Let me tell you about one of the most amazing boat trips that I have ever done. It all started with the reservation process, which was fast and clear about all the aspects to be expected on the day of the trip. We were able to select from a wide range of boats that would best serve our needs. We also had some special requests about the drinks and menu served on board which were altered according to our needs. As we came on board we were welcomed by the crew, all the safety measures were explained and we were given a small tour around the boat so that we knew where to find what we needed. This was of special importance in our group, because we had some children with us. The crew stayed attentive and engaged with them at all moments. The food and beverages were amazing, with top quality products, attention to the details were of the essence, specifically because we had some group members that had some food intolerances. The crew was very well coordinated ,helpful and friendly, attentive to all of our needs at every moment, making sure nothing was missing and that we were having a great time. We could tell that this was an experienced crew with a strong leadership. We loved the whole trip, all the sights were breathing taking and the sun set was unforgettable. All in all, it was smooth sailing and an experience that I would recommend to anyone.

The Belém Tower, built at the narrowest point of the Tagus estuary, was intended to defend Lisbon. Initially surrounded by the waters around its perimeter, today, this structure is symbolically linked to land by a pedestrian bridge. This was the way found to preserve its original context. Classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, since 1983, Belém Tower is undoubtedly one of the most expressive monuments of Lisbon.
With 50 meters high, the Discoveries Monument has the shape of a ship, comprising two ramps that ends on the prow with the statue of the initiator of the Discoveries Age – Henry, the Navigator. Also, Fernão de Magalhães, Luís de Camões, Pedro Álvares Cabral and Vasco da Gama are some of the 32 figures sculpted in stone and that can be found on the monument. These represents an historical summary of personalities linked directly or indirectly to the Age of the Discoveries. The original Discoveries Monument was built in 1940 for the Portuguese World Exhibition. It was designed by the architec and film-maker Continelli Telmo. It was built on perishable materials and dismantled three years later, in 1943.
The earthquake that destroyed Lisbon started around 9:30 a.m. on November 1, 1755. The earth shook violently. Thousands of buildings collapsed mainly in the downtown area and on the hillside to the Chiado. The Palácio Real da Ribeira, the Teatro da Ópera, convents, palaces, schools, hospitals, … Everything collapsed. The square adopted in the reconstruction plans made it possible to design Terreiro do Paço, a majestic square open onto the Tagus estuary. Today this square hosts major events all year round. One of the most impressive is the fireworks display put on by the Lisbon City Council on New Year’s Eve.
Sometimes named as the “Portuguese Golden Gate Bridge” because of its similarities with the suspension bridge of San Francisco (USA). In fact, after more than 50 years of ideas and projects, the construction of this bridge was attributed to the same North American company. Originally known as Ponte Salazar, this engineering work would go down in the city’s history for several reasons. Having cost less than anticipated and being executed in record time were two of them. This bridge is essential in the communication of the two banks, connecting the cities of Lisbon and Almada.
Alfama is the oldest neighborhood in Portugal and one of the oldest in Europe. It is located on the slope of the hill next to the Castle of São Jorge and has the Tagus River as one of its limits. It is one of the most characteristic and picturesque neighborhoods in the city, with narrow cobbled streets, colorful houses and stunning views over the Tagus River. Alfama is also famous for its musical culture, especially Fado, a traditional form of Portuguese music. There are several bars and restaurants in the neighborhood that offer live Fado performances, where visitors can enjoy an evening of music and gastronomy.
Christ-King is made up of a 75-metre-high portico, topped by the statue of the Most Holy Redeemer with open arms facing the city of Lisbon, 28 meters high. The pedestal, including the portico, rises to 82 meters in height. The monument to Christ-King is the biggest attraction in the municipality of Almada. But, in reality, the monument to Christ-King was built in fulfillment of a vow made by the Portuguese episcopate in 1940, which asked God to free Portugal from participating in the Second World War. The President of the Council of Ministers, António Oliveira Salazar, preferred to remain neutral, as Portugal did not participate in that war.
Ajuda Palace is a historic landmark in the Portuguese capital. Built in the 19th century, the palace was designed as a residence for the Portuguese royal family and is now an important national museum. Today, Ajuda Palace is an important national museum, with permanent exhibitions on the history of the Portuguese royal family and on the architecture and decorativism of the palace.
São Jorge Castle rises in a dominant position on a high hill in the historic center, offering visitors one of the most beautiful views over the city and the Tagus river estuary. The castle itself was founded in the 10th and 11th centuries, when Lisbon was an important Muslim port city. In 1147, the first king of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques, conquered the castle and city from the Moors.
