Itinerary
Visit the beautiful and historic town of Sintra, a UNESCO world heritage site. Discover the picturesque streets, the Sintra National Palace, the fountains, the churches, chapels and shrines.
Your next stop is Quinta da Regaleira, one of the most amazing monuments of Sintra. Quinta da Regaleira is one of the most startling, magical and mysterious of the area. You will explore its tunnels, mazes and its riddles and symbols that are reminiscent of the mythology of Olympus, Virgil, Dante, Camões and of the Knights Templar Order. A place not to be missed! Ticket included!
A stop at a special place where you'll learn about the history of wine and taste the best regional wines.
Climb to the Moorish Castle where the construction of the first sections of its wall dates from the 8th and 9th century. From the castle, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the whole region.
Next, discover the most westerly point of continental Europe. From the cliff tops, enjoy the fantastic view of the beaches and the sea. From the road near the coast, you can gaze at the beaches and the beautiful towns of Estoril and Cascais.
On the way back, you will have the chance to enjoy this unique beach with its famous dunes. The beach is a real sanctuary for surfing, windsurfing and kite-surfing.
Of course you can’t leave without visiting the charming town of Cascais. This former fishing village used to be a royal getaway. Nowadays it is still one of the most attractive destinations for the Portuguese and foreign elite thanks to all that it has to offer including boutiques, restaurants, hotels, beaches and much more.

A full day of seeing the sites of Sintra and the southeast coast of Portugal. Our guide was wonderful and the experience was great. Encountered several large tour groups and was very pleased to be in a private tour after seeing that. Easily worth the cost.
Jose was the absolute best! Not only did we get to see some of the usual great locations and sites on our journey, he provided us with several very unique experiences that you will not find with any of the other guides (I would tell you but he has sworn us to secrecy!). He also did a wonderful job on leading us to areas where we could journey and explore on our own. Our experience with Jose was fantastic and we so enjoyed learning about the rich and historic culture of Portugal from Jose!
I have traveled to over thirty countries, and this was beyond doubt the best guided tour I have ever experienced. Yes, we saw Regaleira palace, and yes, we went wine-tasting, but that was the *least* of what we did. Traveling with Jose Ribiero is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We learned the history of Portugal, not just as dates when buildings were made, but through stories passed down across generations. From a 19-year-old prince who built a palace that blended the world's cultures, to 200-year-old grape vines that survived the phylloxera attack that destroyed the rest of Europe, we experienced several hundred years of history in a single day. And that wasn't all: we saw secrets of Sintra only the locals know, talked about everything from Voltaire to Nelson Mandela (Jose is a phenomenal conversationalist), and ended up returning at the end of the day lighter and wiser. 5 stars aren't enough.
Great day out with Jose, who knows a lot about all sorts of things including wine, houses, history and culture, from the background of growing up outside Portugal
The Regaleira Palace was amazing. We had plenty of time to walk around and enjoy. Also, the wine tasting was nice. Our driver was very accommodating and entertaining.
I don’t even know where to start. The day we had with our driver - our new friend - José, was an unforgettable experience. The morning started off with a burst of energy (mostly his, as we had all been out the night before…!), and as the day progressed, we became immersed in the beautiful, relaxed, generous culture of Portugal. It did not feel like a driver taking some tourists around. We were truly going through a transformative experience. I will never forget the day we had: from the meandering roads, the indulgent tastings, the expansive beaches, the fresh seafood lunch, the intimate wine tasting, and of course, the colorful stories and rich history shared by José along the way. The day we had was the perfect cherry on top of an unbelievable trip. José… thank you. 🙏🏻
Jose was INCREDIBLE! If you want to explore Lisbon and not act like a tourist, choose his experiences!! Jose has genuine relationships with many local businesses, thus making the day so special.
We had a great time on our tour. Our guide, Jose Ribeiro, was full of energy, had amazing stories and made the entire day so much fun!
Jose is a gregarious and entertaining guide. He can tailor your trip how you like and provide interesting anecdotes! Communication through WhatsApp was easy and travel was efficient and comfortable.
