Diogo our driver/tour guide had extensive knowledge of history and architecture. The places he took us where visually impressive. Highly recommend!

Itinerary
A tour designed entirely around your preferences. Unlike standard excursions, our private tours offer total flexibility, allowing you to prioritize the sights that matter most to you. Whether you dream of the colorful Pena Palace, the mystical Quinta da Regaleira, or any other architectural gem in Sintra (such as Monserrate or the National Palace), the choice is yours ( we accompany you during the visit to the interior of the palaces). Expert Tip: To ensure a balanced day, we suggest selecting a maximum of two interior palace visits. This allows you to fully enjoy the history without rushing, while still leaving plenty of time to explore the coastal beauty of Cascais and Estoril within the 8-hour duration. We believe the journey should be as enjoyable as the destination. All our tours are strictly private, ensuring an intimate experience for you and your group. For groups of more than 4 passengers, we guarantee the comfort and space of a premium Mercedes V-Class or Mercedes Vito.
Pena Palace is one of Portugal’s most stunning landmarks, set high in the hills of Sintra and offering breathtaking views over the region. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a masterpiece of 19th-century Romantic architecture, combining Moorish, Gothic, and Manueline influences in a colorful and dramatic setting. On this tour, visitors will explore the palace’s grand courtyards, intricate arches, and richly decorated royal rooms, gaining insight into the life of Portuguese royalty. The experience continues with a walk through the lush gardens, where exotic plants, hidden paths, and peaceful lakes create a magical atmosphere. Sintra is very rich in Palaces, the choice of the palace or palaces to visit is exclusively yours, the guide will give you information about all of them, and together you will decide the most suitable one (s) for you (entrances not include).
The historic center of Sintra is a charming and picturesque village that feels like stepping into a fairy tale. Surrounded by lush hills and mystical forests, this UNESCO World Heritage site is known for its narrow cobbled streets, colorful buildings, and historic landmarks. Visitors can explore the Sintra National Palace, with its iconic twin chimneys, and browse local shops offering traditional pastries like Travesseiros and Queijadas. The town square is filled with quaint cafés and restaurants, perfect for experiencing authentic Portuguese flavors. Sintra’s center serves as the gateway to famous attractions such as Pena Palace, Quinta da Regaleira, and Moorish Castle. The vibrant atmosphere, combined with stunning landscapes and rich history, makes it a must-visit destination for travelers seeking both culture and natural beauty.
Cabo da Roca is a breathtaking coastal viewpoint marking the westernmost point of mainland Europe. Located along the dramatic cliffs of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, it offers panoramic ocean views where the land meets the vast Atlantic. Visitors can stand at the iconic stone monument, engraved with the famous words of Portuguese poet Luís de Camões: “Where the land ends and the sea begins.” The area is known for its rugged cliffs, strong sea breeze, and stunning sunsets, making it a favorite for photographers and nature lovers. A visit to Cabo da Roca is often combined with trips to Sintra and Cascais, offering a perfect blend of history, culture, and coastal beauty. The lighthouse, perched on the cliffs, adds to the mystical atmosphere of this must-visit destination in Portugal.
The historic center of Cascais is a vibrant coastal town known for its quaint streets, lively atmosphere, and scenic waterfront. Once a fishing village and later a royal retreat, Cascais combines elegance and tradition with a relaxed seaside vibe. Visitors can stroll through cobbled streets lined with boutique shops, cafés, and seafood restaurants, offering the freshest catch of the day. The Town Hall Square and Praça 5 de Outubro are great places to soak in the local ambiance. The Marina of Cascais, the sandy beaches, and the impressive Palácio da Cidadela provide stunning backdrops for exploring. With its mix of history, culture, and coastal charm, Cascais is a must-visit destination.
