Oak Alley has beautiful grounds. The actual house is ok. The swamp tour was great. Ian was a great guide. He tried to avoid the airboats, which are horribly loud . He gave the alligators a treat- it's not what you think it is. I would definitely recommend the swamp tour.

Itinerary
Oak Alley Plantation Tour: The Greek revival home dates back to 1837. Located on the grounds, is a restaurant, blacksmith shop, souvenir shop and antique farm equipment. It is a comprehensive plantation experience. The tour of the Oak Alley’s house is conducted by guides in authentic plantation style apparel. Walking is required for this tour. Plantation house to the restaurant and souvenir shop is about one block in distance. There are benches along the path, shaded by the Oaks.
The New Orleans swamp tour boats are fully narrated and our captains are natives of the Barataria Swamps with a background of gator hunting, fishing and trapping. They will entertain you and amaze you with the ecology of the swampland. They have lived the life! Here, birds, snakes, turtles, fur animals, and gators are the kings of the swamp and easily spotted in spring, summer, and fall. Gators do hibernate during the cold winter months, but lay on the bayou banks on warmer days. So even in Winter, our native Captains can sometimes find a sunning Gator on our tour. The slow drift of our tour boats through moss draped trees and small waterways, will provide ample opportunity for viewing and photography. Your comfort is guaranteed on our tour boats. They have a roof, restroom, cushioned seats, and windows that can be raised or lowered during cold or rainy weather, along with plenty of standing and walking room. These tours are entertaining, educational and exciting.

The tour was very good, starting with the bus pickup near my hotel out to both the Oak Alley Plantation and the Alligator Boat Ride. The traffic in N O. was very difficult due to Halloween week. The Plantation itself seemed very sterile with exhibits minimalized relating to the slave quarters. The Alligator tour was thrilling as we saw 3 gators and a family of raccoons. Didn't know if there was an option upgrade to a jet boat at the dock.
Well organized and coordinated. The whole experience was new and exciting for us. Love seeing beautiful places and learning about the history. We saw a 13 foot alligator and the guide gave it marshmallows! Great time all around.
I went on combo Oak Alley/SwampBoat tour. All of the bus drivers were great! We received an excellent narrative by the driver of New Orleans and surrounding areas. Oak Alley plantation tour was extremely disappointing. The tour was for half an hour. There were over 30 people on the tour and the tour quide gave a robotic presentation. If you want a positive plantation tour do the Laura plantation. The swamp boat part of the tour was enjoyable.
Amazing, great tour guide in an outstanding setting and very informative. Facilities excellent. History realistically and respectfully explained. The swamp tour was unbelievable. Tour guide was incredibly helpful informative and delivered the tour with ease. His enthusiasm was fabulous. We saw the swamp inhabitants in their natural environment. Truly worth every single penny. Exceptional value for money. Thank you for making our trip so enjoyable.
Plantation tour was OK. The swamp tour was amazing. Captain Ernie was so educational and really funny. We saw lots of alligators, which was so fun.
If you want to visit a historical mansion then this is the best tour to book. The tour guide was so good in history telling too. Nice ambience and peaceful surroundings.
Our drivers Barbara & Keith were fantastic & great drivers. The plantation tour was very interesting & informative. The bayou cruise with captain Bobby was great & a highlight. Only one thing from the whole day I’d like to see change -I found it disturbing the feeding of marshmallows to the wildlife to encourage interaction. Personally I’d prefer less interaction to protect their health, wellbeing & environment. That aside the tour was a great day out & will recommend.
