Itinerary
Drive-out along the Mississippi River approximately 30 miles (48 km) to the embarkation point of your airboat from your New Orleans hotel. Depending on the option you selected, board a large airboat holding 15 to 25 passengers or a small airboat limited to six to eight passengers for a more intimate, personalized experience.
Set out on a 1 hour and 45 minute tour on a 20,000-acre (8,095-hectare) tract of tidewater cypress swamp close to the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Your airboat is powered by an aircraft propeller to allow a fast, fluid trip through the shallow marshes. Feel the wind on your face as you zip into bayous lined with mossy cypress and tupelo-gum trees. Prepare to see plenty of alligators in the warmer months (and warmer days in winter), some of which may be out sunning themselves on rocks! Your guide may even feed the gators, affording amazing photo opportunities. Keep your eyes open for turtles, snakes, egrets, herons and ibis. You may even catch sight of a hawk, owl or bald eagle. In the cooler months, look for white-tailed deer, raccoons and the large rodents known as nutria. Be sure to check out the indoor exhibits of alligators, including an albino alligator. Note: This tour does not include hotel pick-up or drop-off unless option selected at checkout.

Jimmy was a great guide (quite a character). The small boat experience was really good. We saw and learned a lot about the area and impacts of Hurricane Ida and invasive species. IF you booking through Viator and driving yourself, you won’t get all the instructions. You must get checked in at a separate building and get a WRISTBAND. We didn’t know that and it made the initial experience more stressful. There are tons of tour buses and big boat tours so the platform is busy and there isn’t enough signage to explain the check-in. We went on a chillier week in October and definitely needed sunscreen and sunglasses but also really glad we had jackets.
Our tour exceeded our expectations. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about area. We stopped in the middle of the tour and were able to touch/pet an aligátor from the front of the boat.
We had an absolute blast with Airboat Adventures! Booking the 6-person boat was hands-down the best decision ever—we effortlessly glided into secret, narrow channels that big boats could never reach! Captain Brad was a phenomenal guide! He’s incredibly experienced, packed with wetland knowledge, and absolutely hilarious! He kept us laughing the entire time while showing us the best of the Louisiana bayou. If you want a thrilling, up-close, and wildly fun tour, request Captain Brad on a small boat! Highly, highly recommend! OH.............and ALSO........ for Fantastic Food, nearby, try 'Jans' restaurant. Delicious!
What a fun tour!! Saw a lot of gators and the trip was amazing. Beautiful and interesting environment in the backwaters. Highly recommend!!
This was on my bucket list for our first trip to NOLA for my milestone birthday. My husband and I opted for the 6-8 (small) airboat with transportation to/from our hotel and this was hands-down one of the best things we did during our time in and around NOLA and was a great start to our vacation! Our concierge, Ariel at The Roosevelt recommended we take the 12 noon tour, as this is when the alligators are most active, and she was right! It was so memorable and so much fun, thanks to our guide "TikTok." The high speed airboat ride to the private swamp land was exhilarating. Soon after we entered, we were met with alligators - most of them medium-sized, one that was massive, and an older, one-eyed gator. Every one on our airboat was given the opportunity to feed them and TikTok sure put on a thrilling show interacting with them. The scenery in the swamp was so majestic, just as I'd imagined it would be. This experience was definitely a highlight of our trip and I highly recommend!
Brilliant tour and great fun with a wonderful guide Captain Mark who was a wealth of information and knowledge. I would highly recommend this experience especially with Captain Mark.
Tour guide was fun and showed us a great experience of the bayou. We saw several gators on the tour and had great photo opportunities on the tour.
I asked my hotel concierge which tour to book and he said this was the one. We did the 6 person tour to get the most personalized experience. Jay was our tour guide, a Barataria Island native and very knowledgeable and passionate about the area, the wildlife, fish, birds and history. The ride was fast and fun in between areas of mire exploration. We saw a cemetery that is losing ground, parts of the swamp that were widened due to forestry needs and from hurricane damage. He answered all questions and called out to the gators in French…the females came runnIng! Obviously familiar with Jay and knowing there was nothing to fear, we had 4 gators around our boat. We tossed marshmallows to them before Jay got out the hot dogs and showed us a lot of excitement with gators even up on the boat. He’d kiss them and stick his head in their mouths for a bit of fun that didn’t seem overly dangerous (just exciting) The snap of their jaws will be a sound to remember! A great time and worth every penny for the smaller tour experience.
This Airboat tour was so much more than just a boat ride to look at Alligators. If you are lucky enough to have Jacob as your guide, you will learn so much more.
This was a fabulous experience. It really surpassed my expectations. I thought we would maybe see a few gators, but we saw a lot of them and also it was so great having our own airboat and we felt like we were out there all by ourselves. There weren’t a bunch of other boats all around us all the time. The scenery was just beautiful annd our guide, Steve, was really knowledgeable about the area and a great host. This was a definite highlight of our trip and I would recommend it to anyone. We had four adults and two kids and everyone loved it.
I always wanted to take an airboat ride/tour and I am so glad I did this one when I was visiting New Orleans. I booked the six-passenger ride for 9:45 AM on a Sunday and wore a t-shirt, shorts and a windbreaker which was perfect for the ride. There is plenty of parking in the gravel lot and easy check-in at the building that houses restrooms and a small gift shop. You are directed to the covered dock area where they will take your photo in front of a back drop and you wait until your boat is called. Steve was our guide, he gave us some safety info then we took off at 9:50. He said he would let us know when to put the ear protection on after we got out of the harbor area. Then he let it rip and we went zooming through the marshes which were so unique and beautiful. We ended up seeing several gators that were easily 400 lbs. just sunning themselves on the banks. Saw two eagles, numerous other birds and at least two dozen other gators of varying sizes. Steve said it was an absolute perfect morning and that's why we were able to see so many. He was very informative and you could tell that he loved being out on the water and seeing these amazing reptiles in their natural habitat. We got back to the dock around 11:30 and the staff were waiting there with the photos they took earlier in case you want to purchase them. This was well organized, safe, fun and a great way to spend a morning. Loved it and would do it again!