Estoril is a sophisticated coastal town known for its luxurious atmosphere, golden beaches, and rich history. Located just a short drive from Lisbon, it has long been a favorite retreat for royalty, aristocrats, and even spies during World War II. One of its main highlights is the Estoril Casino, one of Europe’s largest and a possible inspiration for James Bond’s Casino Royale. The Tamariz Beach, with its calm waters and seaside promenade, is perfect for a relaxing stroll or a meal at one of the beachfront cafés. Estoril also offers golf courses, scenic coastal walks, and easy access to Cascais and Sintra, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a mix of culture, history, and seaside elegance.

Awesome experience. It needed to edit the route due to Iron Man but I think it was even better because we saw towns that I have never seen before
Hugo is an amazing host and a true joy to spend the day with. Made our trip to Lisbon as excellent experience
Absolutely incredible day spent with Diogo. Highly recommend this tour. He went above and beyond to make sure we had an amazing day exploring the area. A true delight!
Excellent experience from start to finish. Very quick and easy booking process through WhatsApp, and super accommodating of our starting point. Our guide, Pedro, connected with us a few days before the tour. We were traveling with elderly parents, and Pedro tailored the day to our interests while being mindful of the super hilly Sintra! He stayed with my in-laws when they weren't up to doing the well at Regaleira while my husband and I went through. He was a careful driver (not an easy feat on those narrow, winding roads), had a lovely sense of humor, and took some seriously cool pictures of our group. We ended the tour buying the typical cheese pastries right from the back door of the factory:) We could not have wished for a better guide to Sintra.
Great experience with Paula as she is an extraordinary guide!
This is the second time we have had a private tour in Portugal with Walkboarder and had Pedro as our guide!! He is AMAZING! So knowledgeable and helpful! You can let him plan the entire tour or tell him the highlights you would like to see and he will build what he can into the tour! The price for the entire vehicle of up to 6 people was AMAZING (Seriously the MOST AFFORDABLE private tour you will ever take)! Included cruise port pick up and drop off. We also had a mobility scooter and there was plenty of space in the back to store it. Pedro also loaded and unloaded it when he didn’t have to! I highly recommend Walkboarder tours and get Pedro if you can! Communication was quick and prompt for every email I sent, easy digital payment. I will definitely be using them when I get back to Portugal!!
We took a private tour of Sintra , Cascais and Estoril . Our driver Paula is an amazing person. She was prompt, courteous cheerful ,and never short of local stories and lore. Sintra castle was beautiful! Portugal is a beautiful country and people are nice. Will definitely be back!
We had a wonderful tour with Ruben. He was knowledgeable and friendly. He also had great stories to add to the tour, and he provided us with some great food recommendations as well. He helped adjust the tour so we didn't need to repeat what we'd already seen and we were able to spend more time where we preferred. We highly recommend both Ruben and Walkborder Tours!
Our trip to Sintra with Paula was so much fun! She has lived in Sintra for decades so really knows it inside and out. She accommodated my need to go easy on my knees so graciously. She knows everyone in Sintra and it made a huge difference! I would HIGHLY recommend this tour with Paula!
Paula was an excellent guide. She lives in the area and knows it very well and has knowledge of all signigicant historical sites in the area. Felt like our new "best friend" after spending the day with her.
We had the absolute pleasure of spending the day with Paula on our private tour to Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril, and it was truly unforgettable. From the moment she greeted our family, Paula’s warmth and professionalism put us at ease. Traveling with kids can sometimes be tricky, but she made everything seamless, fun, and stress-free. Her deep knowledge of the region’s history, culture, and hidden gems brought every stop to life in a way that kept both the adults and the kids engaged. Paula’s ability to efficiently navigate and plan the day meant we were able to experience so much more than we ever expected, without feeling rushed. She knew exactly how to balance the must-see highlights with local secrets, ensuring our time was maximized and memorable. Beyond her expertise, Paula’s genuine kindness and enthusiasm made the day feel like we were traveling with a family friend rather than a guide. She tailored the experience to our interests and needs, and her thoughtful touches made all the difference. If you’re considering a private tour, we cannot recommend Paula enough. She turned what could have been a good day into an extraordinary experience that our family will cherish forever.
