The whole experience was incredible!! Andrea was such a wonderful guide on the trip to and from LaPaz and the lunch we had on the way home was a fun part of the trip!! She taught us a lot about the area and the local marine life. Our guide on the boat Raphael-also amazing- he was so great helping our kids get right next to the whale shark and him and our captain helped position us so we had lots of time swimming at arms length from the whale shark. It’s a long day but worth it to swim next to these beautiful creatures. So grateful for this day and the people who made it such an awesome experience. Highest recommendation for the team at CaboTrek!!

The meeting point is in our office in Cabo San Lucas. After checking-in we will start the 2,5 hours drive to La Paz where the activity takes place. In La Paz we'll receive a briefing about the whale sharks and then start our 2,5-3 hours boat ride where we will have multiple chances to swim with the sharks. Around 1 pm we should be back at the dock and will head to a local restaurant for some amazing fish tacos before we start our journey back to Cabo. Last but not least we will have a break at the Hotel California in Todos Santos as an extra added bonus.

1. Communication was excellent. Our ticket said to arrive at their office at 6am. They texted & called us the night before to make sure we got their message about the time change to 8:30 am. (It’s not really mentioned but the govt controls the # of boats & the times they go out to see the Whale Sharks) Tour companies have no control over this. 2. Information from both our driver (Tia)& Paula our tour leader and Biologist guide regarding the Whale Sharks was very interesting. Expectations were explained with regard to our interactions with the Whale Sharks & the rules governing the Marine Park explained. All questions were answered b4 going to the boat. They supplied fins, masks, snorkels & shorty wet suits for those that wanted them. As we were there in early March, the water was still cold. We chose to bring all of our own gear. But all you really needed to bring was a towel, camera & water bottle. Maybe a change of clothes if you’re like us. Coming from Cabo is a 2.5 hr drive to La Paz & back. 3. We had a delicious lunch at a local restaurant in La Paz that’s included while waiting for our time to go out. Alcohol drinks not included. 4. We drove to the port to meet Paula & Niko? Our boat captain. Paula reviewed all info re:Whale Sharks & rules in the park as mentioned above. At the boat wet suits were handed out & we headed out. 5. Boat has a canopy so you’re in the shade if you choose. Waves were pretty choppy, 3-4ft so water was pretty murky. Visibility wasn’t the best. There was only 6 of us so we went out in groups of 2-4. There were at least 6 Whale Sharks feeding while we were there. Everyone had as much time as they wanted to spend with the Whale Sharks as we were a small group & my husband & I opted to only go out once. We were able to get some great pics from our time in the water & actually even better ones from our position in the boat as they swam right at us several times. 6. I would definitely recommend going with CaboTrek. It’s worth the extra cost to be guaranteed a spot on a boat going out. Their company/people were all wonderful. We’re actually planning on going back when the water is more calm & clear. They are gentle giants.
Absolutely amazing guides. You will definitely see whale sharks. The lunch after at a local restaurant was amazing as well.
On Tuesday, we swam with the most magnificent juvenile whale sharks in La Paz. It was an extraordinary experience to be in the presence of these gentle giants, and our guide Paola and captain Edgar were absolutely fantastic. An amazing swimmer and multi-tasker, Paola did an excellent job of ensuring that we always knew where to be, that we stayed safe, and that we followed all of the regulations to keep the whale sharks safe. I really appreciated that she prioritized the well-being of the whale sharks, and it is clear that this is not "just a job" for her; she is genuinely passionate about marine wildlife and very knowledgeable. We were surrounded by whale sharks for the entire encounter, and it was utterly magical. I'm not generally a fan of animal encounters that are potentially disruptive to the wildlife, but in this case, we chose Cabo Trek specifically because they are an ethical operator that partners with the Whale Shark Research Project, and I am so glad we made that choice. I really appreciate how highly regulated the activity is here in general, and that the regulations are very strictly enforced to protect the whale sharks, while also allowing us to get a tiny glimpse into their world. I would highly recommend Cabo Trek for this outing and especially with Paola as a guide; it was superb!!
