Itinerary
Meet your guide, Keith (a Louisiana record man with more than 20 years of record business experience), at the Louisiana Music Factory on Frenchmen Street - the most musical street in New Orleans. Spend approximately 2 hours and a dozen songs while we walk through historic New Orleans 'faubourgs' (neighborhoods) - the Marigny, French Quarter, and Treme - spanning space, time and genres we learn 300 years of New Orleans Music & Heritage. The aural-visual walking tour is accompanied by Bluetooth speaker capability to provide musical accompaniment of the artists and locations along the tour. This is Keith's favorite record store - everything we talk about on the tour, you can get here!
Cross Esplanade then turn on Chartres Street and pay a visit to the boyhood home of Danny Parker. Along with his rambunctious and bawdy-singing wife Blue Lu, we learn how a single man can save New Orleans Brass Band heritage. Next are stops in the Place de Armes, Preservation Jazz Hall, a stroll down Bourbon Street to Mister New Orleans, and J&M Studios - the 'Home of Rock N' Roll.'
Sandra and Allan Jaffe visited on their honeymoon and found their life giving home at Pres Hall. Visit the gift shop and take a photo while here.
At one-time Bourbon Street was the most musical street in the world! Cats like Louis Prima, Al Hirt and Pete Fountain blaring Jazz through the hot, wet night air. Saunter or sashay with us as we hear Basin Street Blues blowing on a Clarinet.
Here you'll see the Louis Armstrong statue. While in the Treme, America's 1st African-American neighborhood, you'll hear about their influence in New Orleans music and heritage.
Stops in Armstrong Park include Congo Square.

I was so Lucky doing a private tour wth Keith! He is so knowlegable about music and new orleans! Please give up the "voudoo tours" around new orleans to take his fantastic tour about music in new orleans with so much fun!
Keith was a great guide!! He really knows his music and music history. The tour was very informative on music and general area history. Highly recommend the tour.
The guide Keith was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of time to interact with him. He played select pices of music as we walked, which was a lot of fun. i wish I had this tour at the begining of my visit, which might have helped to know more about where to be and what to do.
Keith was a very knowledgeable, funny and entertaining guide. We loved his stories and his sharing of personal experiences.
Great experience and very informative. Learned so much about the jazz history of New Orleans. Highly recommend if you are a jazz music lover or interested in some of the history of New Orleans.
This was as much performance art as a tour. Once he got going, Keith knew his stuff and delivered it with style. If the topic interests you, which it did for us can go with the flow, this is well worth it.
Our tour guide Vinny was an absolute star ....a bundle of interesting and fascinating information all about the history of jazz...rythm n blues, soul motown.....great instrumentalists and song writers ....we all enjoyed our tour very much .....thank you Vinny ...take care 🤗⭐️👌
Best first night in NOLA that I could imagine. Keith was so knowledgeable about the history and relating it back to the locations, really felt like I got the full experience of the NOLA jazz and blues scene.
Absolute joy I was the only person on the tour but that was ok He was very knowledgeable and it was really good seeing the places where artists played and recorded Highly Recommended and a really nice friendly chap
Guide very knowledgeable and personable. History and information concerning New Orleans jazz, soul, blues, rock & roll and pop. Concludes with a visit to Congo Square. Very interesting.
Keith was great! Incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the blues and especially artists who got their start in New Orleans. You'll hear some great stories and visit some truly historic but hidden places. Absolutely worth it!
Keith waa fantastic. He had so much knowledge to share. I learned a lot of information and saw areas I had never been. He made everyone feel included. So much personaity
Keith was brilliant Very funny and entertaining Would recommend- then go to the jazz museum for extra jazz information
Keith was great! I had brought a group of music lovers to New Orleans to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday and everyone love this tour! My husband is a musician and he was REALLY into this tour! We learned so much and explored so much of the city. This is a tour that I feel would not be appropriate for kids - due to the language and the amount of walking.
