The bus ride was long. The plantation was beautiful. I don't think it was worth almost a whole day. Vacation tome is valuable

Itinerary
You'll be driven to the Oak Alley Plantation House, located about an hour and a half outside the city of New Orleans.
The tour of the Oak Alley house is conducted by guides in authentic plantation style apparel. Walking is required for this tour. The distance from the plantation house to the restaurant and souvenir shop is about 1 block. There are benches along the path, shaded by the Oaks. The guided house tour will be about 35 minutes in length. The remainder of your time will be spent self-exploring the grounds. If you use your time wisely, you can grab a sandwich at the gift shop for lunch and still have time to walk the grounds.

Our tour bus driver was great(I think name was Jackson?) The Oak Alley Big House was really interesting & that guide was very informative. Very eager to answer questions. I liked that a handicapped participant got to see a video of the 2nd floor, since he couldn’t do the stairs.
Very nice tour worth it very knowledgeable people doing the tours. The grounds and information on sugercane was interesting
The driver and the Plantation tour was great and educational but it did say city tour and I assumed we will actually go in the city but we were given information of landmarks we saw while passing the freeway, we were never near it except the plantation itself
This tour highlights the history of the property. Not so much about slavery. So if I come back I would definitely do the Whitney plantation.
I visited Oak Alley Plantation over the weekend, and I really enjoyed my experience. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and well maintained, making it a great place to explore and take photos. The first part of the visit was self-guided, which gave us time to walk around and take everything in at our own pace. The guided tour of the Big House was the highlight of the visit. Our tour guide, Anthony, was incredibly informative, friendly, and welcoming. He shared so much history and answered questions in a way that kept everyone engaged. Overall, I had a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend visiting if you’re in the New Orleans area. The beautiful scenery, fascinating history, and excellent tour made it a memorable visit.
It is a beautiful place. I am glad we went. Unfortunately I couldn't make it to the house tour. They had told me that it was not wheelchair friendly I had hoped that I could do it with my walker. Nope but I sent my son to the house tour and I just enjoyed the beauty of the grounds. It was still worth the trip.
The tour was great! Our shuttle driver however was very rude which was unfortunate and set kind of a bad mood for the start. The rest of the experience was fantastic otherwise
Donna and Gary are very nice! Good introduction of the New Orleans!
The plantation house was interesting to look round and some history to the families that lived there.
The bus ride was a lot longer than I expected and the description said professional bus driver/guide with New Orleans history He was not a guide. We received no information during this long trip. When we arrived at the plantation, we were told to walk around on our own and we only received a half hour tour of the plantation owners home and they were not dressed up in period costumes. The description of this tour was very deceiving and I would not recommend this experience.
Was wonderful experience the driver was very enthusiastic very friendly very good costumer service,I will recommend this tour with all my friends and family ,at the plantation the people there where very nice and helpful the tour guide lady was very knowledgeable about the Oak Alley plantation love history very happy experience.
Visiting the Oak Alley Plantation was a wonderful way to experience a piece of such important history. Whereas we enjoyed the tour very much, a few quick notes: - if you are picking up from the Roosevelt Hotel, please specify on the ticket that you will be picking up from the back entrance; we almost missed our pick up - we could have used at least 30-45 minutes extra at the Oak Alley Plantation; this may be possible if you run this tour on its own, instead of pairing it with the Swamp Tour after. The drive back was much longer because we had to drop off the guests who would take the Swamp Tour option. Last but not least, our driver Keith was a delight: funny, personable, a great ambassador for your company and for New Orleans!
We did the oak alley plantation half day tour and it was excellent. Reggie picked us up and made sure everyone got to and from the plantation in a timely manner. The tour was educational and informative. I would recommend this tour.
drivers were great and Oak Alley was very interesting. My only complaint has Nothing to do with Viator or tour. The road construction was horrible !!
