This zoo is huge! Make sure you have comfortable shoes. I needed assistance at the end and the staff didn’t hesitate to help. Very impressed with everything!!!!

We had a wonderful time at the zoo. We spent about 2.5 hours and saw everything. This zoo is easy to walk and things are fairly close together, which we appreciated. We had fun helping our toddler trick or treat at Boo to the zoo. The staff and volunteers were so nice. The carousel is $6.50, which seems pretty expensive, especially since we already paid $30 per person. The tiger is the only animal that wasn't visible. Overall, we had a wonderful time.
Appalling that tickets are $40 for adults and $35 for children, but flash an EBT card and it's only $3 per ticket which includes up to 5 guests. The zoo blamed exorbitant ticket price increases on the rising cost of feeding the animals, veterinary care, and facility maintenance. Yet somehow the zoo can still afford to offer essentially free admission for certain segments of the population. The animals are the ones who ultimately suffer due to inadequate funding, and the exhibits definitely demonstrate that fact.
Boo in the zoo was great. This is a great zoo lots for the kids to do. Trick or treating was fun. It was a great day.
Lovely zoo. Nice experience. Easy to get to. Can do both the aquarium and zoo in one day. Great for children.
Beautiful zoo! The habitats that were occupied were nice with lots of enrichment for the animals. Was a nice way to spend the day!
We loved it so much it was worth the time my kids had fun it was very clean even the rooms we didn't get to see the reptiles or the insects and the cafe but that's okay because we saw everything else it was so cool my personal favorite is the albino alligator
I’m afraid I simply don’t understand some of the reviews on this site. In too many areas this zoo appears to fall below the standards required of animal care and appropriate habitat and visitor safety generally. It is in need of urgent regulatory reassessment.
The Audubon Zoo is well worth a visit, and the entrance fee is quite reasonable. There should be a paper map to follow through the Zoo as it is quite large. You can download the app on your phone and follow which way to traverse to see different species of animals. The app is just one more to add to your phone and could easily be compared with texting while driving. Prices of food and drink (which hydration is definitely to be considered a requirement) are far too high as are the souvenirs. Pack alot of water, because you WILL need it, along with snacks. You will not be disappointed at the various animals you will see, but be aware of the high prices for anything within the zoo.
It was honestly a pretty big zoo, and they had lots of animals to show off! I did the bundle ticket that included the aquarium and the insectarium as well, however I am not from NOLA, so be aware that the zoo is in a different part of town, but the other two are in the same building. Make sure to make time for that since both places close at 5! You can definitely take your time, and even as a solo traveler I had a lot of fun reading and looking at the exhibits. It was definitely worth bundling them all together to save money. Staff were friendly and helpful with directions, and the gift shops were cute too! Make sure to bring a fan if it is hot though.
Was a lot of animals and worth the money a bit pricey but worth it. It’s good as a family or solo or a couple. It is veryhot during the summer so bring plenty of water and maybe a fan definitely bring or rent a stroller or wagon for younger kids it’s a lot of walking. only downside is most of the animals aren’t always there.
Caught the bus to Audubon zoo. There was a lack of path to get from the bus to the zoo entrance, but followed some staff across the grass and walked up the road. Buying tickets at the gate was a positive experience. We bought the combined ticket with the aquarium and insectarium which is very good value. It was a very hot day and was told that some animals may not be visible as they were keeping cool in their indoor enclosures. However we felt we saw most animals and some of those that we didn’t see first time, we managed to see when circling back round. There were many Zoo run summer camp groups, some better managed than others, but good to see some getting the kids to be considerate of other visitors. Had lunch at the cafe at the far end of the park and it was good quality and value. The park was clean and tidy, the animals seemed to be well looked after and they had good sized enclosures. There is a lot of empty space in the zoo with nothing to see, and less animals than other zoo’s that we have visited recently, but we had a good time looking at what they do have. The highlights were the nocturnal house watching the sloth and cooling down before heading back out into the heat, and the Louisiana swamp area with some more local animals.
Loved the experience. Staff was really kind .
This is a fantastic zoo and aquarium! It is very shaded which helps with the heat. My kids are teens but this would have been a perfect activity for younger kids. Lots of water features and play areas.
My visit to the zoo was very enjoyable. It is small but packed with animals. Most of my favirites were there. The park itself is absolutely beautiful. The landscaping is gorgeous and the park was clean. I would definitely recommend.
It was just ok. Not really worth the money you pay for it. I've been to many zoo's with my family and most of them I would go to again. Probably wouldn't want to go to this one again
I have visited many zoos this ranks in my top 5. Its a medium sized zoo. Water extremely over priced. Enjoyed seeing the animals. Was not aware of the water attraction based on website. 3 hours was plenty. Lots of shade to help combat the heat.
Humid, but fun. The ride was cool and the bus was clean. I enjoyed the gorillas and the water fountain
Took the Green Line Trolley from Canal Street down St Charles to Loyola University. Got off at the Audubon Park and walked the length of the park to Magazine Street and into the Zoo. We paid about $55 each for the Combo pass that also includes the Aquarium. You have almost a week to do both so we picked a cool day for the zoo since it is outside, and then a hot day for the aquarium since it's inside. The 57 bus takes you from the zoo to Canal and Rampart streets.
This zoo was very big lots of animal from many places from around the world all admission and stores restaurants proceeds go the zoo and care of the animals. We got the combination tickets that also included the Aquarium because you don’t have to do them both the same day. One is indoor and one is outdoor so you can pick the proper one by the weather conditions.
