This is a REALLY unique and special experience. This ranch supports conservation of not only the Donkeys, but of the local sea turtles. They have such a special mission and the animals are clearly well cared for and loved. Our guides José and Abel were absolutely amazing. It’s clear Jose has been with the ranch for a long time with how the donkeys respected him and he knew all of their quirks. And Abel, my goodness we could not have asked for a better guide to educate us on the ecosystem, Mexican history, plants/animals. I highly recommend this tour for animal lovers, people that like unique experiences and the view that you hike to is absolutely stunning. I have never done an excursion like this before and that’s the goal for us when on vacation - making once in a lifetime memories and this was definitely the case.

Itinerary
You will be picked up from your hotel or head directly to the ranch (whichever you prefer) and come and enjoy of this wonderful and unique adventure. On this ranch located close to the Pacific Ocean shores, you will go hiking with a Mexican donkey in a attempt to recreate how the older generations in Mexico used to transport big cargos of food and water. You'll begin by being introduced to your donkey as it will be handed to you. From then on you will have the control of it On the way up while hiking, you'll have the chance to feed the donkey and even interact with it. Your guide will take you to different attraction points where you'll have the chance to take pictures and walk for a while for wonder. Once it is time to go, your guide will let you know. Enjoy the walk and marvel at the incredible and unique views. After the tour, you'll head back to your hotel. Note: The ranch's mission is to transform the quality of life of donkeys and also bring them close to people so they enjoy this particular, intelligent, curious and loving animal. They do this by proposing positive human and donkey interactions, as well as transforming the public’s understanding of the donkey’s role.

We enjoyed the view from the hike and our guides were very nice. However, what was advertised as a 3.75 excursion lasted maybe half that long. Also, we were promised snacks and were not given any food. I cannot recommend this as good value for money.
Rancho Carisuva is truly a special experience. The ranch is a sanctuary and their tours are filled with passion because the volunteers care about their work! They are conservationists and advocate for the welfare of the animals. The donkey hike was spectacular and our guides, Max & Margot, were kind, personable, and knowledgeable. Our driver was safe and punctual. I highly recommend this unique experience. All the tours at Rancho Carisuva support the rescue efforts of the ranch. There is heart at this place and it hosts the most fulfilling tours.
I really enjoyed this activity. This is a good tour for animal lovers or someone who wants something slow paced and different. The staff was polite and very knowledgeable about the donkeys and the history of the area.
Great experience for animal lovers. You are paired with a wonderful donkey for a hike through the desert to an amazing vista where you can spot whales cruising on the pacific coast during season of course. You then continue down the beach with your trusty donkey partner. Afterwards you can stay and enjoy the farm and or the beach. It is a great eco friendly experience.
You should be in pretty good physical condition just because there are some small hills and deep sand we walked through, plus you have to try to stay in front of your donkey which is easier said than done! But overall we really enjoyed it. The guide (don't remember her name-she was from France) was very patient, sweet, and knowledgeable. The donkeys were adorable and they sometimes got a little feisty but were fun to be around. If you love animals you will probably enjoy this experience. The ocean views are incredible and almost worth the price of the excursion itself!
Great easy hike with cute donkeys and lots of whale sightings. Guide was great and knowledgeable about land, sea, and air
We had a great time! My adult daughter found this activity and I’m so glad we did it. Our guide Roman was great! He was always looking out for us and very kind to the donkeys. The donkeys were great as well. Just be prepared for hiking on dense fine sand. All the staff were fabulous and the facility is very nice too. Enjoyed the treats for the donkeys and hikers at the end! Unique experience!
It's a really fun and unique experience. The volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable. The donkeys were adorably stubborn yet cooperative. The walk was beautiful; we got to see a lovely view of the beach and the ocean. A great family activity or if you're in the mood for something different while supporting a great cause.
