Friendly and knowledgeable tour guide. Glad we booked this walking tour on our overnight visit to the area.
We had a wonderful experience on our New Orleans Secrets walking tour with Tylyn Anson. As a local resident, he was incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about the history and culture of the city. Tylyn showed us all the key sites, answered every question we threw at him, and made the tour feel both fun and informative. He also gave us excellent food and live-music recommendations he shared along the way — they helped us enjoy New Orleans far beyond the tour itself. Highly recommend booking a tour with Tylyn. He made our first visit to New Orleans truly memorable!
I have been to New Orleans many times but this was the first time for my adult daughter. While I had enjoyed the French Quarter often I had never gotten a guided tour and I thought my daughter would enjoy the tour. We both thoroughly enjoyed our guide Ty and her explanations of the history. She was very informative, giving up a lot of backstories to the monuments and buildings.
Great way to get to know the French Quarter if you love the history of places! Our guide, Ty, was very knowledgeable about the area and an excellent story teller. He also gave outstanding recommendations for food and drink options after the tour.
Excellent guide with superb knowledge and very interesting stories. We highly recommend the tour Learned a lot!
So Entertaining - What a blast! There are so many things that go into being a stellar tour guide: topical knowledge, of course, but reading the group to know WHICH knowledge to share, awareness of surroundings, mobility and speed of the group, storytelling (versus lecturing) is huge, verbal skills, being personable and vulnerable enough to show personality…our guide, Ty, checked EVERY box! So glad I trusted New Orleans Secrets with our precious vacation time! I’m now obsessed with learning more about Micaela Almonester, Baroness de Pontalba!
We did the historic tour of the French Quarter with Dennis. It was an amazing tour. Very informative and a lot of fun. We had a great connection with him right from the start and the tour felt very personal rather than some that can feel like you schlep along while being read a script. He had so many interesting fact about the architecture, the culture and tons of great recommendations. Highly recommend!
Dennis was absolutely wonderful! He had a passion for the history of his city and it showed. We learned so much about the architecture and history of New Orleans, it was even more fun to discover fun facts and tidbits about the homes and what they’ve inspired over the years. Definitely recommend!
A wonderful mix of history and lore that kept my kids and me engaged throughout the tour. Highly recommend
Angela was great! The tour was a perfect mix of historical background, architectural details, local gossip and New Orleans legends. We had arrived a little early at the designated meeting spot, so we walked a couple of blocks to the west of the Lafayette No. 1 cemetery. When Angela arrived, her walking tour included a fascinating discussion of the cemetery itself and highlights east of the cemetery. So coincidentally we got a wonderful overview of the entire Gardens District. Highly recommended!
Great cocktail and french quarter history tour! This is my 3rd time and the tour keeps improving. Best way for visitors to the quarter to get the lay of the land. Highest recommendation!
We took this walking tour with Dennis and he was incredible! Unfortunately there were torrential rains but Dennis was a great sport, getting us under cover when he could! He was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and loved questions. I'd highly recommend this tour!
We took a French Quarter historical ghost tour with Roger and it was great! He was extremely knowledgeable about this history of the area, the buildings we stopped at and any questions we had. The tour lasted about 2 hours and was entirely outside, with periods of short walking and standing. Would definitely take a Secrets Tours again when i'm back in town!
We absolutely LOVED our Ghosts of the French Quarter Tour! Roger was knowledgeable and captivating. I love when a guide gets to know the group dynamics and plays into them with his humor. As we walked around in our group of 6, we saw big groups where the guide had to yell or was dressed up for the tour. It was nice to be in a small group with a tour guide who kept it real with us. The stories really do tell themselves, no need for the cheesy theatrics. Plan to arrive 15 mins early so you can get a drink before you begin! Roger and New Orleans Secrets Tours killed it. That eye contact though <3
Great food tour. This tour took us out of the French quarter, saw another part of New Orleans. Lovely area. Walking tour with a variety of food items. We learned tons. Very interesting, light fun information about local foods. Perfect option for a afternoon, even my husband who does not like much, thought this was well worth the time, worth of money and generally fun. The portions are smaller to allow touring several locations. Left very full.