I have mixed feelings about this tour. The hotel pickup and drop-off were very convenient, and our bus driver from the hotel to the plantation was wonderful. She did a great job driving while also giving us an overview of the area along the way. That said, for the price of this tour, I think there should be both a dedicated driver and a dedicated tour guide. Asking one person to drive safely while also providing commentary doesn’t seem ideal. The plantation tour itself was led by a plantation employee, so it felt like we were mainly paying for transportation to and from the plantation rather than a guided experience provided by the tour company. The highlight of the day was definitely the swamp tour with Captain Ernie. He was fun, engaging, and genuinely passionate about the land. Hearing his stories made the experience memorable, and my family specifically waited to get on his boat because we had heard such great things about him. One disappointment was that some of the promotional photos showed visitors holding a baby alligator, and I was expecting that to be part of the experience. Unfortunately, that wasn’t offered during our tour. There is an opportunity to purchase lunch and drinks at the plantation, which is convenient if you’re hungry. However, the food was very disappointing. It will do if you need something quick, but don’t expect a great meal. Overall, the transportation and swamp tour were excellent, but I expected more value for the price, especially when it came to the plantation portion of the experience.
Both parts of the tour were great. Wish we could have seen more of the Oak Alley house. The swamp tour with Captain Ernie was terrific! You could tell he knows the ecology and biology of the area. Very educational, and fun. He explained why May-September are the best months for this tour if you want to see alligators. I will never look at a swamp or bayou the same way again. The only thing I would improve on is making sure guests know that the pick-up time is a 30 minute window.
The plantation tour was very informative. The house and grounds are beautiful. The swamp tour was my favorite part. Our guide, Captain Bobby, was amazing. He was very knowledgeable and gave us quite the show with feeding marshmallows to the alligators, petting them, kissing one on the head, and picking up a baby gator. He’s the guide you want if you do this tour.
Despite the rain - we had a great time at the plantation. Our swamp tour was fantastic - Ernie was great - very knowledgeable and really good fun.
Long ride for a brief experience. Always a possibility of severe thunderstorms curtailing activities. Rough riding van. Bayou tour should be called alligator tour, few other animals. Guides and drivers are patient and entertaining.
The plantation was beautiful and the guide was very informative. The swamp ride also did not disappoint and we were able to see several gators. I traveled with my husband and brother and our only complaint was that we felt rushed at the plantation especially in the guided tour of the main house.
Multiple bus transfers, with several hours spent on buses. Little time spent at Oak Alley to fully explore site. Wife got sick on bus from lack of A/C and ha had to return to hotel missing the second part of our tour.
Excellent tour guides for both places. The plantation was beautiful and the swamp was fun. Dewey is the guide to hit up for the swamp!!
I give 5 stars for the swamp tour. Captain Dewey was wonderful. We would definitely do that again. The plantation was disappointing. We only seen three rooms and the curator did not say much about the history. The slave quarters were “recreated”. Disappointing. The ride home we didn’t get dropped off at our hotel (where we were picked up) , we were told to get out and walk two blocks.
Two great tours in one! Great value, easy instructions and pick up. Tours were great for a first timer in NOLA. Dewey was great at the Swamp Tour and the Oak Alley Plantation was beautiful. The tour guides were knowledgeable. Packed a lot in. Highly recommend.
The adventure was at a good pace. Kenny was terrific and hummm funny. Plantation was interesting and located at a lovely setting. Lots of replica household furniture and items.
Everything was great from pick-up to drop-off, Tour guide was very informative, polite, funny, and a great hostess.
We were both amazed by the view and horrified by the cruelty that the slaves endured. The tour guides were friendly and knowledgeable.
Take the tour! So convenient- hotel pick up and driven to both locations, plantation and swamp tour. The muffuletta and mint julep at the plantation was great. The plantation tour and exhibits were educational. Captain Bobby, our swamp tour guide, was awesome! He pointed out the eagle’s nest, a yellow footed egret, and lured alligators with marshmallows. Got to hold a tiny baby alligator. Great experience!
The experience was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the tour guide. I gained a wealth of knowledge from the Oak Alley Plantation and Swamp tour.
I would recommend the trip. Everything was organized and it was nice to be picked up right outside our hotel. There is considerable amount of drive time. Plantation tour was nice. The swamp boat tour was great! Captain Bobby was very entertaining and informative. Saw multiple gators close to the boat. We did the covered boat ride, the airboat ride is loud!
The plantation was stunning with just enough time to see everything but the swamp tour was hands down the best part of this tour. Could not recommend more!
