What looks so simple was quite difficult for this non baker. Our baking teacher emphasized preciseness in a fun and lively exchange. Those with prior baking skills fared better. Taking cooking classes in a foreign city promotes instant camaraderie.
This was a great hands-on workshop! Filipa was a wonderful host and instructor; she included bits of historical and cultural information into it and was exceptionally personable.
So much fun and informative! The finished goodies were delicious. We loved the instructor and the pastry shop in which we took the class.
Really instructive class (7 of us) on how to make both the puff pastry and the cream custard filling from scratch. Phillipa was fearsome in keeping us all right as we took turns to create and roll the pastry without destroying the layers. Moulding the pastry to the tins was also a skill. However the results were delicious and I so enjoyed the class. I ate both of my pastel de natas.
The class was a great to learn about this delicious Portuguese pastry. We had no idea what went into making the pastry. Our family had a lot of fun doing this activity!
Both this class and the bakery were delightful. Great way to learn the secrets of creating traditional Pastel de Nata, and gain baking skills and friends along the way. Filipa (and helper, Beatrix), we thank you for a fun and delicious day!
This was a very fun way to learn hands on about the cultural connection of Pastel De Nata, as well as make our very own. The instructor was so friendly and very funny. We laughed through the process, and got to enjoy the results. A small and unique experience
I attended the cooking class with my son and his partner. Felipe was very detailed in her instructions. i didn’t realize how much work was involved in making these delicious pastries. She helped us with all the techniques. and they came out perfect. she was very friendly and gave us a great recommendation for dinner. The class is a bit pricey, but i’m not sure another one would be as detailed.
I’ll never be a professional pastry chef, but our instructor was and she made it LOOK so easy! We learned that making Portugal’s National Pastry is very much an art. Our instructor Filipa made moving the dough without breaking it look effortless, but we needed a lot more practice! The class was very informative, hands on and ended with eating the results of our efforts. We gained a real appreciation for the Pastel de Nata considering some of the process must be done by hand even for the pastry shops selling thousands a day. (We did everything by hand.) Filipa Is a pro and guides us through process, explaining every step and correcting our mistakes without making us feel bad for them. It was a very fun thing to do!
Filipa taught us how to make the Portuguese Tart from scratch. Showed us all the techniques necessary to successfully make them. She was passionate, patient and corrected us when we were not following her instructions. It was worth every cent. We would have paid double the cost to gain the knowledge and techniques she passed on during the class. Thank you Filipa.
Loved it! I highly recommend this class taught by Filipa. I am going to prepare these as a dessert dish at Thanksgiving.
A tricky class, but definitely worth it! Filipa was an amazing teacher and showed a lot of passion for her craft. The experience was more than just about the food.
My kids really got to learn about making custard tarts, from start to finish. While being in a group meant they weren't always active, it kept their interest and they learned a lot. The teacher modified her approach to make it work for participants different from the usual adults, which was greatly appreciated.
Such a warm, inviting cafe, the host was absolutely a gem! Worth the visit and definitely worth learning the local pastry! Delicious and tasty and the host makes it that much sweeter!!
This was one of my trip highlights to Lisbon. It was great to actually make pastel de nata and appreciate how much work goes into creating them. The host/ owner was friendly and had a lot of patience. Would recommend this to anyone who enjoys pastel de nata.
This was a fun way to learn how to make pastel de nata. It was a team effort so we got to know and became friendly with the other participants. Also, these may have been the best pastel de nata we had during our entire trip!
We had a great time learning how to bake the pastel de nata from Filipa! The class was informative, fun, and intimate, and the final product was delicious! During my stay in Lisbon I tried a few different pastel de natas in town, and the ones we made were my favorite! This will be a lovely memory I'll share with my partner.
What a fantastic mom and daughter experience. Cannot wait to try and make these again at home! Can't beat making them yourself.
We really enjoyed our cooking class with Filipa! The final desert was amazing! Thank you so much Filipa for your kindness and for this wonderful experience, we will never forget it!
We loved the experience. Filipe was so kind and we loved learning how to make Pastel de Nata. Highly recommend this experience.
The class was very fun and informative. We had a great time and really enjoyed the experience. The host was kind and interactive.
Was an excellent class and experience. The teacher is very knowledgeable and fantastic at showing you the techniques. Very confident that after a few tries we will be able to make them at home!
Great class, host went over minute techniques/details while explaining the process and made us feel welcome as people with little to no experience. Had a delicious time
So fun, thoroughly hands on! Fun process, Andy, delicious results. We also had time to chat about local recommendations and meet new travelers.
This was a great experience learning how the Pastel de Nata is made. It’s a great pastry shop in a great location. Our teacher was really fun, friendly, and patient with our group. I highly recommend it.
Highly recommend. We had a lot of fun with Filipa and got to try our pastel de natas at the end of the class. Filipa was accommodating of our schedule.
There are many pastel de nata classes offered, but we feel lucky to have stumbled upon the perfect one! Filipa is a wonderful hostess and baker. She taught us how to make the puff pastry and the filling from scratch, and subsequently emailed us the recipe. We had many pasteis de natas in our 10 days in Portugal, but we unanimously agree these were the best tasting ones by far! A lot of the big shops are almost 100% machine made, but ours were fully from scratch. Delicious! You will love this tiny bakery and experience :)
This class was amazing! I traveled with my mother to Lisbon and signed up for this activity. It was a small group of six of us working together to make pastel de nata. Filipa, the owner of the bakery and instructor was extremely warm and friendly. She took an interest in our lives and provided various recommendations of where to visit while in Lisbon. She told us about the history of the Pastel de Nata and taught us hands on baking techniques to make the best pastel de nata. The finished product was DELICIOUS! Thank you Filipa for teaching us. I can’t wait to make pastel de nata on my own at home!
Filipa was knowledgable and friendly - it was a good experience and the ensuing pastel Nata delicious.
This was my husband's favorite part of the whole trip to Portugal! The pastel de nata class was really engaging; it is amazing to see how the chef made everything look so easy but it was actually super hard. She was very encouraging and encouraged questions. Afterwards, we got to eat a lot of the pastels when they were fresh from the oven. We also talked a lot about every day life in Portugal. As far as the location, this is right by a castle so we were able to go pop in for some additional sight seeing basically immediately after.
What a great experience! This is a small group experience where we were in a group of six learning to make Pastel de Nata. The class takes place in a nice cafe led by Filipa who is a great teacher and engages the whole group in the process. This is a fun and educational experience that ends with a delicious taste of your efforts. It's hard to beat fresh baked Pastel de Nata. The group interaction is fun as well. To be clear, each person gets to perform parts of the process but you do not make your own Pastel de Nata entirely from scratch. It is a group exercise where everyone gets a turn to be hands on for different steps. Highly recommend this as a fun activity while in Lisbon!
Filipa was a wonderful instructor. She made everyone feel welcome and challenged us all to make the most tasty Pastel de Nata ever!
