David was an excellent guide. The best English of all the local guides we have ever used. We wanted to experience the local culture. He set up the perfect itinerary. The pre-trip communication was great. Highly recommended.
David was an amazing guide! Excellent communication start to finish, flexibility to meet our wishes and a fantastic driver with a spotless van. Highly recommend David for your Portugal travels!
David was an excellent guide! He communicated well, promptly and with detailed questions pre-tour to learn about us. Day of tour he sent photos of the meeting place so it was easy to locate him. His van was spotless and very comfortable. We toured Pena Palace park and he knew all the shortcuts to the best photo spots in addition to being knowledgeable. We visited a local restaurant that had delicious food and wine then headed for the coast. David took us to scenic coastal locations including the westernmost point of continental Europe. We neared the end of our 8 hr tour that flew by with a visit to the Jeronimo Monastery and Pasteias de Belem custard tarts. A last stop with David’s advice at Taylor’s Port for gifts to take home. Highly recommend him for an excellent tour!
This was our 2nd private tour with David. He is terrific. He's knowledgeable, flexible, personable and thoughtful. He adapted the tour to our specific wishes and interests. Being knowledgeable isn't just knowing the history, it's also knowing where to park and pick up in busy streets, knowing the best café for pastry and coffee, knowing where to buy the best tiles...We wholeheartedly recommend David and will use his services when we return to Portugal!
David was excellent! One of the best tours We have experienced. He was very knowledgeable and was able to explain Portuguese symbolism. He knows his stuff. He learns your preferences and caters the tour accordingly. One of the Beat in Portugal!
David was en excellent host. He started by asking us to describe the perfect experience. After that short conversation we were off. We focused on trying to understand Portugal and the Portuguese culture. David was a great communicator. He described what we were visiting, why it is important and why he took us there. He was patient and made sure we had sufficient time at each stop. His food recommendations were on point. We had a great meal in a small family restaurant away from the tourist spots. And he brought us to get some incredible Portuguese pastries (before, during, and after lunch). :-) David's vehicle was large and super comfortable! David was a very safe driver. I would strongly encourage visitors to utilize his services. We are sad that we only booked one tour with him because he can take you anywhere in Portugal and still have that local feel. By far this was the best tour guide experience we have had.
David was one of the best tour guides I’ve had in years (not just in Portugal but in all of Europe). He spoke very clearly, was able to get us to the fronts of lines that were otherwise very long/would have taken hours to get through, and had all of the best “secret” spots to visit within Sintra. Even within the public parks and palaces we visited, he knew exactly when/where to go to get the best experience and made our trip many levels better because of it. He did a fantastic job of avoiding the big crowds when possible, knew when/where to stop to give you the best view of the sites and provide historical facts, and giving you an experience that felt personal. Overall, he was a very kind and personable guy, was super passionate/proud of his country, and truly taught me about Portugal in a way that I don’t think I would have gotten anywhere else.
We had an amazing experience on this tour - recommend it to anyone visiting Portugal. The day was planned well, taking us through the town of Sintra, then along the coast to Cascais. We had a great lunch with a view overlooking the Atlantic. David made the experience exceptional. He was incredibly well-informed and shared history and insight throughout the day. You could tell he really knew his stuff, which made everything even more enjoyable.
We met David 5 years ago which was the tail end of Covid and he was on time, professional and knowledgeable with driving us to cascais, Sintra, Nazare and several cities along the way. We contacted David again and again over the past 5 years for various tours with last one being in March of 2026 to Pena Palace and Sintra. He has several cars depending on the number in your group. Cars/vans are always clean and he is extremely knowledgeable and patient with all questions and a safe driver. Bonus: he speaks perfect English! Thank you David for all your work - we highly recommend you!
Our tour with David was outstanding from start to finish. His communication was excellent—prompt, clear, and attentive from booking through follow-up. He customized the itinerary to our preferences while also showing us hidden gems in Sintra and Cascais we would have otherwise missed. His recommendations for sightseeing and dining were spot-on, and his professionalism and flexibility made the day seamless and memorable. We highly recommend David and look forward to booking with him again.
