Had an amazing day out with Ivo. His passion and excitement was present throughout the day. He gave excellent historical accounts of the sites, his favourite locations to visit, and managed a large tour group very well given the scale of the tour and the distances walked. Sintra is the best out of the lot - even Pena Palace. The Initiation Well is worth the walk. Special mention goes to his counterpart driving the bus (apparently for 26 years now). Excellent driver, managing tight streets throughout sintra and the like, with ease and poise.
Really enjoyed all the stops included — a comprehensive list of major sights in the area — which is why I chose this particular tour and operator (Odyssey). Our guide was excellent. Be prepared for a very long day though. I thought there was too much allotted time for the shopping stops. If those were shortened by just 15 minutes each, it would have been a reasonable days adventure. I want to say our day ended up being like 9 hours long.
Wonderful experience with a knowledgeable, friendly, and kind guide. Ivo was passionate and expressive with his explanation of the various stops. Ivan was an excellent driver who skillfully navigated the windy hilltop roads. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Lisbon!
This was a well organized day trip from Lisbon. Our guide JLo was a wealth of information along the way and as we made each stop. And he was the first driver we could actually hear well while on the bus - thank you! Our only complaint was the website did not explain the ticket purchasing well, it said you could buy tickets onsite, however the Castle Regaleira was completely sold out so we could only view from the outside. We were able to purchase tickets for Peña Palace Park onsite. We just toured the outer castle and grounds, but feel that was better - the lines to get inside were incredibly long, many in our group waited at least 20 minutes to get in. It would have been nice to have even more time to further explore the castle grounds. The stop for late lunch in Cascais was wonderful. Alll-in-all it was a good trip and would recommend.
Rita was a great guide. Really knowledge about all the places we visited. She navigated queues for us so we did not waste time obtaining tickets or joining the wrong queue. She gave us plenty of time to explore at our own pace & we did not feel rushed at any point. We had a great day. Thanks Rita.
The price of the tram up to the Pena Palace is not included. Get ahead of time on line if possible, otherwise you will be waiting in line with admission tickets purchasers; NO separate line just for tram!
We took the tour with Viator to Sintra and Cascais and our tour guide was Ivo and the driver Alex. Both were exceptional! Ivo was very knowledgeable and did his best to also talk to my mom who spoke Spanish. Great attitude and answered questions with a smile. Great experience! Thank you 😊
Nice trip enjoyed time and good place for lunch. Overall good. Trip nice castles and gods tour. Guide funny
Our guide Ivo was great. Found the time at both palaces very short, about an hour each, with only 30 minutes in Sintra.
What an amazing trip! The palace, towns, and other areas that we visited were spectacular. Our tour guide and bus driver made it even better. Iron Man 2026 was going on in Cascais and our bus driver attempted 3 times to get us in so we could continue our tour. Forever grateful. Ivo and Junior, this trip would not have been the same without you.
Had a little trouble finding the meet up location. One location sent with initial reservations and then later a second email sent with changed location. After finding the group, all went smoothly. Charismatic tour guide, Rita, was professional and ran a tight ship. Very short window given to people who ran late so no waiting forever for people who don’t respect others time. I totally appreciated this. Very clear instructions, excellent historical information and plenty of time given to explore things on own. Know that there is a lot of uphill walking. We have a wonderful day.
This is the first time we have taken a day tour. Definitely a great day out. Tour guide Rui C and his driver were fabulous. Highly recommended!
Tour guide Rita and driver Iago took us on a full day tour of Sintra and surrounding palaces. Beautiful scenery, whimsical architecture, and a chance to wander famous beach town Cascais. Rita was a charming and fun guide, politely herding our group up and keeping us on track while sharing tidbits of history and notable sites. Iago did a most impressive job of driving the winding mountain roads with a dry sense of humour. We had a good amount of time in all the sites, but if you’re a history buff, you might want to spend more focused tours. Also Pena Palace can be quite busy. Just a note for travellers, there’s quite a lot of uphill walks and steps, so they mean it when they say ‘moderate fitness level and comfortable shoes required’.
Ivo did an excellent job of keeping us on time and giving historical perspective. He was very informative-and made the tour FUN ! He told us what to expect on such a busy tour with many people at each site. He helped us to make it what we wanted it to be without getting lost in the crowds ! Thanks so much Ivo and Ivan (driver).
Lots of walking, stairs, elevations and evoo was a fantastic guide, gave lots of info and our driver was amazing, there were some tight corners !!!
Our guide was awful when I questioned why we had a walk so far to get to the tower he came on the bus and blasted me in front of everyone. I did everything to keep myself composed and not getting shouting match with him. He was arrogant and belligerent..
Great experience and very good tour. Saw many sites. Loved our knowledgeable and friendly guide great experience for our group
We had a great time and JLo our guide was amazing! Would recommend. Glad we didn’t get the interior pena palace option because the exterior was the main attraction.
Ivo is a great tour guide. He is very informative and keep everyone on track as a group. He gave lots of options to cater for everyone need. I heard someone called him the second best tour guide but there is not yet the best one !
Good tour. Too bad it was so busy at the palace. We were rushed. However Ivo and Junior were great. Ivo has great knowledge and made the day fun.
