Nuno was bringing us to the palace and back. Very polied en kind. Good in making appointments and reliable. Gives us a lot of historical information.

The Sintra National Palace, also known as Palácio da Vila, was one of the palaces used by the Portuguese Royal Family. The monument, of medieval, gothic, manueline, renaissance and romantic architecture, is an "ex-libris" of Sintra.
Known as the sacred jewel that crowns the Sintra Mountains, the National Palace of Pena, one of the greatest examples of Romanticism in Portugal, appears, through the fog characteristic of the region, with its colorful hues, as if it were a fairy tale. The whole scenario leaves a certain mystery and adventure in the air.
Right on top of the mountain is the Castelo dos Mouros, a fortification whose walls wind up the mountain between rocks and cliffs that dates back to the time of the Muslim occupation of the Iberian Peninsula. From here you can enjoy a unique panoramic view of the town, the Pena Palace, and the ocean that surrounds Portugal.
In the heart of the mysterious and charming town of Sintra, you will have the opportunity to visit the traditional Portuguese commerce, buy souvenirs and taste the traditional regional pastry, namely Travesseiros and Queijadas de Sintra. Snack not included. It will be offered a Ginjinha in a Chocolate Cup.
The tour starts with a visit to Quinta da Regaleira, one of the most charming and emblematic places in Sintra, full of history and magic. Here you can marvel at the architecture, visit the famous Initiation Well, the interior of the caves and explore the imposing garden that surrounds the entire palace.
On this day in the romantic town of Sintra, you will also have the opportunity to see and visit, if you wish, the Park and Palace of Monserrate. The Palace, of Gothic, Indian and Moorish influence, contrasts with the imposing green of the beautiful botanical gardens that surround it, gardens that are part of the "European Route of Historic Gardens" since 2020.
The next stop is at the westernmost point of Portugal and Europe, one of the most emblematic places in Portugal with a view of the sea as far as the eye can see.
(Optional) This village on the Sintra coast, in the parish of Colares, is worthy of a postcard. The white houses go down the cliff to the beach that, with its ocean pool, delights visitors. Enjoy the calm that this place offers you.
Known as the Riviera Portuguesa, the town of Cascais has a unique charm. Its streets full of traditional commerce and restaurants, its beaches and the 19th century palaces by the sea make this town a mandatory stop.
The tour ends once we arrive back to Lisbon.

Diogo was terrific. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic in his guidance along the way. Absolutley recommend this activity.
We had such a memorable day exploring Sintra and the other tour spots with Ricardo Martins! Having grown up in Sintra, he brought a local’s perspective and a wealth of knowledge that made the places we visited even more interesting. He was patient and attentive throughout the day, giving us plenty of time to enjoy each stop—we never once felt rushed. The tour offered a wonderful variety, with each stop having its own distinct atmosphere and charm. Riccardo also recommended a fantastic spot for lunch, which was another highlight of our day. We enjoyed our time with him so much that, after spending the entire day together, we booked a second private tour with him for the following day! That really says it all. If you’re visiting Lisbon, we wholeheartedly recommend this tour and Riccardo. He helped make our trip truly special!
We learned so much and truly enjoyed the connection with our guide. Ricardo was an excellent host. The private tour provided much more comfort and in-depth discussion compared to a larger group tour. Even in the “off-season”, the crowds were substantial at the main destinations and we were able to navigate a lot easier than if we were with a group. We highly recommend this trip with this tour guide.
We were told not to miss Pena Palace in Sintra and so glad we explored it. Ricardo was so right in telling us that the best part was the outside and that we did not need to go inside. Walking around on the walkways, up the steps and through the palace was perfect! Also, since my husband and I as well as our friends are in relatively good physical shape, Ricardo recommended that we walk through the forest to the palace. This was a beautiful walk! On the way to the palace, Ricardo stopped for us to look at the outside of some beautiful houses and Biester Palace. Ricardo recommended a family restaurant for lunch. Later we went to a vista to see where Madonna used to live as well as other palaces. Then off to the most western point of Europe for a photo op. The next stop was Cascais where the marina is beautiful! The only negative was that the van was older and the side window did not totally shut so with the wind coming in, it was difficult to hear Ricardo talk while he was driving. On the way back to Lisbon, Ricardo drove through Belem-a place that I had wanted to visit but there was not enough time. He pointed out the highlights of the city. We had a lovely day!