We had an amazing time. Maris was a wonderful host and very informative. In addition to swimming with the whale sharks, we enjoyed wonderful food. The trip was long 2 hours each way and about 30 minutes by boat to get to the correct part of the bay. The time was definitely worth it,
The Swimming with Whale Sharks in La Paz tour is truly a unique experience. I feel honored that I got to swim so close to these magnificent creatures. Maria and Adriana were such great guides who truly went out of their way to ensure that everyone had the best experience during the day. The Marine Biologists who taught us about Whale Sharks and knew exactly how to find them were top notch. You could tell that all truly love what they do. In order to get the most out of this tour, it's important to keep these points in mind: 1) This is a full day tour that involves a lot of driving (2+ hours each way to La Paz) and a lot of time on the boat to get to the area where the whale sharks are. (They aren't just hanging out by the shore waiting for you to come hang out with them. ;-) ) 2) Ensure you have good equipment and it's working well before you spot the first whale shark. 3) Be prepared to jump in the water from the boat quickly when you spot a whale shark. You'll do this several times. 4) Be prepared for the whale shark to suddenly decide to move on to another spot - quickly. They're fast. You won't get in their way because you'll be swimming beside them, but it does mean that you have to be quick sometimes in order to observe the individual. Again, you'll get several opportunities to get close to one. You just need to be patient. 5) Enjoy and cherish the moments when you are near the whale sharks.
AMAZING - this is a bucket list adventure and would encourage anyone to go. The shark we swam along- side was a "teenager" male approx 16' long. He was big but it was so peaceful. We each got two 5 min swims with the whale shark which might not sound like much but it is a bit tiring to keep up with him (i am not the best swimmer) so it was perfect. Our marine biologist guide was extremely knowledgeable...it took a little time to find him (it was cloudy they day we went) but she delivered! Thank you Cabo Trek and to everyone else please don't hesitate to book this adventure
This excursion has a few parts to it. The drive to La Paz and then the whale shark excursion. The drive is approximately 2 hours each way. We had a very nice drive with Phillip both ways, he was super friendly and very informational. We stopped for a nice quick breakfast on the way to La Paz. The whale shark tour was fun but on our particular day it was more cloudy and the water visibility was not very good. We only had 3 customers on the boat which was nice. We spent a few hours on the water. Isaak (sp) was our guide and Eric our captain, they were both very nice and Isaak spent a bit of time discussing whale sharks and what to expect once we were in the water. We had multiple jumps into the water to check out the whale sharks which was nice. It was hard swimming to get to them, they try real hard to get sort of close with the boat but can't get too close. You swim hard with the guide and then swim closer to the whale sharks. As I expected, the whale sharks swimming slowly definitely outpaced us swimming hard. We did get to see a few whale sharks and was very close ( 6 ft) away on a a few. I do wish the water visibility was better but that is the way the dice rolls. The captain and the guide worked really hard to get us as many views of the whales as possible. We were pleased with their excitement, knowledge and friendliness. Before the ride back to Cabo, we had a great lunch and at a nice local restaurant, we really enjoyed the food and drink. Phillip was super nice to be so conversational with us on the ride home, I know it was a long day for him. Overall enjoyed the experience, wished we could have had better visibility but that is in Mother Natures control. Thanks to all for a overall good experience. ps - Go Inter-Milan :)
WOW! Everything was incredible! Phillip was awesome - took us to a GREAT breakfast spot. Lots of awesome conversation!! And then our whale shark guide, Fatima, was out of this world!!! She was fun and knew so much and some really powerful stories to tell! We were on the boat for a half hour to the whale shark spot which was totally worth it - we saw three whale sharks including a baby!!!! Phillip picked us back up, took us to a GREAT lunch spot, then got us home literally at the exact time he said he would! If you’re even thinking about this tour, Cabo Trek should be your only option!!! 🧡🧡🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🐋
The amount of whale sharks we saw was incredible. The guide and captain did a great job of spotting them, providing our group with multiple opportunities to get in the water with these amazing creatures. We took lots of pics and even saw a manta ray! The stops for food before and after the tour were definitely appreciated too.
Awesome trip, amazing opportunity to swim right beside these monstrous and beautiful creatures. Highly recommend that you take an underwater camera or GoPro!
