I thoroughly enjoyed this tour! Federico was incredibly knowledgeable and made the experience feel like an engaging history lecture, which I loved. I especially appreciated his balanced approach to Portuguese history, including his willingness to discuss darker aspects like Portugal's role in the slave trade. His thoughtful storytelling made the tour both fascinating and educational. Highly recommend for anyone interested in history!

Itinerary
The visit starts at the Upper Cloister from where you can get spectacular views of all the architectural beauty contained there. We will detail the meanings behind this construction, what it represented for society at the time and its importance in the context of the Great Portuguese Navigations, carried out throughout the 15th and 16th centuries. In the lower section of the Cloister you will have access to important spaces, such as the Chapter Room, the old Refectory and the tomb of Fernando Pessoa, moved to this space in the first half of the 20th century. You will also visit the church from the complex, a majestic building, symbol of the height of Manueline architecture, an architectural style that developed in Portugal at the beginning from the 16th century and which associated late Gothic structures with Renaissance elements
The original pastel de nata. This ancient recipe was created by the monks of the Jerónimos Monastery and has been sold in the same establishment since the mid-19th century.
Built for the Portuguese World Exhibition in 1940, it consists of a garden with a set of 32 coats of arms that refer to the former provinces of the Portuguese Empire
This monument was built in 1960, in commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the death of Infante D. Henrique, known as the main figure of the Portuguese navigations. There are also represented other important characters from the Great Navigation era who contributed to the expansion of Portuguese culture throughout the world.
Another great example of Manueline architecture and served as a defensive point against invaders trying to reach the capital of the kingdom, Lisbon. It is considered a World Heritage Site, attributed by Unesco

Federico was our tour guide - very knowledgeable and explained the history (and context) so well. He was super engaging and friendly to us. I instantly felt that he’s our friend. Thank you Federico.
Federico was extremely knowledgeable and accommodating to the group. Lots of learning and good story telling abilities, that made this tour a great one.
We enjoyed our tour of Belem with Federico. He did a wonderful job providing historical context of the bulidings, so it did not feel like just another tour of a religious building in Europe. Highly recommended!
Wonderful tour with brilliant guide. Freddie was both knowledgeable and entertaining. We misunderstood the start time but Freddie was great about contacting us and waiting to go into the building until after we arrived. The tour gave a great overview of the history of the buildings and the guide’s depth of knowledge was amazing. Nice stop at the Belem pastry shop to enjoy the local specialty and also neat how it was tied in to the history of the monastery. Great first stop on our trip to Lisbon
Federico was great and we learned a lot of history. Jeronimo is beautiful and we enjoyed the walk around Belem Nd the pastry!
Frederico was very knowledgeable and made the experience one not to miss. Highly recommend! You will learn all about the country’s history.
We enjoyed the tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and gave us an excellent history of Portugal and the Belem region. We would recommend this tour.
Luis did a terrific job explaining the history of the monastery, church and tower. It really helped us understand the history of Lisbon. Highly recommend this tour.
Luis was an awesome guide. So knowledgeable and friendly. Good pace and he thoroughly covered the Monastery and Belen Tower. Recommended!
The tour was excellent. Leonardo, our tour guide was fantastic! He was so knowledgeable and delved deep into the history of the Monastery, Belem Tower and the Monument. He made the tour very interesting, giving us details that were so interesting.
This was a great tour. We tied the Jeronimo Monastary and church, Belem tower, the disoverers monument, and a bakery
This walking tour is exceptional. Our guide Leonardo was a wealth of knowledge. He was also very passionate about the history. We learnt so much from him.
This tour was very interesting and very well organised. This was the perfect combination of knowledge and professionalism of our best tour guide (Leo). Thank you Leonard and wishing you all the best in the future.
The tour of Belem was wonderful, highlighted by the Jeronimos Monastery and the Belem Tower. But we must not forget Pasteis de Belem and their famously fabulous custard tart baked in Lisbon since 1837! Luis gave us a thorough historical as the area has become more and more beautiful over time!
Luis did a great job with our tour today. He was very knowledgeable about the history of Lisbon and patient with everyone else Highly recommend him
We had wonderful walking tour of Belem. Our guide Luis was very knowledgeable and friendly. He gave us a lot of historical information. We enjoyed this tour very much.
Luis is a terrific guide. He knows his history and he makes it really interesting. We even got to try the special Portuguese pastry it was included in the tour! We saw so much we saw the Jeronimos monastery, the church , the important monuments on the waterfront and the Belem Tower. We recommend! Group was 18 people and was perfect size.
Visited the 4 major sites in Belem. Loius was very knowledgeable! He easily made adjustments in the schedule to avoid long lines.
Luis was our guide and he was exceptional. Kept us all together, didn’t feel rushed , answered any questions and was extremely knowledgeable. We enjoyed our tour and learned so much about the history of the Monastery and the importance of Belem to the history of Portugal and the explorers. We knew we would get to enjoy a pastry however we were pleasantly surprised to get to see how they are made as well. This is definitely a tour not to miss.
Spending the morning with Luis on this walking tour of Belem and the Jeronimos Monastery was amazing! His knowledge of the Monastery, was incredible and pointing out little things that one would normally miss and the meaning behind was very informative. We highly recommend Luis and this tour.
Absolutely fantastic experience with our guide Miguel. The group was small, only four people, and he set us immediately at ease with introductions and conversation, so it felt like traveling with a small group of friends. We started in Jeronimos Monastery, and spent a great deal of our time there. I couldn’t get enough of it - it is a visual feast, and Miguel was wonderful explaining the history and context of the architecture and sculpture as well as the symbolism of the works. I liked that we were able to jump the line and get right into the Monastery, and I really appreciated that the Monastery crowds are controlled well, so you have a lot of space to experience the surrounds as they were meant to be. We weren’t able to skip the line at the church, but the line moved quickly, and it was super cool to see the tomb of Vasco de Gama and the lovely cathedral. Again, the crowd size is very controlled so you can really enjoy what you are seeing. After that we had some delicious Pasteis de Nata and a walk to the Explorers Monument and Tower of Belem, which aren’t too far. These you just view from the outside, but they are both lovely, and again, Miguel did a great job explaining the history and context of each site. All in all it was a great tour, our guide was wonderful, and it was an excellent value for the price. Recommended.
I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an unforgettable and enriching experience! Our guide, Luis, was absolutely fantastic. His genuine passion for history really came through, and his incredible knowledge brought everything to life in an engaging way. Luis was professional, patient, attentive, and responsive to every question we had. He had great energy and made sure his guests had a great experience. Luis made the tour not only incredibly informative, but also genuinely enjoyable from start to finish. He was outstanding, and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide. (We took the 9:45am tour on Saturday, September 12th. I just want to make sure I have the right name, as I am really bad with names!!)
The guided tour is worth it. Miguel was very knowledgeable and helpful after the tour. I would be grateful if Miguel was on my side for other tours.
This was a great, overall tour of the highlights of Lisbon and very worthwhile. Our guide was quite knowledgable, personable, and easy to understand. He was able to answer everyone’s questions and provided recommendations for additional sites to see, restaurants, etc. Very pleased and recommend our guide, Luis, and tour.
Luiz was a very informative and personable tour guide and had a great knowledge of the area. Highly recommend!
I had a wonderful time in the Belem Walking tour with Federico. The guide was extremely knowledgeable, fun and helped us paint a beautiful picture of Belem in our minds.

