Itinerary
The tour ends at Somerset House, to see the site that was used as Pentonville Prison in the 2009 film. While the grand Neo-Classical façade of the building couldn’t be more different to the real-life prison, your guide will bring scenes from the film to life with tales of the baddie who was held there – Lord Blackwood. When your Sherlock Holmes tour of London is over, finish your tour here overlooking the River Thames - the artery that runs through the city of Sherlock Holmes.
Meet your guide at Piccadilly Circus in central London, and then set off on your walking tour, hearing about Sherlock Holmes – the fictional sleuth from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s late 19th-century stories. The escapades of the deerstalker-clad detective were so popular that film adaptations followed the books, and filming sites are now scattered around the capital. See the place where the eccentric Sherlock Holmes first met Dr Watson – his loyal friend and adviser – and hear trivia about the 1979 thriller
Murder by Decree, which featured the pair. Visit the Royal Academy building, which was used in the film, and stroll around some of the pubs and grand hotels that were mentioned in the books. Your guide will entertain you with insider gossip about different iterations of Sherlock Holmes productions including Guy Ritchie’s 2009 film Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey Junior, followed by a walk to the Diogenes Club as seen in BBC Sherlock – a fictional gentleman’s club where a strict no-talking rule was imposed. After stopping for photos outside, you'll see numerous locations linked with the famous detective.

Good explaining and really worth it
Very enjoyable and interesting walking tour (even in the rain). Guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, highlighting lots of interesting sights that you would probably never even notice. Lots of Sherlock Holmes related sights, but also lots of other interesting stuff along the way. Only downside was meeting point wasn’t exactly clear, but found the guide in the end.
totally worth the money, very informative and the guide was quite funny
Ian our guide was very knowledgeable on both Sherlock facts and also London history. The whole tour very interesting and we learnt a lot. Would recommend.
I was on a cultural trip to London and came across this walking tour while booking my trip. I have to say, it was fantastic! Fiona was an energetic and wonderful guide who made sure to engage with everyone in the group. I would definitely recommend it!
We learned so much about not only the Sherlock Holmes stories but the author, and the actors that played Sherlock.
Had a great time on this tour with my family. Michael was so engaging and catered to the die hard and those new to Sherlock Holmes. Lots of homework to do 😃
A really good tour, guide very knowledgeable. Learnt a lot about Sherlock Holmes. Great locations visited also.
Ian was brilliant! He threw in all kinds of interesting architectural, historical and literary information too. He was very personable and we enjoyed ourselves very much. The tour was 2 hours and we did approx 10,000 steps.
Ian was a great guide and made the your very interesting and engaging!
Fiona was our Tour Guide and she did an amazing job. She was funny, informative and lovely. We absolutely recommend her tour.🌟
Jonathan was an excellent guide, he did the best to make the tour interesting, maybe an idea for the future is to make it 30 min. longer in order for the group to keep pace :)
Very good, very entertaining, I would have liked to know more about the books, as the tour was very film focused
We had Jonathan as a guide, and he was absolutely amazing! Very engaging with his stories, and brought us around the city safely. I would recommend this tour for any Sherlock Holmes fan, no matter which format you know Sherlock Holmes from ~
Fab tour. Lots of interesting facts from Chris, really enjoyed seeing different parts of London related to Sherlock Holmes. Highly recommend.
Very interesting tour with a very good guide.
Ian was fantastic, his knowledge was incredible and threw in extra facts about the histories of London. Great walking tour.
For fans of Sherlock Holmes this tour has all the details. One learns about recent series and movies all the way back to the first movies. You learn about the author's life and it influenced the Sherlock Holmes stories. You visit places depicted in movies and books.
Our tour guide Fiona was over the top. She explained the actors who played certain roles and showed us the locations and talked more about what happened in each location. She exuberant and was a joy to learn from her about Sherlock and also showed pictures of the each scene so we could imagine it happening. Excellent tour!!!
We went on the Sherlock Holmes movie tour with our guide Owen. We weren't sure what to expect as we really enjoyed the films and tv series but are not super fans, however we really enjoyed the tour. Owen was very easy to hear and understand, the pace was good and there was so much fascinating information about London and SherlockArthur Conan Doyle it was brilliant. The locations were not too far from each other either, which was good as it was very hot.
Owen was fantastic. The tour has been a great pleasure, especially with the tour guide Owen. It has been incredibly interesting learning about a great variety of Sherlock Holmes adaptions and subsequently about the not only the History of London as a filming hotspot but also of the gentleman's club culture parallel to the adaptations. The insights of where Arthur Conan Doyle has got his inspiration of were very inspiring and helped obtain a far deeper understanding of the adaptions aswell as novels that help get the feeling of the whole story across on a deeper level. The Tour guide (Owen) has been great aswell, making it exciting and sparkling it with humour aswell as wit turning it into an Overall even better experience. He was motivated aswell as motivating at all time making it more vivid. With his knowledge that by far exceeded our expectations he really made the tour even more special than it already is. We definitely recommend this tour to anyone interested in the story behind Sherlock Holmes aswell as his connection to the city no matter what age you are.
Had a lovely time with our guide Owen. He gave loads of great information , and brought humor and warmth to the entire tour. Highly recommend!
The tour was very detailed with lots of input of an enthusiastic Sherlock Holmes fan for every age. Owen managed to entertain with knowledge, helpful replies and a big amount of humor which is why I can recommend this tour to any huge (or moderate) fan of Sherlock. Enjoy the tour!
Brilliant fun tour Owen was a fabulous guide learned so many things about London as well as Sherlock Holmes. A must do
Owen is the benchmark for which all other guides should be judged! Knowledgeable and incredibly charismatic and funny!