The National Pantheon, also known as the Church of Santa Engrácia, is one of the main tourist attractions in Lisbon, located in Alfama district. It certainly is an important architectural attraction in the city, with a rich history and stunning panoramic views. The imposing appearance and unique character of the work justify its classification as a National Monument and legitimize its choice to house the remains of exceptional Portuguese people.
Jerónimos Monastery is 16th century Portuguese architecture masterpiece classified as a national monument. It´s located in one of the most emblematic areas of Lisbon, in a historical and monumental setting – along the river Tagus. Between the Monastery of Jerónimos and the river you can also find the Empire square. It was from here that the Portuguese navigators departed. It is here that you can find Vasco da Gama and Luís de Camões, the maximum representatives of the Portuguese maritime discoveries.
Central Tejo was a thermoelectric plant that supplied electricity to the entire Lisbon region. Built in 1908, its period of productive activity spans between 1909 and 1972. Central Tejo opened to the public for the first time in 1990 as the Electricity Museum. Soon after a new period of restoration work on its buildings and equipment, it reopened definitively in 2006.
The Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT) is a cultural institution located in Lisbon, which opened in 2016. MAAT was designed by British architect Amanda Levete, internationally known for her innovative and futuristic approach. The National Ancient Art Museum is a testimony of the Portuguese cultural heritage. Founded in 1884, the museum is located in a former palace, the Palácio dos Condes de Alvor, which contributes to its grandeur and charm. Today, its collection covers more than 500 years of art history, with pieces of sculpture, painting, goldsmithing and decorative arts from Europe, Africa and the Orient. In addition to its impressive collection, the National Ancient Art Museum is a typical example of Portuguese civil architecture of the time. The building’s design reflects the grandeur and elegance of the palace it once was, with its ornate façade and intricate detailing.
Cais do Sodré is one of the most historic and iconic places in the city. With its privileged location in front of the Tagus River, Cais do Sodré is a mandatory stop for tourists and residents of Lisbon. In the 17th century, Cais do Sodré was known as the “Port of Vessels”, where ships left for the Portuguese colonies. During the 19th century, Cais do Sodré became an area of bars and entertainment venues, attracting sailors and adventurers from all over the world.
The Lisbon Cathedral is located in the Alfama district. Its construction began in the second half of the 12th century, after the conquest of the city from the Moors. It is the oldest church in Lisbon and one of the most important religious buildings in Portugal. One of the main attractions of the Lisbon Cathedral is its treasury, which includes valuable objects such as relics, jewels and sacred art and extends over four halls.
Santa Apolónia Station is one of the oldest train stations in Portugal, having been inaugurated in 1865 in a building where there used to be a convent. Originally planned as a railway and river station, it is an important connection point for travelers visiting the Portuguese capital. Since 2007 it has also been the final station for one of Lisbon’s metro lines, and is located very close to the Cruise Port terminal. Now, the five-star hotel The Editory Riverside Santa Apolónia occupies part of the station with a total of 126 rooms alluding to the theme of Portuguese railway heritage.
The Maritime Traffic Control Centre, VTS Tower, manages navigation within the area of jurisdiction of the Administration of the Port of Lisbon – provides information and advises ships sailing in the Tagus estuary and approaching it – up to a radius of 16.5 nautical miles, centered on the VTS – Lisboa and having the Vasco da Gama Bridge as an upstream limit. Thus, controllers, through surveillance cameras, radars, sensors, among other support equipment, receive data that allows them to monitor and control maritime movement. Additionally, they are also responsible for managing the wharves. It currently also accommodates the Dolphin observatory on the Tagus River.

Lisbon’s Folk Art Museum (FAM) has a history that goes back to the 19th century. At first, it was designed as a pavilion for the “Popular Life Section” of the Portuguese World Exhibition in 1940. Five years later, a new project emerged that initiated the transformation of the previous pavilion into the Folk Art Museum. This project consisted of adapting the previous building into a museum. The museum opened on July 15, 1948. Nowadays, the museum is in charge of the Ethnology Museum and is a cultural landmark in Lisbon, attracting art lovers from all over the world.

It was an outstanding experience it was worthy to find out the Lisbon history from the sailors boat. I recommend 100%
Amazing experience, incredible staff and unforgettable view! Thank you Bruno for this day, we really loved. I already thinking when will be the next time ;)
This is a must do while visiting Lisbon!! We were a group of 7 visiting from Canada and among us had 3 kids aged 5-15. The experience of seeing this beautiful city from the water provides an entirely different perspective and the sunset cruise in particular is absolutely gorgeous! Luis and his crew were amazing hosts. Luis’s guided tour and extensive knowledge of Portuguese history made it even more memorable! Great music, great people, and great wine on board! The sailing trip was by far one of the highlights of our trip.