Great communication from the company well beforehand. They wanted to find out what sights we wanted to spend more time with because you can’t tour everything (multiple sites) in a day. They routed our itinerary with Belem at the end, where we asked to be dropped off because we were doing a sunset sailing cruise. Two other companies refused to alter their itinerary, even though this was a private tour. Guide/driver was wonderful. Excellent English, knowledgable, safe driver, clean comfortable car.
We had an excellent day touring all of the key sights around Lisbon. Our tour guide did a great job in helping us pick the key things we wanted to visit in the time that we had available. It was a wonderful day, thank you David.
We took a private tour of Sintra with David, and this was one of the best tour experiences we’ve ever had! David’s passion for tourism and providing best-in-class service was apparent from our first contact through the end of the journey. He went above and beyond to ensure that we had a thoroughly enjoyable time, providing the perfect mix of historical information, cultural experience, and fun throughout the day. I appreciate that he tailored the itinerary to the things that we most wanted to see and made sure we were able to fit in all of those elements. As a local expert, he was able to guide us to the best spots for viewing, touring, dining, and shopping, while avoiding long lines and waits at the more popular attractions. Thank you, David, for a very memorable time!
My husband and I took the Private Sintra, Pena Palace, Cabo da Roca and Cascais Full Day tour with David. It was an absolutely awesome day! David picked us up at our hotel in a roomy sedan (van also available if needed) and drove us to Sintra. He is so knowledgable about the area (he lives in Sintra) and the culture and history of Portugal. We started with the Pena Palace, and David, as a tour guide, is able to get skip the line tickets, so we were the first to enter the palace. Impossible to describe, but a beautiful and interesting place. David also tailored our tour: it was a rainy day, and we decided we'd rather not walk around the gardens of the Quinta da Regaleira in the rain, so we pivoted to the National Palace, which was really interesting, especially the kitchens and the Coat-of-Arms-Room. He took us to a wonderful bakery where we tried travesseiro, the pastry of Sintra. So delicious! From there we headed over to the coast, with David pointing out other interesting sites along the way. We had lunch near Azenhas do Mar (cliffside town-what a view) at a family restaurant, very good and reasonably priced. Last stops were Cabo da Roca, which has a beautiful ocean view at the western-most point of Europe (David knew the spots for the best photos) and Cascais, a beachside town. We then headed back to Lisbon. When we return to Portugal, we will certainly ask David to guide us. Highly recommend David and the What to do in Portugal tour company!
We had a fantastic experience with Daniel on our full day trip to Sintra and Caiscais. Daniel was so kind and knowledgeable about the region and its history. He picked us up from our hotel in Lisbon, then took us to Caiscais and Cabo do Roca, then to Sintra for a delicious lunch at a local restaurant complete with local pastries that he supplied, then to Quinta do Regaleira and Pena Palace. The weather was a little rainy, so he adjusted the schedule of our tour to let us see the most without getting too wet, and of course provided umbrellas. Highly recommend Daniel and this tour company!
Incredible day. Incredible guide. Great hospitality. Lots of memories. David knew the best views of the beach, helped us bypass queues and brought constant energy during the day trip.
Highly recommend this tour! Diana, our guide was so knowledgeable and explained everything so well! We were so glad we took this tour! We saw so many sights. Our photos were incredible with the amazing views! Loved how Diana tailored our tour to our preferences. This was one the best tours we’ve taken.
Pedro was an amazing guide. He catered the day to us and our interests. He took us to food places that are favored by locals. (The food/drinks were delish) ... He allowed us time to roam around each area at our own pace and at the end of the day he hiked back up the hill on his own to retrieve the vehicle; while we enjoyed a glass of wine and waited. At his suggestion, we ended up getting to experience an area that was not originally on the agenda but def worth it. By the time he was done with us, we were ready to pack our bags and move to Cascais :-)
After another tour operator canceled on us at the last minute we scheduled a day trip to Sintra with David and it couldn’t have been better. He worked with us to set up an itinerary and we saw everything we wanted to and then some. Comfortable transportation, easy conversation, and insights and information about the beautiful surroundings of Lisbon. Couldn’t recommend anyone else over this tour operator.
