One of the Best Family Excursions We’ve Ever TakenTraveler17588396601
My wife, our two daughters ages six and four, and I absolutely loved this excursion. We have cruised several times and visited a variety of ports, and this was genuinely one of the best—possibly the very best—excursions we have experienced as a family.
The day began very early. We woke around 5:00 a.m. to reach our Carnival meeting location by 6:30. The tender brought us into Cabo around 7:00, and we boarded an air-conditioned bus shortly afterward. There is no restroom on the bus, but before leaving, the driver gave everyone an opportunity to use the facilities at a nearby resort. The drive was approximately one hour. There was no narration, but most of the route is open desert, so we did not feel as though we were missing much.
The beach club is in a remote desert location. From the bus parking area, there is approximately a five-minute walk along a sandy path partially covered with wooden planks. Once we arrived, clean restrooms and changing facilities were available, and chairs and towels were provided.
Our servers, Froylan and Miguel, and lifeguard Jonathan were wonderful. They were attentive, friendly, and comfortable communicating in both English and Spanish. Drinks were offered almost immediately, followed shortly by food. One of the first questions the staff asked was whether anyone had food allergies. My wife cannot eat gluten, and they immediately explained which foods were suitable for her, including corn tortillas and quesadillas made with corn tortillas. The quesadillas were honestly some of the best I have ever eaten.
The buffet included a generous selection of meat and vegetarian choices, including chicken mole, quesadillas, corn tortillas, salads, and other dishes. There were also alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks, including smoothies. The chicken mole was exceptional. I live in Phoenix, Arizona, where we have access to plenty of excellent Mexican food, and this was still among the best mole I have had.
The centerpiece of the club is a beautiful infinity pool overlooking the desert, with the ocean visible in the distance. The pool is particularly well designed for families with young children. Along one side is a shallow, recessed section approximately one foot deep, with lounge chairs and small tables positioned directly in the water. Parents can sit, relax, eat, or enjoy a drink while remaining within arm’s reach of children playing nearby. Our daughters spent several hours swimming and had a fantastic time.
There were also games and activities around the pool area, including cornhole, small soccer games, and fire-pit seating areas. Approximately an hour before departure, the staff held a tequila tasting featuring several local tequilas. I did not participate, but others in our group enjoyed it and at least one person purchased a bottle for around $55.
Several families also participated in a complimentary salsa-making activity. The instructor provided roasted peppers, tomatoes, and tomatillos, then helped guests use molcajetes to prepare their own salsa. It was a fun and authentic addition to the day.
The facility appears capable of accommodating around 100 people, based on the number of chairs available. However, only about 15 guests attended during our visit. Whether that was because of the early departure time or simply the date we visited, the atmosphere was calm, peaceful, and never crowded.
We were at the club for approximately three hours before returning to Cabo on the same air-conditioned bus. The ride back was quiet and comfortable, with many guests sleeping after the heat, swimming, food, and perhaps a few drinks.
My only meaningful criticism is directed more toward Carnival’s excursion listing than Cabo Adventures itself. Carnival’s information specifically told us to bring towels, but towels were already provided. Some of the promotional images in the Carnival app also looked artificial and did not accurately communicate what the experience was really like. Cabo Adventures would benefit from providing Carnival with a current collection of authentic photographs and perhaps a short walkthrough video showing the pool, dining area, activities, and family-friendly layout. The actual experience was far more appealing than the listing made it appear.
Overall, I strongly recommend this excursion, particularly for families with young children. The staff, food, pool design, cleanliness, and peaceful atmosphere were all outstanding. Froylan, Miguel, and Jonathan helped make it an unforgettable day for our family, and we would happily return.
