We had an amazing experience visiting the Louisiana Sugarcane Museum at St. Joseph Plantation! Gregg S. was incredibly informative and knowledgeable. We truly appreciated him taking the time to share the history of the plantation and explain the process of how sugarcane was harvested and manufactured. Since this was a combo tour, we also had the pleasure of spending time with Mike at Felicity Plantation. He was equally knowledgeable and did a wonderful job explaining the plantation's history and how mattresses were made and maintained back in the day, including the interesting role of the bed's headboard roller. Discovering that one of my favorite movies was filmed at this very plantation was an added bonus! Both tours were fascinating, educational, and thoroughly enjoyable. A huge thank-you to Gregg and Mike for sharing their knowledge, passion, and time with us. It was truly an amazing experience and a wonderful day!

An Absolutely Wonderful and Memorable Experience! We had an amazing experience on the St. Joseph and Felicity Plantation Tour! Our group of seven included our 3-year-old, and every single tour guide (we were blessed to have Sylvia, Simon and Mike) went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They were incredibly knowledgeable, personable, and passionate about the history they shared. They even made an effort to keep our little one engaged while also being so understanding and patient when he got a little loud or made some noise. Everyone went out of their way to make sure we felt comfortable and welcomed, and they took the time to answer all of our questions—even going above and beyond what we expected. It’s clear that the guides truly know their history and approach it with care and respect, which made the experience that much more meaningful. We cannot recommend this tour enough! Whether you're traveling with family, young children, or adults, this is an experience worth having. Thank you to the entire team for such a memorable, educational, and welcoming visit!
The best thing about these 2 tours was that the guides were local!! Sharon’s family had a plantation in the area and Mike grew up on the other side of Oak Alley. We basically had private tours since no one else had booked that time. Wonderful afternoon!
We were very glad that we booked the combo tour of both plantations, both guides Mike and Robert were excellent and gave us a good insight into the sugar industry and life on the plantations for both the owners and the enslaved lives. You need to go to the store located in between the two plantations first to buy your tickets.
Mike and Sylvia were the best guides full of knowledge and all the history of the buildings. So happy the descendants of these families are preserving these homes to share with the world.
We arrived on a very hot Sunday. We were the only guests. Had private tours of both homes. The guides were so welcoming. I felt like an invited guest of the family - not a tourist. They were very knowledgeable of everything about the history of all the families that owned the property. I learned a lot about the history of the sugar plantations and industry as well, as the land is still being farmed. I am definitely glad I chose this 2-for-1 option vs the other plantations. Side note, they do have original slave quarters still on property, but you cannot go in them. In case that matters. You can look in them. Some are sitting in their original locations and some were moved to be restored (delayed from hurricane damage). both tours were extensive and not rushed at all. Definitely worth the drive out from NOLA. It's confusing on the website - you go to the store between the two to purchase tickets. Depending on when you arrive, they tell you which house to tour first - then you have a short time to head over to the other one.
Our tour guides, Sharon at Felicity and Mike at St. Joseph’s, were amazing! Very informative tours.
My mom, best friend and I had a WONDERFUL time touring the St. Joseph and Felicity Plantations! Greg was our tour guide at St. Joseph, and he was fabulous! Funny, kind, patient and he shared LOTS of great information about the history of St. Joseph. We had no idea there was so much history about these amazing homes! After St. Joseph, we moved on to Felicity and were warmly greeted by Mike. He was so much fun! We could tell how much he truly loves his job and the Felicity Plantation. Mike gave us LOTS of great information about the Felicity Plantation as well. Our group had SUCH a great experience at both plantations. Bravo, Greg and Mike! Keep up the great work!!
We stopped by at the St. Joseph Plantation to do a tour on May 30th, and we were the only ones there. Greg S was our tour guide and he was interesting, informative and very personable. Best tour we have had because we were able to take our time and ask questions. Very good tour and worth stopping here to take it.
Local gal Sylvia gave us a thoughtful and informative narration about the history as she knows it firsthand. Splendid. My wife and I were Sylvia’s only guests at that time so felt we got a nicely personalized version maybe the adult version. She is a delight. We learned enough to write a short book. Thanks Sylvia. Great guide makes a great tour
Even late in the day that we toured, Robt Pew narrated our tour with great ease and an obvious vast knowledge of everything important in the plantation. We much appreciated being there with Robert; we had him all to ourselves - great. We’ve toured 50 mansions or way more and it is the quality of the guide that carries you to a memorable experience every time. Thank you Robert.
I went with a family who visited us from Los Angeles to explore St. Joseph and Felicity Plantations, and we had a great time. Our tour guide Robert P. is very knowledgeable and we learned many things about sugarcane plantation, history of the family who owned the plantation and the tour is worth it!
Very knowledgeable tour guide, friendly and answered all our questions. Loved the combo tour, as we were easily able to see two different styles of plantations in a couple hours total. Learned that these two plantations and Oak Alley are all connected by the same family, which was interesting to learn!!
Mike O. was our guide at St. Joseph's and Silvia was our guide at Felicity. They were both very knowledgeable, amd personable. The tour was awesome. I felt comfortable asking questions, and they were all answered.
you must find own transportation to the plantations and the in between route to & from each plantation not a lot talked about relationship with slaves & owners
Lots of history and very interesting. Mike took his time touring us through the premises. We were the only guests so it was a private tour. He is a local and knows the area well. We enjoyed this!
We planned a last minute trip to see the plantation. We booked all 4 tours, Laura, oak alley, St Joseph and Felicity. The St Joseph & Felicity was by far our favorite ones. Sharon and Jamie we so friendly and knowledgeable and if they were clear on the things they did not know by saying “it’s possible or we believe” this tour was more hands on and one on one.
We visited this plantation immediately after touring Oak Alley. The two are vastly different and offer very unique experiences. While Oak alley is large and beautifully maintained, it is also heavily toured in large groups and is typical museum atmosphere. St Jospeh/Felicity is still owned by the descendants of the original owner so while it is not maintained like a museum, it feels more original. The experience was much more personal and the ability to take photos inside and outside of the homes was a plus. The tour guides at both homes were excellent.
We had an awesome tour with Mike O. Highly recommend you consider this when considering any plantation tour. Knowledgeable and great presentation.
We toured both homes, and thoroughly enjoyed the tours. Our tour guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. They took their time, did not rush us and answered all of our questions. We highly recommend taking these tours, but be sure to bring cash if you plan to tip. There’s no ATM on site.
We had the tour at St. Joseph with Robert and Felicity with Jamie. The guides were very enthusiastic Both tours were very informative and we learned a lot from the family, the houses and the sugarcane plantation. Too bad there was not much to see of the cottages and the lives of the slaves. Nor was much told about it. We found the tours personal and we like that. It wasn't grand and touristy.
