This was a worthwhile tour! The bus on the way had AC and our driver Amber was great! She told us stories of New Orleans, personal and historical. She kept us entertained on the ride and pointed out landmarks to us. She was always available for questions and very friendly! We stopped first at Oak Alley which we were excited about due to the beautiful house and row of oak trees resembling Braithwaite Manor in Red Dead Redemption 2. Being able to go in a tour in the house was informative and the self guided tour around the place was easy to follow. The refreshments stand outside the house has a delicious mint julep which was refreshing on the warm day. There’s a cafe and restaurant here to fuel up prior to going to the next stop. Whitney Plantation was the highlight of the tour. Focused entirely on the enslaved peoples’ perspective with a heavily researched story, it was impactful and informative. Self-guided with audio devices (or you can download the app and use your phone). I recommend starting outside first and then going around and spending time inside reading the other exhibit and getting something from the shop before leaving. This tour was well worth it for the experience and knowledge gained.

Itinerary
Whitney Plantation is an eye-opening and immersive experience. This plantation was founded in 1752 and it has become a valuable source of information about the lives of the people who lived, worked, and died here during times of slavery. This five-hour tour not only provides visitors an opportunity to discover more about this part of American history, but it also serves as an insight to those who were affected by slavery. When touring the Whitney Plantation, guests can view original slave cabins, exhibits featuring artifacts including clothing, tools, furniture, and even old sugar cane fields. There is also a chapel onsite that offers spiritual guidance for descendants of slaves still living in the area today. The Whitney Plantation offers visitors an unparalleled glimpse into our nation’s past while providing education and remembrance for those who have been impacted by the dark history of slavery in America.
Oak Alley is an antebellum plantation known for its stunning 300 year old alley of oak trees. This plantation was built in 1839 and faces the Mississippi river. These unique tree formations and the beautiful grounds in combination with the colorful history make this a must see destination while you are in New Orleans. After both locations have been visited you will be dropped off back in downtown New Orleans locations.

Karen was our bus driver and she did a fantastic job. Very friendly and knowledgeable. The Oak Alley plantation was great in terms of beauty and seeing the replicas of the slave quarters. The Whitney plantation was great in terms of learning about slave history. I highly recommend!
Very convenient tour to go to two very different plantations, if you don't have or want to rent a car. It is as described. It was a small group tour of <25 people which was great with a comfortable smaller bus. Our driver Danica (sp?) was very welcoming and pointed out landmarks on our drive over, as well as shared more about bayous etc. Note that there is no Cajun Encounters guide (other than the driver). At Oak Alley you join a group tour led by one of their docents (which you can join even if you went on your own), and at Whitney this tour includes a self-paced audio tour ticket (not the guided tour Whitney offers). We had enough time at each place (~2hrs at Oak Alley and ~90min at Whitney) though we hit traffic on the way there. Back by 4:30pm. I'd recommend some clear signage at the pickup spots, especially the one near the HI hostel.
Dwayne from Cajun Encounters was our driver. He took us to Oak Alley Plantation and then onto the Whitney plantation. He was on time and concise in instructing us when to return to the bus, etc. He gave us a nice introduction to each site and what to expect. Everything went smoothly and I would recommend this tour.
The plantation tours were a sombering experience to see what the slaves went through and the conditions they endured. It was a great experience and Ira was an excellent driver, to and from each of the sites. I highly recommend everyone go to learn about them.
This was a very informative tour of two different plantations. The tour guide, Karen, picked us up at a convenient location in the French Quarter. It was an about an hour drive to Oak Alley. It’s was a beautiful mansion. Make sure you look at the slave quarters carefully. That was very informative. You can get a reasonably priced drink and snack at the coffee shop to eat in or take in the bus. After a very clear narrated tour of the mansion by an exceptional guide, we then got back in the bus and went to Whitney Plantation. That is quite a different experience, but very worthwhile. It gives the perspective of the slaves. It was very moving. It gets hot there so make sure you take water and a hat. You are given a head set to listen to while touring the grounds. We’re glad we got this perspective.
Highly recommend seeing both plantations. Both are beautiful but very different perspectives. Tour gave ample this to explore and see all of the sites. Great tour!
Oak alley was beautiful. Whitney told the slaves story. Can get very sad at times. Enjoyed both. 2 different perspectives
Amber was our driver. She was awesome. She was also funny and very knowledgeable. 10 out of 10
Cornell was very knowledgeable & entertaining on our bus trip. Would have preferred a guided tour at Whitney. Different points of view at both places, but the Whitney point of view was more believable.
Plantation tour Very good Very informative and a true insight into life back then Cajun encounters Driver keyonta very good
Brian was an outstanding bus operator for our Oak Alley and Whitney Plantations tour. He was incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and full of meaningful insight about the history and importance of the experience. His professionalism and thoughtful commentary made the trip even more memorable. I would absolutely take this tour again—especially if Brian were the bus operator. Thank you, Brian, for an amazing and informative time in New Orleans.
Amber is awesome! She’s a New Orleans native and very knowledgeable on the city and the plantations! She made the ride very fun and safe. I would definitely recommend this tour to the Whitney and Oak Alley plantations! Oak Alley has a delicious mint tulip, and I would recommend getting an umbrella before going to Whitney is going during rainy seasons! Both plantations are very different. At the Oakalley you learn more about the people that own slaves, and the Whitney plantation is more about the experience of the slaves and what they went through which I personally rwally liked learning about.
Our transportation driver "Amber" was great for picking us up to take us to the Plantation. She was great at telling us history along the way, very knowledgeable, professional and helpful. She was there to pick us up at the end and take us back. Our tour guide "Presley" was very knowledgeable, professional and did a great job touring through the Oak Alley Plantation, very nice tour. The self guided tour at the Whitney Plantation was also great, both places had a lot of history and knowledge to obtain.
Amber was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and entertaining. Would request her again if possible
Our tour guide/ driver Cornell was incredible. He told us a lot about New Orleans history, gave us good suggestions on what else to do. Was really funny and stopped the bus in front of the plantations so we could take nice photos. He even gave us coupons for a restaurant at the end. All in all the whole trip was great, the lands were beautiful and the history at Whitney plantations was insanely insightful.
A very moving experience. Learned a lot of history. Our driver Cornell did an excellent job! Definitely recommend if you love history like I do.
Cornell was the best bus driver he is very knowledgeable and knows a lot about history. He was able to fill the long drive with knowledgeable and fun commentary.
You can easily spend more time at each location, so be mindful of the time. You can take your children. The “Field of Children’s memorial is a beautiful honor and tribute. History comes alive for future generations. Lastly, Mr. Dwane was patient and welcomed questions.
Keyonta and Shanira were a blast..
The plantations tour in New Orleans was amazing. Oak Alley was spectacular! We learned many new things! Our bus driver Brian was great!
Our driver Brian was great, this tour was definitely worth the time and money. The bus was nice, AC is really big, so no worries about the heat. We are a small group, only 10. You must purchase this set if you want to visit the Oak Alley Plantation and the Whitney plantation. The experience is great, amazing.
Thank you Amber for a great tour.

