Antonio was the perfect guide! He was exceptional in every way. He was knowledgeable, responsive to all of our pre-tour questions, helpful, friendly, courteous, considerate and was willing to make the two tours we booked completely customizable to our interests. He picked us up each day at our hotel which was very helpful and he went out of his way to ensure that we were able to see all of the sights we requested even though one day was a really long day for him. We would totally recommend Antonio as a guide. He was outstanding and we feel privileged to have explored beautiful Portugal with him! Just as a side note, there were additional entrance fees at some of the sights but Antonio made sure we were aware of this prior to booking our tours.

This is the first monument to visit, it takes around 1:30h to visit. I'll be waiting for you for the next monument. The National Palace of Queluz, also known as Queluz Royal Palace, is a Portuguese royal residence, in the municipality of Sintra, which was built as such between 1747 and 1760 on the project of the architect Jean-Baptiste Robillon and at the behest of Prince Pietro (Pedro) III (1717-1786) husband of Queen Maria I (1734-1816) who transformed a pre-existing country residence. Called the "Versailles of Portugal", the palace was used above all as a place of entertainment for the royal family: concerts, bullfights and fireworks were held there, especially on the occasion of religious holidays or other events. Queen Maria I lived here for many years, but otherwise the palace was not very frequented by the royal family. It is still used for concerts and as a reception place for foreign heads of state, it also houses the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art. Ticket costs 10eur
Palace that was restored and opened on 2023
History shows that from 5,000 BC there was the occupation of this area by the Neolithic communities, thanks to objects that remain to this day which demonstrate this fact. In 1200 BC there was also a village in this place, which left numerous ceramic fragments. In the 8th century, the Muslim conquest of Al-andalus began in the Iberian territory. In the 10th century the castle was founded, administered by the caliphate of Cordoba. In 1147, the Arab domination of the castle ended, thanks to the conquest of Lisbon by D. Afonso Henriques. In 1287, D. Dinis donates the city of Sintra to Queen Santa Isabel. In 1995 the Castle and the Serra de Sintra are classified by UNESCO as a Cultural Landscape - World Heritage. In 2007 the rehabilitation of the Castle begins, already in possession of Parques de Sintra and in 2013 the Castle opens to the public, with reforms and adaptations for visitors. ticket costs 8eur
In this monument, you will visit the beautiful gardens and the Palace. Built after 1840 by Maria II of Braganza (1819-1853), as a wedding gift for her husband, King Ferdinand II of Portugal (also known as Ferdinand II of Saxony-Coburg-Gotha; 1819-1885), on the ruins of a 15th century Gerosolimitan convent and designed by the German architect and baron Ludwig von Eschwege, the palace is under the protection of UNESCO, from which it was included in the World Heritage Site (like the entire historic center of Sintra) in 1995, and on 7 July 2007 he was elected one of the 7 wonders of Portugal. Now 2020 one of the 101 wonders for Lonely Planet. ticket costs: 7,5eur+7eur to visit the gardens and the palace. If you want, you can only visit the gardens.
Splendid palace and chapel in romantic style immersed in a park with lakes, caves, wells and fountains. Built by Carvalho Monteiro at the beginning of the century as a private residence, the estate remained in private hands until it was purchased by the local council in 1997 With the help of the Italian architect Luigi Manini, he began to transform the villa and the surrounding property into the fascinating place we see today. It is difficult to imagine that a building of this size and pomp was, until recently, a private residence rather than a royal palace. The four-hectare property is just as interesting as the palace. It combines formal gardens with wild woods crossed by paths, decorated bridges, caves, lakes, waterfalls and fountains, all set between giant ferns and American redwood trees. The grounds also house a series of underground tunnels and two large wells that were once supposedly used in esoteric initiation ceremonies. ticket costs 8eur
Another beautiful Palace with amazing gardens
amazing landscape
Cabo da Roca is the western most point of mainland Portugal and the westernmost Cape of continental Europe. It is located in the parish of Colares, municipality of Sintra. The site can be visited, not to the extreme but up to an area at an altitude of 140 m. The promontory forms the western end of the Serra de Sintra, precipitating on the Atlantic Ocean. Luís Vaz de Camões described it as the place "Where the land ends and the sea begins" (in Os Lusíadas, Canto III). [1] A stone motif with a plaque marks this geographical feature to all who visit this place. Its flora is varied and, in many cases, has unique species, being the subject of numerous studies that also extend to geomorphology, among others. In the area there is a lighthouse (Farol do Cabo da Roca). It is located in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, in an area with easy access and a large tourist flow, with many people visiting it. On Sundays it is customary to meet different groups of motorcyclists. FREE entrance

Antonio was an amazing guide. So knowledgeable about every place we went and of course knew everything about Portugal. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Sintra and the surrounding area. If you need a private guide Antonio is your guy.
