Chef Samara was fantastic and we enjoyed learning with her. The overall experience however was lacking from what we have done on other such tours. On those, each of us got to make each dish from provided recipes. Here, while one person was making dessert and another was making soup, they could not see what each other was doing. So we didn’t know what was in each dish or how it was made.

We had a really enjoyable evening at Cooking Lisbon. The space is super cute and welcoming, and Chef Samara and Fernanda were super friendly, accommodating and generous throughout the evening. Samara is clearly very passionate and knowledgeable about Portuguese food and took time to explain the dishes and traditions behind them. The menu gave us a good introduction to traditional Portuguese cooking. The tempura green beans were my favorite! We also made Bacalhau com Natas and tomato rice. Both had good flavor, although for us they were a little too liquid/runny. The menu was also quite sausage-heavy, and being in Portugal I would have loved to cook some more seafood such as octopus, prawns or sardines. Portions overall were very generous, as were the wine and other beverages. The only exception was the chicken, where unfortunately there wasn’t quite enough for everyone in our group to have a piece. My biggest suggestion would be to make the experience more hands-on. We had a small group, so I expected that we’d each be doing quite a bit of the actual preparation and cooking. We did participate, but Chef Samara handled more of the cooking than I expected. I would have loved to get more involved and learn by actually making more of the dishes ourselves. Overall, a lovely atmosphere, fantastic hospitality and a nice introduction to Portuguese cuisine. With a little more hands-on cooking and perhaps some more seafood on the menu, it would have been an even better experience.
Chef Sylvia was wonderful with background, techniques, and clear instructions. Loved the hands-on participation and wine / charcuterie.
Chef Samara was our lead for the wonderful evening learning about Portuguese Cuisine. She provided an excellent experience with a strong knowledge and passion for the menu. Highly recommend this to anyone that enjoys great food paired with good wine and delightful staff.
We had a great time! Samara was our instructor and she made the class seem like it was just a group of friends cooking and sharing a great Portuguese meal. Learned, laughed, drank, nibbled and ate. Do not even snack before you go, because there is an abundance of food.
Angela is an amazing teacher, explains things so well and is so warm and welcoming! I was having a stressful day before I got here and this class melted away my worries and made my trip better :) The other members taking the class were so fun and good natured too! Best cooking class ever I would 1000% book this again and again! Learned SO much. Obrigada Angela!
Had a great time at this cooking class making classic Portuguese food! We were there with the instructor and 3 guests. Everyone got involved to whatever capacity they wanted with a lot of guidance.
Great experience, was fun and actually did the prep and cooking. Got to take away all the recipes which are easy and delicious. Highly recommend
This was such a great cooking class! Sylvia the chef was patient and helpful when giving the instructions. It was a small group of two, so we had more opportunities to prep the food and cook it. It was very hands on. It felt like having dinner with friends! The food turned out delicious and eating it in the end was our reward. I highly recommend this tour.
Such a fun evening with friends doing a Portuguese cooking class! We cooked so many things and had a feast at the end. The instructor was very patient and did a great job of explaining everything! We were provided wine and a charcuterie to snack on while cooking and gifted an apron at the end. This is such a great way to sample a variety of local foods while visiting with friends! Highly recommend!
We had a great time learning to cook typical Portuguese dishes. They were tasty and it was a very enjoyable experience preparing the food and sitting down to eat with a diverse group of people. The wine, cheese, chorizo, bread and olives beforehand meant we were not hungry whilst preparing the food or waiting for it to cook. Angela is an excellent host and teacher. I would highly recommend this experience.
If you like to be a part of the cooking experience then this class is for you. No matter what cooking skill level you are, you were contributing to the dinner. The chef was engaging and helpful. The whole meal was yummy. Even making mayonnaise from scratch. Highly recommend this class.
I have requested the recipes from the class THREE times now and the operator still hasn't despondent. That being said Renata was lovely, patient, attentive and knowledgeable.
Amazing and so fun! The teacher was great and we were average cooks at best, but he didn’t let us mess anything up! Would totally recommend.
Great assortment of traditional Portuguese foods and explanation of flavors. The cheese, bread, end, and chorizo to start were a nice touch. The group was expertly divided to cover making 7 different dishes from mains, to sides and sauces, to desert. We were all very full by the end of the night. Loved that we got the recipes to take with us and make again at home!
I had a great time learning to make dishes from Portugal. I enjoyed the teacher and the people from the class. This is definatly something that I would recommend. Also the food that we cooked was awesome!
