From the moment we started we were treated to the incredible sights of the Christmas Lights from the first tree-lined square to the London Eye we saw it all! This tour was one of our favorite London highlights and we loved every minute! We were a family group of 12 and our drivers stayed in sync with each other even taking family group photos that showcased the lights. Oxford Street at Christmas is always a favourite. The lights stretch right across one of London’s best-known shopping streets and create a lovely atmosphere, especially once the evening gets going. If you want to stop for photos or get out for a closer look, just let your guide know. You’ll see some locations on the itinerary marked as “Pass By”, but that doesn’t mean we simply drive past everything. We stop often. Some guests are happy to enjoy the lights from the taxi, while others want to get out, take photos and spend a little more time in certain places. There is no fixed route that has to be followed. Your guide will shape the evening around the best Christmas lights, what is happening in London that night and, most importantly, the things you would most like to see and enjoy.
Regent Street is always one of the highlights at Christmas. Its sweeping curve and elegant buildings make a beautiful backdrop for the lights, and it’s one of those places that really does feel special once everything is lit up for the evening. If you’d like to stop for photos or get out for a closer look, just let your guide know.
Covent Garden always feels special at Christmas. The piazza is beautifully decorated, with its huge Christmas tree, festive displays and market stalls creating a really lively atmosphere. It’s a great place to get out for a wander, take some photos, have a look around the shops or simply enjoy a bit of Christmas in the middle of London.
If there is one place we would really recommend getting out of the taxi, it is the South Bank. The views from here are fantastic. You have the City across the river, Tower Bridge, the Tower of London lit up at night and so much of London all in one view. It really is one of those places that makes you stop and take it all in. It is also a great place to enjoy a little of London’s Christmas market atmosphere. Have a chat with your guide and let them know if the South Bank is somewhere you definitely want to stop. If you would like enough time for a proper mooch around the market rather than just a quick look and a few photos, we would recommend booking the 4-hour tour.
Christmas feels a little different in Chelsea and Kensington. It is less about huge displays and more about beautifully decorated streets, shops and hotels, with plenty of elegant little touches along the way. It is a lovely part of London to drive through in the evening and gives you a completely different feel from the big West End lights. If something catches your eye and you would like to stop for a photo or a closer look, just let your guide know.
Trafalgar Square is one of those places that really feels like Christmas in London. The famous Christmas tree, gifted to London by Norway each year, has stood here as a thank you for Britain’s support during the Second World War since 1947. With the square lit up around it and the Christmas market nearby, it is a lovely place to stop, have a look around and take a few photos if you would like to. There is no fixed route and no rigid set itinerary. London’s Christmas displays can change from year to year, and your guide will shape the tour around the best lights, the traffic and what is happening in the city that evening. Travel in your own modern black taxi, with room for up to six guests and a panoramic glass roof — perfect for looking up at the lights as you travel. Stop for photographs when you want to, enjoy the atmosphere on foot for a few minutes, or simply stay cosy in the taxi and let your guide take care of showing you London at its most magical.
Carnaby Street is always worth including at Christmas because it tends to do something a little different from the rest of London. The decorations are usually bold, colourful and full of character, which suits the area perfectly. It’s also a great place to get out for a few minutes, have a wander and enjoy the atmosphere away from the bigger West End displays. If you would like to stop here rather than simply drive through, just let your guide know.
Seven Dials is a lovely little corner of London at Christmas. Seven streets meet around the famous central monument, with independent shops, cafés and smaller streets leading off in every direction. The decorations tend to feel a bit more relaxed and neighbourhood-like than the big West End displays, so it’s a nice place to slow things down, have a wander and enjoy a different side of Christmas in London. If you would like to get out here for a few minutes, just let your guide know.
Bond Street and Mayfair feel very London at Christmas. The big-name shops and beautiful old buildings are dressed for the season, and there is usually something eye-catching around every corner. It is a lovely area to drive through slowly and, if something catches your eye, your guide can find a suitable place to stop for a closer look or a few photos.
Piccadilly is another lovely stretch of London at Christmas, with Fortnum & Mason, the Ritz, the historic arcades and St James’s all close together. Fortnum’s in particular is always worth a look for its Christmas windows and decorations. If you would like to stop here for a few minutes, just let your guide know.

This is hands down the best tour in London! The driver/guides know all of the best spots, are full of knowledge about the areas we visit, and are Instagram photographers extraordinaire!
I knew this experience was going to be great after I spoke to our driver Gavin on the phone. He took us to all the best places to see the lights and even went back to a good one when he realised they hadn’t put them on yet. Gavin was professional, knowledgeable, accommodating and a great guy who made the experience for the adults and children amazing. We would 100% recommend this experience and would love to go again next year!
I honestly can't say enough good things about my experience with London Taxi Tours. From the outset the customer service was warm, professional and quick. Our drive/tour guide Yiannis was the perfect host a) an excellent and calm driver b) very knowledgeable and interesting tour guide c) knew just went to point things out and when to just let us carry on chatting amongst ourselves d) just a really nice guy! The tour was perfect for members of our party that had some additional needs; we saw the very best of central London at Christmas (plus more that we couldn't have found by ourselves) but all from the warm bubble of our own taxi. We had the most wonderful afternoon/early evening viewing the lights around London thanks to the fab John - our driver and guide. So interesting and he took us to lots of great places that got us all in the festive spirit. Great experience for us all from 15yrs to a young 92! We had a wonderful tour of London’s beautiful Christmas lights with Alan last weekend! It was a rainy evening but we were comfortable and warm in the taxi with perfect views as the roof of the cab is a large window so you have a great view of the lights overhead. Alan’s commentary was great- lots of info on London at Christmas as well as the history of the area. I plan to take more tours with this company next time I’m in London!!