This was a great trip. You are able to see the swamp areas of New Orleans. Very cool to do it in an airboat. We saw plenty of alligators in their natural environment. Everything about Airboat Adventures is great.
Easy to book, tour guide was AWESOME! It was an incredible experience!!
So well organized. Fun and beautiful. It was a perfect day. Shane, our guide, was awesome! The pickup from our hotel was easy too.
Ronnie was our tour guide and he was fantastic. He took us to a different area where we had a chance to see larger alligators. We had the opportunity to feed them marshmallows and take great pictures. Ronnie was funny and interacted with the entire group. I felt safe the whole time and definitely would recommend this tour.
We had a great time at airboat adventure. We booked a small airboat with six passengers and it was wonderful. Our guide Steve was very knowledgeable about the nature and habitat. We were able to see lots and lots of gators. The ride was fun and I highly recommended it.
By far my favorite activity of the whole trip. Got out of the city and saw the other side of Louisiana. The swamp was beautiful. Our guide was awesome. We saw many sizes of the alligators. The boat ride was much smoother than I expected. Be prepared for weather. This is an outside activity.
We loved our 6 person (actually 5 person) Airboat Adventure Tour with Steve. Having grown up in the area, he has a deep knowledge of the history and animal life in the bayou. He brought us to many different areas of the bayou, each with different flora and fauna. The small group size allowed for a lot of personal interaction, and he was great about figuring out what each of us were interested in (for example, he noticed I was interested in the wildflowers growing in the Bayou, and brought our boat closer so I could get some pictures). In addition to many alligators, we got to see a bald eagle and an owl, as well as many other types of birds, on our tour. This was one of the best experiences we had in New Orleans.
We had a great time. That part of the swamp is beautiful. Our guide told us many stories and historical facts. Highly recommend!
Great adventure for kids and adults! Loved our tour guide as well. He was very passionate about his job.
Had an awesome tour !! Steve (our guide) was great. Knowledgeable and funny. I would recommend this tour.
Awesome experience! Very organized and well run organization. Shane, our captain and guide, was exceptional.
It’s probably seasonal dependent, we went in mid-March and it was perfect. Our guide suggested however that it’s different at different times. Lots and lots of gators!
Small group tour was definitely the way to go. Our guide gave us so much history and knew which path to see as much as we could.
An absolute one of a kind experience!!! Our guide was so nice and knowledgeable. We took the 6 person boat so we couple get further back into the bayou and it was perfect. We saw so many turtles, cranes, and a ton of gators! It was absolutely beautiful and peaceful. So much fun! Our guide was the best!
Great experience and Steven was an excellent captain local knowledge and a very good airboat pilot. A lot of fun
Posted price was 100 per person charge was 315 for 2 people. Guide tictok was 10 stars
Brad was awesome! Great to meet some of his gator friends and have some fun in the bayou. The kids had a blast.
Our driver Shawn was very informative and we saw lots of alligators and exotic birds. He was a fun guide and very knowledgeable
Our guide was knowledgeable and fun. We saw well over a dozen alligators and gorgeous scenery. The smaller boat was well worth it since we could go into more secluded areas of the bayou.
I recently embarked on a six-passenger airboat excursion with Airboat Adventures, and it exceeded all my expectations once again. Our captain, Steve, was exceptional, knowledgeable, friendly, and expertly navigated us through the lush wetlands, pointing out unique wildlife and sharing fascinating insights about the ecosystem. The hotel pickup/drop-off service was also seamless and convenient. As a returning customer, I can confidently say that Airboat Adventures continues to improve with each experience, surpassing my previous visit in every way. If you're looking for an unforgettable airboat adventure, look no further than this exceptional team. You won't be disappointed!
This tour was awesome. Jay , our tour guide was funny, friendly and very knowledgeable. He encouraged questions and provided a very enjoyable and memorable experience.
We had an absolute blast on our airboat adventure. We saw lots of alligators and enjoyed our time! We interacted with other airboats and other airboat drivers. It was fun to experience so many alligators. I believe our driver was giving us 70% effort. Other captains seemed more enthusiastic and were interacting with the passengers more. Everyone has an off day! I simply felt like I wanted to tip the other guides. I would go again. The adventure was incredible. It’s a must do while in New Orleans.
This tour is a real adventure! Wonderful gliding boat, great guide, amazing nature and lots of adrenaline. We’ve seen about 15 Gaters of different age and size. It’s very well organized. 5 Stars activity!
This was possibly the most fun I have ever had on a tour. Our guide was amazing and informative and experienced. No mosquitoes so peaceful. This was not bumpy at all. It made me truly fall in love with the bayou
We all loved the the experience. The guide had a great personality and knowledge. The gators cooperated and we saw 25 of them. Would highly recommend the ride.
Highly recommend this company. Adam our guide did a great job educating us about the beauty and wildlife and history of the area. We saw alligators, cranes and ducks. Dion was our driver who picked us up from our hotel. She was informative and gave us great suggestions for breakfast the next morning.