Our guide Jose was wonderful. We had such a great time and he really took the time to show us all the places we wanted to see. He educated us on all of the history of the city but made it fun at the same time. I would definitely recommend.
Excellent, relaxed trip covering lots of ground and numerous interesting sights. Francesco was a really good, laid back guide with impeccable English who didnt rush or hurry us along but happily adjusted to our whims.
Great trip! Fantastic scenery and our guide was so informative. Like having a mini “Wikipedia” at your side Very enjoyable day!
Jose was amazing—made our trip to Lisbon special by taking us to places off the beaten path with stops in Sintra and Cacais. He came highly recommended by friends who had booked him in April and he did not disappoint! He was very knowledgeable of all things Portugal. He even provided us recommendations for our last day in Lisbon and places to go when we head to southern Portugal.
I reached out early on to find out if I needed to get tickets for the attractions where tickets weren’t included and wasn’t able to find out who the trip operator was or communicate with them. We needed to know timing and more details and as a result did not see these other than driving by outside which honestly wasn’t great for all the long car ride to the castle. We didn’t get a lot of history or information from our guide-a little more after we asked for it but not up to the par of other tour guides we have had. Would have been helpful to know that the Regularia didn’t have anyone there to give us information as most people there had their own tour guides and since ours was in the car (and was written they will not tour guide this) we had to wander around and figure out on our own. She was a good driver and polite and showed us most sites just fine.
Wonderful private tour. Portugal is a beautiful country, rich in history and stunning vistas. Karina our guide was very knowledgeable, helpful and we had a comfortable and lovely experience. We would recommend this tour highly.
We had an amazing time. Jose’s attention to detail was spectacular. He made our experience special. I would definitely book him again. I highly recommend him.
José Ribeiro was our tour guide. He was the perfect host and made multiple stops, never rushed us, the perfect palace tour, a great restaurant for lunch, many out of the way stops, including a final gelato stop to finish out the day. We were totally impressed with his personalized your.... You will not be disappointed.
Our guide was Jose Ribeiro, who picked us up from our hotel. An entertaining host, and an interesting guide, who worked hard to ensure that we saw what we wanted to see, without rushing anything, or wasting any time. This was exactly the kind of tour that is so hard to find - you nominate the few things you know you want to do or see, and let your guide do the rest. This was, without doubt, one of the best tours I have ever done, really enjoyable, and without doubt I would recommend this to anyone, with a caveat - make sure you get Jose as your driver!
Had a nice day with Miguel, despite the rain! We actually saw a lot more than I expected and the pacing was great.
By far the best tour we've ever taken! Our guide Jose was super informative, funny and cared about our experience being interesting and unique. He knew all the best local stops (and lesser known too) for incredible scenery, pastries, wine, lunch and more. He also knew where to take the best pictures which will help us enjoy our trip again and again! Don't hestiate to book this tour!
Jose, my guide, was fabulous - one of the best I’ve ever had! He was on time (early), couldn’t have been more gracious and accommodating, and was a wealth of knowledge! He took me to the touristy places I wanted to see and experience, and also took my off the beaten path to places only locals know. Jose’s enthusiasm about the region is infectious!
Incredible day- we couldn’t have asked for anything better. Jose was knowledgeable, flexible and a true pleasure to spend the day with. It wasn’t a tour- it was an experience!! We left as friends with memories that will last a lifetime.
Jose was an amazing person to get to know along our journey. He was super informative, funny, and really made the tour one of a kind. My wife and I had a great time traveling to all the local spots throughout Portugal.
Jose's first impression was apologising profusely for not being earlier than us, despite arriving at our hotel 15 minutes prior to the scheduled tour start time! A clear glimpse into the attitude of the man and his tour - placing the customer first in every aspect, a clear enthusiasm for his job and a thorough knowledge of Lisbon, Portugal and their place in the world (though it must be said that our conversations veered through a remarkable range of territory over the course of the day). His knowledge of the regular and not-so-regular features of any tourist's visit to Lisbon meant that the itinerary was able to be adjusted on the go, based on our past experience with Lisbon, food palates and even the weather! If you want to go beyond the "tourist sights" of Lisbon and understand the city and country in context, you'll struggle to find a better guide than Jose - we would highly recommend this tour.
