The Pena Palace and Park, in Sintra, make a fantastic day trip from Lisbon. The colorful 19th-century Romanticist castle sits high up on a hill with stunning panoramic views out to the ocean and is a highlight for many visitors to Portugal.
Moving forward through the road of Pena towards Penedo, a charming village in the Serra de Sintra (Sintra Mountain), absolutely out of the touristic circuits that will surprise you.Accompanied by the wonderful landscape of the National Park of Sintra-Cascais and the marvelous views of the Castelo dos Mouros (Moorish Castle) and of the Palácio da Pena (Pena Palace), which is always in your field of vision wherever you go
Cascais is the premier holiday destination of the Lisbon coastline. This is a traditional and charming Portuguese fishing town, which has responsibly developed into a popular resort town.
Estoril is a stylish and sophisticated resort town, on the beautiful Costa do Estoril coastline. The town strikes the perfect balance between Portuguese charm and outstanding tourist facilities, to create the ideal destination if you want more than just great beaches for your holiday.

Mario was a great guide, learnt a lot about Portuguese history and saw so many sights! This tour does squeeze a lot into a day so you don't get much time to explore at your leisure but if, like us, you want a greatest hits tour of the region then this is a great pick 😃
It was amazing tour. Many thanks to our guide Markos for detailed explanations of the historical places which we visited.
We had a wonderful experience! Everything we visited was absolutely fascinating! Every single place was worth seeing. 100% worth it! Our guide, Gui, was incredibly dedicated, enthusiastic, and involved throughout the tour! Just a heads-up: the route is quite challenging, with lots of hills and steep climbs. But trust me, it’s totally worth it!
We had a wonderful experience exploring Sintra and Cascais! Everything was well organized, and our guide Gui was super friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole day really enjoyable. We visited some beautiful places and had a great time. Highly recommended!
I like it. The guide is very good
We had a great time on the tour today. Mario the guide was funny, well-informed and took time to build relationships with all of the guests. Bravo!
Marcos and Mario are the most responsible and funny team! They are knowledgeable and making sure everyone is having fun but most importantly safe! Learn a lot of Portugese history and cultures from the duet :)
Marcos and Mario was wery friendly, answered any questions we asked, excellent time management
Great day with Mario, lots to see and great photos to be taken.
Marcos was a fantastic guide! Always there to answer our questions, providing really deep details around Portuguese history!
The guide (Mario G., Lanetoues) wasn’t able to adjusted and managed the trip. It caused us uncomfortable for this trip.
Thanks to our tour guide, Lili, and our driver, Silva. The ride and the tour were very enjoyable. We gained a lot of insight.
I have enjoyed this tour to Sintra with - Lili and Silva - they were very nice, well organized and attentive
Lili was good. He was informative.
Marco was an outstanding guide and made the day incredibly enjoyable. His knowledge of the area and the history brought everything to life. Plus, he looked out for each and every one of us.
Absolutely fantastic tour! Everything was perfectly organised, and the whole experience was amazing. A special shoutout to Marcos, who was an outstanding guide! Super friendly, funny, knowledgeable, and genuinely cool. He made the entire day great with his energy and sense of humor. Highly recommended!
The trip experience was very good, Our guide was very helpful and knowledgeable. Would recommend for this trip.
A great tour to explore Sintra and its main attractions all in one day! ✨ Lili was a very friendly and kind guide who shared lots of interesting information with us. Just keep in mind that there is quite a bit of walking involved, but it’s definitely worth it! 😊
The trip was very good. We visited a lot of places and the tour guide Mario was lovely and informative.
Marcos was able to teach us a lot about the history and made sure we had a good time! He knows the best roads to take, the best places to take pictures and is able to explain everything in English as well. What more can you ask for?
Five stars. One of the best day trips we have taken, largely thanks to our excellent guide, Marcos from Lane Tours. We started in Cascais under clear blue skies, strolling the marina and beach town before heading to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe. The wind there was intense but the cliffside views were unforgettable. Then came the surprise of the day. Driving into Sintra felt like entering a different country. The sunny weather vanished and was replaced by cool air, wind, fog, and a misty rain, Sintra's famous microclimate at work. Marcos explained this is completely normal given how the hills trap Atlantic moisture. Rather than dampening the mood, it made Quinta da Regaleira feel genuinely magical, with fog drifting through the gardens, towers, and the Initiatic Well. Pena Palace was the grand finale, and we were glad we included the interiors. The ornate rooms and royal history, combined with the misty backdrop against the palace's vivid colors, made it feel like stepping into a fairy tale. Marcos kept the entire day punctual and smoothly organized despite covering four major stops. He was knowledgeable, warm, and adjusted pacing effortlessly as the weather shifted. Highly recommend this tour, and definitely ask for Marcos if he is available.
