Susana was a fantastic guide. She knew exactly where to go to maximize our time in Sintra for the day. We were a family of four and had a fantastic time. Highly recommend!!

If you are visiting Sintra, you must book a tour with Susanna! She spent 8 hours guiding our family (including two teenagers) and kept every single one of us completely engaged the entire day. Susanna is incredibly professional, brilliant with history, and knows all the local shortcuts and hidden insider surprises to avoid the crowds. She even helped us pick the perfect lunch spot and carefully walked us through the menu to make sure our family would love it—and we absolutely did! Listening to her recommendations made our day seamless. We already decided that on our next trip to Lisbon, our first call will be to book another tour with Susanna.
Our tour with Susanna was one of the highlights of our trip to Portugal. As an official Portugal tour guide, her knowledge of the country’s history, culture, and traditions is truly exceptional. Every place we visited came to life through her stories and insights, making the experience far more meaningful than simply seeing the sights. What made the day even more special was Susanna herself. She was warm, thoughtful, and incredibly attentive throughout the tour. We had a few medical considerations, and she went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable, adjusting the pace when needed and checking in on us without ever making us feel like an inconvenience. She also knows all the best spots for stunning photos, so we came home with beautiful memories as well as a much deeper appreciation for Portugal. If you’re looking for more than just a sightseeing tour, and want a genuine cultural experience led by someone who is passionate, knowledgeable, and genuinely cares about her guests, I couldn’t recommend Susanna more highly. She turned a wonderful day into an unforgettable one.
We had an amazing time. Our Guide was very knowledgeable, friendly and took extra time to explain everything to us. We would recommend this trip and guide Susana to anyone who wants to see real history in Portugal. The palace is were amazing and beautiful.
Wonderful and highly Recommend! Suzanna was a wonderful tour guide- if you can request her you should! It was a private tour of Sintra- we saw Pena Palace, Moorish Castle and Regaleira - she picked us up near our Airbnb and because we were early she took us to grab some coffee and pastry before we started the day. My kids (15 & 17) were thankful and we appreciate the flexibility! She was so knowledgeable and knew all the secrets of every place and also took us to the famous place for the Sintra “pillow pastry”! She took amazing pics of the family along the way and honestly we feel we became good friends with her after a wonderful day in Sintra. She was kind to drop us in Cascais at the end of the day so we can explore it on our own! Highly recommend this tour group and Suzanna! She gave us recs for Lisbon as well as Porto- our next stop! Truly a first class experience and encourage you to utilize this tour group!
Our tour of Sintra with Van Go Tourism was unforgettable. Nuno noticed our reluctance to take photos and selfies so he would put out his hand and say, “Give me your phone”. He captured the most remarkable moment when we walked the wall of the Pena Palace as he made a video of us circling the wall then recording a panoramic view of the skyline. He was walking backwards while we gripped the wall moving forward! His photo-taking skills are spectacular! Nuno gave us the most memorable visit in photos and videos. Just when we thought he couldn’t give us more personalized attention, he went above and beyond once more. While visiting Quinta da Regaleira we were in queue with a group of boisterous young visitors. Knowing my husband had difficulty hearing with his new cochlear implant in that environment, Nuno politely asked the group to quiet down so my husband could hear everything Nuno was describing to us. Service and attention to detail doesn’t get better than that. Throughout the trip, he introduced us to the historic charm and rich history of the country, weaving everything we saw into a moment when we realized our visit to Portugal with Van Go Tourism was now at the top of our “favorites” list. We cannot say enough about how outstanding our experience was with Van Go Tourism. We HIGHLY recommend you visit Portugal not just for its beauty, charm and history but even more so to experience the superb quality of service offered by Van Go Tourism. Thank you Margarida and Nuno for being the very best in your business.
I had no idea what a great tour this would actually be! Bernardo did a terrific job, very friendly and knowledgeable. Pena palace, moor castle, and regaleira were all amazing!
We had an incredible tour in Sintra. From the moment we were picked up to the drop-off, the entire experience was seamless and truly enjoyable. Our guide Susana was absolutely amazing! She is genuine, warm, and incredibly knowledgeable. We learned so much in just one day. She is also a wonderful storyteller who managed to keep my two boys engaged and intrigued throughout the entire day! This is our first visit to Portugal, and we couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to this beautiful country and its warm hospitality than our day with Susana!
