This tour with Miguel was a great way to travel from Lisbon to Porto in a comfortable vehicle, plus visit two unique and interesting places on the way. We chose Obidos and Coimbra. Miguel was an outstanding guide with an impressive degree of knowledge about each place we visited. We came away with a deeper sense of the history as well as the present-day culture of each place, which was significant. We particularly enjoyed the visit to the Joanina library in Coimbra and the lunch recommendation!

Coimbra is a historic city in central Portugal, known for its rich cultural heritage and vibrant academic atmosphere. Once the capital of the country, it is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe, the University of Coimbra, which gives the city a unique blend of tradition and youthful energy. Strolling through Coimbra’s old town, visitors can explore narrow streets, charming squares, and historic buildings that reflect centuries of history. The university’s hilltop location offers stunning views over the Mondego River and the surrounding landscape. Highlights include the magnificent Joanina Library, famous for its ornate baroque design and impressive collection of ancient books. Coimbra is also known for its traditional Fado music, often performed by students, adding a special cultural touch to the experience. With its mix of history, culture, and scenic beauty, Coimbra is an ideal destination for a memorable tourist visit.
charming coastal city often called the “Venice of Portugal” thanks to its network of canals and colorful traditional boats known as moliceiros. Located near the Atlantic Ocean, it offers a unique blend of maritime heritage, Art Nouveau architecture, and relaxed seaside atmosphere, making it an ideal destination for a tourist visit. Strolling through the city, visitors can admire elegant buildings with ornate facades, many dating back to the early 20th century. A boat ride along the canals provides a different perspective of the city and is one of the most popular experiences. Nearby, the salt pans highlight Aveiro’s long-standing connection to salt production. No visit is complete without tasting the local sweet specialty, ovos moles, made from egg yolks and sugar. Just a short distance away, the beaches of Costa Nova attract visitors with their striped houses and golden sands. With its scenic waterways, cultural richness, and laid-back charm, Aveiro offers a delightful experience
Óbidos is a picturesque medieval village in central Portugal, known for its well-preserved walls and enchanting atmosphere. Walking through its narrow cobblestone streets feels like stepping back in time, with whitewashed houses decorated with bright flowers and traditional tiles. The village is surrounded by ancient fortified walls, which visitors can walk along for stunning views of the countryside. At its heart stands a historic castle, now converted into a charming hotel, adding to the romantic character of the town. Small local shops offer handicrafts and the famous cherry liqueur, ginjinha, often served in chocolate cups. Óbidos also hosts cultural events throughout the year, such as medieval fairs and festivals that bring history to life. With its unique charm, rich heritage, and cozy ambiance, it is an ideal destination for a relaxing and memorable tourist experience.
Nazaré is one of Portugal’s most iconic seaside towns, known for its dramatic cliffs, golden beaches, and deep-rooted fishing traditions. Located along the Atlantic coast, this charming village blends natural beauty with cultural heritage, making it a perfect destination for a memorable tourist visit. The town is divided into two main areas: the lower part, near the beach, where you’ll find colorful fishing boats, lively cafés, and restaurants serving fresh seafood; and the upper cliff area, called Sítio, which offers breathtaking panoramic views over the ocean. You can reach Sítio by a traditional funicular, adding a touch of adventure to your visit. Nazaré is world-famous for its giant waves, especially at Praia do Norte, where surfers from around the globe come to challenge some of the biggest waves ever recorded. Even if you’re not a surfer, watching the powerful Atlantic waves crash against the cliffs is an unforgettable experience.
Most important pilgrimage destinations in the world, attracting millions of visitors each year for its spiritual significance and peaceful atmosphere. Located in central Portugal, this small town became famous after the reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary in 1917, an event that deeply shaped its identity. At the heart of the town lies the Sanctuary of Fátima, a vast and serene complex that includes the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary and the modern Basilica of the Holy Trinity. Pilgrims and tourists alike gather here to reflect, attend religious ceremonies, or simply enjoy the sense of calm that surrounds the area. Visitors can also explore the Chapel of the Apparitions, built on the exact site where the visions are said to have occurred. Beyond its religious importance, Fátima offers a welcoming environment with shops, cafés, and local culture. With its unique blend of faith, history, and tranquility, Fátima provides a meaningful and memorable experience for any traveler.

Miguel was a great guide & driver. He explained so many good details about Portuguese history & adapted well to a change in our itinerary when we initially had problems reserving tickets for Coimbra University and needed to schedule a later time than expected. Everything worked out in the end. Although we speak Portuguese too, his English is excellent. Speaks like a native American.
