Multicultural Lisbon Walk: Food Tastings, Stories & Live Music

The tour exceeded my expectations. Teddy is dedicated to making sure you're getting everything out of the experience. We visited different towns around Lisbon and everyone knew who he was, which says a lot about his character. The people were welcoming and the tastings did not disappoint! We saw the sunset from one of the highest points, enjoyed live music (Samba!) and had a wonderful dinner at a Cape Verdian restaurant. It was my birthday and they sang Happy Birthday in Portuguese. Overall, highly recommend! I even got photos and videos that Teddy was kind enough to take for me as a solo traveler. Book the tour! It was amazing. Also, wear comfortable sneakers.

Each year I come back to Lisbon, I join Teddy on his tours and they are always a lot of fun and multicultural. In one night, we got to hear authentic Fado music in a small lcal Fado restaurant, and Brazilian samba at a local hangout where all the Brazilians gather and sing their hearts out! Sometimes, we experience magical moments- with Teddy we experienced 2 full days of wonderment and magic! Yes we saw landmarks and history, but more than that we met people and went to places that represented the fabric of Lisbon! Teddy introduced us to what he is passionate about, and also tailored the tour to what we are passionate about. Culture; real local culture and people, why and how they came to be in Lisbon, and how they thrive. Teddy introduced us and immersed us in those cultures, including food, music, dance, art and human connection. The sounds and smells and history of Lisbon. Beyond that, we became part of Teddy’s tour family, joining part of his tour ( with permission) the next day and having a previous visitor tour part of a dance evening with us. Teddy was an absolute delight to say the least. Because of this experience I experienced Lisbon in a way that I imagine very few tourists would. The tour is an incredible way to see Lisbon through a local and multiethnic lens celebrating the incredible diversity of Lisbon. Teddy is so knowledgable and really tailored the experience to all of us in the group. Highlights included exploring Graça's incredible art, fado history, secret gardens/ club spaces and sunsets to experiencing local cuisines ( capo verde/ bengali/ Portuguese) showcasing Lisbon's incredible diversity and ending with a trip to a Brazilian bar to watch Mexican music. Teddy has such an incredible relationship and warmth with the local Lisbon communities we visited and this added to our overall experience and richness of the tour. It's a must do tour to experience Lisbon " of the beaten track" and really connect with local culture.

Teddy was an amazing tour guide. I traveled solo, and I had the opportunity to explore areas of the city I never would have experienced on my own. My tour was filled with street art, beautiful views, live music, and l enjoyed treats and a couple of cocktails along the way. Teddy catered this experience to my interests, and I had a great time as I was breaking in my birthday. He also took great photos and shared them with me. Teddy also provides great recommendations for other places and activities to explore in Lisbon, so my only advice would be to book this excursion early in your trip and wear good walking shoes for this tour.

The Lisbon Multicultural Walk was the absolute highlight of my trip in Lisbon! Amarens was incredible, making the evening feel deeply personal, welcoming, and authentic. This was an incredible tour -- the best I've experienced in all my travels in Europe. I unequivocally recommend it. It was the last night of my third visit to Lisbon, and I chose this tour because I wanted to try something new and see a different side of the city before I left. Teddy revealed a whole new side of Lisbon to us -- secret bars, homey restaurants, and local haunts that never showed up on any online recommendations and were free from tourists. He immersed us into new neighborhoods and the diasporic subcultures that make Lisbon so vibrant, sharing stories and histories that opened up my perspective of Portugal and South Europe more broadly. We danced along to a Fado session; we snuggled next to musicians in secret clubs as they sang Portuguese classics. It was the night of a lifetime. Yet what made this tour so special was Teddy's particular warmth and hospitality. His convivial spirit created a sense of openness and serendipity that led to a special experience. An excellent and curious conversationalist, Teddy led our small group to develop an intimate connection over the course of the evening that grew organically. As I continue my travels, I am searching to find more experiences like this in other cities -- but so far, my search has only led me back to this exceptional night. Wow!! I'm so glad I booked this tour on my first day in Lisbon. What a great way to start the trip. Teddy is extremely knowledgeable and really takes you off the beaten path. He's really the grandson of Lisbon. He is well connected to the right people who make you feel like you're family, the moment you meet them. This experience completely changed how I saw Lisbon on my very first day there. Teddy is like Lisbon's best friend! he knows the mom-and-pop shops and family-run restaurants by name, hugging owners as we walked in. Some spots have been family-run for 40 years, welcoming us with small bites and drinks made by their own hands, from traditional Portuguese to Bangladeshi flavors! All types of cuisine and cultures. We had live music, great energy, and Teddy's gift for making us all strangers feel connected and become instant friends! This is the real, local, non-touristy Lisbon that you would never find on Google. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the city!

