Great day exploring Sintra and Cascais with guide Maria! I traveled alone but met nice people and the day turned out amazing! Worth the entire day of biking!

Itinerary
Sintra is a wonderful villa, full of history, located at one of the foothills of the Serra de Sintra. With its castles, palaces and small streets full of colors, it is an authentic fairytale setting. Here we take a short break to see the village, have a coffee and taste the traditional pastry.
This is a mysterious place, inside the garden there are several tunnels and a well where you can enter. On days when there are many visitors it is impossible to visit the interior, you waste a lot of time in line, on other days we allow you to visit this place.
In addition to visiting the village of Sintra, on this tour we also visit the Sintra Natural Park, surrounded by wonderful trees, enjoying magnificent views in an enchanting atmosphere.
Huge cliffs next to the Atlantic and some beaches are also part of this Natural Park, for this reason we'll also cycle on top of the cliffs and visit some beaches, especially the wonderful beach Adraga , where on warmer days it will be possible to swim a little.
This is the most westerly point in Europe, passing through this symbolic place is another highlight of this tour.
Still within the Sintra Natural Park, we will visit one of the highest points of this mountain range, the Santuario da Peninha, which has an absolutely wonderful view. On sunny days it is possible to see Lisbon, Cascais and the entire expanse of the Atlantic Ocean.
This is one of the most famous beaches in Portugal, known for its large and powerful waves, it is great for surfing and wind surfing.
Located between Serra de Sintra, Praia do Guincho and Vila de Cascais, you will find this place, where sometimes the sea is so strong that people started calling this place the mouth of hell.
This city became very famous during the Second World War, when many European royal families came to live here. Here we will cycle close to the sea, an authentic blue lake, close to wonderful houses and breathtaking landscapes.

Our guide Miguel, a local legend led us through the mountains, jungle, and along the ocean to some of the most breathtaking locations in, around, and between Sintra and Cascais. When we arrived in Sintra we stopped for a quick coffee and pastries, grabbed some fruit, and saw some beautiful historic castles. After an amazing bike up into the forest, we headed down from the mountains and enjoyed a wonderful seafood lunch not far from the sea. This is a must-do if you love biking and want to experience Portugal and its beauty in a very unique way. Be sure to bring plenty of water as it’s a long day- 8 hours. Be prepared for some uphill, downhill and off road terrain. That said, Miguel will tailor the tour to meet you where you are. Totally worth it and an epic experience with Miguel! We will be back!

We really enjoyed exploring Sintra and Cascais with Maria. She shared interesting information about the area, and answered our many questions. The pastries at the coffee shop and traditional Portuguese lunch were great. Maria led us safely on our route and asked to make sure we were comfortable and doing well. We were able to see so much on this bike tour, both history and natural beauty. Definitely recommend seeing the area this way if you like to bike.
Great tour guide and beautiful tour!! Got to see things and places your couldn’t go in a can or car. The forest was beautiful. Great views.
The guide and company are outstanding. Safety is one of their top priorities and historical knowledge as well. The ride had the right amount of adventure and easily navigated thanks to our guide Maria. Very good price point.
This is an amazing, ALL DAY e-bike ride. All day, meaning your butt will be in that saddle for 8 hours, so be forewarned. But the pain I feel now was absolutely worth the wonderful experience. Maria was fantastic- she shared so much history of the palaces, buildings, sites, and park. She stopped frequently to share information and to let us drink water. Oh, bring lots of water with you, and sunblock. The e-bikes have saddlebags so you can take all your water and belongings off your back and enjoy the breeze. 10/10 recommend to anyone wanting to explore the area. Just bring some ibuprofen for after 😅
This tour was incredible! I didn’t know anything about these 2 cities/villages, but they are gorgeous and the temperature is much cooler than Lisbon on a hot day. Sintra can get crowded with tourists, but with ebikes you can get around quickly and its sooo much better than walking up the many hills! Ebikes are so fun, especially on the offroad parts through the park, getting you to some fabulous views. Thank you Maria for the excellent tour!
This was an amazing way to spend a day, seeing such varied parts of Portugal. We went from the urban bustle of Lisbon to the charming hillsides of Sintra, through the beautiful forest preserve, and down to the beaches of Cascais. It’s an exhilarating and action-packed way to see the region. Also, our guide was awesome!!
Miguel was absolutely amazing. He tailored our e-bike tour to exactly what we wanted. He gave us options like to stay on pavement or off road. He made it so much fun for our teenage boys.
