We stayed at Chrismar Hotel Livingstone in May as part of a large multi-country meeting group of over 30 people. The hotel itself is visually beautiful, with lovely aesthetics, a nice pool area, and a peaceful ambience. We especially enjoyed the entertainment on the last day, particularly the African drums, dances, and live band performances. That was a wonderful touch and created a memorable atmosphere for our group. However, the biggest disappointment during our stay was the food. The meals served throughout our stay were unfortunately very basic. The default drink options over lunch were mainly the three carbonated soft drinks :- Fanta, Sprite, and Coke, with no option for fruit juices. Overall, the food was tasteless and lacked variety. Tea breaks were better but not exciting, often coming with pre-made juice, and only two snack options daily. A bit more variety and creativity would have made the experience far more enjoyable, especially for guests staying multiple days. Some of the salads offered were underwhelming, and dessert options were often limited to a single cake selection. Staples like rice, chicken, and potato salad were consistently bland and repetitive and did not reflect the richness and flavour that Zambian cuisine is actually known for. As locals, it was disappointing, especially because our international colleagues were left with the impression that this is how our food is normally prepared. I genuinely feel the hotel needs to seriously invest in improving its kitchen, menu planning, and food preparation. Food is such an important part of the hospitality experience. Chrismar Hotel has so much potential because of the ambience, and being close to other resorts and nature — even spotting elephants nearby — is a unique experience. However, to truly match the beauty of the property, management needs to look into the food and overall maintenance.
The place appeared run down. Rooms had so many mosquitoes and the ponds had stagnant water which was a breeding ground for the mosquitoes. Showers were not clean and beddings were never changed. Wifi didn't work.
Excellent staff, delicious food! The facilities, though, need quite a bit of work. Power back up - took time to kick in, internet access was spotty in the rooms, pool was dirty, and plumbing- tap water was dirty.
The atmosphere of the hotel is great. Like a heaven in the morning. But cannot say same for evening. Mosquitoes are everywhere in the room and the bednet is not useful at all. Food is not too delicious too.