So how can i put in words my experience in this tour? Ill start with the way Teddy introduced himself(Guide) before we started the tour really he wants to get to know each one of you, so its a more intimate experience and also , i wont tell more so i wont spoil it. Overall i felt it's truly is a local multicultural experience because you walk through many streets around the area and you feel and you see and talk with so many different different cultural and people from different nationalities all integrated in the same community, what i felt was that Teddy didn't just talk and show you the typical mainstream themes that turism gets, there is awareness from the current situation also so you can understand some of the perpective of the people that live in the area, when i did the tour it was really fun it was a very famous portuguese traditional celebrations called the Saint Anthony Festival the streets were crowed, he managed himself really well, so i recommend this tour for who is willing to really get to know the hidden gems in Lisbon and you will get to know them in this tour. We had our tour during a major Lisbon holiday and Teddy had to adjust for the situation. He let us know going in and did a great job of taking us around areas of Lisbon most tourists won’t see. Every single place was a hidden gem. A lot of tours advertise that, but Teddy delivers. He even extended the tour for a few of us who wanted to go to his favorite spot. He went way above what is expected and gave us 2 extra hours of his time. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes to explore new neighborhoods and see a more authentic side of Lisbon.

You could not get a more helpful & thoughtful guide than Teddy. He spent over 6 hours with just me and my daughter showing us many interesting aspects of multicultural Lisbon. One of the most packed and really mesmerising experiences I had in Lisbon. The tour was full of information, stories, history, culture, and so many things to see, but what made it really special was the way Teddy guided us through hidden corners of the city that I would have never discovered on my own. We explored tiny streets, local bars, authentic restaurants, and beautiful little spots that felt completely outside the usual tourist routes, although somehow in the middle of the city. It felt like being shown the real soul of Lisbon by someone who loves and understands the city. I also really appreciated 2 important things: the fact we were just 4 participants made the experience feel very intimate and each of us could feel seen, and also, the spiritual and environmentally conscious approach of the experience! It gave the whole tour a deeper and more meaningful atmosphere. And the ending… the African restaurant with live music and the hidden place (I will not tell more, you need to discover it yourselves), were absolutely unbelievable. This is a truly magical experience. Teddy takes us on a journey full of discoveries and stories about a lesser known part of Lisbon. I lived here for four years and have never been to some of the places he has taken us. It's a mixture of information, stories, entertainment in very nice locations (authentic bars and restaurants). I have learned during my time in Lisbon that the city is a melting pot of different cultures. This tour is an immersive experience into several of those cultures. Teddy, our guide, had a way of connecting with the group and helping the group connect with each other and all his friends along the way. There was lots of food, drinks, views, and laughs. We experienced places we would never have found on our own and left with our hearts and minds a little more open.

A very interesting and culturally diverse look at several neighborhoods in Lisbon. We met and talked to a wide variety of people that we would not have been able to meet had we not been on the tour. This is not a tour to see the top sites in the city, but an experience with people who live and work in the city. We found some very out of the mainstream places to eat bites and have a drink.

This was such a unique experience. I’m usually not a tour person, but this experience was completely different. It didn’t feel like a tour at all. It felt like being invited into the real Lisbon. What a dream! Great route with lots of insight into different areas of knowledge about the city from older/modern history, art, politics and an overall open edge for human connection during the. At the same time it felt possible to go into unexpected journeys and follow intuition. We went from very raw to top rated tradicional Portuguese establishments while walking through Mouraria and Graça neighborhoods. Teddy knows all the secrets and details about it and the locals know him too. When occasionally passing by a more touristy place (which was definitely not a constant) we were driven to unexpected secret spots. In another way, no secrets kept about political issues and the influences of tourism, inflation and local communities. Rare to have this kind of insight on a guided tour hahah... Raw! The light just became more and more beautiful over the afternoon culminating on a couple of high point views over the city.......at sunset... Then we delved into multicultural areas (which is a core part of it) African, Asian and Latin American communities/influences. Again, solid choices for music, dancing, views, food, diversity, people, family business, some hidden jams and also some jokes.