We had a wonderful day in Sintra and got to see so many amazing places. Antonio went to pick us up at our hotel, he was very punctual, he was actually already waiting for us before the time we had agreed on. He greeted us, explained the activities for the day and told us that if we needed or wanted to change anything along the way we could. He was easy going and very knowledgeable of the history. This is the first time we have booked a private tour and we were not at all disappointed, we will definitely call on him again without a doubt, if we return to Portugal. Our day in Sintra is simply unforgettable, thanks to Antonio. This was definitely the highlight of our trip. If you are looking for a private tour in Portugal do not hesitate to call Antonio, you will have a fantastic experience. Thank you Antonio for making our day so special!!!
We booked 3-day tour with Antonio- Sintra, Fatima and Porto. Antonio was the real deal! He took us to many amazing places that we would have not gone if we were to do it ourselves. He was very generous with his time. He let us choose our schedules and priorities. Very knowledgeable and funny. He made sure we had the best experience. Lots of stops, so it didn't feel like we were in the van too long. He took us to authentic places only locals know. Worth every penny for every tour! Highly recommend! Will tour with him again if we ever go back to Portugal.
Amazing tour. Antonio did an excellent job guiding us through the day. He made excellent recommendations on how to organize our time. We thoroughly enjoyed spending the day with Antonio. He is very knowledgeable about the history of Lisboa…despite not enjoying studying it in school. 😹
Antonio is the best guide and made the day all about us. He picked us up at the door of our hotel and made us feel so special all day. If we wanted to avoid crowds, he knew how to cut the lines. If we wanted to sit and try local food and wine - he had the best spot. He took us the long way home to see Belem and would tell us "forget the time, enjoy yourself, it's your day". We saw all of Sintra and had a peaceful, enjoyable time doing it. We had the best time and will be back!
Antonio was a fantastic guide. The tour of Sintra and the coastline was amazing. He is such a nice man. He even suggested a great restaurant for my birthday dinner in Lisbon and dropped us off there! We have had so many guides in our travels, and he is absolutely the best. Book early as he stays booked.
Antonio was amazing. He picked us up at our hotel, gave us tons of information, and showed us incredible things. We loved every minute of our day with him. We kept thinking - this day cannot get better, and then it got better. Thank you, Antonio!!
Antonio was recommended to me by a friend who used him a few years ago while visiting Portugal. Their family was very impressed with him, and therefore I reached out to Antonio and he responded immediately and said he was available for the days we were in Lisbon. Antonio spoke very good English and was very knowledgeable in the history of the palaces and ruins/castles that we saw! It was great that he basically went with us to all the tours! I highly recommend using Antonio as your private tour guide! He has a comfortable van and he is very flexible and accommodating! We were with him from 8:30 AM until he dropped us off at 8:30 PM at our hotel…. and we saw a lot of Sintra and the coast that day!
Antonio was absolutely amazing! He made our tour of Sintra one of the highlights of our entire trip. He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, funny, and genuinely passionate about the history and culture of the area. He kept the tour interesting and entertaining from start to finish and made sure everyone had a great experience. Antonio went above and beyond to make the day special, and you could tell he truly cares about the people on his tours. We learned so much, saw some incredible places, and had a great time doing it. If you’re visiting Sintra, I highly recommend booking a tour with Antonio. You won’t regret it! Thank you, Antonio, for an unforgettable experience! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Antonio was a great tour guide, communicated extremely well before and during the tour. He planned an action packed day for us and we got to see way more than we would have ever seen on our own. The only criticism is that it was probably a bit too ambitious for our family with 3 kids... He was very open to modifying the tour to suit our particular needs and all of his suggestions were spot on! I would highly recommend this tour.
