A fantastic tour with Jose who was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. He even shared a link to his Lisbon recommendations which was very helpful. Well paced and interesting, the perfect way to learn more about Lisbon and it’s history!

We booked the introduction tour of Baxia/Chiado. The meeting location was excellent and easy to find. Our guide Chiara was brilliant. Before we started walking Chiara gave us an introduction talk about the full history of Lisbon which was really interesting and educational. The tour was very informative and the walk was at a comfortable pace. We enjoyed it so much, we asked Chiara to book us on the afternoon tour of Alfama. Our guide this time was Thiago who was very engaging, enthusiastic and managed to bring humour into his presentation. Again the tour was at a great pace and he showed us some excellent shortcuts to and from the castle to save our legs. Both also provided helpful hints to enhance our Lisbon experience. We would definitely recommend both tours.
Great experience. Informative, fun and a great guide. Highly recommended. Really well organised and the communication was excellent.
We had a fantastic tour of the Lisbon neighborhoods with Telma. She was very knowledgeable and covered a lot of ground and history of everything we saw. She had two special stops on the tour where we enjoyed a local custard pastry and we were able to purchase Ginja, is a traditional Portuguese liqueur. In one of the neighborhoods she was telling us about Fado, a traditional Portuguese genre combining poetry, vocal performance, and the guitarra portuguesa. She ended up singing a piece for us and was fantastic!
Chaira was a great guide & was very informative & helpful. Tour was the right length & done at the right pace. Feel as if I know more about Portuguese history than my own! Excellent.
Very good tour. Guide was knowledgeable in Lisbon history and made it an enjoyable experience. Very informative.
Excellent walking tour. Guide was very knowledgeable and had a real passion for the history of Lisbon. Good pace and care taken to ensure group was kept together. Excellent!
José was a fantastic guide. Very knowledgeable - he gave us a whistle-stop background of Lisbon's history before starting and then knew his stuff around the city, telling us facts, gossip and other information, keeping it interesting and fun and covering a lot of ground . Highly recommend him. Thank you
Good overview of the main city. Our guide was informative. Easy pace. Found some historic places we would have missed otherwise
Excellent walking tour that I’d recommend to anyone. Our guide, Thiago, was really enthusiastic and besides giving us lots of history about Lisbon, he also provided great hacks on where to go and what to avoid. The tour itself was a nice pedestrian pace and did not include lots of steps so accessible for anyone (there was a 70-80 year old on our tour).
Great tour, the guide was super friendly and knowledgeable!
Highly recommended if you visit Lisbon for the first time. The guide, Shiri, was very knowledgeable about Portugal’s and Lisbon’s history and architecture and we visited several historical landmarks. She fully answered all the questions we had. Lisbon is “the city of seven hills” so the walking tour involves some steep hills but the guides know the short-cuts, including using the escalators at the [old] train station. The group was 10 people. We all could hear and see everything.
Tiago was great. He explained the history of the areas where he took us. The churches and the history behind the structures. He was very personable, easy going, answered our questions, was humorous, knew the history of the structures in Lisbon. He stayed afterwards and gave us lists of reasonable places to eat. It was a good size crowd of 16 that attended. I really enjoyed this tour.
Thiago - what a fantastic guide! As a well educated historian he really knows his stuff, but also he knows how to communicate in a proper way with his audience. Not to mention his passion for the history of his (Portuguese) people! The tour was a proper introduction to Lisboas history and sights. Recommendable!
Jose was knowledgeable, informative, and friendly . His tour was very well organized combining local information, and historical context Definitely recommend taking a tour with Jose.
Catarina our guide was great knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the history and architecture of of Lisbon
Walter gave a wonderful tour full of insight and told in a very entertaining way.
Jose was a great guide very knowledgeable and friendly plus informative. Allowed slower members of group to keep up. Would thoroughly recommend
Jose was a fabulous guide and so knowledgeable!! I learned a lot and he kept it interesting! He even showed us short cuts to get around Lisbon!
The visit of Lisboa with Tiago was very interesting. The guide speaks english very well, he gives clear explanations sometimes with humor. As he masters the history of his city, he is able to use a storytelling, the visit turns into an lively experience. He takes care of the group and answers any questions. He is a sweet guy!
It was a great tour and Martino was very knowledgeable about the area. Would recommend!
Tiago was an absolute professional in every sense of the word. From start to finish, he was genuine, energetic, friendly, and incredibly passionate about his city and its history. His knowledge was unmatched, but what really made the tour special was the way he brought everything to life through his personality, enthusiasm, and love for Lisbon. We went into the tour already loving Lisbon, but we walked away with Lisbon at the very top of our list of favorite cities. That says everything about the experience Tiago created. He didn’t just show us the city; he helped us appreciate it on a whole new level. Tiago is the kind of person you could happily spend hours talking with, and someone you’d absolutely love to share a beer with after the tour. He’s personable, approachable, funny, and genuinely cares about making sure everyone has a great experience. If you’re visiting Lisbon, do yourself a favor and book with him. You won’t regret it!
Good tour. Informative and really helped to get bearings around the city. Saw some great sights and learned history
As an American, I had no idea that the price you pay here on Trip Advisor is NOT THE ACTUAL PRICE! That is the price you pay to reserve your spot on the tour. After the tour is over, you pay the guide directly and this is NOT A TIP! It’s also not optional. The actual price is 10-15 Euros per person. You can decide how much you want to give them but you don’t just walk away at the end of the tour. Luckily, I was there with a European who filled me in on this. The tour was fine, but it is a lot of walking and we were all very tired, hot, and hungry afterwards.