Fantastic tour. The e-bike was in great condition. Maria, the guide was helpful and informative. Highly recommend this activity.
We loved the day of biking. We had a great small group and tour guide. I would highly recommend this tour!
Mary was wonderful. Her explanations were very helpful. We stopped twice for refreshments. First, for a coffee and a snack. Second, for a very nice lunch. The other stops were to take in a number of views and learn more about what we were seeing. Since Sintra and Cascais were the playgrounds of the well to do, biking in "their footsteps" was perfect, especially through the forest. Probably one of the best tours we have taken. It was a very full day!
The tour was very well designed. It started with a warm-up ride along a seaside cycle path, which gave us time to get used to riding the e-bikes before heading into the hills. The e-bikes were powerful and made it easy and enjoyable to explore the hilly areas of Sintra and the surrounding countryside. Along the way, Maria shared interesting bits of history, which made the experience even more enjoyable. **Tip:** The guide is very flexible when it comes to lunch, the places you visit, and the overall duration of the tour. It's a good idea to think in advance about what you would like to see and do. The tour can last more than eight hours, so keep that in mind when planning dinner or any evening activities.
We had such a fun day. Maria was a wonderful guide. She took us to an adorable pastry shop to a treat early in the day. Gave us a choice between grabbing sandwiches to eat along the way or going to a restaurant for lunch. We picnicked in the forest. She spent an extra couple hours with us. No rush, just wanted everyone to have a good time.
Maria ensured we had an incredible adventure from gaining e-bike confidence to teaching us how to take the train to seeing just about every every angle of Sintra from sea level to a 1600 foot elevation gain. We exceeded our daily steps as well as e-biked over 20 miles. This excursion exceeded every expectation! Thank you, Maria!
Maria was our guide for the day and she was brilliant, giving us lots of facts for all of the areas we visited. The route was great, Sintra simply stunning. Loved the whole experience and would recommend to everyone!
We had gone on their 7 Hills ride the day before and It was amazing, and we were looking forward to this one to see more of Portugal outside of a Lisbon. Edwardo was amazing. Great history and sights and his knowledge of every area we went by and in was great. Castles, sandy beaches. amazing forest and homes too. We had lunch had a fabulous restaurant he recommended and it delivered. It will get its own review, but it was called Nicolau. Outstanding salads, tacos, sandwiches and more. When we return to Lisbon we will be booking again. Thank you Edwardo and Lisbon Bike Tours!
Maria was an excellent tour guide. The day was better than I expected, challenges when we were off-road… beautiful when we were on pavement. Plenty of stops along the way as we desired, everything flexible. I highly recommend this E bike tour.
Miguel was a fantastic guide. Fun, informative and safely navigated crowds and traffic. Saw a variety of scenery we would not have seen any other way. The e-bikes exceeded expectations.
It was one of the best bike tours we have done! We got to choose to go off road or not. We chose to do off road and there wasn’t anyone else, and we were in a national forest. The food at lunch was phenomenal. I am not usually a sangria person, but it was great and refreshing! Just be prepared for wind blown sand near and at the first beach.
We booked an e-bike tour exploring Sintra and Cascais. Our guide was Maria from freebiketourslisbon.com. Maria was very knowledgeable and getting us on and off the train from Lisbon to Sintra and then back from Cascais was not an easy task. She was very safety conscious, which when riding a bike is very important to us. We stopped at a great little restaurant that was out of the way and Maria suggested a great meal. Great workout even on an e-bike! If you enjoy cycling this tour with Maria is highly recommended!
It's a pretty long day, lots of time on the train. But the park and the views are fantastic. The guide was nice, however she should have stuck to the time advertised. We got back too late.
First of all this tour gave us far more than we ever imagined. Maria was an excellent leader and guide and she made sure we were always safe. We discovered and saw sights in the Sintra area from old town Sintra, to forests, back roads, mountain tops and beach’s. It was a wonderful full day of adventure. We biked over 50 km’s stopping for a coffee break and a lunch break all the perfect time. This is one of our most memorable and enjoyable guided tours we have been a part of. Would highly recommend.
