Itinerary
Skip the long lines and visit Castle S. Jorge, the best possible beginning for our journey. Accompanied by our expert tour guide, it will be your fist historical postcard of the city, where you will hear how it has been silently watching over Lisbon for nearly a thousand years!
Lisbon’s oldest neighborhood and a beautiful maze of narrow alleys, hidden courtyards, and laundry flapping in the breeze. It’s where Fado echoes through the streets and every corner feels like a secret. Come for the history, stay for the vibes (and maybe get a little lost , on purpose). Enjoy a tasting of the traditional Ginjinha, the sour cherry liquor so connected with the city that it could not be left out of our tour.
Praça do Comércio, also known as Terreiro do Paço, is Lisbon’s grandest square and one of Europe’s most beautiful waterfront plazas. Once the site of the royal palace before the 1755 earthquake, it now opens majestically onto the Tagus River, framed by elegant yellow arcades and the triumphal Rua Augusta Arch. This iconic space embodies Portugal’s Age of Discovery, where explorers once departed for distant lands, and today it pulses with life, blending history, architecture, and culture. Cafés, street musicians, and the gentle sea breeze make it a perfect place to experience Lisbon’s spirit: open, luminous, and deeply connected to the sea.
Lisbon’s classy bohemian quarter, where poets once sipped coffee and artists argued about art. Today, it’s a stylish mix of old bookstores, fancy shops, cool cafés, and street performers. Think Paris meets Portugal — with better pastries.
Tucked into a Chiado side street since 1732, Bertrand isn’t just a bookstore : it’s the oldest one in the world still running! Imagine centuries of readers, revolutionaries, and romantic poets browsing its shelves. Step inside, smell the paper, and time-travel with a good book.
Praça Luís de Camões, at the heart of Lisbon’s lively Chiado district, celebrates Portugal’s greatest poet and the golden age of exploration he immortalized. Surrounded by elegant 18th-century buildings, traditional shops, and bustling cafés, the square is a meeting point for locals and travelers alike, where the charm of old Lisbon meets its vibrant contemporary rhythm. At its center stands the statue of Camões, watching over the city’s creative pulse. We end our tour here with a delicious tasting of the famous Pastel de Nata at Manteigaria, Lisbon’s beloved custard tart bakery, where the scent of cinnamon and warm pastry perfectly concludes your journey through Lisbon’s history and flavor.

This was a great guided tour through the castle and old town. Dee talked to us about the history of the castle and Lisbon as we walked. She took us to the oldest bookstore in Lisbon and we had time to browse. She was a great guide!

Great experience. Raquel was very knowledgeable about the area and local culture . She made sure we not only saw the local sites and but slay got the back history of the area. Great job! I highly recommend her and the tour.
Fantastic walking tour around the castle and areas of Lisbon finishing at the oldest bookshop. Our guide, Dee, made the tour interesting and informative in a way that was very enjoyable, pointing out lots of things that we would never have been able to find on our own. And so many great stories about the history of the wonderful city of Lisbon. Thank you Dee for a most enjoyable morning and it was great to visit the booksho! Would highly recommend this tour.
This was one of the best experiences I have had thus far. Édi was a phenomenal guide with great recommendations, excellent with answering questions and explaining the significance of each place we stopped and how it is relevant to today.
Knowledgeable guide made the tour fun and interesting! Full of passion and love for Lisbon. Lisbon itself has many hidden treasures, if only some one shows you where to look.
João was very kind and knowledgeable, we learned so much about Lisbon’s past and present from him. Highly recommend!
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour with Joao. He was extremely informative and his knowledge of the towns and castle were quite impressive. He made himself available even after the tour was over by providing us with direct access to his contact information. I utilized this and he responded very quickly answering my question. I would highly recommend this tour.
Raquel is one of the best tour guides I ever had the experience of taking a tour with. We were incredibly lucky that other people cancelled or didn’t show up, so this accidentally became a private tour, and what a fantastic private tour it was. Raquel is incredibly knowledgeable on Portugal’s history and could easily answer the weirdest of my questions with detail. On top of that, she’s super easy going and by the time we left the castle we were honestly just vibing while strolling around the old city. She’s a native from Lisbon, so she can effortlessly give you any recommendations for whichever experience you’re interested in, from food to art, music, transport, even shortcuts across the city’s hills. The tour on its own is already amazing enough, even if you’ve already been to Lisbon it still provides a lot of valuable information and context as to why Lisbon is so unique, and Raquel as the guide just elevates the whole experience. Highly recommend it!
My wife and I wanted to learn more about the history of Lisbon and chose to do this walking tour. It was exactly what we were looking for! Laila was a great guide. Gave informative history of castle and why the occupants built it and laid it out the way they did. Alfama and Baixiada Chiado tours were great, too. Even performed Fado to end tour.