Marcos, our guide with Lanetours, did an excellent job! He was extremely knowledgeable, articulate, and informative. We had plenty of time to see and enjoy everything we came for without feeling rushed. During the bus rides, he shared many interesting facts about the people, culture, and country, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Marcos was also very attentive and always made sure everyone in the group was accounted for before moving on to the next stop. His thoughtfulness and professionalism helped make the entire tour smooth, comfortable, and enjoyable. Thank you, Marcos, for such a wonderful experience! We truly appreciated your knowledge, care, and dedication to making our tour so memorable. Joe and Annie
We had an unforgettable day tour visiting Quinta da Regaleira, Pena Palace, Cabo da Roca, and Cascais! Everything was exceptionally well-organized, smooth, and timed perfectly so we could enjoy each spot without feeling rushed. A special thanks to our guide, Mario, who truly made the day extra special. He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, energetic, and shared so many insightful stories and history about every location. You can tell he really loves what he does!
Pedro and Cesar the driver were excellent. We had a wonderful tour. Pedro was very nice and very accommodating.. He helps us so much. We love it!! Thank you so much!!! Highly recommend…
Lilly and Clay were fantastic. Lilly kept everyone informed and made sure we all came back. Great day!
I was very disappointed about this tour. It started out with the fact that I didn’t receive information about the pick-up time shifting to 8:30am from 8:00am until after midnight the night before the trip when I was obviously asleep. Therefore I went to the location by 7:45am as instructed before and realized there upon checking my emails that I had to wait for nearly an hour. Upon the bus's arrival, the tour guide was kind of stressed out because the rest of the group was picked up at another location as there were two options offered when booking. She told me that “her office called me this morning and I hung up” whereas nobody called me, I double-checked and I didn’t even have a missed call, let alone talking to someone. I told her that I didn't talk to anyone but she insisted in a rather rude way that I had hung up. We started the tour and as she was talking about the itinerary, I realized that there was a location that wasn't mentioned in the tour description or the itinerary at all: Qinta da Regaleria. It wouldn't have been a problem but it turned out that I didn't have a ticket for it as out of the two ticket options I chose the one that didn't include this. Now, the two options were this: 1. Pena Palace Gardens, 2. Pena Palace and Gardens. Apparently, the latter meant Qinta da Regaleria palace as well... how is one supposed to know that when there's literally no mention of the palace on the tour's page? I wanted to visit the palace but since it wasn't not on the itinerary, I had no idea that the "Pena Palace and Gardens" ticket would include it. This confusion not only caused me to miss out on the palace, it also caused me to have nearly 3 hours of free time on my own in Sintra, where the palace was. The options were named absolutely misleading and it should have been mentioned that if you're opting for option 1, you'll have considerable free time on your own. Altogether, I'm very dissatisfied about the communication (the lack of thereof, really) and how it all was handled.
We had a wonderful time with Mario! Great knowledge and love the small story behind the curtain, we enjoyed it very much, great work!
Lili was a fantastic guide! He knows all the best places and is also great at recommending cafés and restaurants. What really stood out was how kind and empathetic he was—he helped one lady carry her backpack and even walked a couple of kilometres back down to find another lady who had gotten lost. He genuinely went above and beyond to make sure everyone was safe and comfortable.
Had a great time with the tour; it was well worth it. Our guides, Marcos and Mario, were very informative and helpful throughout the trip. Highly recommended tour if you’re in Portugal.
Every guidebook lists Sintra as a “must do” sidetrip from Lisbon. To be sure, Pena palace is beautiful and worth visiting. But consider whether it is really worth a 10 hour bus trip, with hordes of other tourists (even on a weekday in late September), that will mostly be spent driving, or stopping at other sites you may not care about (e.g., Cascais) or waiting for your timed ticket for the palace to start. With regard to this particular operator - the bus boarding pickup was chaotic (same place as dozens of other operators). Even though we signed up for an English trip, we had to listen to everything repeated in Portuguese. And even though we bought all the tickets available to us, some on our tour had extra tickets to Regaleira (meaning we had to bum around in the village of Sintra for nearly 2 hours while they did their tour), and some did not have Pena palace inside tickets, which just created confusion at the entry point. Everyone on a tour should have the same tickets and access! I feel like the tour operator is really only interested in filling their buses. Anyway, if you want to go to Sintra, there must be a better way. Otherwise, I suggest finding other ways to spend your precious time in and around Lisbon.