The feeling when in the water next to a whale shark: incredible! Five stars. The staff: all friendly and professional. However, meeting what was "guaranteed" on the Cabo Trek website for this activity? Zero stars. Specifically the two points below, which are given as reasons why you should choose the company: - there were 15 of us tourists squished into a small boat. This meant less time in the water for each person and it got a bit chaotic during group changes. - the guide on the boat was not a marine biologist and gave no educational info about the whale sharks. The experience was still wonderful. I expect that it is largely because we went during 'the busiest week of the year' around Christmas/ New Years, when the university is quiet and some of the marine bio qualified staff have returned to their homes for the holidays. What was a big positive is that Dr D Whitehead spoke to us just before we jumped on the boat. That was really interesting and valuable, and he made us all feel excited and special to be there that day. It sounds as though the Cabo Trek leadership do provide financial support to the research etc. I think what would have helped is clear communication from the outset about the plan for the day. At no point was it mentioned that there would be so many of us in the same boat (there were 9 of us in the mini van from Cabo San Lucas to La Paz plus our driver, then 6 more were crammed into the boat at the last minute in La Paz). Guessing this wasn't Cabo Trek's intent, but opportunistic local guides making extra coin during the busy holidays? Unsure why, but it's a pity nothing was raised to question it at the time. And it wasn't acknowledged afterwards either, despite some of us selecting this tour quite a while in advance of the holiday, over cheaper tour provider specifically because of the guaranteed smaller numbers in each boat. What could also help manage expectations is an early group chat from the driver about likely timings for the day. This was sort of done at our brunch break but some key points were missing. Personally I'd been excited about the 0630 start, so we could get early calm clear waters and back to La Paz in the afternoon, and am thankful for the contact from the team the day before to inform us of the revised 0730 meeting time (0800 departure from Cabo). It could help to include an expected return time too, and a loose schedule for the day. For us, we drove straight to brunch (our one meal for the day, a big feed at about 0930am, delicious but probably not ideal for anyone who had eaten breakfast already), then to La Paz for a drive along the shore and short walk, chat with Dr DW, boat (we were allocated the fourth boat slot) snorkel, back to shore (no showers, one single public restroom on the beach with many people in queue), back in van and direct to Cabo with no stops. We got back after 8pm. Completely understand that the timings for the boat being allocated the 2hr window in the conservation area is outside any tour provider's control, and we're grateful to have been able to go at all. Clear communications would just help people understand and plan better, and avoid any disappointment about missed dinner plans etc if home late. Other points - didn't seem to be enough water for everyone, pack your own. Appeared to be plenty of soda and package candy in the van though if you're hungry on the way home. So overall - such a special experience to swim with the whale sharks. Probably this tour operator is a good choice outside of the late December holiday period, unfortunately we found that it didn't meet our expectations on a couple of main fonts, so we would have been better off selecting another company (there were a few other options still available when we booked) and putting the entire cost difference directly into marine research ourselves.
This was an amazing trip! Cabo Trek and Phillip were excellent. Full of information and they aim to please. We felt like we were in good hands. The whale sharks were amazing. We swam with several and our guides got us right there. They gave good instruction to protect them as well. It was really incredible. On the way back we were treated to a wonderful lunch at a local restaurant in La Paz. Then we asked about Hotel California, and we made a quick stop there to check it out. Phillip is the best and we will be taking Cabo Trek trips again. We had two teens with us and they had a great time. Said it was one of the best things they did and were totally surprised with how amazing it was.
This trip has been on my bucket list for three years, and it did not disappoint. All small groups got into the water with whale sharks three or four times. They made sure that those that did not see the fish on the first time had extra chances to try again. I had up close and personal time with the whale shark twice. It was fantastic!
Pia was so helpful in restaurants, arranged for photos while swimming with the whale sharks, a very safe driver - Thank you! Christy and the Captain on the boat were awesome! Christy led us on the swims, kept us safe and helped us see the whale sharks eating. Thank you! A couple things would help us prepare: Let us know we would be stopping for breakfast on way to La Paz, we would have wetsuits on the boat, and to wear biodegradable sunscreen.