The rest of my family went horseback riding (and loved it), but I chose the burro walk. It was just me (a female of somewhat advanced age), Jade (a lovely young woman) and Felipe, our recalcitrant burro. I had a great time, but Felipe made it a better story by being a rather reluctant walker. Jade handled him well, and we completed the walk to the beach (amazing close-by whale sightings) and to the overlook (more whales!). On our way back, we even posed for California tourists who wanted a picture of us(!) with Felipe. Just for the record, the walk to the beach is through fairly deep, uncompacted sand so it's unsuitable for people who might have balance issues or prefer secure footing.
We booked a hike with a donkey on New Year's Day. We could not find a ride from our hotel in Cabo out to the ranch and so we tried to cancel a couple of days before. We heard nothing from Rancho Carisuva. We tried calling their number and emailing but we heard nothing to confirm that the trip was canceled. Thinking we would get charged for the excursion if we did not show, we finally found a very expensive ride to the ranch on New Year's Day. When we arrived, there was no tour. A person from the ranch said they cancelled our excursion but we could get our money back since there was no tour. Despite more calls and emails, we have heard nothing from Rancho Carisuva and they have not reimbursed our money. A simple call, text or email would have saved us a lot of time and money.
My husband and I were on the tour by ourselves and it was amazing! Roman was our guide and he was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and all of the things going on (including the turtle hatchery on the beach). The donkeys were great, the views were amazing and we even saw a couple of humpback whales jumping when we were at the point. Fab experience!
Great experience!! We had a fantastic time with Ramon and the donkeys. He was very accommodating throughout the experience, ready to help in any way possible. This was a short easy walk with our donkeys out to the coast and back with as much time as needed for rest, pictures, etc. We each had our own donkey to lead and could interact with them as we liked. Ramon took some great pictures for us as well with our phones so we didn't need to pay any additional cost to have some digital memories!
Take a donkey for a beach walk, to an outlook, it’s a riot. Beautiful views, clumsy donkeys, relaxed guide, all on the empty beaches in Mexico. We were fortunate to see many whales migrating so close to the shore too. It’s a sandy walk, nothing rigorous, everyone can do it.
Highlight of my trip!! Roman was my guide, and he was so knowledgeable about the animals and vegetation and geology. We had a great hike. I loved my donkey so much. I also saw a bunch of whales breaching. Super cool. Highly recommend.
Luis was a fabulous guide! Our hike with the donkeys was amazing and wow the views from on top of the cliff! We even saw whales out in the distance. Taquito, Carlos and Egor were great! Egor is food motivated😉 I would definitely recommend this excursion especially if you love donkeys like I do!
It's always been on my Bucket List to release sea turtles so we booked our whole family vacation around Cabo to do this. The guides were informative and the experience was truly magical and emotional for me. Truly worth it and the turtles are so cute!
Sunsets and Donkeys., What else do you need! Trip was excellent, Guides were knowledgeable and overall it was fun experience. The donkeys were a little stubborn but a few carrots helped them keep moving! Note: There is a $20 fee per person to enter the Park however, I'm sure it goes to helping the Donkey Rescue!
Pros: - Good views (if your donkey lets you) - Nice and Friendly Guides Cons: - Our tour did not happen during sunset (it was around an hour beforehand). - A couple people in our group were not able to see the views at the peak of the hike because our Donkeys were stubborn and would not move. - There are not snacks provided for humans, I assume the snacks listed were meant for the donkeys.
The tour was unique, but it was really more getting dragged by donkeys on the beach at sunset. The tour is operated by Rancho Carisuva, which also operates several other types of tours from their ranch. The ranch is located about 30 minutes northwest of Cabo San Lucas. It is on a dirt road, west of Hwy 19. Look for Amigos Activities as you are heading north to the Turnaround to head south on Hwy 19. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the tour overall, and liked getting to see all of the animals at the ranch.
WALKING WITH DONKEYS… what else do you need in life? Such an amazing experience. Four of us went and we all gained a donkey best friend… each with different personalities. We will all remember this experience for the rest of our lives… and knowing that our trip was helping save the donkeys is just an added bonus. Thank you again for such a great experience.