We booked our tour via Get your Guide. The tour was operated by Lane Tours. We had a good tour with great guides (Mario for the English speaking group and Pedro for the Italian group). We got a lot of relevant information from the guides, and there was a good atmosphere in the group. During the day we got meeting times and meeting points via WhatsApp and it worked perfectly. On our way home we got some tips for the following days. We can definitely recommend this tour. Remember to find a tour where all entrances are paid. But the pick up situation needs to be improved! A lot of busses were waiting at the meeting point in the morning. No signs in the wiindshields of the busses, so people were standing in a big crowd. All the guides arrived and without a “Goodmorning” some of them started yelling: “Move backwards” while placing their hands as if they were pushing us. Then each guide had to shout our names from a list and we could follow them. Suggestion: You wrote an e-mail to us after midnight where you reminded us of the meeting point. I am sure you knew which driver and bus to use at that time. Why don’t you write: Meet us at “Bus no. 20” and place a paper with “20” in the bus windshield. Then our guide could check us in directly. Just a little service to help all save some time and make the start of the day a little less chaotic. Best regards Mikael and Charlotte
Everything was great, Mario was awesome
Marcos was a fantastic tour guide, we had plenty of time to visit the sights we visited and he was well informed. I don’t remember our drivers name but he maneuvered the buss expertly through all the tight turns and switchbacks we had to traverse. Thank y’all!!
Our tour guide for this trip Mr. Liedson was amazing, full of energy, very fun, kind and organized. With great ability to explain the history of the of the sights, in multiple languages! I would definitely recommend my friends and family to join the tour!
Overall we liked the tour. Our tour guide was Lili and the driver Clay were very nice. Lili told many interesting stories about history Portugal, free masons and etc. We saw many spots on the way, although for short period of time, but we managed.
Truly gave a good sense of the area and history around Lisbon. Marcos was exceptional! He used WhatsApp to keep us together and on time, all the while providing nuggets of history. Would definitely take this tour again, though it is a LOT of hilly walking. Not the best for someone with leg or hip conditions.
Clay (Driver) and Marcos the tour guide were excellent throughout the day. Shared lots of knowledge about history and the area, also gave suggestions on what to see and do.
We took the day trip to Sintra and it was very good experience that I surely do it again! Our guide Marcos explained us everything with all the information that we need and even some details that was on spot. We had the opportunity to admire some of the most beautiful landscapes in Portugal and with the help of Marcos and Clay our bus driver our experience was unique. I highly recommend it!!!
It was very good value for money. We visited so many wonderful places. Marcos, our guide was very helpful, kind and experienced. He told us a lot about Portuguese history.
Marcos was very kind a very smile person and the Driver Clei did a wonderful job.
The tour was great n Liedson our tour guide was very informative during our stops at each location. Our driver was great too.
It was a very fun experience with Liedson as our tourguide. He made the whole trip unique and he waited for us as we where to late. That was so nice. I will recommend the trip.
The initial pick up was a bit confusing, with three different guides from the same tour company at the same meeting point. But it was great from that point onwards. Tour guide Lili and driver Paulo were fantastic and looked after all of us, ensuring that we were all present before departing each location. Lili is knowledge and fluently took the tour in both English and French. I’m glad we took this tour - we saw much more than we otherwise would have trying to navigate on our own.
The tour guide, Lili, made the tour fun and interesting. Giving is enough information about the places that we visited.
Marcos was a truly perfect guide throughout the tour; he provided interesting explanations and handled every situation appropriately. Thank you, Marcos!
The tour was excellently planned and organized. Our guide, Marcos, was simply superb—very personable and ready to help with any questions. He shared a wealth of interesting information that is hard to find elsewhere. Highly recommended.
Our first day in Portugal having arrived from Australia. For our group of four.A great day trip. Lane Tours provided an excellent service. Marco was a great guide and communicated well with everyone on the tour. Marco was very informative and had a great sense of humour and was very professional. We absolutely loved the experience and history.
Marcus is a knowledgeable, stern but charming guide who has a dry sense of humor. Viktor drives safely and makes sure we get to our destination on time. We enjoyed the tour and how it is paced. Better where comfortable walking or trekking shoes because there are considerable hikes in this tour. Well worth the money and time. Highly recommended. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Liedson our guide was so knowedgeable. He gave us so much interesthing historical information. I understand so much more the history of Portugal. He is cordial, polite and funny! I had a great Day! Our driver Eric was professional and talented to navigate Sintra’s narrow streets.