The “Ghosts of the French Quarter” tour was amazing! Take this tour! Our small group tour walked past so many huge groups of 30+… so glad we went with New Orleans Secrets! Learned so much history about the city with a haunted twist. Tour guide Roger said he only tells stories he is able to prove with evidence which I appreciate more than a theatrical tour. Very spooky and so much fun!
We started our New Orleans vacation with the French Quarter history tour. Our guide, Dennis, was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful with recommendations on what else to see and where to eat. We saw sights and learned history we would not have known without this tour. Our Voodoo history tour was with Evian. He was also very knowledgeable and friendly. We learned so much about Voodoo history. Both tours were amazing and we would strongly recommend anyone visiting New Orleans to take these tours. You would miss an important part of New Orleans if you don't learn its history. The history makes the city and its famous sights so much more interesting.
This tour was so great. We passed many other tour groups - many of them giant. I don’t know how they heard anything! Roger was an amazing guide - very kind and knowledgeable of the area. I really appreciated that the tour was based on facts. Would definitely recommend choosing this company over others - and request Roger!!
Dennis was very knowledgeable about The Garden District. He was delightful to listen to! He answered our questions all along the tour. We learned so much about the famous people who lived or now live in the area.
On Sunday, September 3rd at 7:30pm, my husband, sister, and myself embarked on the best ghost tour of the French Quarter. Our guide, Roger, expertly set the scene at each stop of the tour. He covered historical and contemporary ghost stories of the FQ backed by journal entries and court cases. 10/10 recommend! Moreover, this particular company caps their tours at 8 people which makes the experience all the more intimate. This was our third walking tour in the short time we spent in New Orleans where we didn't have to crane over others to hear, or spend time being worried about where the overcrowded group could srand. More quality storytelling, if that's the experience you are after- this is the right place!
The customer service of this company was incredible. I had to cancel our tours and rebook 6 weeks later due to Covid and they were extremely kind and helpful throughout the process. We did the Magazine St Food Tour first and it was so fun. Our guide was Roger and he was really cool. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. It was so great to sample so many different types of food. Highly recommend. Our second tour was the Ghost tour with Ty and it was incredible. She knew all the ins and outs at every stop and had SUCH interesting stories. You could tell she was so passionate about all of the history she was sharing with us. As a history major, I also loved that she was upfront about some stories that have become part of accepted folklore but weren't necessarily true. For instance, she would say, "A common myth about this person is that they did X but what we know from eye witness accounts is that X is what really happened." We passed other tours as we were on ours and the hosts seemed to be monotone, reading from a script and not really moved by the material. Ty reminded me of my history professors. I cannot recommend these tours highly enough. Small, engaging, and super interesting. Not the cattle calls and groups of literally 50 tourists and their bored kids that we kept passing as we walked. THANK YOU NEW ORLEANS SECRETS!!!
Dennis provided a great tour of the Garden District. Answered all our questions, and just had such a depth of knowledge about the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour!
We attended the Mysteries of Voodoo Tour. Pros: Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and provided information on the history and culture of voodoo. It was interesting and it was a small group, making it very interactive. The walking distance was short and we often stopped in shady areas. We met at a local restaurant and got frozen drinks to take on the tour.. highly recommend! Cons: The tour was to be 2 hours; however our tour ran ~30 minutes longer. While we appreciate that the tour wasn’t rushed, if other tour attendees have questions, please limit the information provided so we can still end on time.
Roger was an amazing guide who knew detailed histories about the drinks and the history of New Orleans. We had an amazing time on our tour with just the two of us and him. Would love to take one of the other tours with him.
We had our guide, Dennis Dale for both a tour of the French Quarter and the Garden District. My wife and I enjoyed these tours immensely. We found Dale to be personable and had a lot of information about the area. He adapted his approach to meet our interests. We were very pleased when he e-mailed us with answers to questions we had on the tour that he needed to look into. Really appreciate the follow-through.
We did the French Quarter Cocktails and History Tour with Roger. He's terrific! We learned a lot about New Orleans and about the drinks we had. Roger is patient, and encourages questions. He has an amazing knowledge of the city. We were very happy when we found out that our Foodie Tour later in the week would also be with him.
The cocktails walking tour was great. Our guide was very personable and knowledgeable. Guests purchase drinks according to their wishes/desires.