Skip the casino if you are expecting a historic experience. It is very modern. Sintra was the highlight especially with our guide, Paula, who was born and lives in Sintra.
We booked a private driver tour of Sintra and Cascais with Paula. She was very kind, a safe driver, and extremely accommodating throughout the day. She also gave us great advice to purchase Pena Palace tickets ahead of time which is important as the early slots sell out. I would highly recommend starting your day as early as possible since Sintra gets very crowded. That said, her limited English made it difficult to get much detail from the historical explanations, so we didn’t take away as much context as we’d hoped. The Pena Palace itself was beautiful but packed with visitors, which made the experience feel a bit rushed. For lunch, Paula took us to a seafood restaurant on the ocean. While the setting was nice, the food was just average, and in hindsight I would suggest researching and choosing your own restaurant if you’re looking for a more memorable meal. Afterward, we asked her to drop us in Cascais to explore on our own, which was a highlight—a charming seaside town well worth visiting. Paula also offered to take us to see more monuments, but we decided to end the tour there. Overall, this was a convenient way to see Sintra and Cascais, especially with Paula’s flexibility and helpful planning tips. To get the most out of it, I’d recommend doing a bit of homework beforehand on restaurants and sites, and if in-depth history is important to you, requesting a guide with stronger English fluency.
Guide was professional but accent was challenging to understand. The van had issues with a/c. The tour was compromised due to hot conditions and threat of fires which closed the Pena Palace at Sintra. The coastal restaurant selected by our driver near Cascais was outstanding.
Had a wonderful day touring Sintra with Paula, she catered to all our wants and needs! Paula is a local and that certainly made a big difference for us 💙 she knew everyone, 😉. She took us inside so many lovely buildings that were not part of a typical tour. Excellent communication with tour company that made booking and pickup at cruise port a breeze! Thank You Paula for a lovely day!
This was a very good private tour. The locations, the guidance, the drive and the places that we stopped, but incredibly good. It was a rainy day, but this tour made sure that we did not miss a thing. Great job done by tour company.
We had the best time. Manuel was an awesome guide. He knew all the ins and outs. Was extremely informative. Took us to extra places with unforgettable views. Went above and beyond. When you book this tour make sure to request Manuel. You will bless me for this recommendation.
This company left us at ease that our tour of Sintra would be handled well but we had no idea how accommodating our guide Manuel would be. His knowledge of the area is incredible. It is obvious he has true expertise. My only regret is that we didn't just let him take us to his favorite places instead of the " tourist locations " we asked to go to. We would not hesitate to use this company again and request Manuel. Beautiful car as well.
Paula was exception! Tour is a must do and was an easy and flexible way to tour Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril from Lisbon. She was friendly, informative, and being locals knew all the ins and outs to customize the tour to meet our needs. A must do and worthwhile tour!
We had an absolutely incredible experience with our guide, Paula. Her local roots in the Sintra and Cascais areas were truly clutch—thanks to her insider knowledge, we didn’t just hit the typical tourist spots. Paula took us off the beaten path to some amazing hidden gems that only a local would know about. One of the most memorable moments was a stop at a seafood restaurant she used to visit as a child. The food was nothing short of phenomenal—fresh, flavorful, and authentic. It felt like we got a true taste of the region’s culture and cuisine. From breathtaking views and unforgettable meals to the stunning photos we took along the way, the entire day felt like something out of a dream. This was easily a trip of a lifetime, and Paula played a huge part in making it so special. Highly recommend!
Alex was an amazing guide - he turned up punctual and his car was so lovely to travel in. Also worked to our pace … as we don’t mess around ! Very knowledgeable with a lovely manner. Great restaurant recommendations for lunch and evening. Alex made the trip a 5 star experience!
Manuel Da Silva was our tour guide. Strong local knowledge, very efficient time management and very client focused. Highly recommended.
Walkboarder was the only tour company operating during our visit to Lisbon, and lucky for us we had the best guide Ruben who was a treasure trove of information! Hugo, their CEO, was always quick to respond to all our emails, and made the best arrangements for our private tour to our desired places to visit! Obrigada to both! We highly recommend them!
