Tomar And Almourol Castle Private Tour From Lisbon

Nuno was an excellent tour guide for our trip to Tomar, the Knights Templar and Almoura Castle. He was so friendly and very knowledgeable about all the history. We stopped for photos at every chance and was a wonderful companion during the trip. We highly recommended this tour with him.

What an absolutely wonderful day. Even with weather I would describe as “mixed”, my family (grandparents, me and my wife, and two kids, 7 and 4) has an absolute blast. This is the type of day you plan a vacation for. The sites were extremely accessible, rich in history and absolutely breathtaking. There was PLENTY history and detail to keep my academic in laws interested and more than enough traditional medieval iconography and settings to keep my children believing they were knights of the round table all day long (and - as a bonus, they learned some really cool history too). Of course, what really makes these tours special is the guide. Nuno was fantastic - extremely knowledgeable and personable, and most importantly (to me) - he was wonderful with the kids, and they absolutely loved him. The tours were engaging and interesting, and really reinforced one another - don’t hold me to it, but I think I could give a fairly accurate summary timeline of the shifting conquests in 12th century Portugal! 5 stars all around.

We booked a second private tour with Van Go and had Susana this time too. She is really good with kids and told us the legend of the Portuguese rooster and the story of Fatima as we traveled to and from our destinations. Our 10-year old daughter was entertained the entire time. Susana is local and pointed out the various industries and agricultural crops along our drive. This really helped to better understand the culture. Susana answered many questions from our daughter and is very knowledgeable of the Templar sites. The short boat ride to the river entrance of the Castle of Almourol and the Castle and Convent of the Order of Christ were fable-like places and a must for anyone interested in medieval castles or Templar lore. She surprised us again with a short stop in a small village for a local dessert. My only regret….we should have booked our excursion to Berlengas with Van Go Tourism and Susana rather than using a Google recommended company.

A very unique tour of a lesser known area with a rich history starting with the Knights Templar. Tons of fascinating things to see and our guide, Simone was top notch. I would highly recommend this tour.

We had a wonderful excursion to Tomar sites with our private guide Simone. It was a great way to spend our first day in the Lisbon area. We always check Viator for places to visit in our free time.

We took a Van Go tour by private van with Miguel Alves on a Knights of Templar all day tour from Lisbon to Tomar, Constancia, and a few other places in that area of Portugal. Miguel’s English was superb and he knew so much about the history of the Knights Templar, their Temple, as well as the churches and castles in the area around Tomar. We learned so much from him and enjoyed going through the churches and castles and Templar Temple with him as he pointed out and explained things we would have missed. We had a great time. He recommended a great restaurant by the river in Tomar. My octopus was so tender and perfectly prepared. We also learned a lot about olives and wines in the region. This was a 5+ stars tour with an exceptional guide. It was exactly what we wanted to do and learn more about! I highly recommend Miguel and Van Go tours.

Excellent tour! Susanna was a wonderful tour. She was like having a good friend show us around Portugal. The sites that we saw were wonderful. There was plenty of time to see everything that we wanted to see and also have a very good lunch. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who is interested in Tomar and the Knights Templar. It is also just an excellent way to see other sites in Portugal outside of the larger cities.

Paulo was very knowledgeable and provided a great day. Lunch booking at a restaurant serving heavy historic food a little odd given lunch not included but we skipped and found a great little cafe.

This tour was a highlight of our trip to Lisbon. While the historic sites were incredible, our guide Susana was what made it special. She was very knowledgeable, gracious, quick to answer questions and accommodating of the needs of a diverse group (adults, teenagers and elderly parents with mobility challenges). She made sure that everyone in the group had a good time and got the most out of the experience. She offered ideas about places to explore in Lisbon and wonderful suggestions for restaurants. We had such a good time, we immediately booked a second tour with her. We are definitely going back and hope to book another tour with Susana.

My husband and I had scheduled the Tomar tour for the day. Susana picked us up at our apartment and we were off. Susana was lovely - so informative and nice. Best part was that she really customized the tour to what we wanted to do. I mentioned that I had heard there were caves up by Tomar and she arranged to take us on a tour which my husband LOVED. I also mentioned that we had wanted to visit Fatima so she worked that in too! We enjoyed the tour (and Susana) so much that my husband booked her again for the following week to take he and a friend to Porto. 100% recommend - and ask for Susana if you can - she even sent me pictures of both trips which was very appreciated!!!