Our tour guide Jose was wonderful. The reason this is not five stars is because we booked a wine tasting, but the winery was closed due to a national holiday. The company confirmed our trip but did not let us know this; not our guides fault, but it changed the package and we may have selected differently. They should have informed us ASAP. Again, Jose was put in a bind and did his best to roll with the punches. We commend him for it.
We really enjoyed this tour. Our guide, Jose, was very friendly and professional. He customized the program to meet our needs and took us to amazing places that was really enjoyable. He is also very fluent in English and is very knowledgeable which makes travelling with him a pleasant experience. We strongly recommend this tour for anyone coming to Lisbone.
We did a custom 8 hour tour from Lisbon out to the Sintra area, with our very expert driver Jose. After an 11 hour flight from SFO followed by three hours of sleep, we had let our Jose know in advance that we would probably need to shorten our tour to well under eight hours. He very thoughtfully helped to guide our choices as to what was most important for us to experience. As it turned out, our guide was so enthusiastic, knowledgeable and fun that we lasted the whole day, even throwing in a short tasting of a highly unusual wine—that turned out to be one of the real highlights of the day! We did decide to do a drive-by viewing of a couple of their “sites” instead of going in, but it was entirely our decision. For us, the custom tour was definitely the way to go! Thank you, Jose, for sharing your spirit and expertise with us. Beautiful man.
We had a great day out with Jose Ribeiro as our "Chauffeur" as he wanted us to call him. We were picked up from our AirBnB on-time, driven the scenic route to Sintra (via Belem for the pies) and he ensured that we were first to the Initiation Well - brilliant. On from there to a fantastic lunch at a beach fish restaurant, then wine tasting with a difference, and home via land's end, the Devil's Hole and Cascais. All the time we learnt about the history of Portugal and were entertained. Thoroughly recommend this tour but do try and get Jose as your guide!
First let me start by saying that our tour guide Jose Ribeiro was phenomenal, his energy and enthusiasm while describing what we are seeing and doing and the history is that of a 25 year old even though he has children almost my age and I'm 43. If he is available, book him!!! And make sure to give him a nice tip at the end of the day as he will earn every cent of it I'm sure if you got as far as this review you have already seen all of the many stops along this door so I will save you three hours of reading trying to describe it all to you instead I will just say that in our case we had already visited Cascais & Estoril with a different tour that also went to Sintra but this tour says that you can customize it to your liking and that's what we did We got to visit Sintra National Palace, Palacio de Queluz and Montesserat instead and that was just perfect! Be advised that these attractions require a paid ticket that is not included in the cost of the tour and if you customize it to include stops not originally scheduled like we did then you will definitely have that additional cost for any additional tickets which if memory serves me right it was about $65 Euros for all of the tickets for both of us but we were totally fine with that because we got to have the exact experience we wanted. There was no fee from the tour operator to just change the itinerary.
We booked this tour at short notice, wanting to have control of our timings and the option to have a shorter day than the long large group tours. The latter were 8-11 hours of eight people in a small minibus. We paid 75 euros each plus entry fees and fees for guides or headphones for three of us in a minibus and total control of timings and destinations. We visited the National Palace, Regaleira Palace and Pena Palace. The journey was under an Hour on busy roads from Lisbon and then 1-2 hours return along the coast taking in Cabo Roca and having a delicious lunch and port and cheese tasting. There was a lot of walking on busy inclines in Sintra. We could have done the trip much more cheaply on public transport but taking longer with less control of our itinerary. We were surprised at the crowds of tourists in Sintra. The photo attached to this review is the initiation well in the Regaleira Palace.

Wonderful day tour, guide extremely knowledgeable! Highly recommended!

Excellent Tour, Luis was wonderful. Very knowledgeable and enjoyed his company. His Car was very nice and clean and comfortable. Sintra is absolutely breathtaking and fairytale like. I would recommend leaving cabo da roca and/or boca de inferno out of the tour and including Pena Palace instead in addition to quinta de Regaleira and the national palace. The restaurant recommended for lunch was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. I would recommend this tour to fellow travelers.
