This included a cooking demonstration by Chef Philip. He was engaging, informative and quick, we had a three-course meal with generous beverages: beer, lemonade, iced tea. It was delicious! The over the counter over the stove mirror really showcased the learning. We had gumbo, shrimp etouffe and bananas foster.

This was the best thing we did in New Orleans! So much fun and food- a great value. Our instructor Michael shared the very interesting history of Cajun cookery while demonstrating how to make a roux, gumbo, jambalaya, pralines, and an awesome bread pudding with rum sauce. We left stuffed. The school offers several demos. Wish we had time to do them all!
The highlight of our New Orleans trip!! We did the 10am lesson with Chef Eric and had the best lunch ever. Chef Eric was entertaining, funny and so informative explaining the culture of the cuisines and how the different nationalities (French, Spanish, Cajun, Native, etc.) all contributed to the food. The food was the best we had all week, so very good: Crab and Corn Bisque, Shrimp Creole, Pralines, and Bananas Foster Flambe. Very Highly Recommend the New Orleans School of Cooking!
Register early. Placement is based on time you voted. Food presentation was wonderful. I’m not a cook and I learned a lot about cooking that I might actually use. Food was great! Make sure you go back for seconds.
The cook gave us excellent commentary and very good food. We had gumbo, crawfish etouffee, a praline, and bananas foster. We also bought a cookbook and some spices.
Chef Eric was both entertaining and informative! Would recommend to anyone wanting to learn how to prepare Cajun and Creole.
Amazing experience! I can not recommend enough! Great food, great atmosphere! Chef Eric is the best!
Entertaining, educational and delicious food! Easy to follow cooking, the little tips and tricks made the experience - “make it your own!”
This was undoubtedly my favorite event I booked in our 4 day stay. Not only was our chef an outstanding cook but he gave us the best history of New Orleans of any I experienced! So sorry I couldn’t stay to get his autograph
The cooking demo class was fantastic! We watched Chef Eric cook some of New Orleans’ most famous Cajun & Creole dishes, learned about the history of them and his tips for preparing them, and then we got to eat them. We had gumbo, red beans & rice with a cornbread muffin, pecan pie, and a fresh, warm praline! Mmmmmm!
The class was amazing. The chef was funny as well as very thorough in explaining the steps of the recipes he was making. Lots of cooking hints about temperatures, proper cookware, etc. Several choices of menu items depending on the day and time you booked. We got seconds on almost every meal item.
Chef was humorous, and entertaining. I loved that w the mirror we could see everything that was prepared and what he was doing. He invited questions, which was helpful for me as i had a cple. The food was amazing.
Chef Diann was amazing & very informative she was also witty it was a good experience. The food was good.
Had a great time. And the instructor was very engaging. Loved the history of the different dishes and everything was delicious.
A lot of fun! Great cook with fun stories. The food was delicious! Been home for a bit and made two of the recipes and they came out great!!
Austin was excellent master chef. Very knowledgeable and entertaining. Food was exceptional.
Chef Eric was entertaining, and knowledgeable. He informed us about Louisiana culture as well as how to cook Cajun and Creole cuisine. The time flew by until the demonstration concluded with a substantial tasting. The event was well worth the price and one of the highlights of our New Orleans visit.
It was absolutely wonderful, a bit crowded, but we were with a great group. The presenter was c wonderful
I booked this 8 months ago for my bachelorette and I’m so disappointed I’ve been here 4 times and Michael was so patronizing and weird. He made remarks about Yankees and asked all first born sons to stand up bc they deserve to inherit everything. Old school in a bad way. And I hate to say sexism but it was so weird, did not enjoy, first time in 4 times, he wouldn’t stop talking in one hour we ate nothing, sad when I brought all my friends here :( we left early didn’t eat anything
Great activity. I was solo, which was fine. Dianne was our chef and very good. Enjoyed hearing about her background. I liked her philosophy on how she would make the recipes slightly differently at home, and make the recipes with substitutions/whatever you have in the house. Food was great! Would suggest not pairing jambalaya and gumbo in same class. Very similar dishes.
This class was so good! Even though there were a lot of people, the presenter gave a ton of interaction. He was also so funny. We had just gotten off a cruise and saw two comedians and Chef was much funnier than both of those. He was also very knowledgeable which made the class even more fun.
We participated in a demonstration class with chef Eric. He demonstrated to our group how to make chicken, gumbo, jambalaya, and pralines. He included some history about New Orleans food, and a fantastic job at explaining not the nuts and bolts, but also why things were done in a certain way. Everything was delicious and we had seconds because it was very tasty. He was really good about answering questions but also staying on time and we finished in exactly 2 hours. It was one of the highlights of our trip.
We had a wonderful experience at the New Orleans Cooking School with Chef Tom!! You will definitely enjoy watching him prepare dishes such as gumbo, jambalaya pralines! Then you get to eat the dishes made!! I would recommend this experience to everyone.