It was nice. But the driver should have been a little more informative. It gets boring on the ride back
We were really looking forward to this tour and while the house itself was beautiful and impressive to see, we did leave feeling a little disappointed. The property and the home were certainly well maintained and visually interesting, but we had hoped to learn much more about the history — particularly around slavery and what actually took place in the house. Given the significance of that part of the story, we expected a deeper and more detailed discussion. Unfortunately, we left feeling like we hadn’t learned very much, which was disappointing. We truly believe there is an opportunity to share more meaningful historical context and insight, especially about the lives of those who were enslaved there. With more depth and substance, this could be a far more impactful and educational experience. It was too much about the owners of the house as opposed to the oppressed history and slavery which is what we wanted to learn.
The plantarion is worth the visit but I did not enjoy the experience overall. From the beginning we were picked up at our hotel by Alert Transportation and the driver didn't greet us, neither responded to our greeting. Then he sped all the way and we felt like sacked potatoes in the van, to just park and have us to wait 20 minutes before the transfer to another van. So what was the rush for? Then the next driver treated us like children making strong remarks to use the bathroom. We are not elementary school, but adults. Then she took about 20 minutes to charge last minute people that join the tour because she didn't know how to use the card machine and went on a endless speech how many technicalities her job requires. I don't need to know that. Then we drove one hour to the plantation with a deafening beeping sound alerting the waters levels in the van were low. Don't they check their cars prior to transporting people? Inside the Oak Plantation the tour was rushed, no time to see the pieces only to hear the guide, who made excessive warnings aa don't touch, don't seat, don't lock, etc. Then I ordered a drink at the mansion but the card machine was not working, wasted 15 minutes until she accepted my cash. In the end of the day we are on vacation to have fun. We sign for tours and expect enjoyment and basic standard of professionalism that were not met in this tour. Be aware that they only drive you to the plantation, nothing else.
We loved our driver and our tour guide Mackenzie. Very interesting. Pralines and mint Juleps were delicious. The plantation is very beautiful with interesting history.
We had the best experience with our driver and tour guide, Lorraine. She taught us all about the history of New Orleans and surrounding parishes. She was a great driver. The state of the tour bus was impeccable. She was very courteous and made sure to check in with us to make sure we were comfortable regarding the air conditioning. I cannot give her a higher review. She was fantastic! As for the entire tour itself, we were very, very glad to have been to Oak Alley, which is beautiful. The tour guide of the house itself, Marcus, was also very well spoken, and very well informed and was a great teacher. The mint julep was very very good and the pralines are the best in the area. Even the employees and their gift shop were absolutely lovely. I highly recommend this tour.
This tour was great! The tour guide was awesome and the grounds were absolutely beautiful. So glad we did this tour !
We had a wonderful experience. Shout out to the driver I appreciate his kindness and patience in getting my belongings back to me. The property was gorgeous it was where Interview with the Vampire was filmed I would have appreciated a more robust historical background that focuses on the enslaved experience as opposed to the celebration of the economic sugar boom ie sugar theater
I spent a wonderful half day at this plantation and took amazing photos. The place is well maintained and the staff very friendly.
A very interesting and beautiful place, a pleasant and informative experience, full of history, and the guide was clear and friendly.
Everything was as stated. A little more time to walk around would have been nice. The gardens are beautiful and the grounds are meticulous.
Oak Alley Plantation is a lovely location, beautiful house, and grounds. The oak trees are particularly impressive! Our bus driver, Keith, was fantastic!
We all enjoyed this excursion. Great little half day trip from NOLA. Excellent view at the history. Would recommend.
Really good trip, picked up from the hotel. The plantation was lovely (although I am a fan of amazing trees, and there were some amazing 250yr old Oaks on the drive). Great tour by the Plantation Foundation lady (Jackie, I think). The only downside was that we were not dropped back at the hotel and had to walk three blocks.
Great experience. Our tour guide was amazing and knowledgeable, and he was open to any question we had. A gift shop is a must, those jams and the ladies that work there are amazinggggg💜
Efficient pick up with a knowledgeable and friendly driver. The plantation was beautiful and the tour was informative and insightful. Like taking a step back in time.
It was wonderful. The plantation was breathtaking. I highly recommend going to Oak Valley. The tour was very informative and provided historical context. The house and slaves quarters were well preserved. The bus driver was friendly and competent.
