We spent a wonderful day with our guide João touring Sintra and its surrounding area. It was an extensive, varied, delicious and always interesting tour. We love the little ways the company supporting the day and its myriad stops with the palace being the bulk of the day. At the beach they supplied a frisbee, volleyball, and blanket for our boys and we enjoyed the refreshments at the end of the day. João is very informed and speaks English excellently. He knows about the history, the architecture, facts about modern day and historical Portugal and Lisbon. He goes out of his way to keep things interesting for the entire audience. Our boys are 12, 9, and 7 and they loved the day as much as my wife and myself. My wife and I both agree this is the best day tour we’ve taken anywhere in terms of service and quality. We highly recommend them.

I am so glad I did this tour whilst in Lisbon, it was a highlught of my trip. The guide, Ricky was fantastic, he was friendly, fun and informative. We did loads of really great things, it was wonderful to get out of the city and see some of the surrounding area. We had great food and drinks, I particularly enjoyed the lunch at a local restaurant and the stop at the beach. It was well paced and not too long a day but we saw so much, We were a small group of four and the van was comfortable, if you're wondering about booking this, just do it! You won't regret it.

The guide David was knowledgeable, passionate about his work, and Sintra was a beautiful visit. The highlight was lunch cooked by a local young Portuguese couple who host small groups in their home - a great welcome and phenomenal food. I don’t think every group does this for lunch so confirm with the tour company ahead of time!

This tour is an absolute must and felt so authentic and real. Our tour guide, Pedro, was such an energy booster and provided the perfect mix of insightful information and lightheaded laughs throughout the day. The itinerary is perfect because you get to Sintra early and then during peak tourist times you go to all the different hidden gems that this tour offers. The food was spectacular too and Pedro had a few other treats up his sleeve. My brother and I have been traveling around Europe for 2 1/2 weeks and this was easily one of our favorite days of the whole trip, I really can't speak highly enough of both Pedro and the tour itself!!

I hesitated to take this tour because I heard Sintra is very crowded and chaotic. The rumors are true but this tour and our guide João had a way of helping us to experience it without being impacted by the crowds much. Every stop on the tour is magical and João quickly helped a group of strangers feel like friends. There were 8 of us plus our guide. I’m very happy I decided to go and experience the beautiful places and João’s passion for Portugal, Sintra, and people.

Pedro was an incredible guide and the trip was a an absolute must for an authentic Portuguese experience. 10/10 would do again. Best part of the trip for sure. Got to see a lot of Sintra and the surrounding area. Got to experience some authentic cuisine and feel welcome amongst the locals. I feel like I made friends beyond just the trip. Can’t put a price on this.

I will start this review by saying I would recommend this tour and Keep it Local tours to EVERYONE I know coming to Portugal. From start to finish João was energetic and kept the group engaged. We truly had a local experience but didn’t get to miss out on the tourist experience. We saw all the big sites (Quinta de Regaleira, Cabo da Roca, etc.) but the timing was perfect so there were hardly any other groups of tourists there at the time. The local experience was unmatched, from the restaurant for lunch to the routes we took, you really had a glimpse into local life in Sintra. We learned so much about the history from João that you do not get from other tours. He played local music and engaged with the whole group throughout the day, catering to everyone’s needs. The price is also unbeatable for the experience. Book with Keep it Local, you will not regret it!

I reviewed lots of tours before booking this one. It was my birthday and I wanted it to be memorable. Wow, what an amazing day. Combine 8 fun zone people from different corners of the world, 1 funny and crazy tour guide (Pedro), 9 hour day, beautiful places to learn about and you have got the perfect combination for a fantastic day. We visited castles, sandy beaches with large waves, amazing restaurant with local cuisine and the farthest western point of Europe. Pedro shared local history and his Portuguese hospitality. Thank you for making my birthday better than I could have even imagined.

First thing in the morning, the charming, knowledgeable and helpful Bernardo (“Benny”) picked us up at our hotel in Lisbon, in a very nice van. At our request we made a quick stop for coffee and quiches, then he drove us north to the grotto de San Antonio, the most impressive cave system any of us had seen. About 1.6 km walking route underground, (handrails and ropes throughout) beautifully lit with natural-colored (white) light. We proceeded from there to the gothic Batalha monastery for a look. Then to the Taberna d’Adélia in Nazaré for a fantastic lunch with the most delicious Moqueca camarão stew and fresh lobster anywhere! We returned to Lisbon after a look at the famous surfing beach and lighthouse at Nazaré. Though it was May, and not high surf season, we appreciated the views of the water and seeing the place we were so familiar with from “100 foot Wave”. Benny was surprised that our prior experiences in Portugal had informed us to create such a specific tailored itinerary. Every moment worthwhile, despite the somewhat rainy day. We all felt comfortable, safe and secure with Benny’s excellent driving,

Had a wonderful day at Quinta Da Regaleira . The lines are long and it’s a steep climb but it’s well worth it once you are in. The gardens are beautiful with plenty of opportunities for great photographs. The Initiation Well is a must see. Afterwords we strolled down to the town of Sintra for some lunch and a little shopping. The locals were delightful. A very enjoyable day was had by all.