Amazing once in a lifetime experience! Loads of whale sharks, rays, and whales! The guides were incredible and provided great conversation, education and awareness of marine life! Sooo highly recommend Cabo Trek!
We loved our guide and the small group setting. It was amazing to see the whale sharks and the guide made sure everyone had a chance. Looking into their eye was something amazing!!! The guide did not seem to overwhelm the shark and that made me feel good because I have seen how some tours can swarm animals. When you get close it’s hectic because they can swim away but the guide helped tremendously in getting us there and helping us negotiate to the animal. The water was very rough and the swimming required was a bit tricky. I think I would have been concerned about smaller children bc it’s hard to look for the guide and shark in large waves - keeping a hold on small kids would have been a lot. That said, the boat driver also kept an eye on everyone so that made me feel safe.
Our family had an awesome experience with Angelika! She has a depth of knowledge on whale sharks and other marine life. She was a fantastic host, making sure we were comfortable during the car ride and during the whole experience. She had us so well informed on what to expect before we even got there. There were MANY whale sharks and we had plenty of opportunities to view them up close. Highly recommend!
We had an amazing excursion with Cabo Trek while visiting mid-end of January. At first, conditions weren't ideal and, rather than cancel our excursion, we were luckt enough that we could reschedule and conditions complied. Biggest point of confusion for us was the part about needing transportation. We thought we needed to find transportation to La Paz, when in reality, we just needed to find our own way to their location in the Cabo Marina near the El Tesoro Hotel. Angelica / Angie was our guide– she was exceptionally knowledgeable, accommodating, and caring/comforting. She had all the tips and took us to some great local food spots (incredibly delicious). The only bummer, really, was that there wasn't enough room for her on the boat that day! There are truly no words to describe seeing a whale shark for the first time, let alone getting to swim with them. A full wetsuit (vs. shorty) is definitely recommended for this time of year. I realize the forecast claimed the water was 80ºF, however, the wind and sporadic drizzle made it feel much cooler. All that my parents, partner, and I can say is this excursion was well worth the money for their hospitality, knowledge, partnership/conservation efforts, and whale sharks. Thank you again for an amazing experience -- we will definitely be back for another adventure!
We snorkeled with Whale Sharks in La Paz. Angie our driver and guide was so sweet and knowledgeable. We stopped for a great breakfast and got to bay with a nice drive. Darren in the bay gave us a great briefing on the sharks. Jay on the boat was amazing!!!! Once we got to the shark he showed us everything and took turns sharing the experience with evenly. The water was much colder than we were expecting and visibility was about 5-6 feet. I went back in to swim with with the shark for a second time. I would highly recommend Cabotrek!! True bucket list adventure for ♥️♥️♥️♥️
I did both scuba diving and whale shark snorkel. The whale shark experience was amazing, but would have been better with full wet suit. Scuba diving we were the only 2 so had a dive master Angelica and the captain. So special that Cano trek took us even with just 2 divers. My dive buddy had some trouble getting down and she was a previous dive master. She needed some more weight and she asked me to mention if the dive master had more experience and “put hands on” taken her hand with the extra weight and helped her down she would have completed the dives. But due to the difficulty she choose not to dive. The visibility was not good but that is just diving. I appreciate that they honored the reservation and I got to dive regardless of the conditions. I will use this operator in the future and have recommended them to my sister. They coordinated our hotel, trip etc seamless and was patient in answering all of my emails and questions quickly. Also introduced themselves. Other then the unusual cold weather, the experiences were above my expectations. Thank you all the people who made my trip so special.
It's hard to articulate this experience in words. What majestic creatures - I am still in awe! Cabo Trek (Carlos) made certain we were comfortable and safe, and taught us so much about the whale sharks. Our 5 person group ranged from age 64 to 1 year old. We took turns holding the baby on the boat so the adults could go in. The 6 year old even went in! The seas were choppy and windy on our day, which is great for seeing the whale sharks feed, but tough on those prone to sea sickness. Thanks to Cabo Trek for a memorable experience!!
Wonderful time snorkeling with the whale sharks in La Paz. Emmy and Mike were our guides and they were super helpful and super knowledgeable. Cabo adventures even arranged to come and pick us up along with others and transport us to the marina. No extra charge for that. I would suggest though, that when they say be ready to go, they mean be ready to go! Have your mask/fins on and ready to jump.… The whale sharks do not hover in one place they swim around eating plankton, once you see them, keep swimming! Highly recommend-well worth the money and time!!!