Our guide was wonderful and gave an excellent overview of the history and hallmarks in the “new town”. With 20 people we could hear okay, but we had to be close as the city’s are a noisy place. Highly recommended.
Our tour guide, Walter, was an exceptional storyteller and really brought the areas to life. He was so passionate and positive it was impossible not to be captivated. Thank you Walter! Highly recommend!
An excellent walking tour. Kareryna was informative, interesting and entertaining. I would highly recommend one of these tours.
Great tour, very passionate and knowledgeable guide. Interesting info that you might not know.
We really enjoyed the walking tour. Lots of great information, presented in a clear and sometimes humorous manner. Kate was a great guide! Would recommend. The only down side for us was that we arrived early to our meet point and as Kate wasn’t yet there, the other guide (same company) told us to wait in the shade a good few metres away. We waited and at no point were we called over…when we saw the guide heading off we went after her and were told that Kate had been and gone (!) , which was not obvious to us as she wasn’t, at that point, holding an ‘orange umbrella’ - so we had to run after her. We caught up no problem but thought this was a poor meeting arrangement.
Katerina was a great guide and very clear and interesting.
Our guide Kkeiber was exceptional. He is very knowledgeable, personable and transmits a true passion for what he does. He encourages conversations amongst group which made experience very pleasant. Would definitely recommend !
Walter is a perfect guide, you can feel love of Lisbon and humanity through his stories! 🌺
Tour was excellent. Walter was amazing - very knowledgeable, very friendly and passionate about the information he shared with us. Would recommend to everyone.
We had a great rwo and a half hours introduction to the geography of Lisbon and the history of Lisbon, Portugal and its colonies down through the centuries. Jose was a wonderful guide and kept us in the shade and out of the sun as much as possible.
Walter is very engaging and a great story teller. We stood in front of some less touristy spots which you might walk straight past and miss! He made the walk very memorable with all the small details. I’d definitely recommend.
My friend and I did this tour with Jose, who is an amazing storyteller and tour guide. 10/10 recommend — this was the first activity we did in Lisbon, and it gave us a great overview of the city’s history up to today! Truly the perfect introduction to the city. Jose is the best!
Our guide Tiago was very good, very thorough, the only problem was that he talks too fast. In some places it was hard to follow all he was trying to convey. He unswered our questions in details and gave a lot of information, overall we enjoyed the tour.
Shiri was excellent - clear, knowledgeable, joyous and entertaining. She managed the group well and we made the most of it!
Good walking tour - Shili was both entertaining and informative. Paced well and hit the highlights of central Lisbon.
Our guide Kateryna was superb. Her deep knowledge of Lisbon's history was delivered with wit, humour and grace. She made the tour engaging and had time for all questions. The group was a perfect size, and drawn from many nations. She also gave many useful tips for sights to see and places to eat.
Jose, our tour guide, did an incredible job bringing Lisbon to life. Despite the limited 3-hour tour, he skillfully covered Portugal’s intricate history through captivating and humorous stories that deepened my appreciation for the city. The stories about the devastating Lisbon earthquake and the remarkable city’s subsequent rebuilding were particularly poignant. Jose also provided valuable recommendations for off-the-beaten-path places to visit and shared some hidden shortcuts (escalators and elevators) to navigate the city’s hilly terrain. These tips were incredibly helpful, especially after the tour. While the tour cost around 1-2 euros on Viator, I highly recommend tipping Jose at least 30-40 euros at the end of the tour to show your appreciation for his expertise and dedication.
Great way to see historical sights and learn some of the history
“Perfect” was truly an accurate description of our experience. Our guide Walter (pronounced Valter, he cheerfully kept reminding us) took us through Lisbon telling stories of its history adeptly weaving a narrative of its progress from ancient city to the modern world. Our small group of couples was enthralled. I was a bit skeptical of these many positive reviews but “now would take any tour with this company based on my experience.
The tour guide shiri was knowledgeable and kept a good pace , however at the Jewish memorial it was evident that drug dealers were operating literally beside us and it felt somewhat unsafe , unsure if she deliberately tried to ignore or was unaware , clearly this was a “spot”as we witnessed drugs and money being exchanged at least 3 times when she was talking us the history of the church and memorial . Suggest even standing in a different place as felt a little vulnerable . Not her fault but thought needed some awareness .
Best walking tour ever (and I have been on many). Meeting point was very easy to find. Our tour guide was Tiego. He was outstanding. He took us around town and delivered the history with such passion I will not forget what I learned. He was always open to questions and very knowledgable. Tiego also provided us with recommendations for food and view points to see sunset. Which were fantastic, especially el-rei frango restaurant. The tour was about 2.5 hours. It is a free tour so be sure to bring cash for a much deserved tip. This is a must do in Lisbon. Hopefully Tiego will be your tour guide
Our tour with Walter was amazing! He was knowledgeable, easy to understand and very entertaining! Learned a lot about Lisbon.
Walter was so interesting and enthusiastic!! Very entertaining too! He certainly knows his history and we learned so much in just a couple of hours. A wonderful tour!
Kateryna was excellent and very knowledgeable. The length of time was just right. The admission fee is great and it is recommended that you tip for excellent service. Overall, it was a great experience.
Walter was a fountain of knowledge. His manner was extremely friendly, welcoming and inclusive. He took time to provide historical context in an engaging manner and brought to life some of the most famous landmarks of the city. His descriptions of how the city was rebuilt after the earthquake were technically detailed yet also compelling, and he tied in the big personalities of the various eras wonderfully well. The church of St Dominic and it's "cursed" history was an unexpected gem. I hope you are as lucky as we were to get a guide as good as Walter.
Amazing, wonderful, funny, informative - we had a great time Tiago/James was our gide