Maria and our driver Miguel made the day special. They tailored the tour to our needs as my husband walks a little slower. They were very accommodating. They also made a great suggestion for a pastry in the morning and the story behind the pastry, and Miguel suggested a place for a quick lunch. Center was like Disneyland for adults and Maria was very knowledgeable about the history about the town the castles everything. We definitely got our moneys worth.
We had amazing experience with Susana! She was extremely knowledgeable and warm and great with my family and kids. Everyone had a great time and Susana and the company went out of their way to accommodate our needs with the grandparents and young kids (we had 20 month old and 4 year old) and my mom has a weak knee. When we’re back in Lisbon we’ll definitely book again!
Our Sintra tour guide, Rui. was exceptional—patient, informative, and attentive. They made history come alive, answered all our questions, and went out of their way to capture wonderful group photos. The entire experience exceeded expectations and made our day truly memorable. Highly recommend!
Susana was fabulous! She was knowledgeable, funny and accommodating. She ensured we had the best experience possible.
Susana was our guide and she immediately bonded with us like family. She is great with children. We took our 10-year old daughter and Susana told us local legends, and stories of her upbringing in Portugal. She entertained our daughter the whole time. She is very knowledgeable of the history of Portugal, and the sites we visited. She made everything make sense and answered many questions we had. At Sintra’s Pena Palace, she got us there before the crowds arrived and was able to take numerous family photos before the swarm of tourists. We will forever treasure the photos she took of us. She surprised us with a Sintra Pillow dessert for an after lunch treat. Our daughter also really loved the grounds of Quinta da Regaleira and the towers and walls of the Moorish Castle. If we ever return to Portugal, we will definitely use this company again and ask for Susana!
Nuno is an experienced tour guide and we benefited from that for a great experience at Sintra. He is a source of both knowledge and humour. He was a wonderful person to spend the day with, like traveling with an old friend. Highly recommended
We traveled with Nuno to Sintra, Nazaré, Cabo da Roca, and then to Porto. An incredible guide - completely dedicated to his profession, very friendly, smiling, honest and always ready to tell more and more. The best restaurant we had lunch at in Portugal was chosen by him. The best views were shown to us again by Nuno. Our most sincere thanks. We recommend him without reservation.
The Sintra tour was a highlight of our trip. Miguel was a great guide and shared so much interesting information.
Our guide Miguel was phenomenal. His knowledge was extensive and provided us with so much information on the historical significance of what we were seeing. He truly enhanced the beauty of these amazing sites we visited. Everything was perfect! Thank you.
From the moment we were picked up in their new spacious vans at our cruise ship with MANY big bags (13 of us), we knew we were in the right hands! Suzanne and her colleague provided such a thorough tour…from Belém for pasteis de nada to Sintra, Cascais and back…including a delicious lunch in the quaint town of Sintra. What a delightful full day tour. So much knowledge of the sites and presented in an engaging manner. Never rushed for time, she managed to fit it all in with her wonderful charm and personality. Would definitely book with Van Go Tourism again!!
Suzanna was amazing. She was so knowledgeable and very accommodating! She knew the best places for photos and the best ways to avoid crowds.
The tour and guide, Luis, were amazing. There were just 2 of us. I was an all day trip and tour. Luis was so kind and attentive. Full of information and knew so much avout the area. The tour was more than worth it. Never felt rushed, had great lunch where he recommended which was not crowded, excellent food and time to enjoy ourselves. Would highly recommend this tour and hope you can get Luis. One of the highlights of our trip. Thank you.
The bottom line upfront: do an all-day private tour to Sintra. If you can, do so with Miguel. You won't regret it. The tour started with an early 8am hotel pickup but that's well worth it since you have a chance to beat the immense crowds at Pena Palace. Besides, Miguel has it down to a science to (circum)navigate lines and crowds effectively. Before going to Portugal we read multiple reviews that said that if we visited Sintra, we should skip the palace as it was “boring.” That was the complete opposite of the experience we had with Miguel. We could not have found it more interesting. We toured with our two teenage sons and all of us were totally fascinated by what Miguel shared with us throughout the day. Miguel is a huge history buff and is a veritably bottomless (initiation) well of information about the history of the buildings we visited (Pena, Moorish Castle, la Regaleira), the broader Sintra area, the artifacts we saw, and the subtle yet fascinating symbols of e.g. the Freemasons. It also helped that Miguel was easy and pleasant to be around and that his enthusiasm for all-things-Sintra were practically oozing out of his pores. We loved his genuine enthusiasm for Sintra and his desire to learn more to elevate his craft (for instance he’s been waiting excitedly for an area to reopen after reconstruction and restoration). We would happily go on any tour offered by Miguel/Van Go Tourism
This tour was worth every single penny. Simone was an amazing tour guide who gave us all the history on Sintra. She was efficient on what we needed to see and made sure we made the most of our tour. She made it fun and interesting, we really enjoyed our day there. Sintra is absolutely beautiful and everyone should see it. It was great to be with someone who knew where to go and what to see. I highly recommend this tour.