Fun, informative day! Ricardo grew up in Sintra and made sure we saw all the special spots, great tips for navigating crowded Pena Palace and made us feel so welcome. His humor, knowledge and passion for sharing his home town made it so special. And Sintra is a must see when in Lisbon.
Enrique was an exceptional guide, very personable and knowledgeable about all of the history as well as sharing what it is like to be Portuguese in the 21st century. By the end of the day we felt as though we had made a new friend. Would highly recommend his services.
We took the private tour to Sintra, Pena, Palace, and Cascais from Lisbon. . Our private tour became a shared tour with our permission and we ended up enjoying making two new friends from Florida. Our guide and driver, Giovana, did an excellent job of navigating the hilly switchback mountain roads to get us to Sintra on the day that the Iron Man competition was being held! We saw all of the spots on the itinerary (except for Cascais, which was apparently the site of the IronMan activities). Giovana is personable, knowledgeable, professional, and just fun to be with. Highly recommend!
We had such a wonderful time on this excursion. Nuno, our guide was extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable! He picked us up at our hotel and took us on one of the best days we’ve ever had! I went on this excursion with my wife and two daughters and we got to learn so much about the history of Portugal and the people. Nuno made sure we got to see all the sites we wanted to visit, explained so much to us about each spot. And make sure we have plenty of time to enjoy our time at each location. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone. He definitely went above and beyond, helping us out and getting us around.
Riccardo was an excellent guide, and the entire trip was enjoyable. We enjoyed the beautiful garden areas, as well as the monuments.
We had a wonderful experience with Ricardo. He is knowledgeable about the history of Portugal and as a Sintra local was able to provide insightful comments about the area. He provided tips on how best to enjoy the beautiful Pena Palace and gardens and pointed out highlights during our walk through the historical Sintra Center. He recommended a wonderful restaurant for lunch with delicious Portuguese food. Stops in Cabo Da Roca and Cascais were the perfect way to end our day.
Giovana is the nicest tour guide. So personable and informative - would request her if we were ever to do this tour again!
We had a wonderful day with Ricardo our guide. He was very personable, very knowledgeable, he gave us great tips on how to spend our time at each stop. This tour was very worthwhile and I would highly recommend it
A full day of fun with our friends on this private tour for six Thanks to our excellent tour guide Ricardo Martins. Excellent driving and route planning that allowed us to maximize our day. Key stops were Pena Palace, delicious lunch in town but away from the tourist areas, a visit to the old town Sintra area for a taste of their pastries, Monserratte Palace, Cabo de Roca Cascais and more. Pick up and drop off at our hotel. Could not have been easier Glad we picked the private tour. We could not have experienced and enjoyed this trip with all these stops if we tried doing it on our own.
We had a wonderful day with Ricardo as our guide. Loved his local knowledge and patience with us at all the locations. Lunch stop was great too.
We spent a great day with Ricardo Martin, our guide. We visited the Pena Palace gardens & walked the perimeter walls. On his recommendation we skipped the interior of the palace & we were happy not to wait in a 2 hr line to get in! On to Quinta REGALEIRA which was amazing. Ricardo had us pre-purchase our tickets for a specific time & it worked out perfectly. Overall a great day!
Sintra is perfection and Ricardo is THE best tour guide. He is a Sintra native and showed us all the best hidden away picture spots and other tips and tricks just beyond the included attractions. He was super communicative the day before the tour to make sure we were set up for success and throughout the day we were never wondering what was next. He had answers to all our questions and was super knowledgeable. Would highly recommend him for your Sintra tour!!
“Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish! Everything was well organized, professional, and enjoyable. The experience itself was even better than expected, and you could really tell that attention to detail and customer satisfaction were a priority. I would happily do this again and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable experience. Truly worth it!”
My group of 7 had a fun and interesting 8+ hours with Ricardo Martin. We were all impressed with his expansive knowledge of Portugal. We stopped at a small local restaurant halfway and were able to refresh and enjoy the regional cuisine. Peña Palace was amazing!
