We begin in Trafalgar Square, the historic heart of London. Not only is it easy to find, it also has a direct link to the origins of the Changing of the Guard ceremony. While you're here, we'll show you the spot that marks the very centre of London. You'll also discover why Lord Horatio Nelson is one of Britain's greatest heroes, what we did with all the cannons captured from the defeated French, and why it might be worth patting the paw of one of the famous lion statues.
This palace rivals Buckingham Palace and is a must-see in its own right. It’s also where the Guards come off duty, offering a fascinating behind-the-scenes perspective of the ceremony. One of London’s most historic sites, it’s steeped in centuries of history, scandal and intrigue. Not every tour includes it — but we most definitely do.
One of the highlights of the tour is marching alongside the King's Guards and their ceremonial band as they make their way down The Mall towards Buckingham Palace. Few experiences bring you closer to the spectacle. You'll hear the military music, watch the precision drill at close quarters, and enjoy views that most visitors never even realise are possible.
This immense Georgian barracks is where the Changing of the Guard both begins and ends, and we will be here to see the new Guard come on duty.
Your Changing of the Guard experience concludes outside Clarence House, the home of the King and Queen - which is just a couple of minutes away from Buckingham Palace. It will also be a final opportunity to see the Guards and the ceremonial band, and we are likely to see the Horse Guards as well. From here, it’s a short walk to Green Park or St James’s Park stations, or around 15 minutes on foot to Trafalgar Square or Parliament Square.

Robin was an interesting and informative guide We had a very good view of the changing of the guard and a great explanation of the ceremony. We also had a very nice walk around the surrounding historical area. I had a fun time and learned a lot with a guide who clearly loves history from ancient to modern times.

Our group of nine was the perfect size—small enough to see everything and comfortable enough to enjoy the experience without feeling like we were part of a royal parade ourselves! Robin is a history teacher by trade, and boy, does it show! His knowledge, storytelling, humor, and fascinating behind-the-scenes details brought London’s history to life. From the Changing of the Guard and the magnificent military bands to Churchill, Nelson, Waterloo, the Royal Family, and even a few stories you won’t hear from other guides, Robin delivered the goods. He’s entertaining, incredibly knowledgeable, and clearly loves what he does. We walked away with a much greater appreciation for London’s history and a camera full of memories. It was a very busy day today but Robin got us the best views. We saw the Guards three times. We marched with the down The Mall (rhymes with 'ball'). We saw them at St James's Palace and Wellington Barracks. We learnt loads of cool stuff. Robin is hilarious. We knew we had the best tour guide today. 100 out of 100 stars
Robin was exceptional getting our group into positions for viewing the guard changing and then heading totheir barracks. We literally could pat the horses or touch the soldiers if we wanted to as they came by. Not a chance we would have known about this without his knowledge. Extremely knowledgeable and presented the history in a professional and fun manner.

It rained so Changing of the Guard was cancelled. But here's the thing: it was still the best tour I have ever taken. Honestly! Sure, it would have been even better if we saw the Guards and the Ceremonial Bands, but it will still BRILLIANT! We saw so much, heard so many great stories, get such great nuggets of royal knowledge. But the best thing about the tour was the guide - Robin! Best guide I have ever had. And here's something else: because it rained, he said to every one in the group (there were about 15 of us) that he would refund us, I don't know if anyone took him up on his offer or not, but again it really speaks to his quality as a bloke. Best buide, best stories, very funny, lots of history, great all round.
Robin was a fantastic guide. His knowledge of history and the workings of the Changing of the Guard was really extraordinary. He was especially watchful for the older slower moving couples--of which we were one--and made sure we had a great viewing place! He was absolutely the best guide we had in London during our 5-day stay with many guided tours!

Robin, and his son, Judd were so enthusiastic and energetic! They gave us a wonderful tour through the many types of guards and all the pageantry that goes with the guard uniform, meaning of their work and the history of their formation! Highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants a backstory of the Changing of the Guarf. Well worth the time and money!

So great! My husband and I went on this tour with Robin in October. It was awesome. Not only was he knowledgeable but he was funny, kind, and answered any and all questions. He told fantastic stories and kept everyone’s attention. We had a few young children in the group, he was so good with them. The tour was amazing. We had the best experience with Robin! Not only was it very educational, he made it fun 🤩 Our group was the perfect size too. It was a wonderful tour by Robin. Stated at Trafalgar sq and a fast paced walk down the mall to Buckingham. Or as he said its title is "OMG its Buckingham Palace". Robin was full of wonderful history and fact telling stories. You get to see two of what guard troops are on duty. Bearskin grenediers and another. We went in Sept so crowds were not too bad. I can see where in peak tourist season there can be a whole lot more people to navigate through. This was a fabulous tour. As for Robin of Fantastic Walks. The best guide

Starting at Trafalgar Square and working our way down the Mall and up to Buckingham as great. POI along the way tied everything together and with some hidden gems that no tour group saw. Robin was very well educated and made the experience fun and a history lesson at the same time. Absolute recommend!