Hands-on class taught several helpful cooking tips to take home, along with the recipes. Enjoyed every course and three wine choices.
Loved this cooking class! Renata began the class by offering us our ‘survival kit’ of cheeses, olives, seared chorizo, breads, jams and of course free flowing green wine! Apparently the Portuguese way is not to begin cooking on an empty stomach! The dishes we made were delicious and Renata expertly coordinated our group to share the prepping and cooking with efficiency at the same time as teaching us little tricks and tips! I would highly recommend this class to anyone - even if you are not a confident cook! We will definitely be making our recipes when we return home.
This was an amazing class! The kitchen was very big and clean, and what surprised me most was being served a ‘survival kit’ at the start of the class - wine, cheeses, smoked chorizo, olives so that ‘we wouldn’t stay hungry even if our dishes didn’t turn out well’ (obviously didn’t happen). We didn’t get to know what dishes we were going to be made beforehand as the cooking school has a large repertoire of recipes and the ultimate selection will be based on the cooking instructor. In total, we cooked 8 dishes and participants were responsible for 1 or 2 of the dishes unlike other classes I’ve attended where everyone cooks their own share of all the dishes. Philippa was a great instructor and host. She provided clear instructions and even provided a short history about the origins/ background of each dish we were cooking, and had an amazing ability to multi task given that she had 8 dishes to oversee.
Cooking Lisbon is a must! Rinata made our experience so fun! Upon arrival, she greeted us with a big warm smile and we immediately felt like family. We started with a sampling of cheeses and bread and lots of wine prior to cooking our meal. We moved on to our 4 cooking stations and proceeded to make an entire 4 course meal from soup to dessert. We enjoyed every morsel of our meal and continued to enjoy Rinata’s bubbly personality and lots more wine for us. We highly recommend fitting this into your busy Lisbon adventure!
This was amazing. We made several dishes and a dessert. We got to keep the apron. Met some other wonderful travellers and I learned how to separate an egg and that I've been preparing garlic incorrectly in a frying pan my whole life!
One of the highlights of our recent trip was a cooking class in Lisbon at Cooking Lisbon! With our amazing chef Roberta, we created a wonderful authentic Portuguese meal. Our experience beginning with our personalized group booking with Filipe to eating our freshly made dinner with Roberta was exceptional. A great venue with lots of good food, good wine and wonderful friends, can’t ask for anything more!
Very nice time. Pedro was great. There were 15 people in the group. We all worked together and had different jobs prepping and cooking the several courses including dessert. It would have been better with less people but still a very good time. The recipes and meal was great. Plenty of wine and he shares the recipe for you to try later.
Dear Guy and Alberta, thank you for the wonderful experience of learning the basics of Portugese cooking . We very much enjoyed your in-depth knowledge on both the (cultural) history of the dishes (I will always remember where tempura comes from) as well as the techniques on preparing successful Portugese dishes . Best regards Johanna and Harm
As part of our group tour, we did a cooking class/dinner at Cooking Lisbon. Everyone in the group loved it and the food was delicious to boot. This isn't a quick, fly through class. The chefs give you detailed instructions, allow you to get hands on for your meal and then you get to eat up all of this deliciousness. In addition to the food, the wine will be flowing too. This is a great experience while in Lisboa and you shouldn't miss it.
I love to cook. I attended many cooking class and I was recommended this one by my client. They were a big group and had a lot of dishes. I read that the class is not recommend for vegetarians. I believe we always find sth to eat. Our group was very small and I believe that is the reason why there were less dishes. To my surprise there were 2 chicken dishes. I left hungry even though there was an aperitif in the begining which I liked. Our chef Felipa was super friendly I just felt I did not learn really any cooking hacks. The kitchen was amazing. I hope everyone washed their hands before class… I would skip this since I left hungry and really did not learn sth exciting.
Pedro was an excellent chef to work with. We loved our experience and would highly recommend. One of the highlights of our trip to Lisbon. Wine selection is also delicious!
We love doing cooking classes when we travel and this was another great experience. Pedro was wonderful and the food was delicious. We were a bit skeptical when we heard the menu, but every dish was delicious and we loved meeting other guests and cooking together. Highly recommend!
This was the second time we booked this. My husband and I loved it so much last time we were in Lisbon, we decided to experience it again. The atmosphere and food are really fun. Would highly recommend to couples or friends looking for a fun night!