Stefano was a wonderful guide. A true historian! Walking pace was not too fast, just a lot of steps and hills to navigate. Beautiful view from the top of the castle!
The guide knew the answer to all questions and was super friendly! The views from the castle are amazing. Learn from my mistake and wear running shoes though. Had a great time!
Joao was my guide and he was amazing. He was very knowledgeable and just a lovely person. I learned a lot about Portugals history and the walk covered a lot of Lisbon. I was only in Lisbon for one day so this was perfect. Thank you Joao
Miguel was very knowledgeable and engaging
Our guide, Raquel, met us outside the castle and we were the only 2 people. She was great and shared so many interesting details throughout the 3 hours. The views from the castle and other stops along the way were amazing. There is about 4 miles of walking with hills and stairs - both up and down.
Renan Stein is an exuberant, entertaining and extremely well informed multilingual tour guide. The monastery is the crown jewel of Lisbon’s attractions and Renan made the 3 plus hour tour interesting and well paced. Chesapeake Traveler
My tour guide is Renam, he gave me the best day I’ve ever had in Lisbon, I learned the beauty of the culture, the history and the people in Lisbon, I will visit Lisbon again for sure.

We had a fabulous tour today with João and learned all about Portugal and Lisboa history. He is very knowledgeable and made the tour interesting and pointed out all kinds of things we never would have seen otherwise….we walked all over for 4 hours! Loved the tastings of ginginha and pastries. At the end, he gave us lots of recommendations for restaurants, shops etc. A great introductory tour to Lisboa!

My husband and I spent a day in Lisbon and wanted to make the most of our time, so we booked a walking tour with João. He did a fantastic job showcasing his city, and we were able to see and experience far more than we ever could have on our own. Highly recommend João!

Our guide Joao was fantastic! We had the best possible experience. He was well educated, easy to understand and so likeable. He gave us an insight and a deeper understanding for the history and living in Lisbon. And we are so grateful for the hours we spent with Joao, and also for the extra tips he gave us for the remaining time we have in this beautiful country.
Had a great day walking around Lisbon with João today. I happened to be the only one on the tour today and he was very knowledgeable, informative and engaging. I got a glimpse into the history and tried some Portuguese treats. I highly recommend this tour for a first timer like me. At the end of the tour I received a list of recommendations for places to eat, spots to visit and books to read.
My wife and I visited Lisbon from North Carolina and joined the walking tour with João Lopes. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip! João was super friendly, funny, and full of great stories about Lisbon’s history and culture. He kept things interesting the whole time without ever feeling overwhelming. We also loved the local tips he shared for food and hidden spots to check out afterward — they made the rest of our stay even better. You can tell João really loves his city and enjoys sharing it with others. Highly recommend this tour and João as a guide if you want a fun, authentic way to experience Lisbon.
Our family had the absolute pleasure of joining Laila on her Essential Lisbon Walking Tour: Tales, Views and Local Treats, and it exceeded every expectation. Laila is an exceptional guide—warm, engaging, and deeply knowledgeable. She brought Lisbon’s rich history to life with fascinating stories and showed us hidden corners of the city we never would have discovered on our own. The stunning viewpoints were unforgettable, and the delicious local treats she shared gave us a real taste of Lisbon’s culture. What made the tour truly special were Laila’s personal touches and thoughtful surprises along the way—little details that turned a wonderful walk into an extraordinary memory. This tour was without question the highlight of our trip. If you’re visiting Lisbon, don’t miss it—Laila is simply outstanding!
This tour was an unforgettable journey through the city’s vibrant neighborhoods. From savory codfish cakes to sweet pastéis de nata, every bite told a story. Our guide was knowledgeable, warm, and full of local insights. We discovered hidden gems we’d never have found on our own. A must-do experience for everyone visiting Lisbon!
With this company we had Solal one time and Maria the other time and they are extra people who make the tours really very interesting!
Lovely morning, the best part was our guide Simone
Nice tour of St. George's Castle and Alfama. From the castle area you have beautiful views of the city. Alfama, a picturesque neighborhood, with its narrow streets, ...to discover. Our guide, Miguel Alves, shows you the circuit by going to what is important, telling you the history of what you see and the details that your eyes cannot miss during the three-hour itinerary. Great experience, wonderful guide.