If you visit Portugal you will probably want to see both Lisbon and Porto. So how will you go from Lisbon to Porto? By plane? Train? Rent a car? We did better by booking a private van with sightseeing stops and a tour guide. Our driver and guide Miguel was very knowledgeable and informative and showed us places of historical significance and beauty, and a great lunch spot, that we would not likely have found on our own. Highly recommended! We left Lisbon 8:30am and arrived Porto 6pm.
We also did a tour to Sintra and palaces and seaside towns. We had a great lunch on a restaurant on the beach. Maguel drove us around for 2 days and our trip up to Porto with stop overs. He was very knowledgeable. I down a few tours with IGo Portugal from 2017 to now and have never been disappointed I would thoroughly recommend them
Excellent experience with our driver Miguel. He tailored the trip to our group’s interests and even suggested stops that were off the beaten track. Very professional, very knowledgeable!
Instead of taking a train or a direct car ride, we chose this private transfer with stops, and it was the best decision. Our guide, Sofia, was fantastic, sharing stories about Portugal’s history and culture.
We didn’t want to waste a whole day just driving from Lisbon to Porto, so this transfer with stops in Óbidos and Aveiro was the perfect solution. Our guide, João, gave us great insights into the history and culture of Portugal along the way. We loved walking through Óbidos' charming streets and tasting the famous ginjinha in a chocolate cup.
This private transfer was the perfect way to turn a travel day into a sightseeing experience. Our driver was professional and knowledgeable, making sure we were comfortable the entire time. Óbidos was like stepping into a medieval fairy tale, and in Aveiro, we took a short boat ride through the canals. We arrived in Porto relaxed and happy after a fantastic day.
All went perfectly. Very knowledgeable and accommodating driver, Miguel. Lisbon to Porto with a few great spots. Thanks for a comfortable ride.
Miguel was an amazing guide; extremely knowledgeable, patient, flexible, and fun. He commands a wealth of knowledge, equally comfortable discussing historical figures as he was discussing local cuisine. He was always prompt, always attentive and allowed us to tailor a portion of our tour. He had a stable of comfortable to luxurious vehicles that were well maintained and air conditioned adding to an amazing experience. We visited Lisboa, Sintra, Cascais, Nazare, Coimbra, Porto, and wine country along the Duro River. We could not have had a more fun and fulfilling adventure thanks to Miguel.
Miguel is fantastic. Educated, professional, warm and a pleasure to spend time with. We had the pleasure of private transport and tours for 5 days. We are not typically tour type travelers but this experience was customized to our preferences. We had the privilege of experiencing Portugal through a local’s lens. Miguel shared his personal mom and pop favorites with us and gave us tips for the time we had on our own. We plan to visit again and will definitely book with I GO Portugal again and request Miguel.
Amazing trip with Carlos Silva who tailor-made the day trip for us. We learned so much about Portugal from him! First he drove us to Obidos and took us to a wonderful bakery, and a shop that served Ginjinha da porta. Then we went to Coimbra. We were going to have to skip the Library because we didn't have tickets and they were sold out. He was able to arrange some at the last minute (Don't plan on this service, get your tickets in advance!). In Coimbra we had a great lunch in an out-of-the way family-run restaurant where we had outstanding cozido sandwiches. On to Aveiro, where he took us out of the way so we could get a photo of the striped houses. Finally, we arrived at our hotel in Porto, tired but elated. Carlos also gave us suggestions for restaurants in Porto. What we thought was going to be a good way to get from Lisbon to Porto turned into one of the highlights of our trip!
Carlos created a wonderful, day-long experience for us, stopping in two cities along the way to Porto. He was so knowledgeable about history and culture that we learned a huge amount while having a good time. Carlos was also prompt, professional, and a great driver.
Expensive but professional driver who came with a Tesla and took us door to door Lisbon to Porto after a tiring flight from the U.S. made it relaxing and fun to see and hear about the country
Great experience with I Go Portugal. This one was especially fun, since we experience unexpected events that made it memorable. Pedro, our guide was great! Restaurant recommendations were spot on. Can't go wrong with I Go Portugal.
This trip to Porto was the trip of the lifetime . Miguel was very knowledgeable on the history of Portugal and the history of the city. I will never forget the culture , the architecture , the buildings of the city , The history lecture delivered by Miguel was interesting and engaging. The visit to the library from Harry Potter book was a turning point as my son has read all the books and is very fond of the saga. Porto wine tasting was another very interesting visit and the unique breathtaking views of the city are worth coming here, Thanks Miguel and IGO PORTUGAL for the extraordinary experience!