David was a great guide and even though we had bad weather we were able to see so much! Thanks David.
Booking this private tour was a perfect way to see as many sites as possible. David and Carlos were great to work with, they always responded to my request quickly and set up the perfect day for my family (all adults). They took care of all the pre-booking of tickets for the sites, brought us to the perfect place for lunch, and our guide Carlos was a wealth of information and made sure we didn't miss anything en route. Highlight for me was Quinta da Regaleira and Cabo da Roca. My family loved Pena Palace. Thanks to David we were able to change some of the tour options to include a visit to Monserrate Palace. Beautiful Moorish architecture and the gardens were amazing. It was a long day but well worth it! My husband, daughter, son-in-law and I still talk about that day and the places we visited on this tour. Thank you to Carlos and David for providing such a memorable experience.
David is the consummate tour guide - knowledgeable, funny and kind. My family and I learned a great deal about the area and we were able to see so many amazing places in one day.
The tour to Sintra, Cabo de Roca and Cascais was wonderful! Our guide David was amazing! He has expert knowledge of the area and was able to provide in-depth historical info, along with recommendations for wonderful restaurants.
It is difficult to pick one area to describe as our "favorite place we visited" because David truly customized our travels based upon our particular interests such as history and seeing and experiencing the places that the "average" Portuguese people live and socialize. We immediately asked to visit the smaller towns and villages "off the touristy beaten paths" without a beat he changed our path; of course he did not skip places of cultural significance. David's language and social skills allowed entrance in to shops (even some not open yet) so that we could taste the amazing foods, wines, Port and of course the mouth watering desserts - my personal favorite, the fresh from the oven traditional custard tarts. (Please forgive my inability to spell or pronounce the correct traditional names of those gifts from the great Devine!!). David's knowledge of the countryside was impressive alone but then his knowledge of the political and especially the history of the lands, cities, architecture and social changes because of foreign migration and occupation in very early history FAR SURPASSED our expectations. As a world traveler, I can without doubt or hesitation say that David's tour far exceeds ANY OTHER 'tour guide' (that name does not do justice to his level of expertise) that we were fortunate enough to experience! We are already planning a second trip to Portugal and hope to be able to hire his services again, By the end of the tour, it felt that we had moved from "clients" to friends. David's transportation equipment and wonderfully accommodating personality as well as educational experience is second to none. My deepest and warmest regards to Mr. David Monteiro as well as my and my family's HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!!
This is our second tour in Portugal with the same company. We know we are in good hands when we are with David, our guide. He just can’t wait to show his guests the amazing sceneries of Portugal. Sintra is so fairytale like, with its winding narrow mountain roads, cobbled alleyways, castle walls, and medieval style buildings. We felt like we were transported to a fairytale world. Definitely a must visit when you go to Portugal. As in our first tour, David brought us to a superb restaurant for lunch, one that is definitely a favorite with the locals in the area, and where the food is fresh and tasty. We had a taste of hearty and satisfying local dishes. On the way back to our hotel in Portugal, David took the trouble to take us to his favorite custard tart shop. He wanted us to have a taste of the tart from one of the most famous shops in Lisbon. It’s just like him to want his guests to experience as much as he can offer them. Highly recommend this tour.
Knowledgeable, fun, entertaining... what more can you ask for in a guide? Oh... yeah, let's add that he saved us from waiting in lines and directed us to more activities that resulted in time better spent. Sure, he would take us to the most popular sites (the ones with the really long lines) if we wished, but why would we when there are less crowded, yet equally impressive, sights to see? If you want a private tour that isn't just another scripted tour bus affair, you can't go wrong here. Absolutely loved the tour and would use him again if/when we get back to Portugal.
David is very knowledgeable, took us to authentic places, was never in a rush and always trying to show us the local touches of the city. We had an unforgettable tour with him in Sintra and then drove all the way to Cascais where we had very nice stops on the way. Davis is very professional, always positive and clearly is passionate about his job
If you want to know charming places, I advise you to take this tour hand in hand with our guide: David. Let him guide you and I'm sure you will enjoy the most with a tourism professional. Excellent.