We had a wonderful day trip to La Paz to see whale sharks with Carlos! We have had great experiences with Cabo Trek before, so we weren't surprised that our guide was awesome and respectful of wildlife. We were traveling with friends with limited snorkeling experience, and who were in Cabo for the first time. They had a blast and learned a lot on this excursion! We were lucky to have seen a whale shark this late in the season! Carlos is interesting and informative, and we all really enjoyed his company. He is a wealth of information about marine biology, and an experienced freediver, We look forward to future adventures with Cabo Trek.
We had a wonderful experience snorkeling with whale sharks in La Paz. This was a bucket list trip! The guides were really knowledgeable and took time to answer all of our questions, and we had a lot! We felt very safe and felt like the animals were protected as well. It was an amazing experience to be in the water with these magnificent fish. The lunch afterwards at a traditional taco shop in town was delicious and made us feel like locals. I would recommend this tour for anyone looking to swim with whale sharks.
The entire tour was so well organized and executed by Phillips's team. Phillip had special diving suits and snorkeling gear for our 12 and 9 yr old sons and they fit perfectly Monik our tour guide and escort did an excellent job--it was a long drive there and back and she made sure we were comfortable during the journey and the excursion. Our snorkeling guide on the tour was a Whale shark lover and expert marine biologist, Darren. It was great to hear about whale sharks and the work being done to study and save these endangered sharks. He made sure our little boys felt safe and comfortable in the water swimming next to the sharks. In fact our younger one , initially scared , was so excited, he swam for a long time. The bonus on trip was a quick detour to the city of Todo Santos and visiting "Hotel California". All in all a a once in lifetime experience for sure! Thanks to Phillip, Monik and Darren, We are surely sharing the info with our friends who plan to visit Cabos in future!.
Absolutely impressed with the knowledge of the biologist that accompanied us!! By far, the professionalism, expertise, and commitment to conservation is what will keep us returning to this company for future trips!
Swimming with a whale shark! I was able to go in five times with the shark, so got amazing views. We also had five dolphins surround our boat and play on the ride back.
Amazing! Do it!! Bucket List!!! Cabo Trek is one of the only experienced tour operators certified by the World Cetacean Alliance! This means that your tour is exclusive, informative, fun, environmentally conscious, good for the whales, and you will walk away with a ton of knowledge and appreciation for these amazing creatures in the wild, without being surrounded by 17 other boats harassing a whale and her calf! Cabo Trek is the Right way to do whale watching and Whale Shark encounter experiences Period! Their equipment is top notch, fast and fun! Even the snorkel gear was great! Our group went with adventurepeople.net to Cabo and had a safe and super fun trip with fellow adventurers! We were accompanied by Cabo Trek owner- Phillip, and Marine Biologist- Carlos during our adventurous journey to swim with the whale sharks, also to see and experience the other whale tours during the migration and calving period! Combine a few tours together for a fun week! We did and loved it!
Our tour guide (Phillip) and marine biologist (Carlos) were amazing! They picked us up on time, made sure we were safe on board and were very knowledgeable. They gave us loads of info on all sea creatures and answered lots of questions. My group was especially impressed with their compassion for keeping the oceans clean and the whales safe. The highlight of our trip was swimming with a whale shark. FANTASTICO! I also recommend the humpback & gray whale excursions. An unexpected bonus was our guide capturing phenomenal drone footage and sharing it with us on What's App. Plus, our guide made recommendations on unique places to eat and joined us on most of the meals. Our experiences with Cabo Trek were over the top. Very professional and enjoyable. Two Thumbs Up!
