The grand, pristine lobby gives a brilliant first impression, but don't let it fool you. We paid £196.40 expecting a 4-star experience, only to be given Room 010 in the basement—despite being told it was a "ground floor room." The walk down to the basement is dark, dingy, and completely neglected, complete with stained carpets and shabby walls. Once inside, the bed itself was clean and comfortable, but that is genuinely where the praise ends. The state of the room was revolting: * Dirty walls & decor: Dark liquid stains running up the walls, flaky unfinished paint along the skirting boards, and stained curtains. * Hygiene issues: The headboard was covered in mystery watermarks and dark stains right next to where you rest your head. The toilet seat was yellowed, and the bathroom surfaces hadn't been wiped down properly. * Maintenance: Loose plug sockets hanging off the wall, dilapidated furniture throughout, and a wardrobe that uses a curtain instead of a proper door. I felt physically ill sleeping in the room given the state of the headboard and surroundings. Paying nearly £200 for a stay that feels more like a neglected budget hostel than a Marriott brand is completely unacceptable. Avoid until they actually invest in maintenance and basic housekeeping for these lower-floor rooms. Waste of money, will never stay at any Marriott brand again.

Very happy with the experience. Great location: central, cool, old building rehabbed into a modern hotel. Restaurants and staff were amazing. Great experience completely.AC in our third floor room didn't seem to be working. Mentioned to staff, they moved us into a basement room. No view, but ice cold. Since it was during a heat wave, we were very happy.
We have been here this weekend, 6th and 7th June 26. Hotel is in a great location for exploring. Building is fascinating. All staff we met were very nice. Bed is big and fairly comfy. Shower is amazing. Sliding door on toilet a little strange. Parking offsite about £18 per day. I would come back.
Shane was brilliant. Some technical issues at the hotel but the staff could not be more helpful. Shane went above and beyond and was really accommodating. This is the second time we have stayed and due to the helpful staff and brilliant atmosphere we will be back I really hope the area managers know how good the staff are
We stayed here for two nights and had such a lovely experience. The hotel is in a great central location and was very clean throughout - our room was spotless and spacious with a very comfortable bed. A special mention has to go to the hotel manager, Bradley. From the moment we arrived, he made us feel genuinely welcome and valued as guests. He was incredibly friendly, professional and accommodating throughout our stay, always happy to help with anything we needed and provided excellent recommendations and information about the area. Nothing was too much trouble for him, and his excellent customer service truly stood out - he seemed to be a natural with all guests. He created such a warm and positive atmosphere and is honestly a huge credit to the hotel. Thank you for providing such an amazing experience for me and my daughter — we will definitely be back!
