantastic facility, very well organized, wonderful volunteers. One day isn’t enough!
It is an amazing museum wish we had more than 3 hours to spend there but we did quite a bit in that time . We skipped the merchant marines and finished the rest of the museum .
Knowledgeable staff will answer questions and direct you where you want to go in this huge museum. So much to see in so little time we had. I was impressed with the collections and informative boards. To take everything in you will need more than a couple of hours. They also have a restaurant in case you want to take a break to eat.
This is a wonderful museum. My opinion would be that it is not for children. It's a large space requiring alot of walking, but it is worth it. Plan on 3 to 4 hours at least. Very informative about America's involvement in WW2.
We are from the DC area so we are used to visiting museums. This museum is appropriately huge and information-packed. The features of the museum, including the boats, planes, and other real 3D items were great. From soldier stories to the experiences of the public during and after wartime, the museum provided a comprehensive overview of the impact and enormity of the subject matter for the people visiting. Another impressive thing was the perspective of the war from allied civilians and the choices to go to war. There were also very appropriate inclusions about the cultural issues and achievements that occurred because of (and in spite of) the war. It was not too focused on weapons or on politics, but offered the usual treasure trove of machines and technologies. It did, however, focus appropriately on the themes of freedom, tyranny, and the human experience on and off of the battlefield. We were especially enamored by the theme on rebuilding after the war and the huge responsibility the Greatest Generation had to rebuild our civilization. We will definitely be going back!
Very interesting and knowledgeable place. Beautifully laid out and everyone was prepared and professional
This place is massive! Very interesting and informative. You could really do a whole day in there with plenty to do. The admission fee is kinda high but I think it is worth the admission.
The museum was a wonderful experience. There was so much to see, but not enough time to see it all. I must return.
Absolutely amazing. All war theaters covered, exhibits realistic, good use of medias to maintain interest…….who knew a plane could be suspended from the ceiling.
I visited the WWI Museum in Kansas City and it was amazing. The WWII Museum did not disappoint. It told the story from all perspectives. Very moving experience!
I wish the museum would have some information about the colonialism of the multiple European countries prior to the Japanese invasion during WWII, totally ignoring it is just not right. Other than that the museum is very interesting, so much information, my 6 hours definitely were not enough
