Itinerary
This evening starts at Miradouro dos Barros, a stunning viewpoint in Lisbon. Here you will gather against the stunning backdrop of this beautiful location to introduce ourselves, and prepare for the evening ahead. At our first stop, we will discuss the impacts of colonialism on Portuguese culture.
The adventure continues at Damas, a space that combines a restaurant, bar, and concert venue. This is where Lisbon’s queer nightlife truly comes alive and queer voices find a powerful presence. Step into Damas, a venue that supports immigrants who are driving social and political change in Portugal. This is the perfect place to savor exceptional Portuguese dishes.
We will make a brief stop to admire a mural dedicated to the Carnation Revolution. During this visit, you'll learn about the dictatorship and the historical context that led to the revolution, how it unfolded, and its lasting impact on Portuguese society.
The adventure continues at Má Lingua or A Mata, both queer-friendly bars and cultural spaces that provide platforms for the queer community to perform. At this stop, we’ll delve into the challenges faced by queer and immigrant-owned venues, including the wave of closures that occurred in 2024.
We will end the tour in a queer-owned bar, where we will discuss the contemporary queer scene in Portugal, with a special focus on Lisbon. We'll highlight the significance of associations and collectives that are leading important discussions and exploring potential solutions for the LGBTQ+ community. Additionally, we'll talk about the vital role of immigration in bringing a decolonial perspective, moving from traditional norms to truly serve a broader and more diverse community.

The Queer Lisbon Tour with Leo was absolutely incredible! From the moment we met her, Leo’s warmth and passion for Lisbon’s LGBTQ+ history shone through. She shared captivating stories, blending important historical events with her own experiences, making every stop along the way feel personal and meaningful. We strolled through the city’s beautiful streets, uncovering hidden gems and key landmarks that are significant to the queer community. Leo also introduced us to vibrant queer-owned spaces, showing us both the past and present of Lisbon’s LGBTQ+ scene in a truly inclusive way. One of the best parts was our stop at a cozy café, where we enjoyed a delicious meal and connected with the group over great conversations. By the end of the night, it felt like we had made new friends and gained a deeper understanding of the city. If you’re looking for a tour that’s fun, educational, and full of heart, the Queer Lisbon Tour. Highly recommend!
This was the best thing I did in Lisbon — an evening of good conversation, great food, and interesting historical information. By the end of the night, you've made new friends, learned a lot about Lisbon, and you're right in the middle of the queer scene as the nightlife is beginning. Great stuff.
It was an night tour that I went on alone. I was worried that I would be alone, but thanks to our guide Leonor, I had a very comfortable night. It was a great experience and the best activity I could have done in Lisbon by myself. It was a tour which I learned about the history of Portugal, queer life and had very enjoyable conversations. I am also very happy to have made new queer friends. Thank you Queer Lisbon Tour!
Thanks so much to Leonora for an authentic tour with interesting information on queer history in Portugal and Lisbon, delicious food and drinks in all queer-owned places. It was very educative, interesting and so much fun!
My wife and I attended the Queer Lisbon Nightlife Tour and truly had a splendid evening. The guide offered an enriching and inclusive experience, focusing on LGBTQ+ past and present in Portugal through a thoughtful, educational lens. Designed with an emphasis on community-based and decolonial perspectives, the tour did more than just highlight key historical points; they also explore the intersections of gender, sexuality, and colonialism in Portugal’s past. We visited a range of queer-owned spaces, from nightlife venues to immigrant and BIPOC-owned businesses, adding another layer of intentionality to the experience. The tour felt safe, respectful, and inclusive, particularly for trans individuals and queer women. We highly recommend this experience.
A perfect mixture of queer culture, Lisbon history and LGBTQ+ owned businesses. I learned so much and appreciated the community building within our group
It was a wonderful tour. The perfect mix of input and fun. It was like spending the evening with friends. Highly recommended!
Amazing tour! We received so much information and were brought to very wonderful restaurants that were queer/BIPOC owned. Can’t give enough stars to our tour guide, she gave us so much context and background that we couldn’t have gotten elsewhere!
Paulá and Leonor run an excellent tour anyone interested in knowing some of the history and current political context of queer and trans communities, immigrant communities, and social justice/leftist movements in Portugal (and especially Lisbon) should definitely take. Their different lived experiences (Paulá as an immigrant from Brasil, Leonor as a Portuguese person) provide complementary perspectives, and they are both clearly connected to queer and social justice grassroots communities here. They take their time with questions, recommend other sites and activities, and end the tour at a wonderful Black queer Brazilian-owned restaurant (which costs extra and is absolutely worth it). A must-do when you are in Lisbon!
This tour was the MOST FUN! Paula and Lenor were so incredibly accommodating because I was really excited to go on their tour during my few days in Lisbon and they worked so hard and went out of their way to make it work for me! I had the best night with them on the tour learning all about true queer history in Portugal, trying incredible Brazilian cuisines, and meeting new people. They also had recommended several places for me to try while I was in Lisbon and I have to say 10/10 for all of their recommendations. This is the real tour of Lisbon, I highly highly recommend.