Antonio was wonderful! He was friendly, knowledgeable, flexible to interests/needs, a great driver, and extremely professional. He took us to a great Sintra lunch spot to try pastries and pick up delicious sandwiches for a picnic. Would definitely recommend!

Amazing! I have not one negative thing to say about this tour. Antonio was the best. He goes above and beyond to make your trip wonderful. He will plan the tour for you, or if you have places that you want to see, he will take you there. I wish we would have had more time. We visited places that would just not have been easy to do on our own. If I ever make it back to Portual, I will be reaching out for his assistance.
I've traveled the world and always use tour guides to introduce each destination, but this was the best. Antonio went above and beyond my expectations to craft the ideal Sintra experience. We visited multiple sites, hiked, and added visits I didn't think of taking, but I'm glad we did. This includes returning along the beautiful west coast beaches instead of the highway. He was easy to travel with, very knowledgeable, and enjoys showing the best of Portugal. I will recommend him to my "nomad" friends and highly recommend this trip and tour guide to all who love the best of travel.
I booked this private tour with Antonio based solely on all of his incredible reviews - and they were not wrong! Antonio is an incredible host, guide and tour operator. He is punctual, thoughtful, warm, and overflowing with deep knowledge of the history and facts of all of the stops along the way. We were also able to take advantage of his "insider" connections and familiarity with the various landmarks - he knew what times were less busy, we were able to skip line ups, and stop at the best shops for coffee, treats, photo ops and souvenirs. Antonio's van is perfectly equipped and immaculately maintained. He offered bottles of water throughout the day, and the air conditioning provided a much needed reprieve between stops. I would recommend this tour to absolutely anyone, of any age (as long as physical mobility isn't an issue - there are a tonne of steps and stairs!), that is visiting Lisbon - don't miss out on Sintra and Portugal's incredible coastline. Antonio packed everything in that we wanted to see, and was happy to make adjustments based on our personal preferences. The value for the cost of his tour is stellar - absolutely worth every penny. I highly recommend investing this day into your trip to Lisbon. We were so grateful to have Antonio show us these spectacular sights, and he was more than happy to take photos for us throughout. Thank you, Antonio, for a tour that I will remember for my lifetime!
Antonio is the perfect guide! Kind, friendly, very knowledgeable, speaks excellent English, well organized, punctual, good driver, professional… and good company! We’re so glad we booked him for our day tour in Sintra! We were able to see and do much more than if we had tried to do it ourselves by car or train.. and so much less hassle. These palaces and castles are such busy places, but Antonio knows exactly which routes, places to stop, recommendations, etc to make the day as easy and efficient as possible. He had great ideas on other places to include or not, and we appreciated his flexibility to customize the day as we wanted! We are really, really glad we booked Antonio for a special day!! We’re sure he would be a great choice for another destinations in the area as well, and will keep him in mind in future. Thanks!!
In a nutshell: incredible experience, well worth every penny. Antonio clearly loves his job and provides such an amazing day, tailored to the person / group. I'm so grateful I found him! The backstory: I'm a seasoned traveler. Did I need a guide to get to Sintra? Clearly not (I can use guidebooks and AI to help!) But friends had used Antonio on their trip and strongly recommended him. After trying to sort out transportation alone to Sintra and between the castles and more, I decided it was worth trying to use an expert to navigate things. And holy heck, was it the right choice! Antonio met me outside my hotel at 8:30 am, and from there we sped off to the first of... 6? 7? castles? (I was jetlagged.) What I loved about this experience is, sure, you'll get to see Pena Palace and any other big spot, but Antonio takes you to the hidden gems, gives you insight into the stories behind them, helps you skip the crowds and see what really matters in a quiet, personalized manner. We went from the first castle to grab coffee and a pastel de nata, along with a lunch to-go, and then we were off into the heart of Sintra. Throughout the course of the day, Antonio expertly guided me from sight to sight. There was hiking, climbing, all the history, and more. Because you're with someone who knows the area so well, it's a great way to maximize a single day and squeeze in SO much more than you can do on your own! To top it all off, we had our amazing picnic lunch in the sunshine, staring at a beautiful old home in a quiet park (truly — still dreaming of this lunch.) But maybe what I love the most is that Antonio will help you see everything AND avoid the crowds. For someone who's only got a day in Sintra, this is clutch. We wrapped our day with stops in Cascais, Cabo da Roca, and a secret abandoned monastery. It's a long day, but just incredible. And to top everything off: a few days later I messaged Antonio and he provided recommendations for Fado. This is clearly a man who loves his job, loves his city, and loves helping people love it even more! Antonio, thank you. I can't wait to return.