Absolutely amazing experience. Let's set the sights and views aside for now, but Maria, my tour guide, was absolutely amazing. She spent the entire trip providing what I can only call generational knowledge about the city, its landmarks, Portuguese customs and culture etc. After the tour, I basically felt I could move there and actually fit in once I learned the language. I've been on many guided tours and even bike tours in my life, and this was by far one of the most informative and enjoyable I've been to. Now for the fun and beauty of it. Sintra is an absolutely stunning city, and getting to climb the hills, go through the national forest, and end the trip along the coast line is pretty hard to beat. It is a relatively long trip, but the motors on the bike do make it fairly easy, though some effort and attention is required to climb the hills. But believe me when I say the views, and just the experience of going through the national forest and exploring the coast line, was a highlight of my trip and would highly recommend it to anyone relatively active/comfortable on a bike.
This was the highlight of our trip Lisbon. The tour takes you through beautiful scenery, from the hills of Sintra, over the mountain to the beaches of the Cascais area. Our guide Maria was nice and accommodating. Since it was myself and my partner on the tour, we were able to decide if we wanted to go off road or on road for part of the journey - we chose off road, and it was so beautiful, so nice to see countryside/hinterland that we would never have gotten the chance to see. Off road was a bit more challenging of a cycle versus road so would say it's not for the faint of heart. Overall, would fully recommend the tour!
Great experience touring Sintra and the coast to Cascais. Our ride leader Maria was excellent - knowledgeable, patient, and maintained a good balance of stops and rests throughout the day. The e-MTB bikes were in good condition and well suited for the multi-surface terrain (road, fire-road, trail, bike path) we encountered during the ride.
This experience was easily a highlight of my Lisbon holiday. I was travelling solo, and as it happened, I had the whole tour to myself — which made it feel wonderfully personal. The route was stunning: winding through the forests and mountains of Sintra before opening out onto the gorgeous coastline at Cascais. I chose to focus on the cycling and the natural scenery rather than visiting the palaces, and it was absolutely the right call. Maria was exceptional. Attentive throughout, impressively knowledgeable about the history and each of the stops, and refreshingly flexible when it came to adapting the itinerary on the fly, she even helped research lunch options along the way, which was such a thoughtful touch. I had the best time. Couldn't recommend it more highly.
A tour to never forget! We cycled about 30km during the whole trip, so it’s not only fun, but also a workout. Be prepared for rough terrain when you go off road, so a more experienced cyclist may benefit from this tour. Overall a super fun day that we will never forget.
This was a great tour and really glad we chose to do it given we only had a short stay in Lisbon. We were able to see as much of Sintra and Cascais as we could in one day - the perfect way to combine site seeing with adventure. Miguel is a legend!
Miguel is an outstanding guide! He is very passionate about combining cycling, beautiful locations, and fascinating historical info. The electric assist bikes were a lot of fun to ride. Our journey took us both on and off roads with plenty of spectacular views. Loved this ride.
Beautiful country. We spent about 6 hrs overall on the bikes and covered a little of the country. ( Didn’t actually go into any of the buildings. ). Be aware that, even using the E bikes, a couple of the older people in our group did get REALLY tired The bikes were in good condition and the guide, Miguel (owner) was very knowledgeable. However, his style of leadership made things very difficult. He yelled at us a lot.
Miguel did an excellent job, unfortunately my wife was not able to join us. She had a stomach problem after Sunday dinner, unfortunately it happened less than 24 hrs before are tour, not allowing me to cancel her reservation. Certainly more challenging than we expected, not really suitable for people without biking experience.
Overall a great bike trip. Miguel is an extremely passionate and knowledgeable guide and he took us to many amazing and historic sites on the road from Sintra to Cascais. We stopped at a historic bakery in Sintra for a morning snack and at an excellent bistro for lunch. The trip was extremely challenging and included off road riding on rocky trails in the Sintra mountains as well as several miles on a heavily trafficked highway as you enter Cascais. The trip is best for experienced cyclists with e-bike experience. The reason for the score of 4 is that while the trip is advertised as running 8 hours, from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, our trip lasted 9.5 hours. We didn’t return until 7:00 pm. We had to cancel dinner with a friend due to the late return.
Miguel is the best! He took our group of 4 on a spectacular day-long trip. We started in Sintra and quickly became familiar with the bikes. Then he took us through the rain forest and towards the coast. He chose a wonderful spot for lunch and then we started the downhill trip to Cascais. It’s stunning. We saw beaches and had an opportunity to swim and we went into the town. All four of us (all over 60) had an amazing day with Miguel. Take the trip - you will love it!