Susana was an amazing guide and was able to provide our family with great information throughout the day…thank you so much!
Susanna was our guide for our second tour with Van go Tours and was a perfect tour guide. She thinks of everything to make your tour as enjoyable as possible. Lots of walking and steps on this tour but Susanna knows how to break it up to keep us from tiring out. Saw Pena Palace, Moorish Castle and Quinta de Regaleira. This company is highly recommended. We had two rours with two different guides and they are extremely professional. Highly recommended.
Joao was wonderful as our tour Guide! He knowledge of the entire Sintra area made for the best experience my family had in Portugal!! I would highly recommend this trip and ask for Joao!!
We had a wonderful day visiting Pena Palace, Sintra and the surrounding area. Simone was our tour guide and she was amazing. We had a such a fine time with her. She is very knowledgable and was very interactive with the whole group. By the end of the tour, it was like we were hanging out with a family member. She did such a great job. A little more about the tour, the areas visited were all amazing. A lot to see and a lot of history of Portugal to be learned. I would highly recommend this tour and if your lucky getting Simone as your guide.
We went on a tour of Sintra with Susanna and I couldn’t recommend it more. If you are going to Sintra (or anywhere in Portugal), go with Susanna. She is so sweet and kind, made sure we had a comfortable trip and was so passionate/knowledgable about the area. Couldn’t recommend it enough.
Perfect day in Sintra! Highly suggest requesting Susanna, she was an incredible guide. So knowledgeable, fun, and friendly. Gently enjoyed spending the day with her and learned and saw so much! The transportation was extremely comfortable, she always ensured we had water, and we moved at the perfect pace. She also gave us amazing resturant recommendations.
A perfect day trip from Lisbon to the beautiful town of Sintra. We enjoyed a private tour of this regional gem by our guide, Simone Silva. She was absolutely amazing. Simone was extremely knowledgeable of the history and culture of Lisbon and Porto. Her passion for what she does shined at every turn, and she was a pure pleasure to spend the day with! Simone took us by private van from our hotel in Lisbon just 25 minutes away to the beautiful and lush town of Sintra. We toured the Moorish Castle where she gave us some background and history and where we captured the most amazing views! From there we went to Pena Palace where she again provided thorough background of Pena Palace and the significance of the grounds. Simone was extremely adept at timing our entrance into the palace so we did not have to wait in the long lines! The palace is certainly a place to visit. After our tour Simone dropped us off in town for lunch where she recommended a great place to sit and enjoy some local cusine. We had time to tour the town's cute shops and picturesque streets. After lunch, she took us to Regialia, a magical place with lush gardens, and the mystical man-made staircase and caves. A must visit while in Sintra. A day trip to Sintra is a must do while in Lisbon. Be prepared to do a lot of up hill walking, good exercise and well worth it. We highly recommend this tour and especially our guide Simone!
Our guide was absolutely perfect. So much information but found and kept a perfect pace. Excellent car too which made the experience very comfortable.
Bernardo was terrific. We really enjoyed our private tour in Sintra. Expect to walk approximately 6 miles over the course of the day, much of it uphill. It is totally worth it to see amazing sights.
Jorge was a fantastic guide. He was very knowledgeable and professional and was able to cater the trip to our abilities. Sintra was a bucket list item and he made it even better. Would recommend this trip to anyone wanting to see Pena palace and Sintra.
This private tour with Nuno was amazing. He is so knowledgeable and while we covered a lot during our tour, it was relaxing and never felt rushed.
We had a great tour of Sintra with our tour guide Susana! Unfortunately it was cloudy and raining on the day of the tour, but we were able to still make the best of it. We visited the Pena Palace, Moorish Castle, and the Quinta da Regaleira. Susana was very knowledgeable about all of the sites and was very friendly and outgoing. We would definitely recommend doing a tour for Sintra to help maximize your time there.
Our tour to Sintra & Cascais was amazing! Joao, our guide, was very knowledgeable about the history of the monuments, the area, and even the weather. We absolutely recommend this tour!