Everything was on time and well run. And yes, the boat guide made sure everyone saw plenty of alligators. If was a beautiful and fun day.
It was well organized. Plantation guide and the swamp tour captain were both very knowledgeable and entertaining. They used their time well.
The plantation is beautiful! The tour guide, Marcus did a wonderful job explaining the history of the house. Transportation was prompt. The ride to the plantation was long but interesting. It would have been nice to have longer at the plantation so that we could have explored more and had a sit down lunch in the restaurant. The swamp tour was amazing! Captain Be Bop is a true steward of the swamp. His knowledge of the flora and fauna was vast. He put us all at ease and made the tour very enjoyable.
The whole experience along with the guides was excellent the guides are very knowledgeable. I couldn’t give it a 5 star review because the driver was extremely rude and yelled at me when I was trying to figure out if we were getting on the right bus. He was rude to the other passengers getting on as well. I had never been yelled at or treated in such a demeaning way in my life! I’d say I would recommend it but hopefully you get a good driver.
I did this trip as a solo female traveller, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Pick up from the hotel is convenient and on time; the ride was fun: the driver shared with us diverse information from his experience growing up in Louisiana, and he also showed us a few other plantations as we drove by. The bus and the boat comfortably accommodated all of us, so it did not get too crowded at any point of the day. I did both the plantation and the swamp tour, which was a full day of exploring. However, there was no food included; I had to buy something to eat from the restaurant on the plantation (the food was good, but I just wish there were some sacks included in the price we paid). I absolutely loved the plantation tour, and the swamp tour was also fun, so I totally recommend this trip. However, some downsides, as experienced by me, were the fact that 1) there were no snacks included in the price we paid, 2) the fact that our bus broke down while we were going to the plantation and we had to wait half an hour on the side of the highway, and 3) the fact that I initially wanted to do the 10:30 am trip, but one day before it, I was called by the booking agent and informed that I was the only one taking it, and so I had to take one at 8:15 am (so, you mught need to be flexible with your traveling plans). Overall, I do recommend this trip, but be aware that some things might not go as planned, and that you might need to pack a bit of food.
Realize that you won’t have any time after the house tour so you have to see everything else before you go into the house. The grounds are magical. Remember that the front oak alley is opposite the slave quarters. The whole experience was educational and I wish we had more time.
The Oak Alley and Swamp Tour were great. The guides were knowledgeable on the subjects and love the history. Our driver was great. He gave us insight on the areas to and from the destinations.
The transport drivers were wonderful and very personable despite the tourists. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and helpful.
Overall, it was pretty good. But the content about Oak Alley Plantation seems incomplete; it does not provide a detailed introduction to the slaves' quarters.
Tour was great ! Pick up and transfers were wonderful. Drop off was horrible!!!! Our tour operator did not drop us off at our hotel. She said she did not want to sit in traffic. Left us .3 miles from our hotel across a 4 lane street with a disabled 76 year old. Note: Driver said there was a parade … not near us. We walked to our hotel not seeing a parade. She told everyone to get off the bus because she did not want to sit in traffic, Most people were young, but for our disabled mother it was awful.
Great excursion! Originally I booked with another company but saw that we had a little bit of a walk to the meeting spot so I rebooked with this company instead - pick up was right on time at our hotel and off we went to Oak Alley, which was a sugar plantation. We had enough time to do the house tour, view slave cabin exhibits, get some lunch and shop for souvenirs. This was the 3rd plantation I've been to, and while the oaks were absolutely breathtaking, the grounds were not as extensive as Mt Vernon in Virginia or Magnolia in Charleston - both those places you can spend a whole day bc there was so much to see. By comparison this was much much smaller. The next stop was the swamp tour - it was a blustery day so not much wildlife out except for various birds (bald eagle, heron, etc) and one small alligator. The highlight was Capt. Bobby (who was great) showing us his pet baby alligator and giving us all a chance to hold him and take pics! We also got to peek in the bayou which this tour company took Disney sketch artists to for Princess and the Frog inspiration! Lovely full day excursion and well organized - highly recommend!