We are huge animal lovers and there is nothing that sounds more fun to us thank hiking with donkeys. The experience, however, exceeded our expectations. Sophia and Carla (the people) and Jennifer and Phillipe (the donkeys) were all a delight. Sophia and Carla were passionate, knowledgeable, and so caring. We loved them. Jennifer and Phillipe had strong opinions in the most adorable way. 10/10 experience. If you are on the fence, just book it if you are down for an adventure. Make sure the bring cash to tip the guides!
It was an amazing time! The guides led us on a gorgeous hike along the playa and we enjoyed having Jennifer (the donkey) along. She was so sweet and very loveable.
This is quite the little adventure! If you are looking to laugh and experience something unique, this is your tour. If you haven’t experienced donkeys before, beware. They are stubborn and goofy and they are not going to act like a well seasoned trail horse. That said, they’re most definitely going to keep you laughing and on your toes! My husband and I really enjoyed this experience overall. The donkeys were chosen by their keepers based on which donkeys were eager to come with us. I liked that. Let the burros choose. We were told the Burris were all rescues so that was really nice too.The staff were kind and funny and took tons of photos of our experience. We hiked through a short bit of desert and then onto the coastline. When we arrived back to Rancho Carisuva, we were fed quesadillas with fresh avocado and given shots of Mescal!
Such a fun and scenic hike!!. BEST food, Mezcal and company we had on any tour in cabo. Roger was the perfect combo of fun, informative and professional. Daniel was also a gracious donkey rangler. 10/10 recommend. Do the early tour and you still have rest of day to enjoy pool/beach
I went here with 2 middle school aged boys and a high school aged girl and my girl friend. I had heard about this place when I was at Baja Brew since they shared with me that they donate to this animal rescue- and they look after the donkeys who have been abandoned or surrendered. Roger from Barcelona was our guide and he was very knowledgeable about the plants and the animals. He and his girlfriend were absolutely lovely- they are volunteers at the Ranch, (this means they live off of your tips so please make sure to tip well!!) The donkey who came with us was Rufio- he was so sweet and he had a little tag along friend who followed us the whole journey. Halfway through Roger let me hold Rufio, and I barely had to tug- he was so good at just following me through the remainder of the hike. definitely wear closed toe shoes- you will be walking through a sandy area with cactuses followed by a hike up some steep terrain and then back down along the ocean shore. They were so lovely and they made us a quesadilla meal with cerveza after we got back.
We were picked up from our resort and transported to the ranch where the donkeys and horses live. The landscape is almost untouched. The desert was interesting to walk through with our donkey, Anita. The hike is not challenging but there is some uphill walking. The weather is hot, it is a desert after all! Midway through the tour, we stopped on the beach along the Pacific Ocean for a light lunch. The ocean was ferocious and loved seeing the massive waves crash onto shore. The trip is good for people who enjoy animals.
If you love animals and would enjoy an upclose and personal encounter with a donkey- this is a great activity. Pros: you get to hike out to the Pacific Ocean with a donkey and a guide. The donkey walks along on a lead. Its like walking a huge dog. Our donkey, Anita, was very sweet and gentle. My 12 year old felt very comfortable walking with her. Our guide, Oscar was very informative about the fauna and local culture. Free beach bag size lockers. They seem to take good care of the animals- donkeys and horses for horseback rides. They dont appear to be exploiting the animals. many of the donkeys and horses are rescues. they looked much better than the horses available for rent on our hotels beach Cons: You likely will need to share the shuttle with tourists from other hotels. Our hotel in Cabos del San Jose was only about 20-30 min away, but because we had to get other tourists at other hotels, took an hour trip.
If you want to get out in nature and away from your resort this is the place to come. We visited the Ranch Carisuva Sep 24. Our guide was Oscar who was very knowledgeable about the park, plants and wildlife. Sweet Anita was our companion donkey. Breathtaking views and a great way to get some exercise. They provided round trip transportation. We were provided snacks and drinks along the way. Thank you so much, I would highly recommend.