This was a highlight of our 18 day trip to Portugal/Spain. I recommend this for everyone to see Lisbon from the water, with incredible views from this port city. Luis and Tomas were the perfect hosts. Great sailing, very knowledgeable with the Portugal history and the sights as we rambled on the Tagas River with a beautiful view of 25 de Abril Bridge. Luis and Tomas kept us laughing and shared local wines, cheeses and meats on our way back from the Commercial Square to our dock n the Doca de Santo Amaro. We even have a selfie with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa with the president's app. My husband gets seasick and this was not even a thought on the smooth sailing. Allow time from the taxi to get to the dock as the taxis are not real sure where to drop off.
We went during our honeymoon and we absolutely loved every minute from start to finish. Luiz is a great host and is there for you with any questions or service you need(: great experience 10/10 recommend!
What a wonderful way to spend the afternoon! Everything was perfect - from the food to the drinks to the views. The crew was attentive, engaging and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our time on board. The food was expertly prepared and designed to be paired with the free-flowing local wines and beers. The catamaran departed and returned promptly on schedule. I would highly recommend this experience for families, friends and team-building opportunities.
THE HIGHLIGHTS - Gorgeous catamaran (est. 50ft) - Professional and friendly staff - Amazing BBQ and Portuguese wine - No hassle booking and email support - The perfect experience Last week, a group of 10 friends booked a 5-hour tour with Lisbon Sight Sailing, BBQ and drinks included. We travelled west along the Portuguese coast toward Carcavelos and it was paradise! Honestly, the perfect day! I wish I had booked it for 10 hours! When I return to Lisbon next year with my family, I will 100% book another day trip with Lisbon Sight Sailing! If you have any doubt, trust me, it was worth every penny! The experience surpassed all of my expectations and delivered on every level! BOOKING Booking was extremely straight-forward, and all of my questions were answered, thanks to SONIA PERES. If you are booking - or thinking about booking and have general question - speak with her directly. She answered every email instantly, managed my group's special requests, organized the BBQ, and helped me determine the ideal route for the day. (Thank you so much, Sonia!!!) THE BOAT Though a 12 person catamaran was available - and though there were only 10 of us - we opted for the 16 person catamaran, and it was a great choice. With tons of extra room for everyone to sunbath, relax on the rear deck, or hang out in the cabin. The boat was well maintained and its facilities (kitchen, bathrooms, etc.) were very clean. THE CREW I was happily surprised to see a team of FOUR assigned to our trip! The skipper, two team members managing food and drink, and LUIS LIZ, the team lead who ensured everything ran smoothly. Not only did Luis check in on each guest multiple times throughout the tour, he also took time to chat about things to do and see in Lisbon and other activities across Portugal! His involvement took the tour to the next level and I'm very grateful for his help. On my next trip with my family, I'll definitely put in a request for him to join us! (Thank you, Luis!!!) OTHER 1) We paid extra (est. CAD$40 per person) for the BBQ and drink package. Fresh meat and seafood, delicious beer and wine in the sun, pastries, salad... the list goes on. If you are thinking about taking this tour, make sure you get this add-on for your group. 100% worth it! 2) Stop for a swim! We anchored for about 45 minutes to enjoy the water. It was a perfect break from the heat and I would strongly recommend it! Just be sure to wait 30 minutes after eating ;-) 3) I noted above that our tour was 5 hours. If I had to do it again, I would recommend 6-10 hours. On a perfect day, the last thing you want is to head home early. The catamaran comes equipped with two bathrooms and a large indoor space for those looking to get a break from the sun (in case that is on your mind). OVERALL Book it this day trip if you're travelling to Lisbon - you won't regret it! Sonia and Luis were superstars and will ensure everything is fully organized and runs smoothly! Send me a private message through TripAdvisor if you have any follow-up questions; I'm happy to help a fellow traveler if I can!
Amazing experience! Grand views of Lisbon from Tagus River. We had such an amazing and relaxing time. The crew was simply fantastic, caring and accommodating. They made our day special.
We had a fantastic evening celebrating our wedding anniversary on a sunset sail. Our captain and guide were both lovely guys and very experienced and well informed. Our guide served us our favourite cocktail and local canapés as we sailed past the beautiful Lisbon landmarks. I would strongly recommend
What an amazing experience!! I totally recommend For everyone that wants to see Lisbon from another perspective!! Thank you Luis for everything, it was unforgettable 🙌!!
