An excellent location, comfy bed, very nice housekeeping staff and the praise stops. The room was exceptionally small, unable to walk around the bed. The wardrobe took up so much of the walkway that we had to turn sideways to avoid getting caught on the handle. The bedside lights were coming away from the wall. No air conditioning, a fan was provided so we could at least blow warm air around the room. The toilet hadn't been flushed from the last occupant, that was quite gross. The shower screen was approximately 20cm across and was completely ineffective, the bathroom floor was soaked after every shower. The reception staff were not interested in anything or anyone and there was always a guest at reception with an issue regarding their room. I would absolutely not recommend this hotel.

Location in the center of Kensington, close Kensington park, Paddington and Nothing Hill is really top. The area has lots of shops and is truly beautiful. The service and staff is very friendly and helpful. The building is beautiful both in as outside. The breakfast is good with great service as well. All in all highly recommend! Sorry we forgot to make photos
Yes, the rooms are small. But how much space do you need to sleep and get dressed? I loved the hotel from the minute I layed eyes on it. And the interior proved to match the exterior once I got inside. The tall ceiling, the grand paintings, the vintage decor.. everything so nice, outmatched only by the service of the staff. Arriving two hours early they stepped up to the task and got my room ready within 10 minutes. With a smile! The history of this place is a chapter of its own. Too long for a Google review, but look it up on Wikipedia. :-) This might be my most favorite stay in London yet, and I am quite likely to return should the opportunity present itself.
First the good parts. Some of the interior is absolutely beautiful. The building has some stunning original parts. Secondly, the staff try. They did store our lugfage fornus as check-in is at 3pm and we arrived at mid-day.Thirdly, the location for Hyde Park etc. Is perfect. And that's about it. The rooms are tiny. We had the smallest double bed possible, and you still had to crab-walk around it to get in. The mattress had no give in it whatsoever, and it felt like there was a sheet of mdf or some such underneath it. The shower had no curtain, only a 6 inch pane of glass. I'm on the larger side, and as soon as the water hits you it goes everywhere! The bathrooms are also small. The bar was never open. We arrived at a little after mid-day, and it was closed. On a Saturday. We arrived back at just before 11, and the bar was closed. On a Saturday. Seriously? It isn't inexpensive. It charges luxury rates, but the service is no different to Premier Inn. In fact, the Premier Inn in the centre of Edinburgh was less expensive, had a better room and much better service. So, would I stay at the Grand Royale again? Only if I was going to BST again and nowhere else was available.
Historic building with lots of character, and it's in a great spot. The staff was super kind and helpful. We stayed in a downstairs double room with a street level window and it had plenty of space, the AC was nice and cold which is impressive in an old Victorian. The shower is a small glass box but that was the case at every other old hotel we stayed at in the UK and as long as you're a regular width person it's fine. Breakfast was really good too.