Guide J Lo was great. I didn't have a ticket to get in Regaleria, but went through Beister Palace and loved that
Exceptional guide named Diogo ( the horse man) very good experience with him but this trip is expensive and the second palace is not worth it.. time should be slent mkre on Cascai..
Ivu and Diogo were amazing with getting the group around… it was big group of about 40-50 people on a tour bus. The bus can’t make it down certain streets so there is LOTS of walking up hills and it is not for the weak. The scenery is gorgeous and worth it if you can make it up the hike. Sintra is picturesque and cascais is cute beach town.
Way too little time at the Peta Palace! By the time we climbed up to the site, we faced a long line to enter the palace and never reached the entrance before we had to leave or we would miss the tour bus.We had paid extra to see the inside and could not make it in. Very disappointing.
MARIO was very good and his Englih was acceptable The tour was wonderful but the walking was exausting.
Our guide Jouquim Lopez (JLo) was amazing! He clearly is passionate about the location and knows a lot of its history. We got to see a lot!
Actal tour itself was great. Our leader J-LOpes was great...knowledgeable and humorous. Downside was ridiculous queue at palace 80 minute wait for 15 min tour DO NOT buy tour add on...stick to gardens.
So glad we had Mario as our guide and Junior as our driver. Other people were stuck with JLo and Horse Boy. We lucked out! Only issue I had was the meet up. These guys should be in uniform with flags. No one knew who to go to. Who was who. Meet up at 7:45 am was a mess.
The trip was great. Unfortunately it was so overcast we couldn’t see the castle. A lot if walking to see so little of the castle. Our guide Mario was fantastic!! Received so much info from him.
Laura was a great guide! I was wondering if it was going to be worth the trip but I honestly had such a great time. I saw beautiful castles and met some nice people in our tour group. I would recommend!
What a great way to explore more than one city in a day our tour guide was amazing, very knowledgeable. I highly recommend it.
The tour person was excellent and very friendly Just be prepared for walking to high places and wear a suitable shoes
Stunning locations and a great guide. It was so much better to do this with a guide in the time we had available. Highly recommended!
This trip was a great experience! There was a decent amount to see and the sights were spectacular. If I had to do it over again, I don't think I'd get the tickets to tour the interior of Pena Palace; the best sights were from the exterior. Highly recommended!
We had a wonderful visit to Sintra! The tour was organized and ran seamlessly. I appreciated the option to have all tickets included. Our tour operator, Mario was excellent-friendly, knowledgeable and made the day great!
J Lo is a wonderful guide. He is funny, knowledgeable and so helpful. Highly recommend his tour! Amazing!
Recommended! You will walk up and up much but it is worth it. So be prepared. You see part of the history at the castles and the beach of Cascais is also another attraction.
This is a great tour to see these beautiful sites. I would recommend adding to the description effort level. This activity required a decent amount of walking up hills. It was well worth it, but some people were not expecting that. Mario our guide was very good and explained the history well.
Ivo and Ivan was friendly and wonderful persons I wish I can have them as a guide on all my trips reservations. I have a good time I will recommend my friends when they travel here to contact them.
Excellent tour we really enjoy every minute and learn a lot .. Iv the tour guide was amazing and very helpful. Ivan the drive was as well .
Sintra is amazing & Cascais is lovely - both are really worth visiting, but not on this tour! Our guide Diogo was terrible - ridiculously & unnecessarily loud & abrasive both with & without a microphone, and he provided very little historical information but lots of really cheesy jokes…. The large group was also a challenge when trying to move around, so there was a fair bit of waiting. We regretted not booking a small tour or doing it on our own :(
Our guide was knowledgeable, professional and friendly - overall the tour exceeded expectations and I highly recommend.
An amazing adventure! Our guide Ivo was fantastic and cudoos to Ivan our driver for navigating those winding, narrow roads!! For anyone considering this excursion, just be ready for lots of stairs and uphill walking, but the sights once you get to your destination make it all worthwhile.
(Sept 17) Our guide, Ival (?), was very efficient with our group and got us going very quickly to the first stop, Regaleira, then Palacio, which resulted in minimal wait time. He offered tips and gave us more historical information on the bus, which maximized the time we could spend at each attraction. In Cascais, he suggested the cash-only restaurant Jardim dos Frangos, which was delicious. So… the guide was excellent and funny, but the bus was just ok… my long legs could have used a little more legroom. Don’t forget to bring enough cash for the tip at the end. We ran out of money because of the cash-only restaurant!
Laura was terrific! Her energy is contagious! She was very informative and organized. She was a natural.
Meeting up went very smoothly. We loved Sintra and so glad we got the ticket to go in and see the Initiation Well. The view from the Pena Palace was exceptional! We had a very good time.
JLO was a fantastic tour guide! He made the tour both fun and informative, sharing lots of interesting stories and local insights. His friendly personality and sense of humor made the experience really enjoyable. We learned a lot and had a great time. Highly recommend JLO. His driver D (Duoco?) was exceptional. Very attentive and worked well with the guide.
Our guide was Joachim Lopes (J Lo) and our driver was Diogo. J Lo was very knowledgeable and great fun. I would advise future customers that there’s a lot walking up / down steps. Also, there was a large queue to get into Pena Palace.
Lots of walking and climbing steep hills, not good for someone with mobility issues or breathing issues