This queer history tour was everything I dreamed of and more! I attended with my aunt (not LGBTQ+) and both of us thoroughly enjoyed. Accessible in terms of pace, stopping for bathrooms and snacks as needed based on the group. There was only one major uphill walk and we were able to use an escalator and funicular for most of it. I learned so much about Portugal and Lisbon history at large beyond the queer history of this place. The tour leaders take an intersectional approach to talking about queer life; discussing race, colonization, religion, queer heroes and queer villains. We ended with a delicious and energetically warm meal and drink and gabbed the night away. Can’t wait to rec to all my friends and return for their other tour! Thank you so much!
This tour was my favorite part of visiting Lisbon! Paula and Julie were extremely knowledgeable, welcoming, and fun, and it was an amazing way to explore Lisbon with a totally different lens than your standard tour and learn about important history that’s often overlooked. I saw a part of the city I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. It was also wonderful to meet other queer community in a new city. I ’m definitely recommending this tour to my friends who visit Lisbon! Thank you for a great evening!
My partner and I enjoyed getting to learn about history of Lisbon through a Queer lens. It was interesting to think about the impacts of colonialism and its lasting implications for the queer community. A unique experience and it was nice to support local queer artists and businesses.
A fantastic tour! We learned about Lisbon LGBT history from an intersectional perspective, while visiting a few restaurants and bars, enjoying delicious snacks and drinks. It was nice to meet other queer people from around the world and share histories too. The guide Eleonor was amazing. Fun, approachable, knowledgeable. We loved her. A must do tour!
the queer night walking tour was an absolute delight! Led by the knowledgeable and personable guide, Leonor, the tour took us on a captivating journey through Lisbon’s under-discovered queer culture scene. Leonor’s passion for sharing queer narratives truly shone through. The tour wasn’t just about landmarks and history; it was about connecting with real experiences and promoting a change of mindset. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore Lisbon’s vibrant LGBTQ+ community.
I loved this tour and the group we had! I suggest this tour at the beginning of your staying in Lisbon so you can go back to the same neighborhood, bars, clubs and maybe you end up having new friends for the rest of your Lisbon trip. When I’ll be back to Lisbon I will also join the Historical tour which I didn’t have time to take! 5 starts! :)
I've just moved to Lisbon and I don't know the city that well. It had an amazing time with this tour! Paula is an amazing guide and cheerful person and Leonor make us feel at home. We met some nice bars and learned on local and queer history. Very enjoyable. I highly recommend!
A very fun and informative tour where I met great people! The 3 bars we stopped at had delicious food and drinks as well as interesting history and cosy atmosphere. Our guide Bea was so friendly and knowledgeable about Lisbon and made everyone feel very welcome and comfortable. I highly recommend this tour if you are in Lisbon!
This tour was incredible! The best part was connecting with fellow queer people and sharing all of our lived experiences. I learned so much about the queer history, presence, and resistance of this community in Lisboa! So grateful I got to experience this.
It was very comfortable and a lot of knowledge shared. We went in really good bars to chill. Bea was a great tour guide, a lot of new information and great vibes all the way through the venues
I had the most incredible experience with Queer Lisbon Tour! Their dedication to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment truly made a difference in my trip to Lisbon. The guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about sharing the LGBTQ+ history and culture of the city. I felt very safe and supported throughout the tour, and it was refreshing to explore Lisbon from a queer perspective. The itinerary was well-planned, highlighting significant landmarks, hidden gems, and vibrant LGBTQ+ spaces. I highly recommend Queer Lisbon Tour to anyone looking for an authentic, educational, and enjoyable experience in Lisbon. Kudos to the team for their exceptional service!
I have travelled to many countries and have done many many tours, but this one was special! Not only the city is amazing, but the tour guides and overall experience was just so accommodating, informative and fun! I absolutely recommend it!
Best trip ever, I loved the experience, made friends and grew from there :) I loved the weave of history and contemporary joy.
It felt more like a friends walk than a usual tourist trip - and I loved this experience! The guide made everyone feel so comfortable and we had meaningful and deep conversations along the way, I learned new things about queer history of Lisbon, and it was interesting to hear personal stories from other participants of our group. One of my best memories from Summer 2023!
As a solo traveler, this was the perfect experience: I was able to connect with interesting people, support local business, and learn a ton about past/present Queer culture in Lisboa in a relaxed angaging manner.
My girlfriend and I went on the queer nightlife tour because we were curious about queer culture in Lisbon and this experience did not disappoint! Our hosts were kind, funny, and full of queer history to share. We shared a meal and visited multiple bars owned and operated by queer women. It was worth every penny!!
The experience was interesting, it showed us Lisbon queer sites, but we waited a little longer, we went to two bars and explained a little the history of the city, but it put little emphasis on the history of the collective and queer struggle. As a recommendation, I think it would have been nice not only to go to dinner and drink and chat with each other, if not, give more importance to important spaces of the collective even asking for participation of referents. Of course, the guide was great throughout.
It was a lot of fun with Julie and the other guests. You will learn a lot about the history of individual people, about the colonial period and dictatorship in Portugal and how it has developed for queer people. Through the mix of information about some people's history and casual conversations about all sorts of topics, it was a perfect evening in Lisbon. The food and drinks were great and I definitely recommend doing the tour. I got a good insight into Portuguese cults. Thank you Julie and to the team:)
I highly recommend it! We visited incredible places that will remain in our memories forever! Experience to repeat without a doubt! 🥰
