Route

London, Oxford, Edinburgh

For over a quarter of a century, the world of Harry Potter has captured the imagination of generations of readers and filmgoers — and the extraordinary truth is that much of that world is entirely, gloriously real. The cobbled streets, ancient castles, atmospheric railway stations, and magnificent cathedral cloisters that brought J.K. Rowling's vision to life are scattered across the length and breadth of the United Kingdom, waiting to be discovered. This ten-day journey traces the most iconic Harry Potter locations from London to the Scottish Highlands — combining the world-class Warner Bros. Studio Tour with Oxford's ancient university buildings, the dramatic landscapes of the Lake District, and the breathtaking railway journey through the Scottish Highlands on the iconic Jacobite steam train.

Itinerary

Day
1

Day 1: Arrival in London | The Wizarding World Begins

Arrive in London and check into your carefully selected hotel before heading straight to the city's most famous Harry Potter landmark — King's Cross Station and the legendary Platform 9¾, where a permanently installed trolley disappearing into the wall and an adjacent Harry Potter shop make for an irresistible and thoroughly magical first stop. The surrounding Islington and Bloomsbury neighborhoods reward an evening walk — the area around Grimmauld Place and the atmospheric Georgian streets that inspired much of J.K. Rowling's London provide a fittingly atmospheric introduction to ten days of wizarding world exploration. Dinner at a classic London gastropub sets the tone perfectly.

Day
2

Day 2: London | Warner Bros. Studio Tour — The Making of Harry Potter

The undisputed highlight of any Harry Potter pilgrimage — the extraordinary Warner Bros. Studio Tour London at Leavesden in Hertfordshire, a short train journey from the city. Spend a full day exploring the actual sets, costumes, props, and special effects that brought the eight films to life — walking the corridors of Hogwarts, stepping into Dumbledore's office, visiting the Forbidden Forest, and raising a glass of Butterbeer in the Great Hall. The recently expanded tour includes Platform 9¾, Diagon Alley, and the extraordinary scale model of Hogwarts Castle that reveals the full, breathtaking vision of the filmmakers. An unmissable, deeply immersive, and genuinely magical full day for fans of every age.

Day
3

Day 3: London | Diagon Alley, Gringotts & City Locations

A full day exploring London's most evocative Harry Potter filming locations on foot and by underground. Leadenhall Market in the City of London served as the entrance to the Leaky Cauldron and Diagon Alley — its magnificent Victorian iron and glass canopy as atmospheric today as it was on screen. Nearby, the extraordinary Australia House on the Strand served as the interior of Gringotts Bank — its opulent Edwardian banking hall instantly recognizable to any fan. The afternoon continues to Borough Market and the atmospheric Southwark area, before the evening delivers a performance at one of London's West End theatres — ideally Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Palace Theatre for the ultimate wizarding world evening.

Day
4

Day 4: Oxford | Hogwarts' Ancient Cloisters & Halls

A morning train to Oxford delivers one of the most rewarding days of the entire journey — the city's ancient university buildings providing some of the most recognizable and atmospheric Hogwarts locations in the entire film series. Christ Church College provided the model for the Great Hall and its magnificent staircase served as the entrance to Hogwarts in the earliest films. The extraordinary Bodleian Library — specifically the Duke Humfrey's Library — served as the Hogwarts library, while the beautiful Divinity School doubled as the hospital wing. The New College cloisters provided the atmospheric backdrop for several key scenes. A full afternoon exploring Oxford's ancient courtyards, cobbled lanes, and outstanding independent bookshops completes a deeply satisfying day of cinematic and academic pilgrimage.

Day
5

Day 5: Lacock & Gloucester | Corridors, Cloisters & Village Magic

Today combines two of the most atmospheric and film-authentic Harry Potter locations outside of London. The remarkably preserved medieval village of Lacock in Wiltshire — owned almost entirely by the National Trust — provided exterior shots used throughout the films, its ancient stone streets and thatched cottages utterly unchanged from their on-screen appearance. The afternoon continues to Gloucester Cathedral, whose magnificent fan-vaulted cloisters served as the corridors of Hogwarts in the first two films — some of the most directly recognizable locations in the entire series. Walking these extraordinary medieval passages, where the first owl post scenes and the writing on the wall were filmed, is a genuinely spine-tingling experience for any Harry Potter devotee.

Day
6

Day 6: Lake District | Hogwarts' Lakeside & Natural Magic

A scenic drive north through the extraordinary landscape of the Lake District — one of England's most breathtaking national parks and the inspiration for much of the wild, dramatic scenery surrounding Hogwarts. The Lake District landscapes provided aerial footage and atmospheric backdrop shots throughout the series, and the dramatic combination of ancient fells, mirror-still lakes, and brooding skies creates an unmistakable sense of Hogwarts country. Spend the afternoon exploring the shores of Derwentwater or Ullswater — two of the most cinematic and beautiful lakes in the national park — before checking into a characterful Lake District hotel for two nights of complete Cumbrian immersion.

Day
7

Day 7: Lake District | Goathland & The Hogwarts Express

Today's centerpiece is one of the great Harry Potter experiences outside the studio tour — a visit to Goathland Station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which served as Hogsmeade Station in the films. The station's Victorian architecture, steam trains, and atmospheric moorland setting are entirely and unmistakably on-screen, and a ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam service through the dramatic moorland landscape provides a genuinely magical taste of the Hogwarts Express experience. The surrounding North Yorkshire Moors — wild, vast, and deeply atmospheric — add another layer of wizarding world landscape immersion before the return to the Lake District for a final northern England evening.

Day
8

Day 8: Drive to Edinburgh | The City That Created Harry Potter

A scenic drive north across the border into Scotland delivers you to Edinburgh — the city where J.K. Rowling wrote much of the original Harry Potter series and the place that arguably inspired the wizarding world more than any other. Check into your Edinburgh hotel before an atmospheric evening walk through the Old Town — the medieval Royal Mile, the towering Edinburgh Castle, and the extraordinary skyline of tenements and spires that fed directly into Rowling's imagination. The Elephant House café on George IV Bridge — where Rowling famously wrote early chapters overlooking the city's dramatic rooftops — is an unmissable pilgrimage stop, though booking ahead is strongly recommended.

Day
9

Day 9: Edinburgh & The Jacobite Steam Train

An extraordinary final full day combines Edinburgh's finest Harry Potter locations with one of the most iconic railway journeys in the world. Begin with Greyfriars Kirkyard — the ancient cemetery where the name Tom Riddle appears on a gravestone, and where many other names recognizable from the Harry Potter series can be found among the headstones — before the afternoon delivers the journey's most unforgettable experience. Board the legendary Jacobite Steam Train for its spectacular journey from Fort William across the Glenfinnan Viaduct — the iconic curved railway bridge that appeared in every Harry Potter film as the route of the Hogwarts Express — as it arcs above the Scottish Highlands in a moment of pure cinematic magic that no studio recreation can replicate.

Day
10

Day 10: Edinburgh & Departure | A Magical Farewell

A final Edinburgh morning at your own unhurried pace — perhaps a last walk along the Royal Mile, a visit to the Writers' Museum celebrating Scotland's greatest literary figures, or a browse through Diagon Alley Edinburgh — the city's extraordinary independent bookshops and wizarding world gift shops concentrated in the atmospheric Victoria Street, the winding, colorful medieval lane widely credited as the primary inspiration for Diagon Alley itself. A last coffee overlooking the Edinburgh rooftops that started it all, before transferring to Edinburgh Airport for your departure — carrying the memories of ten extraordinary days through the real, vivid, and thoroughly magical world of Harry Potter.