We couldn't have had a better time on this tour. Miguel and his team were knowledgeable, funny, patient - just the best! We stopped for a delicious, affordable lunch with our guides and fellow riders which was an amazing experience. Absolutely worth the price for this all-day tour! Get ready to see the off-the-beaten path side of these areas and feel like you’ve truly had a unique experience.
The most beautiful tour and best time we had in Portugal! Our tour guide Miguel was funny and knowledgeable and took care of us every step of the way. Highly recommend!
Our bike tour to Sintra and Cascáis was absolutely incredible! Miguel, our guide, was AMAZING. He truly was a jack of all trades and full of wonderful surprises throughout the day. It felt like a private tour mixed with a food tour, with plenty of authentic and local touches that made the experience so special. We met some wonderful new friends along the way and created memories we’ll never forget. You can tell Miguel is incredibly passionate about what he does, and that energy made the whole experience unforgettable. Highly recommend!
This is an excellent way to get to see the sights of Lisbon and the surrounding areas like Sintra and Cascais. Fun and informative with knowledgeable guides. We had Miguel who was very accommodating for our personal needs as a small family with one young teenage boy. I would say you should make sure all participants are reasonably fit, confident and competent riding a bicycle in the city and rural areas, as quite a lot of distance can be covered throughout the day, but the e-bikes are really great, quite powerful, and make easy work of any terrain. All in all, a fantastic fun day out, a brilliant experience, and well worth money.
Great experience with Maya as our guide. We were lucky to have a private tour and traveled over 30 miles. The weather was excellent, and the lunch spot was out best meal in Portugal. Thanks so much Maya!
We had the most amazing time on this ebike tour. I felt like we were in a movie riding in the hillsides of Portugal 🇵🇹 and then along the coast with majestic panoramic views. We had lunch at an amazing local cafe with everything very fresh and organic. Our awesome tour guide, Maya, easily picked up on what we would enjoy most and made it happen! 100% recommend this tour
Maya was our guide for the day unfortunately it was very hot on the day but we still managed the hills on our e-bikes and arrived at Cafe Ocidente a favorite restaurant of our tour guide Food was excellent and Maya was vibrant and looked after us well even though she was a bit fast on the bike Obrigado
Thank you Miguel for an amazing bike ride! This was hands down one of my favorite things I did while in Lisbon, I loved everything about the tour.
Fantastic ride through historic towns , national parks and along the coast. My guide Miya was excellent and gave great insight into the local sites.
It was great fun with Miguel and Rodrigo. He took us to the touristy spots as well as the not so touristy ones. We rode approximately 47km through a variety of landscape. I would totally recommend this to someone who enjoyed the outdoors.
Awesome day out seeing the highlights of Sintra and Cacais. Our guide Maya was very informative about the history and made sure everyone kept up as group. She took us to a locsl.place for lunch. Maya also stopped along the way so we could take beautiful pictures of the scenery. This tour is a must highly highly recommend we thoroughly enjoyed this as a family.
The ebikes make this such an easy ride for the distance. Quick bike to the train station. Once in sintra A few steep hills but not too hard, and balanced by long downhills. Mia was absolutely fantastic. Great and giving us tid bits of info and keeping us entertained. Lunch was fantastic at small local place. We ate a lot and had some wine so bring 20-30 Euro for lunch. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses especially in the summer. 10/10 would recommend. No saftey concerns at all was the best part of my trip so far.
This e-bike tour was hands down the highlight of my trip in Portugal. Maya made it exceptional!! From start to finish she was the perfect guide:Knowledgable, energetic, and completely in tune with our group's vibe.. She Navigated us through busy streets of Sentra, moving safely and smoothly all while sharing historical insights and facts. Making the experince extremely special and unique was that Maya took us to her home village for lunch and a market. It was a personal touch where we received VIP treatment from the local restauranteur. The ride was scenic through small villages hosting festivals, had scenic coastal views while we were out running an incoming storm. Maya navigated the entire day Perfectly! Just loved it and would highly recommend the tour and Maya as the best guide of all!!
What a great way to enjoy a full day! Miguel was a fun trip leader and made sure all our needs were met. A fun way to get to experience and get a flavor of Sintra and Caiscas. The opportunity to get off the beaten path through the woods and along the coastline was refreshing. The views were incredible. There were many opportunities to stop and take in the scenery. Lovely lunch stop on the way back sampling Portuguese tapas. A very enjoyable day!
The guide Maya made the day! She was absolutely delightful, informative and caring. The routes and views are well worth the tour. I would highly recommend