Thanks for making such a trip possible. The organization, the effectiveness, the planning and on top Ruben, who drove us for 3 day tour were just perfect. We felt so comfortable although being so far from home. Everything worked out in time and perfectly; Ruben is such a pro, he has complete knowledge about various locations. We felt very safe and were treated really well. The car was always clean, washed and the fresh water that was placed every day at our seats was very much appreciated from our side. We will definitely recommend your travel agency as well as Ruben to our friends.
Our guide was terrific!! We enjoyed seeing Sintra and the palaces but our favorite part was riding through the beautiful countryside!!
Rubens was very professional and knowledgeable. We loved Pena palace, Sintra town, Cabo das Rocas and Cascais. Highly recommend it. Palace is very whimsical and beautiful. Recommend you get the transport to the entrance because it is uphill.
1. Nice driver is not a tour guide at all 2. Being a private « deluxe » tour at $500 for a couple for a day, they sent an older mercedes mini van for 10 people with stiff seats (and suspension) that don’t recline AND manual transmission. That makes for a rough ride. At this price point you would expect a sedan with automatic transmission. Makes for a very uncomfortable ride for a tour that’s mostly about riding around the area. The operator was completely irresponsible and disconnected from the client. They knew there was a major Iron Man competition and everyone in the business knew that access to Cascais would be compromised and that destination is a major part of the tour. After driving around for one hour trying to reach the restaurant it became evident that it was impossible to continue with this unpleasant tour and we decided to stop it and head back to Lisbon. Ended up asking for 1/2 of our money back through the customer service based in the Orient (which is completely dysfunctional) and we received an email stating that they were sorry that we were not satisfied but essentially to take a hike. These subcontractors don’t care and hide behind the layers of intermediation in the system Trip Advisor is doing a disfavor to consumers by referring us to companies that are irresponsible and don’t care about the satisfaction of the customer.
We utilized Walkbordwe Tours to book a trip to Sintra during the first week of October. It was so worth it- we visited the main three places in Sintra- Monserrate, Pena palace and the Regaleira- all with the help of Hugo the owner and Alfredo the driver and tour guide. Alfredo was very knowledgeable, professional and super easy to get along with. Before booking, I had many questions and Hugo patiently and professionally answered all of my questions and assisted us. Many thanks to you both!
A really convenient start to the day, picked up right outside our hotel, bang on time, by our tour guide Manuel in a comfortable air conditioned and spacious vehicle. We'd already bought tickets for Pena Palace but hadn't realised how busy that place gets... Manuel got us inside on record time and once there, gave us an impressive tour, pitched just right with pockets of fascinating detail. Clearly, because we'd unknowingly chosen the most busy of the palaces, this cut into the time we had for exploring Sintra and Cascais but we saw everything we wanted to see, and later, Manuel found us a lovely little town with a flea market and a bakery before talking us on an extensive coastal tour with breathtaking views. All the way, he gave us fascinating information, not just about where we were bit also about the Portuguese way of life. Highly recommended!
Our driver, Jose was THE BEST!!! He was absolutely amazing. He helped us with all our luggage (6 housewives from the US so it was quite a bit. He led us to and through the entire tax refund process and where we needed to take our bags. It was the least stressful I had been in the airport EVER! Thanks so much Jose!!!!
We had a terrific day, highly recommend this tour and driver. We went to Montserrat palace, amazing! Then had terrific lunch in Cascais, by the seaside. Truly great day.
Alfredo was such a wonderful guide. He drove us everywhere on a private tour and came inside wherever we were touring giving detailed explanations of what we were seeing. He took great pictures at each stop to share with our friends and families and have as memories. He was friendly and knowledgable and it was such a magical day and amazing experience.
The guide was outstanding. He gave us one of the best tours possible. We weee shown all the key points.
We had a good experience. It was a lot to see. I recommend it if you are willing to do some things on your own. Driver is great. He explained us very well where and time of the meeting points at every location.