We had a great time with Luis and Fernando as our hosts on their spacious and nice sailing vessel. Luis knows a lot about the history of Lisbon and is a great story teller. We were lucky to see lots of dolphins, just before sunset. And last but not least: the Portuguese wines were delicious! These guys give you an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended when you want a beautiful view on Lisbon from the Tagus.
I set sail on this amazing tour with some colleagues on a recent business trip and I have to say it was the perfect way to wrap up our conference. The city of Lisbon provided a great backdrop for our tour and the sun did not disappoint with its sunset - but probably what made the trip most memorable was the incredible hospitality of the crew on board. Everyone was friendly and accommodating - and the beer, wine and food were great. The blankets when it got a bit chilly were a bonus.
We went out as a group of 22 of us for my friends stag do/bachelor party. I had done a lot of shopping around for boat trips but finally settled on Lisbon Sight Sailing and the whole trip was great. The boat was perfect and had plenty of space for us. The crew were fantastic and kept the drinks flowing all trip! (We had a package that included drinks and there was plenty to go around!) All the lads commented on how much they loved it and how it was definitely worth the money. Thanks Lisbon sight sailing and thanks Luis!
We spent 3 hours on the Lisbon Sight Sailing boat on the occasion of a bachelorette party, we were 11 friends and it was a memorable experience, the view of Lisbon from the sea is splendid, the crew very professional, welcoming and accommodating! I recommend this experience 100%! Thank you Luis for making this day memorable :) 3 heures de croisière mémorable sur le Tage à l'occasion d'un enterrement de vie de jeune fille ! 3 membres d'équipage très professionnels, arrangeants et sympathiques, je recommande à 100% cette expérience ! Merci Luis !
Had a great sailing day and lovely hospitality by Sight Sailing Lisbon folks, where I was able to view the main sights of Lisbon from a different angle while listening to the stories from a local Portuguese. Enjoyed some wine and cheese, music, sun, and good laughter. Highly recommended!
Myself and 11 friends from all around the world descended on Lisbon for my 40th birthday. I wanted something truly magical and memorable to be the focus of the weekend. A private boat cruise down the Tagus River seemed like such an experience. I reached out to several boat companies. Only one achieved what I needed - replying in a timely fashion, arranging the requirements in a stress-free manner and then delivering professionally. The trip itself was incredible. Beautiful scenery, great boat, attentive service, nice nibbles and lovely drinks. I work in tourism and when using services of other companies I demand the best, which I myself want to deliver to my guests. The excellent 5* reviews the team have received are totally deserved. Here is one more to add to the pile.
We had a nice evening sail around the Tagus river and saw sunset. Very friendly crew and a lovely boat.
I was in Lisbon to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday. He'd arranged a sunset cruise for us with Sight Sailing. We met our crew at the quay and boarded the spectacular yacht, the Nautisirius and headed up river to see the city then turned and motored out to sea as the sun set over the Atlantic. That in itself was pretty good but when we turned, the crew killed the engine, the sails went up and we flew back into the bay it was totally magical. It's such an amazing feeling to be slicing through the waves by the power of the wind alone. The weather was perfect and the crew did everything they could to make sure we enjoyed our experience.I really couldn't fault any aspect of our experience and would 100% recommend this experience to anyone.
Great experience, nice food. The crew was awesome and smiley! The captain even let us drive the boat for a while :)
Spectacular sailing experience along the coast of Lisbon in a sunny afternoon. Very friendly crew with explanations and details. A special sensible one with the Lady: a stop in front of the Plaza do Comerço at sunset, with a local sparkling wine and a cake to blow the candles out. Wonderful memories to take home.
We had the most wonderful afternoon sailing in the Tagus River, the view of Lisbon from the river is amazing. It felt like time froze and everything on land seemed to stop while the only thing left was the actual moment we were enjoying. I definitely advice to take this trip!
An extremely different experience for us. We loved getting to know Lisbon from a different perspective! The crew was 5 stars. Thank you very much for having us :)
I had a wonderful trip with a group of friends and everything went very well. I totally recommend it! Attentive and helpful staff.
amazing tour! Great boat, attentive staff and a beautiful experience! I recommend it and we will definitely repeat!
There are experiences that are so unique that they do not need many words: it would be enough to see at the end the wide smile on the faces and the body and mind completely relaxed. Worth every minute this walk on the water side of the city. Luis in addition to being a wonderful host, is a great guide of the city that, viewed from the river Tagus, gains another dimension. It is certain that everything will go well aboard the Lisbon Sight Sailing. Excellent Service. Ana Sofia Santos
What an amazing experience! A perfect tour for the end of the afternoon, accompanied by a good wine and some snacks... without being able to forget Luís and his team who made the question of going further to make this day even more special!!