Our tour guide spent about 2 hours showing us various significant music stops in New Orleans, including a beverage at the historic Lafitte tavern from the 1700s and a venue I visited in 1976, Preservation Hall Jazz Club. We got tickets to their show that night and it was much like one of the original jazz shows I saw as a music loving teen. The musicians had performed all around the world and stayed after to speak to guests. It all points to the accessibility of music, then and now.
If you love history especially of the MUSIC of this great city this is the tour for you. Keith is witty and knowledgeable about it all. He was a hoot! I can’t wait to take it again with my music loving husband.
I really enjoyed the tour. I appreciated that the tour guide didn’t shy away from talking about certain aspects of America’s history and that he knew alot about the influence of Africa on music. The tour guide was friendly, funny and had good energy. He was full of knowledge which he shared and he played some nice tunes at different points of the tour. We stopped at a cafe along the route. There was street parking for very reasonable pay not far from the start location. It was probably cheaper than what the nearby lots likely would’ve been. The tour guide took lots of pictures of us and he emailed them to us after the tour. Somehow we lucked up and it was just my friend and I on the tour which was a real treat.
Keith was a great tour guide. He had excellent information about all jazz musicians. And he played music as we went along. As my friend was not well, I ended up having a private tour. He took a picture at various stops. And then emailed me the photosand the music after the tour.
It was nice being that it was only us 3. A great way to get your steps in for sure. Stopping for a great drink while the rain it was awesome
This was exactly what we were hoping for! Keith was awesome, highly entertaining and a ton of great info. Kept our teenagers engaged and really gave us a ton of interesting anecdotes and history. Loved getting the inside scoop and Keith had the best stories. A great experience! Highly recommend.
Keith was an excellent tour guide, he really knew his music heritage, I picked up a lot of interesting facts from his narration. The additional music accompaniment at various locations on the tour made it even more enjoyable. I'd recommend this walking tour for any music lovers (especially Jazz music).
Keith was great, knowledgeable, funny, entertaining. The music he shared was excellent. If you love jazz and history you’ll enjoy this tour.
An excellent tour. Full of information, anecdotes and history, told in a fun and engaging way. Importantly, Keith has a passion and love for everything New Orleans. He's a massive font of not just musical knowledge, but when myself & my son asked our many questions (not just music), he patiently answered. He also gave recommendations; music venues, places to visit, eat and drink. On our tour, he said 'hi' to many of his friends in the city, to me he's part of the fabric. I am a professional tour guide in London, so know a thing or two about guiding. Don't visit New Orleans without going this tour.. KEITH WAS SUPERB. Thanks 👍
Keith was an awesome tour guide, vibrant and so knowledgeable with great stories and information on NOLA. We loved this tour & highly recommend. It was a great start to our stay in New Orleans.
We waited at the meeting spot for 30 minutes before giving up on the tour. No guide showed up and no advance notice was given, which kept us from being able to do something else in its place.
My friend and I had a blast with Keith. We learned so much about New Orleans music! It wasn't just a tour; it felt like traveling back in time to the golden days of jazz and blues in NOLA. He talked about the big names, shared fascinating stories about them, and then we listened to some of their music. Incredible! Keith really knows what he's talking about and seems to know everyone in NOLA. As we walked around, he greeted so many people—amazing! We loved it and highly recommend this journey through the past and present of New Orleans music. Thank you, Keith
Keith was super knowledgeable and had a fun personality, he took us to a lot of cool places and played music as we walked. I would highly recommend this tour if you are a music lover like us. He also gave great advice on must stop places while visiting NOLA. It was really fun learning all of the history on music in this city!
This was a fantastic experience. Fun and informative, with lots of history. Keith, our guide, has a wealth of knowledge and experience and shares it in a personable and entertaining way. As a bonus, he plays musical selections during the tour and takes photos.
Keith was absolutely the best tour guide. He really made it entertaining and educational. His knowledge of the beginnings, and throughout the years was impressive. I really liked the route of the tour but I have to say, Keith was the best part. The stop at Lafitte for drinks and a history lesson of the actual bar was also a favorite stop if ours on the tour.