The experience was spectacular. From the transportation to the plantation to the tour within. The gift shop and restaurant workers were knowledgeable and extremely friendly.
Tour was just as described. A good history lesson. Both driver and guide were very knowledgeable of the plantation.
It was a great visit and our driver was so funny. Even though it rained throughout he made it comfortable by ensuring AC was on in the bus. The plantation is pretty impressive and this one also has slave quarters so definitely a plus compared to the other plantation. A guide provides historical context inside the mansion. The souvenir shops and restaurants are nice. The grounds are awesome in Spring and Summer especially the oak trees! They pick you up and drop you back at your hotel so that was nice.
Excellent experience in visiting Oak Alley. This my second visit to this Plantation and very impressed with the tour guide and the staff.
Oak Alley Plantation was a fabulous experience. It was so worthwhile. Our driver, Lorraine however was preoccupied while driving the bus which was dangerous. She was fidgeting with her phone and had a clipboard out and was trying to read it and mark things off while on the freeway.
The home is lovely and well cared for. The stories are terrible... value of the slaves, how they were traded, bought, sold and treated! Horrible to think how cruel humans can be. But the history lesson is absolutely worth it. Would gave been nice to have more time in the rooms. No photos are allowed in the main house at all which was bothersome to me.
The start to this trip was chaotic. We were picked up at our hotel and we were the only ones. Then we drove to another hotel and were told to get off that bus and get on one in front of us. Of course that one was packed and the only seats available were in the back. The driver was telling stories on the drive to Oak Alley but her microphone didn’t work! The grounds of Oak Alley were stunning and was worth the chaos.
I did a half day tour , next time I come bad to NOLA would do the full day tour. The only think I wasn't pleased with hour transportation driver had the air on blast we were all cold ok the bus trip over and told the bus driver , she was sweet lady but she kept the air on because SHE was hot!
Trip was well organised, picked up from our NO hotel. Our journey to the plantation was narrated by our driver, who explained buildings and events of the area as we passed through the different districts. Plantation house tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and was open to any adhoc questions. The house and grounds are beautiful, and packed of so much history. Highly recommended.
The tour guide was very informative during the tour of the house. We toured the slave cabins afterwards and the displays were very informative. Lastly we viewed the video on the sugar making process which was also very informative.
Transportation pick up was great. Pick up window is 30 minutes from the start time. The house was beautiful
Bus trip is shared with travelers continuing on for a swamp tour. That makes the return trip to New Orleans longer. Also, the bus ride was rough and noisy. Seemed like one or more wheels were seriously out of balance.
Take time to allow the lessons to become part of the way you make your decisions. Many people need to learn to change their mindset about their history.
Pick up was on time, comfortable transport. Lovely drive to the Plantation. Great historic experience and great display and depiction of the status quo of the past. I would have expected more information and insight about the slaves and the trading. It would have been more effective if a guide could go around the slave quarters with the tour group to share information about the slaves and their living experiences. It seems as if that information was not to be shared for what it was. All the focus is on the owner and his family. Even the video focuses on the sugar cane production and nothing about the slaves. In that way not so great.
Just relax and enjoy. There is so much to learn about history during this trip. Also if possible, pick a day with a good weather, everything looks better with a nice sunlight.
Oak Alley was a very educational experience. Our guide Kaylee (sp?) was super informative and brought appropriate humor to a period of history that is dark and often difficult to confront. Oak Alley has done a great job of recentering the narrative on the people that actually built the mansion rather than those who lived and exploited people there. I imagine a lot of people are hesitant to go on a "plantation tour" assuming it simply glorifies the antebellum south. Oak alley is not that. It's better and necessary for a country that desperately needs to confront its past in an honest way.
Stunning Gardens and views of the house… Fabulous tour guide he spoke very clearly and was full of interesting facts
The entire experience was excellent and very informative worth the price. Would definitely do it again!
Sharing slavery history with my son. How your anserory was bought over from Africa and sold to oppressors.