Joined the Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Walking Tour with Federico. It was an excellent tour - highly recommend!! Federico was a dynamic and engaging tour guide with immense knowledge of Portuguese history. Through his historical expertise, we were able to appreciate the sites meaningful and understand their significance. Kudos and thank you to Federico!
Federico was a fantastic tour guide. We were very glad we did this tour as we learned so much about the monastery and the monument as well as the history of Lisbon during the age of exploration through the 20th century dictatorship. Would strongly recommend this to anyone visiting the city (especially for the first time) as it gave me a much better understanding of the country’s rich history and culture.
Federico did a great job of showing us all of the sites and explaining why and how each one was made. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. It was a great tour.
It was a very good experience with a very knowledgeable guide and good attractions to see. Good day to be out and about.
Awesome tour with Frederico! He was so knowledgeable and well spoken that he made History fun and captivating. The whole family enjoyed the tour including our teenager.
Frederico was a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable about the history.
Federico was a great tour guide - very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject! Also gave good recommendations for places to eat etc in the area.
It was a wonderful experience. Miguel was a history buff who knows everything there is to know about what he was showing us. He did everything off the top of his head with no notes. The line for the monastery was very long. The cut-the-line benefit was huge. I would highly recommend this.
Miguel did an outstanding job of setting the historical, cultural, and theological underpinnings of Portugal’s many fascinating centuries of exploration and governmental transformation. He also excelled at explaining the aesthetics of the monastery and other monuments!
Very interesting history of the monastery, the first explorers, and the various stages Portugal experienced throughout this time period.
Luis provided a thorough and entertaining tour. His descriptions of the sights gave us context beyond mere architectural details. He readily answered all questions. He was very articulate and likeable.
My husband and I brought our parents on a trip to Lisbon, and visiting Jerónimos Monastery was at the top of my mom’s list, so I booked this Belém tour for our family. Our guide, Federico, was exceptional. He was incredibly knowledgeable about Belém, Portuguese history, and the monastery, and he explained everything in a way that was detailed but still engaging and easy to follow. He was genuinely one of the best tour guides we have ever had. The tour included Jerónimos Monastery, Pastéis de Belém, the Monument to the Discoveries, and Belém Tower, although we viewed the tower from the outside rather than entering. One of the biggest advantages was being able to skip the very long line at the monastery, which made a huge difference in the July heat. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see Belém’s major landmarks while also gaining a much deeper understanding of their history. It was especially well suited for a family group with different ages and interests.
Leo was a GREAT tour guide! He had so much knowledge about the monastery, the sculpture ant the river, Tower of Belem and history of Portugal. It was very interesting listening to his stories. He also kept our son very engaged - which can be tricky. This was a small group and I liked being able to have one on one questions with Leo. This was the perfect amount of time! Highly recommend - especially with Leo!!
Federico was very friendly and gave us a fun and informative tour. We enjoyed learning so much more about the history behind the landmarks. This will make the rest of our trip even richer.
This is a great tour and Luis is a fantastic tour guide with a great deal of knowledge. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area.
Leonardo was a fantastic guide on our Belém walking tour. He had a very chill and easygoing style, but also shared a lot of great historical knowledge at each stop, which made the experience both interesting and enjoyable. He was very attentive to everyone in the group and did a great job making sure the tour felt engaging throughout. It was a wonderful opportunity to see a different side of Lisbon, and the stops we visited — Jerónimos Monastery, Pastéis de Belém, Jardim da Praça do Império, Padrão dos Descobrimentos, and Belém Tower — all added to the experience. Highly recommend this tour if you want to explore Lisbon in a meaningful way.
Luis had been very thorough and professional about the tour we had with him. He’s a pleasure to listen to and answered all of my questions. He’s very well rounded, knowledgeable and very clear in what he’s saying. Overall, I will give him a recommendation for a job well done!
Very good and informative tour. The tour guide, Leo, was amazing, courteous, very knowledgeable and funny. Thank you, Leo!
Frédérick was extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. We had a good time! The pastel de nata was a great bonus!