This was a great tour as we didn’t have a car in New Orleans to do it separately and glad we did it. Could have done with a bit more time at oak alley or to have the choice of the house tour or more about the enslaved history tour rather than only being able to go inside the house which was ok. The exhibits in the slave houses though were good and informative. The swamp tour with captain beebop and frank was great. We loved this. We were lucky to hit a warm December day so the alligators did come out. I would recommend the tour if you can’t go yourself. Pick up and transport to/from hotel was good and efficient
The Swamp Tour with Capt Ernie was an absolute treat. His knowledge and humor made it an engaging tour. Would highly recommend Ernie for any visitors thinking of the boat tour. Oak Alley was nice visit. Interesting to learn about the plantation and history. The restaurant and cafes have good food after a full day driving and tours.
well worth the money and just long enough to enjoy but not so long that you exhaust yourself !!!!!!!!
The bayou tour was excellent. Captain Ernie was very informative about swamp life and alligators. A must do! The plantation tour was disappointing. Focus was on the families living in the big house. They “white washed” the lives of the enslaved and provided little facts. A few buildings but no interactive discussions. Not enough time allocated to see all the grounds. Focus here seemed to be on the restaurant and gift shop. All our drivers were great! Giving interesting insights into New Orleans life past and present.
Both tour’s were very well organised and extremely interesting. The swamp tour was funny and educational
That feeding alligators with marshmallows should be illegal, while the boat captain keep doing it and harming the wildlife. Our boat captain also had a small alligator that he let pet to the 30ish people on the tour - this should also be illegal! The tour at the plantation was nice.
Everything was great from staft to finish. Our bus drivers Gary and Keith were lovely. Keith had everyone in hysterics. He was great. The plantation was beautiful and very interesting. It was good to learn the history behind it even though it has its darker parts too. The swamp tour was incredible. The guide was fantastic and again really funny. We had the chance to hold a baby alligator which my friend was so happy about. I would highly recommend this to anyone
Very informative, enjoyed both experiences. The length of time for both visits was adequate. The commute time was a bit long, and no drinking fountains were available to refill a water bottle on a hot day.
Just as described. Distance a pain but not able to be adjusted. Driver very nice and humorous. Well done.
A surprise booked by my wife turned out to be the highlight of our New Orleans Holiday!!! Met by Clark and our driver at the Riverfront and departed at the appointed time for a drive along the highways and byways of Louisiana being educated by Clark our excellent guide. On arrival at the plantation we had some time to use the restrooms and explore the grounds before entering the plantation house. Here we met Jackie who I must say was so knowledgeable about the history of the plantation she made it come alive again and was extremely patient in answering all questions. Then time for lunch before boarding the bus for an onward journey to the swamp. Here Captain Danny took over our tour. What can I say absolutely fabulous, entertaining and knowledgeable about all things in the swamp. Many thanks to all who contributed to a memorable day, a must for our.
Good balance of a guided house tour plus personal exploration of the Plantation surrounding the house. Beautiful Oaks throughout in addition to gardens, and interesting historical info and replica of Slaves living areas,
Breathtaking Beauty! The plantation was a sobering reminder of our nation's foundations and beginnings. We walked through slave quarters and into the Big House, wandering through lavish gardens and under the 200+ year-old oak trees. The guides were historians and archaeologists well-versed in the plantation. The swamp tour is out of the pages of "Where the Crawdads Sing." We saw alligators, large and small, meandering through brackish waters. Our swamp guide was entertaining, but knowledgeable about every tree, insect, and alligator, trade routes, and water systems. Definitely a must-do if you visit New Orleans!! This is the real New Orleans. The price was reasonable and well worth the time and money.
The plantation was beautiful. The tour guides knew their history very well and gave us a wonderful understanding the life and history of the people who lived and worked there.
Absolutely fantastic trip - would highly recommend. Saw about 30 gators, raccoons and birds. The boat captain was brilliant.