Susana was very knowledgeable and excited to share the history of Sintra and Portugal. She is personable and energetic and a true joy to spend time with. She had special tips and tricks as well as general information including restaurant and bakery recommendations. Prompt. Clean, comfortable vehicle, good value. I highly recommend her.
Bernardo was an excellent guide. The trip is well with the time and money, just be prepared to walk a few hills and steps
This fantastic tour was complete with all you need to experience Sintra and the Pena Palace. Our tour guide Toão was so helpful on our last day in Portugal. He even dropped us off at our cruise ship. We really felt like we go to know him and he us.
We had a great time on our private Sintra tour. Our guide Susana was simply terrific. She was enthusiastic and energetic as she tirelessly took us around to multiple attractions all day. She is highly knowledgeable and gave us an excellent history lesson on Portugal generally as well as on Pena Palace and Moorish Castle as we toured these monuments. She was punctual and patient and flexible and helpful throughout. She managed to take us around the crowds and pointed us to the right places to have an efficient lunch or break. The tour was tiring as it requires a lot of walking on hilly terrain but it was very much worth it. We highly recommend it.
Highly recommend this tour! Our guide, Susana, was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic. She took us on a wonderful all day tour to Sintra where we saw and learned so much! Susana is filled with enthusiasm and we had a great time with her. We could not have seen and appreciated as much if we didn’t have her guidance. Loved every minute!
We got to see in one day three completely different sites, each one unique and beautiful. We had a wonderful guide, Bernardo was very knowledgeable and helpful. He went with us to each one of the attractions and shared a lot of information about history of the places. Since the line to get into the well at Regaliar was long, he waited in line while we got to explore the grounds.
Susana is an excellent guide. We enjoyed all of the information and stories. The palace was very interesting but the Regalia was the best!
Susana was a great guide who explained to us the history of Portugal so that we could have a greater appreciation of the culture and history of the landmarks that we visited such as the inverted well and Penã Palace, among many others. Furthermore, there is a clear explanation of how Catholicism affected the history of Portugal without it sounding like preaching.
This tour to Sintra was one of the highlights of our trip. Joao was an amazing guide who really made our time in Sintra special. He was informative and entertaining and expertly guided us through Pena Palace, Quinta da Regaleria and Castelo dos Mouros. He was able to optomise our time, so that we were not waiting in queues and we left Sintra with more understanding of the history of Portugal. We highly recommend this trip to anyone. It was a perfect day!
The trip was fantastic. Our guide Joao was extremely knowledgeable and well organized. Everything ran like clockwork from pick up to drop off. We highly recommend.
Rui was a great guide and we loved the day we spent with him. We got to see much more than we ever would have on our own. Rui was able to share his knowledge of Portuguese history with us which really added a lot to our tour.
We encountered a strike situation but our guide, Samantha, did a great job using "work arounds". Sintra is a wonderful to visit.
Wow! What an amazing day we had in Sintra! And Susana, our tour guide, was fantastic! She was filled with passion and joy about sharing the history of Portugal with us and helped make it a magical day. Pena Palace was fairy tale beautiful and we loved learning all about the fascinating history. Susana helped us create the perfect itinerary for the day. We felt so fully taken care of. I cannot recommend her enough. After Peña Palace we visited the picturesque town of Sintra, tasted the local Sintra pastry, wandered the streets and shops, then we visited the Portugal coast, the westernmost point in Europe, as well as strolled in the beautiful seaside town of Cascais. It was a fantastic day, start to finish. If you ever visit Portugal we highly recommend doing any tour with Susana. It was the last day of our vacation and having a private tour made it a perfect last day. Thanks Susana!
Joao did a great tour of Sintra. He picked up up promptly on-time and drove a nice Mercedes van that was very comfortable. He was very knowledgeable on the history of Lisbon, Sintra and Portugal. He took us to very picturesque sites and made a great recommendation and reservation for lunch. He is very personable and would highly recommend him for your future Portugal travel tours.
Our Private Sintra Tour with Joao was the highlight of our trip to Lisbon! Communication with Van Go Tourism was excellent and Joao was the perfect guide. His knowledge of history and the area was amazing and he was able to lead us through the Pena Palace, Moorish Castle and Quinta da Regaleira explaining everything along the way. A day trip to Sintra is do-able on your own but booking a tour with Van Go is well worth the money spent. We got so much more out of our visit with Joao. Although many visitors complain of crowds, it was not a bother to us as Joao navigated the way regaling us with stories and history. If we were to be in the country a little longer, I would have booked another day trip with Van Go.