We had an amazing day with Antonio. Visited beautiful palaces, gardens and view points without stress and he spent all the time with us 😍 Highly recommend!! Thanks again for your dedication Antonio!
Absolutely AMAZING experience. Not only was Antonio the most amazing tour guide I have ever had, he was such a sweet and patient person. He went out of his way soooo many times to make sure we felt good and we’re accommodated ! We got to pick the places we wanted to see and he was so informative and went in with us to every stop to make sure we got the best experience out of it. I wouldn’t usually take time to write a review but he was truly that incredible!
My husband and I went on a private tour of Sintra with Antonio. He was wonderful. We saw a variety of sites, both historical and natural and he knew details about everything. My husband uses an electrical assist wheelchair and Antonio quickly learned what sites would be the best for us. Additionally he helped carry the chair over steps and curbs. Antonio was wonderful allowing us to set the pace. His goal is to have you exhausted and happy at the end of the day, and we were both. You won't be disappointed if you book with Antonio.
"Our day trip to Sintra with Antonio was absolutely incredible and easily the highlight of our time in Portugal! From the moment he picked us up, Antonio’s passion for Portuguese history and culture was evident. He didn't just drive us from point to point; he told the story of Sintra in a way that made the palaces and misty landscapes come alive. He was a master at navigating the narrow, winding roads and knew exactly how to time our visits to avoid the heaviest crowds at Pena Palace and Quinta da Regaleira. He knew took us to some of the less know and less touristy palaces, Biester Palace. We also walked the Moorish Castle, all of it. We finished with beautiful view of the coast line of Portugal. His recommendations for lunch were spot on—we grabbed local Portuguese sandwiches and ate while we explored. Antonio is professional, warm, and incredibly knowledgeable. If you are looking for a seamless, insightful, and memorable way to see the magic of Sintra, do yourself a favor and book with him. We cannot recommend his services enough!"
What are you looking for when visiting a country? To see the most interesting sights without regretting the time wasted? Then this is what you need. Friendly, flexible,, punctual professional person loving his job and his country. Highly recommended!
Excellent tour! António is a true expert. He exceeded our expectations. This was our best day in Portugal.
Antonio gave us an exceptional tour. He spent 11 hours driving us to castles, palaces, local food, and beautiful coastal scenery. We did a good amount of walking and castle stairs which made this experience very active in nature which we loved. Antonio knows where to go and what time so we had no lines or traffic. Some of the places we went, he purchased tickets ahead so we went right in. The coastal views were incredible. We never felt rushed and spent as much time as we wanted in each spot. He gave us a few choices along the way which was nice. We learned a lot about Lisbon and Sintra history. We highly recommend Antonio for anyone looking to have an experience with an exceptional guide.
Exceptional tour! Antonio far exceeded our expectations! Antonio spent 11 hours driving us to many attractions including castles, places, beautiful coastal areas, food stops, and more. We are so grateful for the time and attention he took to make our experience perfect.
Great experience. Antonio was pleasant and knowledgeable. Great way to spend a day
We had the most magical time in Sintra. António was our tour guide and is also the owner of the company . He was extremely knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend the day with. During the drives between locations, he shared fascinating insights into the food and history of Portugal. He also took us to so many different places that we would not have been able to visit on our own in a single day. We truly appreciated his expertise and hospitality.
António is the most knowledgeable tour guide. He explained the history of every castle, palace and park, added some local spots to the itinerary, and helped us discover some of the most amazing landscapes we have ever seen. I felt like a local exploring Sintra for the day. You do have to pay for admission to all the castles and palaces, total is around 100 euro per person. You may also have to reserve the time at Quinta de Regaleira or Pena palace, so plan that ahead of your trip if those are on your bucket list. I would tour with Antonio again without hesitation. Can not recommend him enough!
Antonio was the best tour guide I ever experienced. He was knowledgeable, friendly and related well to a senior, and adult and two teens. He went above and beyond our expectations.
