Ocean Safari Tour In Cabo San Lucas

I gave them four stars for a couple different reasons. 1. The time of meet up was a little confusing. It shows hours of operation, but doesn’t specifically say meet at x time. We assumed it was hours of operation time, so we weren’t late or anything, but a little more clarity on that would be nice. Our guide and captain was wonderful. Because we went in June, the ocean wasn’t as active. We didn’t get to see any dolphins, or large sharks. The coral reefs also didn’t have an abundance of fish. We did see lots of sea turtles at the surface of the water feeding. One actually came straight up to our boat to check us out. While snorkeling at one of the reefs, we saw a small/baby white tip shark and another sea turtle, along with several species of fish (just not in abundance). Our guide was very knowledgeable about the marine life and she even gave my daughter a couple “lessons” in the water on diving (guide is a deep sea diver). The captain was a great boat operator and I never once felt unsafe on the boat. We attempted to sneak up on one of the sea turtles we saw on the surface but way out into the ocean and the guide thought she saw a shark, so she dived first to ensure our safety. We weren’t quiet enough so didn’t get to see the turtle feasting but we tried. I will say that they also really took their time and took us to different locations so we could see as much marine life as possible, but again due to season, we didn’t see much. It’s just a chance you take. Best time to do this tour is between November - April.

We can’t suggest Julian Castillo enough!! He has so much local knowledge and expertise which makes this trip so amazing. We did the open ocean safari. First we stoped at the arch to take a photo, then proceeded with seeing humpbacks from the boat and dolphins. Julian timed the location of the boat perfectly to allow us to jump in and snorkel with common, spinner and spotted dolphins over 50 of them! The most amazing part about the dolphins was that we saw babies and pregnant dolphins as we viewed them in water. The dolphins also followed along the boat. We also saw turtles and sea lions. We had a great experience with the turtle in the water! We learnt so much about Cabo and its waters. We love Cabo and can’t wait to go on another tour with Julian and his team! Julian and his team always helped with cameras and fins! We can’t wait to go back home and tell all our family and friends about this experience!

What a fun time! Clemence was such an enthusiastic guide. We spotted orcas. It was amazing!! We also were also able to see Humpbacks. Highly recommend this trip. I would go again.Cathy

Clémence, our guide, was wonderful. She's full of interesting facts and positive energy. We were extremely lucky and saw several orcas - what beautiful creatures! An awesome experience to see them in person - crossing that off the bucket list. On the way back, we also saw several humpback whales showing us their fluke. AND some marlins jumping out of the water. Incroyable! Our captain was an expert at navigating some difficult water, too. Highly recommend to anyone looking to experience the magical marine life just outside of Cabo.

Julian and Joy did a great job! They set expectations of the safari noting that spotting wildlife and having encounters is not an every day affair on the Pacific. They helped us be open to whatever the day could bring. We swam with a huge fish spiral and rays. We spent some time spotting whales and found ourselves very close to a pair. We stuck our GoPro under from the side of the boat and were blown away by the footage! It was a great tour! Note- the inclusions did not list that a snack would be provided but Joy brought burritos!

Excellent experience with Julian! He took us to see multiple sites and was a great host making sure that everyone had a great time. We went snorkeling, and spent some time on the beach. Would highly recommend him again.

Julian our captain, Juanito our guide, Peter who booked the whole trip for us, and Mako Sea Wildlife Safari were absolutely amazing. From start to finish they were professional, fun, knowledgeable, well-organized, and friendly. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience, and exceeded my expectations. We were fortunate enough to witness humpback whales breaching and playing near our boat and it was amazing to see these gentle giants in their natural environment. We had a great time on the ocean safari! We spent most of the day following a pod of humpback whales, watching them exhibit awe inspiring breaches. Along the way, we found dolphins, mobula rays, a thresher shark, and a sea turtle. Watching dolphins and humpbacks swim together is a memory we will take with us for a long time. Our guide, Julian, was impressively skilled at spotting animals from far distances. He would see a blowhole upwards of a mile away! Knowing that we saw all the marine animals we could have really makes this money well spent. We got to jump in the water with the dolphins and the sea turtle. Such a cool experience!

If I could leave 10 stars I would. Julian is a whale whisperer! I've been out with him three times now, and each time is unique and personalized. He always knows where to go away from crowds, so you can have your own magical experience whale watching.

We had a great experience! They were very professional, knowledgable and encouraging for 2 city girls out in the middle of the ocean... safe and fun!! We had gone out previously with another company and this one far exceeded our previous experience! We would definitely do it again!! Thank you Antonio and Mario!!

The crew is very knowlegeable and works hard to find ocean life for viewing. We saw whales and sea lions and they even pointed out a puffer fish. They explained the culture and why the area was a gem. Would readily go again. Snorkeling was amazing also.

I can't say enough good things about Julian and the experience he provides to his guests. I randomly found his website when I was planning my first trip to Baja in 2023 and I'm so thankful I decided to book with him. We spent two days on the water with him for our first trip in 2023 and went back in spring 2024 just to spend another few days on an ocean safari with him. He cares greatly about the ocean and it's inhabitants, which was most important to us. The encounters he's provided for us will stay with us forever. We've seen a humpback mother teaching her new baby to breach and play, orcas hunting (not as common so set your expectations), dolphins swimming on the bow of the boat (a common occurrence) and have even been able to swim with a big bait ball and reef sharks. You'll be out on a small boat to get an up close view of the animals (if they're interested) and a guide that will explain the behaviors you're witnessing. An added bonus, Julian brings the most delicious little burritos for his guests as well. If you’re passionate about the wildlife in Baja’s waters, Julian’s the perfect captain for you.

I have been on multiple trips with Julian and will hopefully go on many more. Julian is easily one of the best captains in Cabo. He has an incredible passion for the ocean that is very apparent in the service he provides. He's amazing at spotting marine life during safaris. He'll see a shark way off in the distance, or spot a group or mobula rays long before anyone else on the boat does. It's easy to tell that he genuinely loves his job and loves being able to share that passion with others. If you're looking for an excellent trip with a great captain, look no further!

I can’t recommend Captain Julian enough! He’s incredibly passionate about the ocean, has eyes like a hawk spotting the craziest things, and makes every trip memorable! He brings a beautiful energy to every trip and the ocean gives him magical encounters in return! Book a trip with him, and you’re bound to have an unforgettable time.

Very good Ocean Safari. Cheaper than most other providers. The captain Julian is great, speaks good English and is an outstanding animal spotter. Burritos are delicious and snorkeling equipment high quality. Our guide was able to tell us a lot about wildlife and was a proactive guide. We could see whales, a marlin, some jumping mobula and snorkel with bottlenose dolphins and a sea lion. Weights for freediving are also provided. Pictures and videos were sent to us at Julian's request! Just great.

Our guide Afelandra took us to observe whales in their natural environment, we had an excellent captain with a great ability to locate whales, sea lions, rays. Great experience to see marine life in freedom. Likewise our tour allowed us to watch the sunset just on the horizon and enjoy the return to the marina.

He's the best. Julian is a crack, he can see the whales meters away! Our guide was Borja and both are an amazing team. Every year we come and come back!!