From the moment we were picked up at our hotel, our private guide Nuno went above and beyond to ensure our adventure into Sintra and Cascais was an unforgettable experience! Even though the weather was not cooperating with us at the start of our adventure, Nuno modified our day to ensure that we made the most of our indoor and outdoor exploring time to accommodate. Our trip in to explore the castles and coastline was to be the highlight of our stay in Lisbon and this tour did not in any way disappoint. Nuno spoke fluent English, was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his homeland and shared fascinating stories that brought the sites we visited to life for us! He took us to amazing viewpoints and we never felt rushed even though we knew we were tight on time and Nuno was running overtime. This was a fun and informative adventure! Thanks Nuno for making it such an effortless and completely unforgettable experience for us! Would highly recommend!!
We had the best day with Diogo visiting Sintra and Pena Palace and many other places. It was the best day. He was kind, knowledgeable, and very patient with our group and all our craziness. 10/10 would recommend this trip.
Book with Ricardo!! One of the nicest, most genuine guys. He really made this day perfect. I can’t imagine he’s ever met a stranger. He’s from Sintra and gave us some great insider tips for our visit to Pena Palace that saved us time and showed us some lesser known spots. The lunch he picked was awesome. Great food and great vibes. Cabo La Roca was a can’t miss, absolutely beautiful. It was a truly wonderful day.
The second time we hired, the first time we went solo with my partner, we liked it so much that on the second trip to Portugal, this time with friends, we hired our own guide again! The company is small, they are true locals and super responsible for their work. In fact, we highly recommend the experience! Portugal has become our second home!
The tour was great. Ricardo was very knowledgeable and a very kind person. It was a very hot day and no AC in the car made for a miserable ride, other than that it was great.
Ricardo was an amazing tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about all the sites we visited and had a great sense of humour! We really enjoyed our day in Sintra and I would highly recommend booking this tour.
Giavana was terrific. Very knowledgeable and flexible. She taylored the tour for us. She was delightful!
What a marvelous day! Ricardo went above and beyond to make our tour special. A must do whilst in Lisbon.
Ricardo was very accommodating. We appreciate his local knowledge. Good text communication. Good pastry stop.
We could not have asked for a more perfect day exploring Sintra, Cabo de Roca, and Cascais with Ricardo! He was a delight to get to know and took us around Sintra like a true local. We loved getting to know him and will definitely rebook with him when we return to Portugal!
Our guide Ricardo was amazing!
Excellent guide, very professional, very knowledgeable and very patient and interesting. He made our day memorable.
Excellent service . Knowledgeable driver/tour guide . Just the right length of tour . Walking to pena palace is a nice longish walk if not used to walking but definitely well worth the walk .Palace really busy but amazing ! Lunch absolutely delicious and quaint restaurant . The Sintra shoreline and beaches are amazing . Ricardo was an excellent tour guide - great sense of humour and good knowledge .
It was a fantastic day— our guide was knowledgeable and prompt. We had a great tour of Pena along with a nice relaxing lunch of wine and tapas in Sintra. Highly recommend!
We had a lovely private tour with Ricardo! We learned so much about the local area. Everything was well planned and smooth. Would recommend the tour.
Could not have been more pleased with our tour. Nuno was amazing and incredibly knowledgeable of the rich history and culture of Portugal. We felt very lucky to have him guide us.
We booked a private Sintra tour through Sintra Lovers on Viator on March 28, 2026 for a June 8, 2026 tour and prepaid in full. On May 27, less than two weeks before our scheduled tour, we received an email stating that our tour had been canceled, with no explanation provided. Canceling a confirmed, prepaid booking on such short notice is both unprofessional and inconsiderate, especially for travelers who carefully plan their itineraries months in advance. We had heard wonderful things about Sintra Lovers and were looking forward to the experience, which makes the disappointment even greater. Unfortunately, based on this experience, we will not be using this company on our return visit to Portugal.
Ricardo was amazing! Super knowledgeable, incredibly polite, and friendly! 100/10 - would recommend to anyone!