Antonio is a very caring and patient guide. He has our comfort in mind to enjoy the experiences. He was prepared for everything- walking sticks stool to get out of the van, rain jacket umbrellas water you name it He also knows where to get the good pastries and treated us as well! He lets you linger and enjoy the areas at your own pace Also very knowledge about the sites with summaries about the places to visit in our own language and can customize if you want to see something else that what’s in the itinerary Van is very comfortable and expert in driving Book early!
Fantastic trip with Antonio. Sintra monuments were unreachable due to storm damage, but Antonio was prepared with a plan b that took us to bhudda Eden, Obidos, nazare and batalha monastery. Unhurried and relaxed with plenty of time to shop and snack. Worth it!
Huge thanks to Antonio! He was incredibly friendly and always had a smile on his face. He made that day in Sintra so special. We had also great discussions! We are so glad we chose him for our holidays!
We had the absolute best tour today thanks to António. From the moment we got in the van, we knew we were in great hands. He was kind, funny, incredibly knowledgeable, and so accommodating. The tour van was spotless and even smelled good which was a nice touch. António took us to so many amazing places it’s honestly too many to list. Along the way, he shared history and culture in a way that was engaging, easy to understand, and genuinely interesting. Never boring and never rushed. What really stood out was how attentive he was. He always made sure we had everything we needed, checked in to see what we wanted to do, and let us spend as much or as little time at each stop as we liked. It felt completely personalized, relaxed, and thoughtful. We will absolutely be booking more tours with António. If you’re considering a tour, stop thinking and just do it. You won’t regret it.
Antonio was easily the best guide we had for our Portugal vacation. He is very professional, punctual, knowledgeable and easy to work with. He has a comfortable van and greets you with a printed itinerary for the day. He lets you choose the experience you want at the pace you are comfortable with. During our Sintra trip his itinerary included places we would not have not known if we had not gone with Antonio. All the places in his itinerary really enrich your experience. We also had a custom trip planned with him to drive us from Porto to Lisbon with multiple stops on the way. He generously worked with me to modify the previously planned itinerary at no additional cost to include stops ( Tomar and Coimbra) which we had planned for another day with another tour operator who unexpectedly cancelled on us. Antonio is an amazing guide and a wonderful resource for your travel in Portugal and I wholeheartedly recommend him.
We spent an incredible day with Antonio, exploring the palaces of Sintra, Cabo da Roca, and so many other beautiful places along the coast between Sintra and Lisbon. He also brought us to a wonderful restaurant in Sintra to pick up lunch and shared so many other restaurant recommendations and tips for traveling in Portugal. Our tour with Antonio was the very best part of our trip, and I encourage everyone to book at least one tour with him. It is the best way to see and learn about Portugal and he is a delight to be with. We traveled with two teenagers, and our time with Antonio was also their favorite part of the trip. A tour with Antonio is an absolute “must do” when visiting Portugal!
Mr. Antonio is a great driver and guide. 1: attitude he was punctual and considerate, responded to our requests without fail; 2: itinerary he adjusted the itinerary according to our needs, so that we enjoyed as much as we could; 3: profession his driving skill and introduction on these sites are impeccable. He led us into the sites, or met us after the tour. He told us the story behind the scene. And along the way, he introduced different buildings and historical sites to us. Of course, he recommended some nice local eateries, too!
Private Unforgettable Full Day Tour – Sintra, Portugal We had an extraordinary experience on this tour. Our guide and driver, Antonio, arrived right on time, and thanks to his excellent planning we were able to visit many more places than we ever could have with any other tour. We started at the Palace of Queluz, and then visited Biester, a stunning, perfectly preserved palace that lies completely off the usual tourist routes. We walked through its beautiful gardens at our own pace, enjoying every moment. To break up the drive, Antonio took us to try some delicious traditional sweet breads from the region. We continued toward the Sintra forest, visiting the Moorish Castle, the lakes area, the National Palace of Sintra, and the charming chalet. We also explored the famous initiation well and the Regaleira Palace. Later, we headed to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point in Europe—an absolutely spectacular stop. On the way back, we passed through Cascais, where we had the chance to enjoy a bit of this beautiful coastal town before returning. A super complete tour, entirely at your own pace, with a guide who is kind, knowledgeable, and incredibly attentive. We had an amazing time and highly recommend this experience.