Been to several zoos worldwide plus San Diego in US this by far the worse Run down, overpriced including the refreshments Fewest animals we've seen. Felt sorry for the lonely elephant that looked forlorn and depressed Walkways unfit for accessibility Do not waste time and money visiting
The Audubon zoo is always our favorite over the years! Especially for Mother’s Day. There were a lot of things that were closed, unfortunately, and a train was broken. Two of our favorite things are the seals and the train and they were both out of service. Did Louisiana exhibit was fabulous as always! The food at the Caffe there was on point New Orleans, delicious. Overall, the zoo is always clean, refreshments everywhere to cool you off, and the staff is friendly.
I have been to other zoos in other cities. Nowhere that I have gone compares to ours. It is well worth the money. A must-see for any visitor to the area.
We took our granddaughter to the zoo today and had a wonderful time with her. She loved seeing all the animals.
Plan accordingly, it is very hig and there are places for younger kids to play, even adults. Wish there were more animals to see. Some enclosures were empty or what was display you couldn't see. It's understandable the zoo my be relocating or changing things. Overall the zoo was enjoyable. To see my 16yr daughter get excited was the best experience!
Only thing we wish we could of done was feed the animals but it was closed for that ,but we have memberships so excited to see for my hubbys next hitch in
I purchased the Audubon membership so I can bring my Grandchildren💕 it is a very beautiful zoo. I love he trees the oak and cypress trees were amazing.
Super nice zoo very clean and loved that the animals are in a natural habitat.
It was a great experience overall. Went online a weekend when it was crowded and busy but organized chaos. The animals were very interesting. The Flamingo Cafe was busy so we stopped at Cypress Swamp Cafe - got chicken tenders-overdone👎. ..very crowded so tables weren’t clean promptly but staff was trying to deal with the rush. Gift store next door is just a sample of what’s at the main one. Rude staff-Olivia- in that gift shop but main store has great staff to speak of: Bobby is excellent at helping pair up our sun hats, Aynsle was so courteous and friendly at check out but our favorite was Marlene who had the best sense of humor and got us so tickled! She helped us pick out tshirts and sunglasses! She was very friendly, helpful, accommodating, and most of all so sincere. I loved my experience at the zoo.
It was amazing. The animals were very interesting. The workers were very nice
This zoo does A great job with creating a nice atmosphere for you to enjoy while walking around. All the animals were out the day we went and my kids really enjoyed it
We had an amazing time! Beautiful zoo & aquarium! Courteous staff! Great food! Our first trip and it was a win!!
Great zoo trip even though it rained. Animals were really out and about. Zoo had great access to animals and all were easy to see. Not very crowded.
So disappointed. Very expensive entry cost! Dirty. Poor conditions for the animals. Very few animals. Walkways are not smooth with numerous tripping hazards. Extremely crowded. One and done.
Great experience very nice zoo
Amazing displays, lots of animals. Lots of rest stops. Overall, an awesome visit
Excellent zoo experience! We spent about three hours here, after walking over from a lunch at Bau Nguyen’s excellent Asian inspired Po Boy’s at Singleton’s Minimart.
We were not able to visit the zoo because my pass couldn’t load. We paid for the activity but did not get to use it.
I really enjoyed my time there, but I think for how small the Zoo is and for not having that many animals in each cage (a lot of them only had 1 animal), the tickets should be cheaper. But it’s definitely not a bad place to visit.
Parking is a mess, honestly that was the worst part. The ehhibits were awesome. Staff was awesome. By far my favorite zoo so far. The only zoo I've been to so far that my kids didn't get bored, they only got hungry. Plenty of food and plenty of family fun.
This Zoo is constantly getting better, first visit in 1986. The walking paths are flowing nicely from one exhibit to another, lots of shade and play areas for kids. Easy access to view the animals. I’ve been to a lot of Zoos - this one is still my favorite.
Some of the animals habitats and enclosures had running water, which is super important when living in a swamp. But many did not that was upsetting to my mom, dad and me. Since it’s the Audubon Zoo, I appreciate the conservation efforts but was disappointed in the standing, scummy water that too many animals had. A lot of the animals seemed to be hiding in the heat. The animals I did see seemed alright. The big gorilla was not happy to be there and I was surprised at how small that enclosure was. There were a number of broken and uneven planks on the board walk. I tripped over one and thankfully caught my balance after flying forward. I was close to face planting. I’m grateful I didn’t. 😅
We spent 4 days in NOLA in March 2026. Each kid (17f, 15f, 13m) got to plan a day. This was an activity that 13m chose. This was a great zoo—lots to see and do. Since we went on a weds afternoon, we almost had the place to ourselves. There were different areas (Africa, primates, swamp, Asia). The animals looked well cared for and we enjoyed spending a couple of hours here.
We had a great time at the zoo! We just wish they would update some of the older exhibits and replace the ones not in use ie, the Komodo dragon.
Great experience! The cafes were a long wait but otherwise we had a fantastic time. Will be back!
The best option to avoid a long line is to buy a ticket online. It is helpful to rent a stroller, since the park is so spacious. The Zoo cafe stopped taking orders around 1 pm, so that was a negative because we were not able to eat lunch. The gumbo trail restaurant also stopped taking orders, so we left the park to eat. We packed small snacks, but planned to eat there. It would have been great if the train was available, but it was not.
No food concessions. This is a lack of management and organization. The Audubon Zoo is a major NOLA attraction. Hopefully this problem will be resolved as soon as possible. No comments are necessary from Zoo management.
Excellent Facilities!!! Tons of animals. Great Staff.
Great day today! There was a very serious issue with the checkout machines at the cafe in the swamp, but hopefully they were able to get that resolved.
We enjoyed you little zoo, but we disappointed that so many animal displays were empty. It is a lovely zoo and much bigger than we originally thought, but would have liked to see more. We got discounted tickets. The actual price is too high for the zoo, in my opinion. We did enjoy our day there however. Thank you!