We toured through Portugal for 2 weeks. For 10 days of that adventure, we toured with WalkBorder Tours. The trip was incredible, and we cannot complement WalkBorder Tours enough! Ruben was AMAZING!! Having a custom itinerary, very knowledgeable guide/driver, and the flexibility to adjust as we went along made this trip absolutely unforgettable! We cannot recommend WalkBorder highly enough!
Rueben was an exceptional guide and ambassador for the region. His recommendations were spot on and he managed to weave us through the crowds to amazing locations including Pena Palace as well as a local restaurant that was amazing. He was a good photographer too as he took some terrific portraits of my wife and I.
Beautiful Pena Palace - knowledgeable and very courteous guide. Loved seeing the Capuchin Convent. Timely pickup and drop off with stops to see sights.
Great Tour. Our guide Joseph - Anthony was very knowledgeable and considerate. He took us to beautiful places and provided great information. He also made sure we got to the palace on time and checked on us. He went in the palace with us to provide additional information. I highly recommend this tour. 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Manuel was great and left me amazed with his knowledge of Portuguese history. He covered every detail when showing us the castles of Sintra. Would highly recommend.
Highly recommend this tour, we did with Pedro as our driver/guide . Unfortunately we had very poor weather at Sintra with almost no visibility, but Pedro made the best of the situation. Give us very good instructions to walk around beautiful Cascais. Very knowledgeable and helpful..
Manual was a very knowledgeable guide and tailored our experience to our needs. We opted to skip the Pena palace as the lines were so long and Manual directed us to many hidden gems among palaces and gardens that were gorgeous and uncrowded! He also arranged for us to have a longer visit at the Hotel Palácio which we were very interested in for historical reasons. We saw so much and learned so much!!
This was a great tour with Pedro our guide. We were lucky to find them as our cruise had changed the itinerary at the last minute. Wanted to go to Sintra and view the coast, and this was the perfect tour. Pedro was so knowledgeable of the area and the history. Pedro met us at the port and suggested we do the coast first than Sintra as we would avoid the early crowds and rush hour. It was perfect. We bought tickets for Pena Castle and went thier right after lunch. When you come to Lisbon I highly recommend them for any tour. As we were a small group private tour, 6 people, Pedro would adapt the tour to what we wanted. There pricing is very fair compared to other companies that were charging a lot more.
Manuel has a great deal of information and historical knowledge of Portugal. Great day with a great guide.
Great customized tour and fantastic lunch suggestion! We would recommend this tour to other travelers that want hands on help and avoiding large groups.
Very knowledgeable friendly driver with a comfortable clean car for us!!! Went out of his way to accommodate our group. I would definitely recommend!
We spent a wonderful day with Alexandre exploring Obidos, Sentra and the stunning Portugal coastline. Alex was engaging, knowledgeable and flexible, accommodating our interests. I highly recommend Walkborder Tours!
we visited several areas sound Sintra and Cascais, Estoril. Alex was very informative and we toured places that we wouldn’t have thought of on our own.
We had a whirlwind all day tour of Lisbon. We were able to see all the primary sights and then some. Vitor was courteous and gave us relevant information but did not overwhelm us with details. He kept us moving (we are active people) which included walking through some neighborhoods, cathedrals and historic castles. He also gave us good intel on follow up activities.
We used Walkborder tours for a 10 day trip through the country. Together with Hugo we outlined a trip that took us from the north ( Porto) down to The Algarve region, and much in between. Hugo was very patient as we had a lot of email exchange back and forth during the planning of the trip. I provided a rough outline of what we wanted to do in the amount of time we had available, and Hugo made it work. Our guide was Pedro C. who clearly has a great love for his country and that was demonstrated many times over the course of the tour. He also navigated the streets/hills of Lisbon like a pro! He was receptive when we needed to slow the pace down, and have a more relaxing day once we arrived in Albufiera (Algarve). Overall, it was a wonderful trip and well organized.
