The Tate Modern London - Exclusive Guided Museum Tour

Jake from Babylon Tours was engaging & interactive and made modern and abstract art accessible and understandable. The pace was is relaxed allowing enough time to dwell on specific canvases or sculptures without feeling hurried through the massive industrial building. Jake was able to connect disparate eras, social histories, and artist influences to help us understand the collections.

We enjoyed a wonderful tour of Tate hosted by Becky. Our guide was very knowledgeable and engaging even with 2 children along. Her selection of art to review was a highlight because there’s so much to see. Highly recommend her tour.

Caroline was wonderful for our tour of the Tate Modern with our 12yo and 14yo. She did a great job of giving an interesting history and meaning of many of the great works we saw as well as engaging the kids. She made our visit to the museum much more meaningful and memorable. Highly recommend!

Magnificent art in a minimalist setting that is welcoming and very enjoyable. Easy to take the escalators to different levels and walk through space after space filled with world class modern art. Free but they ask for donations. Thank you.

The Tate modern tour was spectacular! In particular Matilda was such an awesome tour guide. She had so much knowledge of the art and artists and communicated different types of interpretation of many of the pieces. I was really impressed with her knowledge and it made the tour so interesting!

Matilda was the Tour Guide assigned to take us around The Tate Modern. She was absolutely AMAZING!! We would not have been able to capture 1/8th of the contextual knowledge that Matilda was able to provide us with. The depth of her knowledge coupled with her enthusiasm made all of the difference and the two and a half hours simply flew by. Our guide was very knowledgeable and details in her explanation during the whole 2 hours of our journey thru modern art from post impressionism in Tate modern

My husband tags along to modern art museums because I like to go. He doesn't necessarily like it. THIS TIME WAS DIFFERENT! Becky's knowledge & style of interacting with us about the paintings made all the difference. I loved it & my husband enjoyed it! Giving us insight into the artist & the phases the artists were going through was incredibly interesting or even the possible intent. We talked about our tour for hours afterwards & still have conversations about what a great experience.

My husband and I took the guided tour with Ellie today. It was absolutely amazing: she is very knowledgeable and passionate about art history. We’ve been to a lot of museums but Ellie totally changed our perspective today. We finished the tour today more educated, knowledgeable and got a different perspective about contemporary, pop art. My daughter (an art history minor in NYC) and I cannot imagine having gone through the Tate Modern without Becky.She was so knowledgable and thoughtful in how she curated her tour of the Tate in a manner to engage us with the art she had carefully selected and constantly assessing how much more we would be able to take in without underestimating our interest in what she had to share with us. She let us think what we wanted to think and shared her thoughts. She dialogued with us meaningfully leaving us with a most full and satisfying experience at the Tate. I only wish we had done this tour with her prior to our self guided tour of the British Museum. We are grateful to have matched with her and been given the best experience we could ask for at the Tate.

Matilda is extremely knowledgeable and brought the art to life providing us historical perspectives we would not have had on our own. She was terrific.

Matilda was very knowledgeable and super nice! A small group of 6 people, we went through exhibits of a very varied selection of paintings, sculptures, photography, installations and mixed media. The museum is big and it’s absolutely a great idea to get your own guide, even if you are an Arts Major like myself. There is just so much to see and so little time. Someone like Matilda, makes the visit more concise and time efficient. The tour lasted more than 2.5 hours. Great value!!

The tour of the Tate Modern was fantastic. Becky was our tour guide and she was so knowledgeable and very helpful in knowing where to stray from her route so that we all got to see pieces that hit our likes, including our art loving teens. The museum is free but as huge as it is, having the tour guide (especially Becky) really helped navigate and see many exhibits. She gave a ton of background information on different installations as well as answered so many questions! I’ll definitely check out another Babylon tour when we come back to London.

Museum has an amazing collection of modern Art organized helpfully. Our tour guide Ellie was a University trained art historian who was exceptional in every way. She not only enhanced our appreciation and understanding of the art, but put engaged with us in a personal and inspiring manner. Would heartily recommend her without hesitation. By the end of the tour we felt she had become a kind acquaintance.

Wonderful Tour! We did not know much about modern art. Our guide, Becky, took us through the galleries while explaining the evolution of the modern art period. She would then show us works that exemplified what we were learning about. In addition, she asked our opinions so that it was not a mere lecture experience. We all came away with both knowledge and appreciation, As a side note, Becky is full of enthusiasm, clearly knows the material and was a lot of fun!

What a wonderful tour! The Tate is huge, and Becky, our guide, made it doable. She took us through each gallery while providing the background of each period of modern art. She would then show us something that brought her explanations to life. We went with 2 young adult children and 2 parents and we all learned a lot without being overwhelmed. Highly recommend!