Chef was very informative and each dish was totally delicious.
Lynn made it fun and was very informative on the history behind the dishes she demonstrated! Loved it, would do it again!
We had a wonderful experience at the New Orleans cooking school. Our instructor was very engaging and provided a wonderful history lesson along with the cooking instruction. Not only did we learn about Cajun and Creole history, but we enjoyed some amazing food as well. We would highly recommend this experience. There’s also a great store where you can get some fun kitchen gadgets and Cajun seasonings. The freshly made “plarines” (which we learned was the original name) were especially wonderful!
Great experience whether you're with a group or solo. So much fun. We learned about the food as well as the history of New Orleans.
This is my 4th visit, this time took my 3 sisters. It was definitely a highlight of our trip to New Orleans. A combination of the best food in the city, amazing history and so much fun. I would recommend this to anyone!!
The food was fantastic! My wife and I truly enjoyed the demonstration and learned a lot about New Orleans in the process. Chef T is truly outstanding and in addition to telling great stories, she can whip up a mean Crawfish Étouffée
An amazing experience. Our cook Vivian provided a great demonstration and educated us on not only New Orleans cooking but on the culture as well. Would definitely come back again.
I wish I would have done this sooner! I travel to NOLA every two years and this was one of the best things I've done. I learned so much about cooking in general and then we got to eat the final product! Everything was delicious! The chef was hilarious and extremely knowledgable. It was so much fun and I took home all the seasonings so I can make traditional NOLA dishes at home.
well done great tips good food
Good entertainment great food
We took this class on our anniversary and absolutely loved it! The food was amazing and it was so interesting to learn about the history associated with it!
This was a delightful and delicious experience. Our teacher Harriet made it a five star experience.
The demonstration was excellent. Chef Tom gave a nice history of the dishes he demonstrated as well as a thorough explanation of the ingredients and process to prepare them. Sampling the completed dishes was a highlight. Friendly staff in the store as well.
As a tour manager, I brought 40 people to the New Orleans School of Cooking for a demo and then dinner. What a great experience for everyone. The food was so good. We had Chef Michael DeVidts prepare our meal. He was truly outstanding. If you are visiting New Orleans, stop by and enjoy a wonderful culinary experienxe.
It was not what I expected. It is not a cooking class or emphasis on food, this a New Orleans history lesson. The chef is an entertainer and she speaks long and well. The cooking was minimal and the food was mediocre at best. Don't believe for a minute the sample menu included in the description. We had a thin gumbo with a slice or two of sausage and some diced chicken, and some inferior jambalaya, a rice dish with some diced chicken all mostly prepared beforehand. Desert was pralines, ok I guess. That's it!
Highly recommended! The instruction was excellent and informative The service was professional and courteous
The Chef was wonderful humorous, and answered all our questions. The food tasted wonderful and we were able to even have seconds.
It was awesome! Lynn was a great chef and she was very knowledgeable about what she was cooking and the history behind it.
I live in the French Quarter and anytime company comes we do this experience! I’ve had 4 different chefs and they each bring a different feel, take and outlook on the cooking and history here and their technique. It’s a fun, yummy, educational and great experience! You cannot go wrong with this! Great price too!!
We had an amazing time. Chef Tom is amazing!!! We are going home to make this amazing food so we can get our diploma!
This was my second time at the N.O. School of Cooking. Very informative, so friendly, and the demonstration by Philippe was just wonderful. The food was amazing. I'll be back for another one!
Enjoyed this demonstration class today. Our chef is brand new to the Cooking school but clearly a very experienced chef. Once he gets used to this new gig some of the kinks will be worked out and the class will be a bit better. Still enjoyed it a lot and the food was remarkable and plentiful. We all left very full! Highly recommend this class for the history of what is New Orleans cooking and a chance to taste some food and pick the brain of a foodie local. All of the staff were amazing as well.
Chef Lynn made the experience educational and fun. She provided great history while cooking delicous food! She has a wonderful sense of humor and made everyone feel welcome!
It was a great experience. We learned a lot about New Orleans history while eating delicious food... I kid you not!
I thought I submitted this review long ago but I guess I didn't! Couldn't pass up the opportunity to share the positive experience from our cooking demo in August 2025. The food was delicious and the instructor was fantastic! You can shop in the store before or after the class to pick up items that will give your meals that authentic NOLA flavor. We received the recipes and, if/when you try them at home, send an email to receive an official certificate. We left full and happy!
This is a fun and tasty place! We loved watching the demonstration. Chef Cindy was personable and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the take away recipes so we can try our hand at them once we get home. Come hungry cuz you'll get plenty!
The chef besides being warm, engaging, and knowledgeable about Cajun cooking, was extremely comedic. My 13-year-old grandson loved him, and he even called him up to help him make the pralines.
