Mercure Bords De Loire Saumur

We stay at the Mercure hotel for 2 nights. First, the reception staff ( 2 young ladies) were very welcoming and friendly. We were upgraded to a privileged room ( king size bed) with balcony and view on the chateau Saumur. All very nice until... GROS BEMOL The second night of our stay at 10:30, the ceiling was covered with 150-200 gnats or moucherons ( in French). We use small room towel to kill most the insects. As we checked-out, we showed the two towels full od dead gnats. The guy at the reception asked if we opened the window? No we did not openned the window. Then he mentioned that they will have to investigate and he replied " welcome to loire valley" without feeling sorry about the situation or apologizing. We guessed that we had to expect these loire vallée insects in our privilege room. Overall we had a rather unpleasant hotel experience that was pretty much ignored by the receptionist.

The room are really comfortable and spacious. There is a private parking that is closed and secured for the guest. The service is super and we have a nice view on the city from the bar / first floor.

Yes, the location is great with a fabulous view of the castle across the Loire. But if you are looking for honest hospitality (and a pet owner), choose a different hotel and stroll across the bridge for the view. We booked our room and added to options, which both cost extra: Breakfast and pet access - the site says "pets welcome". When we entered the breakfast area (there is no actual restaurant at the hotel) we told to leave because dogs were not allowed. Apparently there were signs posted at the entrance. Since we had already paid for breakfast we were told we could eat in the lounge/reception area among the bustling check-out crowd. When I contacted the property they insisted and said the extra pet fee was for "damaged paint, urine on the carpet" etc.

May be it's one of the best located Hotels in the Loire region and more precisely in Saumur. Perfectly located on the river with great view over Saumur Castle and the village. The main problem is that it's overpriced and the restaurant doesn't serve food on sunsets, which is very weird since the hotel has one of the best views in town.