Huge delay in this review for our May 2022 booking, but would be a disservice not to share my 10/10 experience with Pedro, Miguel and team! I booked Pedro for airport transfer for my parents and siblings plus a private transfer from Lisbon to Porto with a stop in Sintra and quick lunch en route. Pedro had my family picked up and at the vacation rental in no time, despite some flight issues and changes. For our transfer and tour, we had the pleasure of spending the day with Miguel. He was the most knowledgeable guide we could have asked for and more, plus arrived right at our front door exactly at the agreed upon time. He was incredibly accommodating to our needs and showed extreme patience with our questions, detours, etc; he even insisted on waiting in the Sintra ticket line for us so we could wander the grounds awhile. He was literally a fountain of information on everything from the details of the Portuguese royal family tree to the best dessert spots on the way to Porto! Lastly, we were scheduled with IGO for a return booking from Porto back to Lisbon, however my family unfortunately contracted COVID and into quarantine we went. Not only was Pedro understanding and accommodating in canceling our trip, he went as far as offering to help us navigate the situation. After several previous visits to Portugal and several more in my future, I will simply never book with anyone else! A very belated thank you to Pedro and Miguel for everything!
If you are going from Lisbon to Porto there is no other way to go. Out driver -guide , Miguel, picked us up right on time on a new Audi SUV, super comfortable. Miguel is so courteous, professional, passionate about his country and getting the correct information across. He is a walking encyclopedia. Our lives have been ruined… there is no guide as knowledgeable and that has made us feel at ease from the start as he. Nothing has measured up. IGO is a family business and Miguel conveyed that feeling during our ride and at the end of our trip he felt like a friend. I definitely recommend the company and wish we had done our complete trip with them
Wow! What an experience! IGO's, Sonia Oliveira, made this trip an amazing experience. She is very knowledgeable and was accommodating to our needs as tourist! We saw breathtaking views, tasted delicious authentic Portuguese cuisines and felt the cool breeze of an evening sail! You name it, we were there...visiting places one could only dream of! Thank you Sonia for making us feel at home! This tour company is definitely our first go-to when we return!
This is my second trip with I Go travel company. My husband and I took a private day trip with Miguel to Sintra and liked the whole experience so much that we opted to go to Porto with him. We decided on a 3 day private tour, which included the 3 hour ride to Porto, stopping in smaller cities on the way and back to Lisbon. We stopped in the small castle city of Obidios, the beautiful beachfront town Nazaré (my favorite), the small beach town Aveiro, the town Amarante, Mateus Castle, Regue, Cascais, Bourse Palace, a train ride to see the vineyards, and all the treasures in Porto. Miguel was instrumental in arranging private English speaking tours in the castles and palaces. He drove us everywhere and did everything to make sure we were comfortable and happy every step of the way. Miguel gave us short history lessons in all the places we visited. We stopped at lovely cafes for coffee breaks and he recommended excellent lunch and dinner options. If you are looking for a private tour to Porto, and would like to see the smaller towns in between, this is the company to try. They will accommodate your needs in any way. Miguel did an excellent job showing us beautiful Portugal and we will never forget this trip and experience. Thank you Miguel for everything.
I have to thank Pedro Alves for respecting my wishes and sending me the only vegan private guide in all of Portugal. Vasyl was superb. All five of us loved him. He speaks several languages. He interceded for us on several occasions. He showed us extra little known sites on our various tours. He even took us to a sports store and spoke for us when we needed rain gear. He went above and beyond. He picked us up from our ship on November 15 and we started touring Porto. The next day we slowly went from Porto to Lisbon seeing so many wonderful cities along the way. The last three days were spent doing the full-day Evora, Sintra and LIsbon tours with him. We were sad to say good-by.
It all started with an email about a transfer from Lisbon to Porto with stops along the way, Pedro responded quickly and advised us the best for our 10-day trip in Portugal for our family. He suggested transfer to Porto with stops in Óbidos and Nazaré, which seemed good to us because we wanted to visit Fatima too. As it was our first time in Portugal, Pedro suggested other places to visit on our trip to Portugal. We started the day with Guia Sónia a fantastic guide who took us on transfer to Porto, a wonderful day so good that we ended up buying 6 days with them always with Sónia due to their sympathy, historical knowledge, their flexibility and caring for the customer. Unforgettable trip great days full of beautiful places, good food, and a wonderful guide, we visited Porto , Braga, Guimarães, Douro, Sintra, finally take a lot of beautiful places, bravo Sónia gave us memories for life. I definitely recommend this wonderful team from IGO Portugal, I will not forget you.