The day started with heavy rain, so after discussing it with António, we decided to begin at Queluz National Palace to wait it out. It turned out to be a great plan, and we were able to continue the rest of the day in sunshine. Our absolute favorite was the Moorish Castle – breathtaking views and beautifully preserved. António shared lots of interesting information about each place we visited, taught us Portuguese pronunciation rules, and was flexible with the timing at every stop. I can highly recommend booking a private tour with Window to Lisboa Van Tours and António if you want to visit Sintra and make the most of your day! Despite a late start due to the weather, we managed to see Queluz National Palace, try the traditional Sintra pastries, visit Biester Palace, the Moorish Castle, take a shorter walk in the Pena Palace park, explore the Initiation Well at Quinta da Regaleira, and even catch the sunset by the ocean!
Wonderful tour. A lot of walking but at the end of the day felt great. Saw four places and took a ton of pictures. Had a private tour.
I have only compliments and praises for Antonio Meneses. He conducts his tours with smoothness, clarity and the ability to adapt to whatever situation that arises. A consumate professional.
We couldn’t have asked for a more comprehensive tour of Sintra. Antonio was not only knowledgeable, but kind, caring and generous. He tailored our tour to sites that made the most of beautiful outdoor spaces and luxurious castles and homes. What an incredible way to spend our last day in Portugal.
We engaged Antonio as a guide for four of us for a day-long tour of Sintra and nearby coastal towns, including Cascais. He picked us up at our hotel and we began a day packed with activities and experiences that can only be classified as unforgettable. He was so knowledgeable of the area and its interesting features that we were riveted and active in ways that far exceeded our expectations. Antonio was wonderfully articulate, fun, prepared, responsive, flexible and energetic, and created an extra extraordinary day. His van was very comfortable and his rates were very reasonable. We wish we could stay longer in Lisbon to further engage him – he was a SUPERSTAR!!
Was one of the best tours we have done with Antonio providing exceptional service during the tour. He was very knowledgeable about the places we visited and was flexible with what we wanted to see. He selected a very nice restaurant for us to go to dinner to sample authentic local food. Would highly recommend this tour with Antonio as your guide.
It was a day full of amazing places, beautiful views, expert guide, perfect organization. Thank you Antonio for making our trip unforgettable. I definitely recommend the tours organized by Antonio!
António was our guide for a week in Lisbon and Sintra. My wife and I were there for a wedding at the Penha Longa resort. He was very helpful from planning our visit and tours weeks before we even got there. He was very helpful in adjusting to our needs, even making sure a wheelchair was available if needed. He’s very easy to work with and accommodated some of our friends joining us in some tours. He’s very knowledgeable about his country and its history. He gave practical advice and tips, especially when visiting crowded or touristy areas, to make the best of our visit. He’s honest and respectable, and made our visit to Portugal, a very memorable and enriching one.
1st class private tour with Antonio, he was very organized, informative and gracious to host my wife and myself for a 14 hr. fun filled day!
Our group of six spent a day in Sintra with Antonio and had a truly memorable experience. He thoughtfully crafted a well-rounded itinerary that reflected our interests, blending our specific requests with his expert recommendations—many of which led us to beautiful, less crowded spots we wouldn’t have discovered on our own. We especially appreciated the overview packet he provided, as well as the rich historical context and cultural insights he shared throughout the day—including an informative language lesson. Antonio was also highly attentive to our group’s physical needs, always ensuring the pace was comfortable and never rushed. From start to finish, Antonio was prompt, professional, friendly, and highly communicative in the planning process. His tour came highly recommended to us, and we’re delighted to enthusiastically pass that recommendation along.
The day out with Antonio and his company Windows on Lisbon was probably THE best excursion we’ve ever booked! Antonio is so knowledgeable, able to answer all questions, and anxious to show us all there is to see! We were treated so well, and we set new records for number of steps and miles walked!! We highly recommend his company and tours, 5’stars all the way! Thank you Antonio!
The trip was amazing!!! We saw so many of the castles on Sintra! António is the best tour guide and he always says “it’s your day!” Which I loved. He is super knowledgeable about everything!!! Highly highly recommend 10/10
