Having experienced an excellent walking tour with another provider to open our time in Porto, we arrived at Lisbon eager to repeat the experience. Unfortunately, despite arriving 20 minutes early and waiting for 35 minutes at the designated statues, no one in yellow ever appeared. We even double-checked the date, time, and location on our ticket to ensure it wasn't our error. Thankfully, we found a different provider a few hours later, but this set our Lisbon adventure off on the wrong foot. Judging by the reviews, I doubt this sort of logistical error occurs regularly, and I suspect their tours are exceptional, but I wanted to offer our experience as something to contemplate when selecting a walking tour provider.

Jack was a superb guide, albeit a bit shaky on guitar legends from his hometown. He started with a very helpful introduction and went on from there to cover just about everything we wanted to know in 2.5 hours. It was a long hot climb but the stop for the excellent pastel de nata and the benelyn like ginga were well judged. We got a lot out of it. We followed up on several of his suggestions and they worked
You hear a lot of history from the city and see a lot on this tour. There are plenty of stopping points to see Lisbon.
Natalia was an awesome guide - very passionate and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this tour and if you are lucky! You may get her as a guide!
Tour is very reasonable price but they The tour offers a reasonable price, but they will ask you to leave a tip of approximately €5 or more at the end. Therefore, it is not entirely complimentary. Additionally, conducting thorough research beforehand can prevent you from needing to take this tour.
We arrived three minutes late and the guide was gone! Looking for him all over the square.Very unusual experience. Luckily we could join another guide half an hour after.
Vivian was great! Wonderful information and good tourist tips. A very interesting tour, a little hilly, not too bad, wonderful viewpoints.
ALEX was delightful and informative. He encourages interaction between participants. We all had a great time and encourage you to choose this tour.
It was a great and enjoyable experience. Informative. Loved the older church which had been burned. Enjoyed learning about Lisbon and its history. A great way to spend a few hours
Fantastic, tour guide suggested things and stuff you can save money from the places she highlighted. Good pointers. Lots of walking on steep and narrow alleys.
Luigi was a brilliant and very informative guide. The group was great, good to meet people from far and wide. We got to see stuff and hear about fascinting things in a pleasant relaxed way. Enjoyed the pleasatt walk. Viva Lisboa!
Very complete and interesting visit of Alfama, from the history of the city to its gastronomy, culture and fun facts. I really loved it, thank you so much Kate for this visit and all the extra info and advices!
It was a unique experience. We started from Rossio Square and then we walked through the neighborhoods of Alfama. Our kind guide explained in detail the history of the city throughout the walk. The duration of the tour was about 2 hours. If you visit Lisbon you should not miss this tour!!
We did it on the last day and didn't regret it. I was worried I might hear repetition of what I learned at a audio-guided exhibition in Lisboa Story Centre, but it was rather complementing it with some interesting stories and fact, than repeating it. Glad we did both!
Leonardo was our guide in Alfama today. Not Almada. He is a very happy and active leader and actively involves his group in the leadership. His cheerful nature and humor prepares a wonderful day in Alfama, not Almada. He has great tips and a lot of interesting facts to tell about the history of Lisboa/Alfama. I highly recommend Leonardo.
We went a free walking tour and didn't regret it :) Ninetta answered all our questions we collected for days before the tour :) Thank you, very good thing here :)
Had a great tour of Lisbon with Pedro and was free of risk, You pay what you want. Free to value and free of risk
Pedro was a great guide had a fantastic time with him very interesting tour. Thank you so much pedro
I did a great with pedro in alfama and in bairrio alto. highly recommend discovery lisbon. thanks Pedro
Alfama was a beautiful place to walk around and our guide Pedro really brought the neighbourhood alive! Fantastic facts and history about the neighbourhood and Pedro showed us some cool places to go in Lisbon while we had lunch with him. Overall a very informative and fun tour! Thanks again
Great tour to see local life around Alfama! Toured with Pedro and he showed us everything we needed to see and even had lunch with him at his favourite restaurant!
Absolutely fantastic tour, loads of relevant info given by a superb guide called Pedro , loads of info you wouldn’t learn without a superb guide
We had a great guide called David, that guided us through the beautiful streets of Alfama. We liked to hear the history and his sense of humor made the tour even better for us. It was a nice way to start exploring Lisbon. But keep in mind that even though it’s called ‘free walking tours’ they expect some fee. So as a tip: take some cash money with you. It’s definitely worth it.
We had a fun and informative tour with Pedro :) We saw some amazing views and walked at a comfortable pace! Worth the trip
Leonardo made a super enjoyable and informative trip around Alfama. Not only do you get to learn about the history, you also visit some amazing viewpoints and local spots. And with some great insider tips from Leonardo, you are left to explore Lisbon like a local :-)
It was perfect to have Ninetta as a guide because she makes it funny, easy and all the group enjoyed a lot!
I did the Alfama walking tour with Pedro and it was informative and such fun. The group was diverse and it was wonderful learning about where each person was from. Pedro was an excellent guide!