We enjoyed this experience and the food was delicious. However, we would suggest focusing on 1 or 2, at most 3 dishes so that the group can learn how to make the dishes. The group was stationed doing certain tasks for 5 or 6 dishes and we didn't feel like we learned how to make any particular dish. That being said, our instructor did a great job of balancing everything and making sure the meal turned out nice. We did enjoy the food, the wine and the snacks pre cooking.
Terrific experience. We enjoyed learning how to make traditional food and Interacting with our host Ana as well as the other class participants. Very well managed and food was delicious. We’ll do another class on our next trip for sure!
We had so much fun! Chef Ana was very personable and passionate about connecting with her clients. She even shared a link to all her recipes. Everyone pitched in and got to know each other. She served appetizers and white wine throughout the experience. Definitely recommend to anyone that’s new to Portugal.
This Portuguese cooking class experience was excellent! I highly recommend it. Chef Paulo and assistant Fernanda are amazing. Paulo is a great teacher, and he's funny too! Wine and appetizers are provided throughout, in addition to the amazing meal we all helped create - many delicious dishes!
The hands on experiences with use of simple ingredients and ease of use. The instructor we had was outstanding.
It was a fun evening. We started with wine and appetizers before we started making dinner. We learned a lot, had fun and made a big dinner. The chef was so nice and taught us a lot. The food was really good and the wine paired well too.I enjoyed the time meeting the other couples. I am so glad we signed up for this Portuguese Experience!
It’s a great way to learn about the food in Portugal! The chef who taught was wonderful. Thorough, went over all components, then each person had a job and together we all made the entire meal! Plenty of food to go around. Great way to meet others from all over world! Highly recommend!!
It was a great experience. Joana was very communicative, nice and immediately created a good atmosphere. Dishes were relatively easy to made and very tasty. And I really appreciated that later we had a family-style dinner, sip the wine and were able to sit, talk and have fun till late. Loved this <3
I thoroughly enjoyed our cooking experience with Yvonne! She taught us several tips for cooking. Our group of 12 participated in helping to prepare the delicious meal. There was plenty to eat with lots of wine to accompany, making for a fabulous night out of wining and dining. Thank you Yvonne!
Paulo created an incredibly interactive and fun environment for the entire class. The food was great. The hot sauce was incredible. And there was plenty of wine to go around. I'd do this again in a heartbeat.
We had a great experience and really learned some good tips about about Portuguese cooking. Our Chef was very knowledgeable and he made the cooking class a lot of fun! The other attendees were really enjoyable too. We would definitely do another class with this Chef. Highly recommended!
Paulo and his crew were great hosts and instructors for the evening. They created a lively and fun learning environment for the dishes we prepared. The process was very engaging and interactive and the meal we created collectively was fantastic! Would highly recommend this class if you’re a foodie or someone who is passionate about cooking.
The glass was a lot of fun! The dishes were delicious and the instructors lovely. We loved sipping on vinho verde as we cooked. We really enjoyed the experience and would do it again in a heartbeat.
What a lovely way to spend an evening with strangers, soon becoming your friends… Good conversation, good food, good time.
Our instructor, Paul did a great job managing everyone's tasks to bring together a unique variety of delicious dishes. Paul was fun and personable and shared a lot of knowledge with us. The facility was very professional and clean. Highly recommend this experience!
The groups was lots of fun and the food was delicious! Recommend leaving your coat on the rack outside of the kitchen or you will smell like fried cod for the rest of your time in Lisbon.
We had a fantastic time cooking, meeting new friends and enjoying the hospitality of our cooking instructors. I would recommend this great experience.
Great teacher. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learned a lot about Portuguese food. Recommend.
My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Lucillia got everyone involved with a job and was there to provide guidance along the way. We prepared a wonderful feast of 6 different dishes including cod, chicken and beef. The chef accommodated a traveller with a gluten free diet on the fly! We had so much fun with the people participating in the class. It was a delicious meal that we were happy to share with our leader Lucillia and new friends. With so many dishes and components, the steps were all happening simultaneously, so you didn't really get the full picture of how everything was prepared. But I'm sure the recipes will give the necessary explanation. It was the best way to spend an evening in Lisbon!
Lucilia and Fernanda were the best! This was so much fun and so enjoyable. I hesitated on going as I was traveling alone but they made everyone feel included. Just one of the best parts of my trip to Lisbon. Fun, fun, fun! Thank you both! Sincerely, Dana
Wonderful experience with the folks at the school. Friendly, informative demonstrations, and a wonderful balance of freedom to work on our own and stepping in to help. The food we prepped tasted delish in the end and it was comforting knowing that we could possibly make this on our own. Highly recommend.