This was an amazing tour. The guide, Angela was fantastic. She was, friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and a great communicator. Her explanations were more like stories and not just rote memorization. Everything was perfect. There were only 2 of us, so it was a private tour. The cocktails were great, she made great choices after inquiring about what were our likes and dislikes. Take this tour. You won't be disappointed.
Ty is awesome, she has a ton of knowledge about facts and myths. We felt lucky to have her with us and in a group of 5 that allowed for more personal interaction, thanks to the tour company for that! Beware of other tours, we noticed they had massive groups that looked disengaged. We finished the Ghosts of the French Quarter tour with a positive story and a nice souvenir. I highly recommend Ty, she was very respectful of the information, places, and people (dead and alive) in the tour.
I was sooo happy this tour was based on fact and included some of the fiction promoted by "ghost tours." Roger was great differentiating the history from the mythology but also sharing some fun distortions commonly used by other tour guides. In fact, as we passed other groups I could overhear the exaggerated stories being told. The tour is long and, unfortunately, my hip gave out due to the lengthy time standing but it was worth every minute we spent to learn about NOLA history.
This is not just a tour; it is a great history lesson of the French Quarter and New Orleans in general. The tour guide also throws in 4 - 5 examples of history that ensue in paranormal activity in certain locations. It is a very informative and small (intimate) tour with only 8 people. Roger just spoke to us; no loud voice was needed in this setting. I highly recommend this tour if you are in the New Orleans area!
Dennis was our guide for this tour. Dennis has tremendous knowledge of the city which he told us comes from personal experience, years of historical research combined with his curiosity for all things French Quarter. As a long time resident of the New Orleans area and an excellent story teller, Dennis taught us a lot about the French Quarter and made things so interesting that the time seemed to fly by. What we learned about the French Quarter left us eager to learn more and motivated to go out adventuring. Dennis’ knowledge makes us want to do that adventuring with the New Orleans Secrets team.
Roger was GREAT and hilarious! He even gave us lots of tips and recommendations for the rest of our trip. The food at all the stops was great! Definitely couldn’t have gone to all these places in one day on my own. The portions were great! I was stuffed by stop 2! I highly recommend this tour!!
We took 2 tours with New Orleans Secrets — Garden district and French Quarter Ghosts — and both were great. The guides were passionate, animated and informative with juicy tidbits, yet kept it factual, rather than cheesy or exaggerated like some tours. It felt very personal and the groups were small which kept everything conversational. As I walked past giant tours with 25+ people, I was happy we chose this tour company. Would definitely book another tour with them!
My wife and I did the French Quarter Ghost Tour and the Magazine Street Food Tour, and both were fantastic! The small tour groups make for a great experience that is more personalized with more interactive discussion and questions. Roger was our guide for both tours, and he was a phenomenal guide. I highly recommend these tours. They are very informative, and the food tour was delicious with great portions.
Roger was such an amazing and informative tour guide! Our group wanted to get out of the traditional food tours of the French Quarter -- the food tour on Magazine Street did not disappoint. All of the locations were accommodating, clean, and presented some of the BEST food we had during our stay in New Orleans! Thank you New Orleans Secrets (and Roger)!
We were visiting New Orleans for my birthday in January and thought that the perfect way to cap off our night would be to hear ghost stories of the French Quarter. Our tour guide met us in front on the vampire store and we were off on a two hour walking excursion hearing about all the history making up New Orleans with 5 stops in front of particular buildings where spooky activity is reported to occur. We had a great time, our guide was extremely knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. We saw lots of other tours out on the streets and were so happy with our choice of tour company because instead of 30 people we only had 7 in our group which made for a very intimate, personable tour.
We did a private Cocktails and History tour for my daughter's 21st birthday. It was awesome! Ty is a terrific guide and took us to some great places, which we never would have gone to on our own. The pace was very relaxed and we learned a lot about the history of the cocktails as well as about the history of New Orleans and the French Quarter. We've done just about every tour available through New Orleans Secrets, and they are hands down the best. Small groups and extremely knowledgeable guides.
I went on the french quarter history and cocktail tour with my girlfriend and we had an amazing time! Roger, our tour guide, was wonderful. He was very knowledgeable and did a great job of teaching the history of the city while keeping it fun. Plus, delicious drinks! Would recommend to anyone interested in French Quarter history and a few good drinks.