Good communication and fun guide. Loved that it was a small van tour and not a big bus. Lunch was delicious and definitely worth the price. Loved that it included a quick stop on the beach and some tasty treats.

An absolutely incredible experience and day out in the Portuguese countryside with Lawrence! I don’t even know where to begin, but this tour is so much more than just seeing Sintra—it’s about making friends, sharing meals, and enjoying what I consider the best day of our entire trip. I don’t want to spoil any of the fun or surprises for others, but I now see this as a must-do in Lisbon. If you skip it, you’re seriously missing out!

I just returned from 10 days in Portugal and one of the highlights was the day I spent on the Sintra Tour with Keep It Local Tours. Our guide Pedro was so knowledgeable and informative and, brought the Quinta da Regalia to life. Plus, he's fun! The lunch that we had at a home was the best meal that I had in Portugal! Additional stops gave an overview of this beautiful area. I also appreciated that this was a small group. There were 7 of us including Pedro.

Everything was great. Our guide Joao was friendly, polite, knowledgeable, did our day pleasant and secure.

Our guide and small group was perfect for exploring! We learned a ton and were able to connect as a group. Our guide made us feel special, provided fun surprises along the way, and even gave us recommendations for the city of Lisbon as well afterwards. Great way to see Sintra. Timing of everything was great. Only thing I did not love was the location we stopped for lunch. The food was good, but expensive and we had to pay that set price in cash only, which was a bit annoying to me. Otherwise, fantastic trip.

The tour was unique and very informative and interesting. I appreciated the balance of seeing one of Sintra’s palaces in detail alongside the incredible natural beauty in this area. Our guide David was friendly and warm and answered all of our questions. As a solo traveler, this was a fun way to meet a few other people traveling on their own.

Our tour was excellent. We enjoyed the castle, beach and lunch. Joao was a very good guide who made the tour fun. We spent very little time in line like other visitors. I would strongly recommend the Epic Tour of Sintra.

Loved our day with our guide, David. We brought our 11 and 14 yr olds daughters, and they loved it. it was the perfect combination of riding and sightseeing. David and his company have premier parking at the castle, and their restaurant connections gave me one of my best meals in Portugal! He did a great job of learning the people in our group and what we wanted out of the day, tailoring it to each. His van was equipped with a frisbee and ball for the beach - which made it even more fun. Thank you, David!

Marta did a great job with the tour. Spent some time at various places. I recommend this tour if you want to have a feel of Sintra.

The gardens, the well and the caves were very interesting. Our guide didn’t provide many facts about the places we visited. He had a lot of details about plants and trees but very little info on the places. He was frequently speaking to only 1-2 people in the group and others couldn’t hear him. Even in the van he was so soft spoke we continuously had to ask him to repeat or speak up. People in the back basically gave up and just couldn’t hear anything. Lunch was fine. The surprise at the end was a horrible liquor that almost no one drank. We’ve toured a lot and this is in the bottom 5% for us. Would not recommend unless you want to learn a LOT about plants.

Marta was the most wonderful tour guide. She is so passionate about Portugal and excited for us to experience Sintra and our small group has an amazing day. She did a great job telling us about Sintra all while driving us through the winding streets. The sights, food, and overall experience were everything I could have asked for. She even had a few surprises for us along the way!

David was an amazing tour guide. Very knowledgeable and kept a great pace the whole tour. Each stop gave us enough time to enjoy the different areas of Portugal. The beach was amazing!!!

This is a great way to get a taste of Sintra. If you are looking for a tour that is palace, palace, palace, palace, this is not the one for you. We got to spend a long time at Quinta da Regaleira really soaking it in and learning about it. The trip to the beach was beautiful and a nice post-lunch break. Take the time to walk to the cliffs for some Insta-worthy shots. My favorite part was probably the Mystic Forest (aka Fairy Tale Forest). We got to finish with a little time in nature and see a different side to the city. Lunch was also great. Our guide, David, did a wonderful job sharing in the history and information not only about Sintra but also about things to do and try in Lisbon. (And great music, too!)