Owen was our tour guid. That was a lovely and very informative tour that we had. Thank you
Lots of fun so informative and great tips about the city, the author and everything in-between. Ian was fantastic!
An entertaining and informative tour. Many thanks to our guide Stéph. Information was thoughtfully presented, in an engaging and informal style with good humour. Lots of interesting locations visited and a good mix of Sherlock Holmes and Conan Doyle information presented. Would recommend.
It was such a great experience. Steph was very energetic, knowledgeable, and very entertaining guide who loves Sherlock Holmes. In stead of going to Baker Street museum, we chose to take this tour to understand the world of Sherlock Holmes more, and we think we made a good choice. I recommend this tour greatly to anyone who loves London’s greatest detective.
Stephanie (“Steph”) delivered a fantastic Sherlock Holmes walking tour and fully deserves five stars. Her enthusiasm, knowledge and delivery style kept the group engaged throughout, and she clearly knows the subject and the locations inside out. The tour includes a lot of really interesting content around the filming locations, the various actors who have portrayed Holmes over the years, and visits to places connected with the adaptations we all recognise from television and film. That side of the tour was genuinely enjoyable and very well presented. Personally, I would perhaps have enjoyed a little more focus on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle himself, the original stories, and some of the literary background and historical context behind Holmes. For me, factual detail around Doyle’s life and writing adds another layer to the experience, while leaving some of the interpretation and reflection open to the tourists themselves. That said, Steph was an excellent guide — warm, professional, engaging and clearly passionate about the subject. A very enjoyable way to spend a few hours in London, and I would absolutely recommend the tour.
Lovely ambiance, good food. I'd visited here before and chose it for a pre-theatre meal on this visit. It did not disappoint. Meal was excellent - the sticky toffee pudding was especially fine. iz will return.
An excellent, leisurely walking tour. Our guide was Ian, who was incredibly knowledgeable and fun. There was a nice mix of information, facts and trivia about everything from Conan Doyle and his Sherlock Holmes stories to the various film and TV adaptations, as well as the history of several key london landmarks, all of which play a part in the creation of the Holmes mythos. Highly recommend for anyone interested in Sherlock Holmes, Conan Doyle or general London history.
The tour was excellent, Ian was fantastic and very informative 👏 👍🏻
It was amazing, Ian is great, the best walk trough the streets of London, real London not just turistic scenario, and the linked literature of the brilliant Conan Doyle, and unforgettable experience.
Ian provided so much knowledge, delivered in an entertaining and humorous way with many additional cultural and historical facts thrown in there for good measure!
It was an amazing trip with Ian presenting many interesting facts! Would highly recommend!
As a big Sherlock fan I really enjoyed the tour. Ian was very nice and funny, he not only took us through different book/film locations but also explained the history of some landmarks. It would be awesome to include locations from different media since a lot of it focused on BBC and Robert Downey Jr. locations, but it was a great tour overall and definitely one of the highlights of my visit to London!
There were certainly things to like : Friendly guide. Overall organization of the tour worked well. Value for money was good, we walked around for about two hours and 15 minutes. London was sunny. 😉 I was somewhat disappointed, though, because the tour focused mainly on the movie and series adaptations of the Sherlock Holmes stories and novels. We saw a number of locations where specific scenes were shot, but I would’ve been much more interested in learning about the historian backgrounds of the time, alleged locations of the actual stories and novels, etc. Finally, some of the core info was wrong: the guide told us that Arthur Conan Doyle let his protagonist initially die at the Reichenbach Falls to turn himself to other literary projects (correct) - but that after he continued writing Holmes stories later on, he used the “trick” of locating them all before his death (incorrect). Also incorrectly, he claimed that all the stories were allegedly written by Dr. Watson (some are actually written by the master detective himself - allegedly, of course). Overall, certainly a good tour if you enjoy the BBC series or the Robert Downey Jr. movies. But not really for me.
Enjoyable and an eye opener to Londons history and Ian was very engaging and fun and the connection to London and Sherlock Holmes was very fascinating....well done!
The guide Steph was one of the best we have ever had on the tours we have done over the years. Steph was very knowledgeable, witty, helpful and didn’t rush the tour
Very informative guided tour my friend and I throughly enjoyed the experience, Owen our guide was brilliant.
Fantastic tour with Jonathan. He was really knowledgeable about Sherlock, Conan Doyle and London history in general. Really interesting facts especially the links with Conan Doyle and the authors of the time. Would only make one change, a toilet stop!
Great tour and Ian was a great guide, the two hours went by very quickly with the Sherlock stories and other interesting stories
Lots of interesting information about Sherlock Holmes throughout the various media, TV, movies, and Stage.
Was a great experience, Spencer was interesting and knowledgeable. The whole experience was really well planned out.
An excellent tour for authentic Sherlock fans and ACD fans especially! The tour guide (Michael) was very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about all things Sherlock ! A lovely tour☺️
Jonathon, our guide was excellent. His knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject was evident and his delivery and interaction with the group was outstanding. I would thoroughly recommend the walk for both enthusiasts of Sherlock Holmes and new followers alike.
Period formative walking tour outstanding guide. Remember, Sherlock holmes and doctor watson are products of Conan Doyle's imagination.
Fiona was a gem! A geek like us, she entertained us and told us a lot about everything Sherlock (and also a lot of other geek topics, it was great talking with her about Harry Potter!). She had an extensive knowledge about Sherlock Holmes and London, I would do it all again, 100% guaranteed you will have a great time!