Keith is the most memorable part of the tour. He is the greatest audiovisual aid. But, he is armed with so much info, delivered in a funny, charming and self-effacing way. He puts you at ease and it is like you are walking through New Orleans music history with a friend,
Keith is exceptionally knowledgeable about jazz, blues, and the musical history of New Orleans. He's very friendly and attentive, and he added great anecdotes about people he's known through the years. A lot of fun for music lovers!
Keith is a tour guide like no other. I went on a music history tour with him back in March. Since that time, whenever I thought about my visit to New Orleans, my next thought has been Keith's tour was an absolute highlight. I have been fortunate to do a lot of travel and have taken many small group walking tours. This tour was one of the most memorable I have ever participated in. Keith brings alive the musical history of New Orleans in a way that feels like time travel.
Learning about the history of Congo square was fascinating, and seeing the recording studio near Congo square were some of the highlights of my experience today. This was a cool tour.
Keith is really just the best tour guide you could ask for. His energy in infections, not only within the tour but throughout the whole city. So many people on the street know and love him and you can feel his love for them and his community. He's so knowledgeable about the city's history especially in regards to music and has a seemingly endless amount of personal stories on the matter. I would recommend this tour for anyone visiting NOLA but especially music lovers. You can't go wrong!
Our tour guide was FANTASTIC, engaging and entertaining! He answered any and all questions that we had. We learned so much on this tour. If you are a music lover you cannot miss this tour it is so worth it.
Great experience. Keith was extremely knowledgeable and personable. Felt like you were with a friend. Would recommend this tour.
Keith was knowledgeable about not just music, not just history, but all the political and social trends that affected things throughout the last 100 years. He clearly enjoys sharing what he knows about New Orleans. It was just my husband and I on the tour so it was very personal—he took photos of us along the way and sent them to us, and we stopped for a beer at Jean LaFitte.
Great tour. Keith was very knowledgeable and an excellent story teller. Learned lots about the musical history of NOLA.
Fantastic tour FULL of information. If you want to learn about the history of music in New Orleans then this is for you. Our teenage son enjoyed it, so you know it was good. Keith is a great guide and will keep you entertained the entire time.
We enjoyed all the stories about the various musicians, the tour stops, the walk and the history. Hearing the music that went along with the artists was a great addition while we toured. We appreciated the coffee/restroom stop halfway through, too. Overall a unique experience and Keith made it a lot of fun. Both of our older teens thought it was well worth it!
Keith was a font of information on the music and its history, with great stories and a wonderful sense of humor and a whole heck of a lot of passion! The experience was informative and lots of fun. We enjoyed our tour very much!
Keith is a great guide, he has had so many wonderful personal experiences and it shows in his knowledge and enthusiasm. The tour started a little slow, but quickly got into rhythm and our whole family enjoyed it. Keith endeared himself to our kids 16 and 20 yrs old as he was genuine and easy to be around. It was like going to a stroll with an old friend who is excited to show you the things they love about their city, and the history that makes it special. He also took pics and sent us the play list for the tour.
I had a wonderful tour this morning with Keith and his encyclopedic knowledge of New Orleans’ superlative musical scene, both past and present. Not only that, he seemed to be personally acquainted with a sizeable percentage of the French Quarter’s current inhabitants, as we encountered them during our sojourn. I can’t guarantee you’ll experience the same perfect weather that we enjoyed today, but chilly rain or humid shine, you will spend two hours being educated, entertained and enriched.
Keith Abel is a masterful storyteller and had us spellbound. The way he weaves together music, anthropology, history, politics and the "insanity" of art left us in awe. His love for the city and for music is obvious. We learned so much and had the best time doing it!
We loved Keith’s enthusiasm. His depth of knowledge was impressive. He engaged with us and made the tour personal. Highly recommended!
The history & music 🎶 Keith shared!!! Loved CC’s coffee ☕️ shop & the Lost Sock 🧦 shop. The Mardi Gras decor was very interesting. 🥳😊
Tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. We liked how he included playing music into the tour. I’ve done the tour once with friends and now with my family