My wife and I took a tour of Sintra with Joao today, and we are marking this down as our most memorable day of our 8 night trip. From start to finish, the tour was filled with personality, good friends, great food, tons of knowledge, but most importantly…FUN. Joao made the tour something that we won’t forget, and is one of the reasons why we plan to return to Lisbon with our kids so they can experience his guidance. We had an amazing time with Ricardo on our tour of Sintra. We had no idea how many great stops there are in Sintra! After this tour, we want to go back and spend more than just a day so we can fully experience all that this city has to offer. Ricardo was a great tour guide (and DJ) and gave us great insight into of each of our stops, all while making us laugh at the same time. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone.

Very beautiful building and gardens, well worth a visit. The tour of the building is very quick. The initiation well is well worth seeing in the gardens.

Our guide, Marta was excellent. She spoke English very well and was well understood. Marta is a local and from Lisbon and was very knowledgeable. She even gave us a few surprises and brought us to a local restaurant that served us a scrumptious lunch. I would definitely recommend Marta, if you can get her as your guide. We had an unforgettable experience with Duarte as our host. Didn’t know what to expect of Sintra but he was the best person to show us all the hidden gems throughout. He was very enthusiastic and you can tell he loves his job but the best part of him is that he made us feel like friends. Had a delicious inexpensive lunch and we got surprises throughout our tour. Definitely one of our highlights of our vacation!

I had an incredible and easy journey to Sintra. The route includes wonderful sites, an incredible lunch that caters for all diets and multiple fantastic views of the west-mist coast of Portugal. I would definitely recommend this tour!

I recently went on a day trip to Sintra with the fun tour guides Duarte and Simão, and it was amazing! We explored Quinta da Regaleira with its hidden tunnels and underground caves. The Octopus & Rice at Pensão Sisudo was delicious, and the Lemon Tarte was out of this world. We swam in the caves at Praia da Adraga and stood at the westernmost point in Europe, Cabo da Roca. Duarte made sure we had a taste of the local culture with aguardente and travesseiros. The view from Miradouro de Santa Eufemia was breathtaking. It was a fantastic day with great guides!

Duarte was an excellent tour guide. He made the trip very memorable. He was knowledgeable about the sites we were seeing and had such a fun attitude toward it all. I would recommend him highly.

This tour was amazing! A full day in a small van that included a 100 year old bakery, kuinta da regalia (cintra tour of gardens, palace, hamlet, views, 5 course gormet lunch in the intimacy of a local restaurant, adraga Beach (farthest point west in mainland europe) and some highlights of lisbon. Amazing value, eco friendly tour that cannot be missed.

What a magical day. I can't imagine visiting the palace garden without a tour. It's full of hidden passages and underground tunnels you can get lost in. Our tour guide shared so much rich history and story telling it helped shaped the experience knowing the artistic vision and intent behind the design. Lunch was delicious and very filling. Resetting at the beach was very lovely. Lots of treats and good stories. I highly reccomend! Prepare for dark caves and small stairwells. We used our phone flashlights. Felt like a fairy tale!

We had a great day last month touring Sintra with Marta. She was very upbeat and knowledgeable. The itinerary has a great variety of beautiful places and our teenagers were never bored. We also stopped for some great local pastries, which was the perfect way to end the day. The lunch is not included, but for a fixed price of 15 euros per person, we went to a petiscos (portuguese version of tapas) restaurant where we were served an amazing lunch. I have several food allergies and they went out of their way to accomodate this and make sure I had plenty to eat. There is so much to see and do in Sintra, I wish this company would offer a second different day trip so we could could go back again and visit different palaces with them next time we are in Lisbon.

João was a brilliant tour guide! Full of information, as well as providing delicious treats too! I’d thoroughly recommend this tour.

This was the best day of our trip! Vasco took us (together with a small group of six superfriendly Americans) to Sintra. We visited the small town and then he took us on a "spiritual cleansing" in the beautiful gardens of Quinta da Regaleira that ended at the amazing circles of hell! We came out completely healed :) Then it was time for lunch and Vasco found the perfect little local restaurant with an abundance of good local food and wines. To process our lunch, we headed to a beautiful secluded beach where we could bathe our feet in the Atlantic. When Vasco brought us back to the city, he gave us a Sintra pastry as a farewell gift. An experience of a lifetime, thanks Vasco!!

This was the highlight of our trip to Portugal. Our guide Ricky was warm and friendly and very informative. The Regalia was a magical place with beautiful and enchanting gardens. Loved seeing the cliff side beaches and the lunch was really delicious. Thank you for a great experience