Stop what you’re doing and BOOK THIS EXCURSION. We cannot say enough amazing things about this excursion and Cabo Trek. We traveled to Cabo very last minute which meant a lot of tours, excursions and day trips were already booked. We called around to many companies to try and book a trip up to La Paz to swim with the whale sharks and we’re feeling pretty defeated with everything booked. Swimming with the whale sharks was our goal and dream for this trip!! Cabo Trek was so awesome to give us a glimmer of hope and see what they could do. Amazingly enough, they found 2 spots for us and we were so excited! We left for La Paz at 7am and stopped for a great breakfast at about the halfway point. Very good! Bring cash and take some burritos to go to snack on later in the day! When we got to La Paz we had a little time to kill before the boat left so we grabbed coffee in town. The boat typically holds 13 people (including captain and guide) but due to COVID there were only 6 of us (crew included). This meant the tour was very intimate and personal. We had to wait for several hours to enter into the bay where the whale sharks are, as it’s very protected with strict rules. This was no problem as it was a nice day and we hung out on the beach in the sand and relaxed! Be patient during this time as it is NOT the tours fault. The government of Mexico has placed strict rules involving the whale sharks and only so many boats are allowed in at a time. Swimming with the whale sharks was incredible! They are so beautiful and quite fast so be prepared to swim and swim hard! They provided snorkels, fins and wetsuits. There was also beverages and some small snacks on the boat. I cannot describe how incredible this experience was as you should experience it for yourself. We were also pleasantly surprised to be visited by a humpback whale!! After our time on the water was up we were taken to a taco restaurant in La Paz which was once again great!! Our day lasted about 12 hours! Plan accordingly and go with the flow. The animals and wait times are unpredictable. Pack snacks, reef safe sunscreen, towels, water, cash, your go pro and a change of clothes for later. We were so so so impressed by this trip and can’t say enough positive things about it and Cabo Trek! Lovely owner and great conversation on the drive to and from La Paz. We would not hesitate to book another excursion again through Cabo Trek! SERIOUSLY BOOK IT!!!!
Phillip at Cabo Trek was fantastic. Despite a shortage in whale shark permits, and after much last minute scrambling around to find anyone who had permits and/or space on a tour, Phillip made it happen. He was quick to respond to my request, confirmed all the details, offered to pick us up from the hotel the next day, and personally drove us 2 hours to La Paz and back for the tour. We stopped at a great place for brunch and he took time to get to know us, as well as to educate us about the local area and whale sharks. He's very knowledgeable and passionate about marine life and exploring and knows some great places to go. The snorkel trip itself was great. Phillip handed us off to a couple of guides who took care of us during the tour, educated us further about sharks, and debriefed us on what we were to do. He would have joined and personally guided us, but permits for guides were limited bc COVID. Anyway, we saw sharks pretty soon after arriving, and we made about 5-6 passes to see them up close. It was about a 2 hour boat excursion that I'll never forget. Phillip was ready to pick us up and we walked to a nearby place for yummy fish tacos/empanadas, then drove back. He offered a stop at a small town along the way in case we wanted to soak in more culture, but we were tired. All in all, Phillip and Cabo Trek went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience and I felt like we were well taken care of, and that I got to know Cabo and the local area much better with his help. Plus, whale sharks are AMAZING. Really. Go see them.
We had the most amazing time snorkeling with the Whale Sharks in La Paz. Cabo Trek offered us a smaller tour group (4 people) and made the drive out to La Paz more intimate. Luci our guide was knowledgeable and extremely accommodating. The experience is unlike any other. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
We took whale shark tour in February 17 2020! We started out in Cabos where tour company picked us up and drove us to La Paz! Company was on time and supplied snacks! Tour guide explained tour in detail and was very helpful! We saw a huge whale shark and where so close we could have touched it but of course that is not allowed!! On way home from tour we stopped at local Mexican restaurant which was included in price of tour.I would recommend this tour, well worth the money!
This experience is so unique, and so powerful. Friendly guides, well planned out. The experience with the whale sharks is like no other. My only suggestions would be to find a bit more time with the marine biologist to understand a bit more about these majestic creatures. I understand the rush to get our place in line, and am very happy we did not have to wait for the next 2 hour group. But maybe then have his join us for lunch to help us better understand this species. Lunch was a great relaxing spot. My other suggestion would be to have some scuba practice on the sand bar while waiting to enter the sanctuary. Just so that when the whale shark is going by, you are fully prepared and ready to get the most out of that experience. Carlos was great, and Hugo was great.