I hired a tour to the river Tagus to see some tourist sights over the river and I stumbled upon very beautiful natural beauties. The sunshine inside the sailing boat is sensational. boat consists of 2 experienced and super attentive sailors. In the middle of the tour I asked if there would be a possibility to walk a little more to make records of the sunset and were extremely helpful.
Beautiful views of the Tagus, very well organized tour, unique experience in the sense that the crew adopted the route according to the passengers, to reach maximum satisfaction, always in safety, always with a smile, always friendly and friendly.
Even for those who already know Lisbon, the boat ride is a must-see experience because the perspective of the city is totally different and special. We went on a beautiful sailboat to Cascais where we could swim and it is also possible to see dolphins if you are lucky! The organization of 10: All flexibility so it is possible to propose ad hoc circuits. Highly recommended!
Unique view from Lisbon to Cascais and south shore. Personal sympathy. Workers, calm, attentive. We saw dolphins!
Unfortunately, we couldn’t complete our sailboat ride due to the global epidemic, but the Welcoming, the different options offered to enhance the trip and the customization of the project were really great! And very grateful for having fully refunded our deposit when cancelling our trip, without any difficulty! We can’t wait to rebook our trip and pass through you of course!
Fantastic day spent between the shores of Lisbon and Almada with a competent host and a lot of sympathy to enjoy this wonderful city. Thanks for the experience
I loved this ride on the Tagus. Sailing on a sailboat near the mouth is ideal to enjoy a beautiful August day. Our host captain of the sailboat brought us near the beaches for a dive. Moreover, the visit of Lisbon would not have been complete without this passage on the river that opened the capital to the world. Indeed Lisbon developed by leaving for the ocean and we understand it by taking the point of view of the navigator. Several monuments are facing the river like the one dedicated to the discoverers (from the ground you can only see the statues from the back or profile while from the sailboat you contemplate them from the front). Similarly the trade square (main square of Lisbon), the shipyards of the caravels... The Tagus is the main artery of Lisbon not to be lost.
Great sailing trip in the afternoon. The crew was very friendly and accommodating at all levels! I'm not ready to forget!! I recommend you to discover Lisbon from another angle!
A must-see tour through the River Tagus, with the possibility to admire a beautiful view of the city of Lisbon, aboard a comfortable boat, with food and drink, in the tranquility of the river. Without a doubt one of the best tours I have done in Lisbon. I recommend Lisbon Sight Sailing which provided us with a pleasant and unique tour!
Great afternoon on the water. The crew was very friendly and accommodating. We spent an unforgettable afternoon.
Sailing out in the afternoon for a bachelor party. Great idea to discover Lisbon from another angle, with friends, while enjoying the sun and the sea.The crew was very friendly and accommodating. A great time!
A wonderful trip, the view of Lisbon is very beautiful and at sunset is magical! The crew very friendly and the boat very comfortable. I loved it.
A different experience to see Lisbon and enjoy an afternoon end. And with a friendly and attentive company!
How is it possible to know Lisbon in a different way?? After taking the tours on foot, tuk-tuk or panoramic bus and already being enchanted with Lisbon, impress yourself with the view of the city from the River Tejo VELEJANDO! And it'll be very likely that you'll turn back on the photos of those on the banks of the river. See the 25th of April Bridge, the Trade Square, Cacilhas, MAAT, Memorial of Discoveries and the Tower of Bethlehem from an angle that will make your chin fall! As for SUNSET... I prefer not to comment.
With Luis and the other crew we live a unique experience on board their sailboat to discover the city from another perspective. Professional, friendly, discreet and attentive. Excellent tasting of fruits, cheeses and wines. A highly recommended excursion.
Enjoy the Tejo River on such a beautiful sailing boat, and boasted with views of such imposing monuments as the Tower of Bethlehem, and so many others, made this experience on board unforgettable. The sympathy with which we were received and the gastronomic details raised the moment even further. Definitely recommend!
A different mto experience for us and that marked our journey. We made an exclusive sailing tour along the river Tejo! To the world I want to go down!!!! The sailboat is led by Luis and Joana who are a charm. The tour runs the river Tagus passing through the 25th of April Bridge, Belém, Commerce Square. Vc observes all the monuments from a completely different angle while having information of the place. The coronation of the tour is with the sunset drinking a Portuguese wine! Magical, indescribable, unforgettable. And also had a cream cake to finish the experiment. The tour lasts around 2:30h and they have other modalities of tbm tours for more people. For an experience trip include in your itinerary.