Had an amazing experience with shanira as our driver! Was picked us close to our hotel and everything was explained which made the tours very low stress. Both plantation were informative in there own ways which made it great to do both. Would 100% recommend this tour!
Awesome experience. Tour driver Samara was awesome very knowledgeable very pleasant experience..she recommended spots to go to for good eats..
Very informative, friendly, fun, and good set up.
It was a wonderful trip. Karen, our driver, was friendly, knowledgeable, and shared many interesting insights throughout the journey. In my opinion, Oak Alley Plantation is the highlight for its stunning architecture and the guided tour of the house. Whitney Plantation, on the other hand, focuses much more on the history and experiences of enslaved people. I highly recommend visiting both plantations, as they offer two completely different but equally valuable perspectives and experiences.
Amber was great! We did a plantation tour of Oak Alley and Whitney Plantation. Both were great$
We took the Palntation tour in New Orleans, our driver AMBER was the best! She gave us a lot of very good recommendations and a brief history of New Orleans on our way to the plantations. We had plenty of time in each of the plantations
Our Driver AMBER was over the top! Made our trip back and forth go so fast with her insights for NOLA along the way! Lovely tour. Whitney plantation was amazing and heavy emotionally… be ready!
Amber, our tour driver, was incredible. She was friendly and provided us with so much great information about not only the tour but also about New Orleans and the surrounding area that we could use for our entire trip. Thanks again, Amber!
Amber was a great tour guide!!!
Amber brought us by small bus on the plantation tour. She was very knowledgeable leaving the city about New Orleans and also gave a personal story which was very endearing. She gave wonderful restaurant recommendations and was overall delightful.
Our driver Amber was the best and very knowledgeable about the city. I learned a lot of fun facts headed to plantation.
Wonderful all around Ms. Amber gave great information and helped us with navigating the excursions and all the tours and always kept smile great driver
I enjoyed the Louisiana Plantation tour. Our bus driver Daneeka J, proved to be a very knowledgeable guide as she drove us to our destination first to Oak Alley and then to Whitney Plantations. This is a wonderful way to end our trip to New Orleans! When I come back, I will look to Cajun Encounter Tours
Our driver, Daneeka J, arrived early and was extremely friendly and enthusiastic the entire journey. We never felt disrespected, ignored, or unsafe with her, she even got all of our tickets for us while we stayed on the bus in the AC. Genuinely no complaints. Even on the drive to the Oak Alley Plantation, she was telling us interesting facts about various sites in New Orleans and the surrounding area. Couldn't have had a better experience.
Shanara was an amazing driver. She explained everything we needed to know and was very clear. Gave us recommendations as a local.
The tour was good. The Oak Alley plantation focused more on the enslavers than the enslaved. The Whitney plantation is not as pretty but focuses largely on the enslaved. Our driver Daneeka J was very good. Would recommend this tour with her.
Daneeka was an amazing bus driver and tour guide here at New Orleans. Cajun Encounters was an amazing expérience for me and everyone her. She was patient with a few who were late and keep a positive experience for us. Recommandation 10 out of 10.
Daneeka J. was an excellent driver. She was great at informing us about what we needed to do at each site. She was very helpful. Thank you Daneeka.
Daneeka was a friendly and informative guide for our tour group of 15 from various states (a nice size to tour with). During our tour to Oak Alley & Whitney Plantations in New Orleans we experienced two very different presentations. The 2 hours we were given at each stop was about the right amount of time to walk through each location. The bus ride was a welcome break from the steamy day. Nice and cool for the hour trip to and from the plantations.
Daneeka took us to the Oak Alley and the Whitney plantation in New Orleans. She drove us safe and sound for an hour each way, and added some interesting facts about New Orleans history along the ride!
Daneeka was our driver for the Oak Alley Plantation and Whitney plantation tour. It is a long tour and if your lucky to have Daneeka; she will be your only driver so feel comfortable to leave your items on the bus. The tours are amazing are well worth the money. We're from out of State and traveled to New Orleans on plane. We appreciated the transportation because it is an hour out of the city. The bus has A/C and super comfortable seats.
Oak Alley Plantation tour with Daneeka while in New Orleans. It was great.