It was awesome! The guides were great! Could not keep up, so the guide took my hand and pulled me so I could see the whale sharks. It was a very small group, so got to jump in quite a few times. Could not have been better! The Marine Biologist, Darrin, was so knowledgeable. The 2+ hour drive from Cabo to La Paz went by quickly. Our driver/guide, Phillip, kept us entertained. It was a fabulous day! The best experience ever!
We had a great day swimming with the beautiful whale sharks, and a pod of bottle nose dolphins decided they would join us. It was amazing, as they really just seemed to want to hang out with us in the water. The whale sharks were close enough to touch (never!) and our guide worked hard to keep us close to them. But the drive to La Paz was great too and Lucy was wonderful, even stopping for breakfast, and later for lunch. Once in a lifetime experience...or maybe we will come back!
Excellent trip which included a gentleman with a PhD in Whale Sharks. Very knowledgeable. Great 50th Birthday present to get to tick this one off the bucket list.
Carlos was very knowledgeable! We learned a lot about whales and their habits and migratory patterns. We saw at least 7 whales and the captain tried to get us as close as is allowed. It was worth every penny!
We traveled with Philipp to La Paz for the Whale Shark tour, and I can honestly say that it is something I will never forget. It's a unique experience to swim with a creature so large and so gentle. Philipp was an excellent host, and the trip was well worth the money. It also includes some stops to some delicious local food places along the way. I highly recommend Cabo Trek as a company, and we will be returning for other tours in the future!
Wow, what a cool adventure. Our PhD "guide" on the water was the best! So much information, very interesting and truly fun day. I highly recommend this to all ocean-lovers touring to Cabo!
We just got back from our trip and seeing a whale shark in person was on my bucket list. First off, I would highly recommend Cabo Trek as a whole based on their entire philosophy around education. I graduated with a degree in Marine Biology and while I no longer work in the field, I can still appreciate the fact that we had both a Masters and PhD candidate on board with us. The PhD candidate was actually doing research on whale sharks. Regarding the trip itself. First off, if you are leaving from the Cabo office DO NOT EAT BREAKFAST! What they don't tell you is you stop at this little breakfast joint on the way in the middle of nowhere. They are slinging out breakfast tacos and are likely some of the best you'll find in the area. I wish I would have known about this before eating hotel huevos rancheros. Second, don't expect to have crystal clear water. I see a lot of the review pics in blue water or slightly cloudy. I really wish we had that kind of visibility, but ours was closer to about 6 feet. I still saw the sharks, and will likely try again later in the season (October is the beginning). This is not a reflection of Cabo Trek in any way as they have no control over where the sharks are feeding. Worth every penny and I will 100% use Cabo Trek again for this and other tours they offer.
This is a long day from Cobo But very well worth it The tour guide was awesome The groups on the boats are small so there is lots of opportunities to swim with these gentle giants The first swim I was so scared, but it got better and better we were impressed with how organized the day was Highly recommend this
My wife and I had no idea what a whale shark looked like when we booked this, but we thought it would be nice to combine a snorkel trip with visiting La Paz, which we heard was a nice town. We lucked out when we saw the Cabo Trek web site on swimming with the whale sharks, since in my opinion they are an awesome group of people. They had a guy working on his Ph.d on whale sharks that gave a great overview once we got to La Paz. Both the boat captain and the snorkel leader were very friendly and put everyone at ease. It was a blast swimming along with the "adolescent" whale sharks that were 24 feet long. Honestly, one of the things that this so much fun was riding up to La Paz with Philipp. He is warm and friendly, and has a great story on how he ended up in Cabo. After the snorkeling he took us out to eat, and we had a fantastic meal of smoked marlin empanadas al fresco. I highly recommend this outfit. We also went with them for a whale watching tour, and I'll mention two things common to both trips: out boat was nicer (covered in the main seating area) and we had fewer people on board, so it was easier moving around. From out vantage point, most of the other boats were packed to the gills, and did not have a covered boat. Worth every penny!!