It was great having Ninetta as our guide. She is well informed and fun at the same time. I liked the pace of the walk. I can say we all enjoyed and got along with each other that we had lunch together afterwords. Best wishes and until next time :-) G
This tour was great. We had David as our guide, and he is very funny and knows his trade very well. 😉
Hello , i like the Alfama tour because it is a lot about Fado music and nice buildings in Lisbon . The best part was this wall with a lot of pictures about Portuguese history . Dorin
My sister and I we had an excellent time in Alfama on one of the free walking tours in Lisbon. Our guide - Manuel - had great stories to tell and made the two and a half hour tour very interesting. We had a great time. The registration and pickup was very easy and afterwards we even had a nice lunch at a local restaurant. Very good:)
Very good tour guide. It was quite interesting two and a half hours around the Alfama area. Manuel knows a lot about the city's history.
Best walking tour I had. Our guide, Leo, makes it really fun, comprehensive, with great alcohol, too.
Gaspar is a great tour guide. We could discover insider places with our guide, tried our first unforgettable delicious Pastel de Nata in Lisbon and learn about the history of the city. Thank you for the tour.
There is no better walking tour than this tour by Leo. He was friendly, engaging and knew his stuff. His invitation to join him for lunch afterwards was an excellent shout. Well done, Leo.
Gaspar Gaspar was a wonderful host with innate knowledge in history. Had an amazing time. Definitely recommend.
Gaspar was a very dynamic guide turning a “history lesson” into a joyful two hour walking tour full of fun interesting facts about Lisbon and Portugal! Even though I’m portuguese (from the north) I’ve learned a lot about my capital and culture. For example I didn’t know that James Bond was created in Estoril!
Great your guide who showed us what's worth seeing in the area. Time for photos/breaks when you like it and generally a nice atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Super 👌 I take a lot useful information from Sabrina Was super great and all it was for free, but of course everybody can give a tips
Ninetta was a great guide for our walking tour of Alfama. She's extremely knowledgeable and took us to see all of the highlights. Would highly recommend a tour with her over other free walking tour companies. 10/10
My tour was with Gaspar across the Lisbon town of Alfama. It was an incredible conversation with friends, very informative, full of surprises, and pleasant. We laugh, had a traditional drink call the Ginja, learned some history, and I was informed about a night trip to experience Fado. I absolutely appreciate the walk and all the insights about the city of Lisbon. I will recommended to my friends and family. Portugal see you later!
Last november I was doing an "eurotrip", and I took free walking tour almost in every city. The tour itself was nice, Alfama is a beautiful part of the city, and I really appreciate what you are offering and doing. But somehow my experience wasn´t perfect. What wasn´t cool was the way of begging for money during the whole tour. If you call your activity FREE walking tour, don´t beg for at least 10 euro per person. That was the first time that happens to me during any free tour. And I am person who appreciate your job a lot and tip every guide. Seems to me it was just rude. Sorry.
I managed despite of the rain to join the Alfama tour with Minetta. She is a credit to your organization and shows what customer service should be. She is intelligent, personable and very informative on the tour. She blended the history of Portugal and Lisbon with very interesting tidbits of local color. Even with the intermittent showers; she showed true professionalism and made the tour very enjoyable. The Alfama part of the tour was the best because it gave the true sense of the culture and flavor of Lisbon. Minetta made the group want to become part of the neighborhood and made me want to live there as a local. She gave sights, sounds and tastes that will last a lifetime. She showed professionalism by offering additional suggestions for other tours which I appreciated. Again she is a valued asset to your organization and I will highly recommend her to anyone coming to Lisbon. I appreciate all that she did.
I took two walking tours in one day - Alfama in the morning and Bairro Alto in the afternoon. I've enjoyed the first tour so much so I decided to take one more. Our guide Pedro was very friendly, knowledgeable, artistic and with a great sense of humour. I really liked his style to tell about Portuguese history finding some interesting or funny facts. At the end of excursion he also showed us places where locals have lunch and shared with us other lifehacks how not to pay extra. We ended our second tour in a lovely cafe overlooking the river and enjoying the beautiful sunset. When I'm next time in Lisbon, I'll also take a tour to Belem and fado tour. Obrigado to Pedro for excellent and super interesting walking tours! Highly recommended (additional bonus - at these walking tours you meet fellow travellers from all over the world and explore the city together).
Nineta was fantastic and very knowledgable on our walking tour , very friendly and was willing to help all age’s
We had Ninetta as our guide and she shared a lot of historical facts as well as cultural context. She was super friendly and even though she’s originally from Hungary, her love for Lisbon is evident in the way she shares her knowledge of the city and personal anecdotes. And for a first time visitor— or if you’re navigationally-challenged like me 😂— it was helpful to have a guide take my sister and I through the small, winding streets of Alfama so that we could enjoy the sights without wasting a lot of time consulting google maps. She also gave us a lot of tips on other fun stuff to do in the city. The tour is free but you tip the guide at the end of the tour.
Great tour with interesting facts by an enthusiastic tour guide. Perfect pacing and a good length too!
Overall this was an ok tour. As a ‘free’ tour I guess it’s understandable that it’s not run in a professional manner. Having said that the tour guide Rita was ok but came across as a bit nervous at times. Considering it went for 2.5 hours - a pretty long time for a waking tour - it didn’t really cover that much content wise. Perhaps it could be sped up and shortened a bit.
Ninetta showed us the intimate side of Lisbon with great attention to details and history. The Ginginja tasting was a bonus!
Loveley tour with our guide Ninetta. A funny guide and a nice tour which wasn‘t boring at all. Really recommend!