Amazing tour with an equally amazing tour guide!! We loved Nuno! He was extremely knowledgeable, considerate, personable, and the perfect tour guide. He made us feel very comfortable and taught us a lot about the history of the area. We didn't have enough time to tour the well, but the Pena palace was outstanding, and the lakes trail was beautiful. We highly recommend Nuno and this tour!
Diogo was an excellent tour guide! We had an amazing day. Very knowledgeable and social. Wear good walking shoes because, depending on what you choose to do, there will be a lot of walking!
Ricardo was very accommodating. Worked with us for a convenient pickup and stayed in touch the whole day in between stops.
Going on a private tour made the day great ! We were able to adjust some of our interest in one area if we wanted to enjoy . We had a professional and knowledgeable guide Ricardo He was from the area of Sintra and explained the areas we saw and made us feel like locals , had a great lunch ! Fun day
We had an excellent day touring Sintra with our guide, Ricardo. He picked us up right in front of our VRBO and took us to several incredible stops, including Sintra, Pena Palace, Quinta da Regaleira, Cabo da Roca, and Cascais. Ricardo was raised in Sintra and knew all the history and efficient routes. The vehicle, a Mazda 5, worked well for four people. It was a little underpowered at times, but overall it was comfortable enough and effective for the day. Ricardo took us to a local restaurant that was excellent, well priced, and not crowded. Going to this restaurant also allowed us to get dropped off right in front of Quinta da Regaleira afterwards, which was a huge time saver. From there, the Initiation Well was just a short walk up, making that part of the visit much easier and more convenient. Quinta da Regaleira did require us to buy a ticket, which we purchased on the way. However, because it is such a popular and busy site, the time slot we needed was nearly sold out. I would definitely recommend planning this in advance with your guide, especially if Regaleira is high on your list. I would also recommend coordinating with your guide ahead of time if you already know the places you want to visit. That way, they can help plan the day as efficiently as possible. The monuments around Sintra are spread out and can be difficult to access if you do not know the area, so having a guide made a big difference. In my opinion, a guide is the best way to make the most of your time, get the most out of the experience, and avoid a lot of potential frustration. This was a memorable and very worthwhile day trip. Thanks Ricardo!
Great experience, our guide , Tiago was outstanding and exceeded in all aspects. He made the day a very memorable one.
Phenomenal trip! Excellent guide !! Nuno, our guide, Was exceptionally knowledgeable and very courteous and informative! Hike to Pena palace truly is memorable !! A great photography moment for your treasured memories!
Ricardo was awesome - in addition to the excellent tour, he also shared some amazing local spots for photos and lunch.
Ricarlo was by far the best tour guide I have had even after visiting several countries. My friends and I learned so much from him and had an absolute blast. Sintra was my favorite stop out of several tours we have done while in Portugal. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone. You will not be disappointed. Fingers crossed that Ricarlo is your tour guide!
Ricardo was an amazing tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. He took us to an authentic, away from the crowds, restaurant for lunch which was delicious. It was a long day with a lot of time in the car but Ricardo made it interesting.
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. The Pena palace was beautiful, and Cascais was phenomenal. My wife and I are considering staying there for six months in an Airbnb. Ricardo was great. He was knowledgeable about all parts of the tour and the history. My wife started feeling a little under the weather, and Ricardo was great about changing the itinerary so that we got the best bang for our buck. Thank you, Ricardo. The only very minor criticism I have was the van had an odor of cigarette smoke in it. But the tour and the guide were great. So it gets a full five stars from me!
We had such a great experience on this tour, and Ricardo made it even better. He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole trip feel fun, relaxed, and engaging from beginning to end. You could tell he genuinely cared about giving people a great experience, and we learned so much while still having an amazing time. This ended up being one of the highlights of our trip, and we would absolutely recommend booking with Ricardo if you have the chance.
Ricardo did a great job, picked us at our hotel and we explored Sintra, Pena Palace, had a wonderful stop for lunch and got to taste famous pastries. Unfortunately the vehicle was broken so we had to use a back up one, that also at the end of the day broke down. Despite this we had a great time, due to the knowledgeable guide, and felt it was a great experience. If it weren't for the vehicle we would give 5 stars. If they fix the vehicle issues, we would highly reccomend!!