I was traveling solo for only a week in Cabo and really wanted to snorkel with whale sharks in La Paz. (I also ended up doing a whale-watching tour with CaboTrek). In researching tour groups, I prioritized choosing a company that was reputable, upheld good ethical standards, and were interested and passionate about marine biology/conservationism/sustainable ocean cleanup. In getting to know the amazing crew, like Katia and Nicolas, I could tell they were passionate about their work which made my experience all the more enjoyable and meaningful. Initially, my scheduled whale shark tour was canceled due to rough current conditions. However, Philipp was very accommodating and found a way for me to last-minute join a different tour group in the short time that I was there. The whale shark experience is a little pricey but that's due to transportation from Cabo San Lucas to La Paz. The drive to La Paz is about 2.5 hours but it went by quickly for me. La Paz is a lovely town, and CaboTrek's sister shop in La Paz also has a great crew. That day, I swam alongside maybe 7 or so whale sharks that day and was floored by how beautiful they were. I knew I'd love the experience, but I really didn't want the day to end! I could have swam with the whale sharks all day. The crew works so hard and are very kind and accommodating. I had a great time with CaboTrek!
Booked online before we left home - EXCELLENT service and response from Philip. Well handled, quick, thorough. Same thing when we did the tour (which we did in La Paz - did not travel from Cabo to La Paz for this as we were staying in la Paz). They actually sub contracted to DEEP BAJA and it was excellent. Just excellent. The tour with Deep Baja was run by research scientists and not only was great care taken around the whale sharks, they actually gave us an education too. Then when we did go to Cabo San Lucas, we decided to look them up because of our great experience in La Paz and first thing was reception at the Tesoro hotel did not know who they were. We found them after walking around with a Tesoro staff person and found the door was locked, no one there and sign said open. As we leave, we hear from behind "you want something"...we say we hoping to do a snorkel trip today or tomorrow and he is rude and uninterested. "No we have nothing for snorkeling you had to book two weeks ago". And he leaves. Without question it tainted our experience and this rating. We did book a snorkel trip for the next morning with a great company and it was almost private - only 4 of us on the trip with the young, keen and pleasant guide.
Had a great day, Nick was the guide, there were 4 of us with another family of 4. I would do it again in a second. Darrin was the guide on the boat. The staff was incredible. We were in the water with 5 whale sharks around us. I think this was the best excursion we have ever taken. Thank you for the trip.
My family and I went on the whale shark tour while here in cabo! It was an outstanding day! The service was incredible and the guides were very informative with all their knowledge of the whale sharks. We had no trouble seeing them and each group of about 3 or 4 got in about 4 times to swim with them. Swimming with the whale sharks was incredible, and my nieces were amazed! What makes this experience so great is not only the friendly staff but the fact that they only allow such a small number on their tours, this allowed everyone ample opportunity to see the sharks. They also take you to a lovely lunch and a stop at “The Hotel California “ with a little shopping and ice cream in between! I highly recommend this tour! And a special thanks to Nicholas and Sophie for making our day incredible!
What a great day of adventure on our Whale Shark Snorkeling Excursion. The staff was so fantastic and knowledgeable - not your regular sight seeing tour. The Whale Shark’s themselves are very impressive, you can’t truly appreciate their size until you see them in real life. Would highly recommend this tour to everyone - it’s a must !
Great whale shark adventure. Have never laughed so hard. We drove 2hrs to la Paz. When we arrived we had a guy who was getting his PhD in whale sharks explain all about the fish. Turns out they are still a huge mystery. Side note: during high season the government limits the number of boats that access the whale shark area. Which is a great idea but it's Mexico. So we got on the boat at 10am and waited in line. Some how we kept getting bumped down the list. And bumped. And bumped. So we got to know each other. Honestly the people on the boat made this trip. We laughed so hard. We learned how everyone met their significant other. We watched the epic struggle between German efficiency vs Mexican Time. We also learned about someone's fascination with turtles. 😉 At 3pm our number was called!!! We were so worried nothing would be worth 5hrs of waiting. Whale sharks are! It worked out well for us. At this time of day there were 1/10 the number of boats. This meant there was less competition for sharks, less noise to scare them off, and we got a lot more time with the fish. Important note: unlike most snorkeling where the goal is to be slow and stealthy, whale sharks are fast. So practice your breaststroke. Thank you Nick and Hugo for an amazing time and great laughs.
