Just fifteen days after the end of Expo 98 (World Expo), the “Parque das Nações” with an area of 330 hectares was born in the same place. With an intense urban rehabilitation in the following years, where formerly there were refineries, warehouses, open dumps and slaughterhouses, became the noblest area of Lisbon, with a modern construction, with a direct connection to the train and Metro that greatly simplified the trips to the center of Lisbon. With the end of the Expo the cultural and business spaces that had been used in the Expo, such as; the Atlantic Pavilion (now the Meo Arena), the Oceanarium, the Vasco da Gama Tower, the Camoes Theater and the Lisbon pavilions and the Lisbon International Fair (FIL), among others. An authentic success since the eastern part of the city thus gained a new neighborhood with a population mostly of the upper-middle class and, according to the data provided by the municipality, it is also the youngest and with more schooling.
Alfama, the oldest Lisbon quarter, this old Medina with small rows and alleys, a perfect defensive system during the Arabah period in Portugal from the 8th to the 12th century, after the Christian reconquest the Arab civilization that lived here were moved to the “Mouraria” neighborhood. Discover Alfama is plunged in the Portuguese authenticity, Fado, the most typical and charismatic Portuguese music, was born in this pour neighborhood in the midst of this melancholy of the Portuguese whom they called “saudade”.
The Saint Antony’s church, built at the exact place where Saint Antony was born near by theres the Lisbon Cathedral, the construction was responsibility of D. Afonso Henriques (first King of Portugal) in the 12th century when the city was conquered by the Moors. The site was the site where an ancient mosque already existed. earthquakes felt in Lisbon having been remodeled over the years in order to present itself as it is today.
Continuing our Lisbon Tour we will visit Lisbon’s downtown, “Baixa” and understand the importance of the terrible earthquake of 1755 and what the same did and change the Portuguese minds and even in the Portuguese architecture. Buildings were built in a completely different way, wider streets and lots of squares, already predicting that something like that could happen again, even with a type of anti-seismic construction of the sec. XVIII, Marquis de Pombal, the statesman responsible for the reconstruction of Lisbon as well as all the economic and social changes born after the earthquake.
At the top of “Parque Eduardo VII” (king of England) we have a wonderful view of the city and we will stay to realize the Portugal / England relationship with several treaties and alliances between, and their effects on the formation of the portuguese colony Brazil into a new independent country. The perfect place to stay to understand why Lisbon is considered the city of the seven hills and also the reason for the designation “Baixa” of Lisbon.
Belem or Bethlehem a district to the west of central Lisbon, a must of Lisbon that combines historic monuments, fascinating museums and very attractive gardens, all of which line the cooling waters of the Tejo Estuary. The place where of Lisbon’s shipyards and harbors, and from here Portuguese 15th century explorers discovered the sea routes to India, Africa and Brazil, commemorating this glorious past, funded by the vast wealth that flowed into Portugal from the colonies. Time to visit the “Jerominos” Monastery from the 16th century, as well as the Belem tower this lovely fortress and the explorers monument.
The visit and degustation into the Pasteis de Belem factory is mandatory, this century-old pastry that didn’t allowed the success change the will of the first members of the family to keep the place unique in the sale of this wonderful Portuguese sweets.
Time now to “climb” another Lisbon hill and know these two neighborhoods so different and at the same time so similar. Bairro Alto neighborhood, known for its crossroads of streets that over the weekend fill with thousands of young people, come to enjoy of what is known as the most bohemian Lisbon neighborhood, next to it we have the Chiado neighborhood where culture and art live hand in hand, or if it is not here that the great majority of theaters in Lisbon are concentrated, as in the oldest bookstores of the modern world.

This was the best tour we have ever experienced! Our guide, Pedro, was able to adapt the tour to my husband’s inability to walk long distances yet he made sure we saw everything on our list. We learned so much about Lisbon. Hugo, Walkborders owner, was delightful to work with in the planning process. His son, Ivo, was a good communicator with last minute details. I can’t thank them enough.
Hugo did a fantastic job showing us around Lisbon! He answered our questions, and showed us many different places around Lisbon!
He is phenomenal tour guide and will provide excellent customer service. His knowledge about the history of Portugal is exceptional.
Hugo was incredible. The entire process was smooth, quick, and easy. I looked through numerous tours and was unsure who choose, and after a recommendation, I’m extremely happy I went w Hugo. Did it as we wanted, our speed and accommodated our young daughter and kept super interesting.
Pedro, our driver and tour guide was informative, funny and a great driver. We enjoyed all the sites and the recommended lunch restaurant.
We were looking for a Lisbon tour and didn't have time to see Sintra, Fatima or tourist shopping, so we wanted a focus on the downtown area and history with a more local flavor. Manual and the driver did a great job in avoiding the crowds by walking the less traveled routes without missing the highlights we asked for. We learned a lot about the history and life in Lisbon while seeing the highlights. We had a great lunch that was devoid of tourists and busy with locals, yet making us feel welcome.
This tour was amazing very informative. Our driver . Pedro was amazing. We covered so much of Lisbon in the eight hour tour. The young man was very knowledgeable a native of Lisbon. I was so impressed could not have seen all that we’ve seen in one trip. We made many stops along the way we stopped and had lunch. It was just fantastic.
Paula was a wonderful tour guide. We told her up front that some of the mentioned stops weren't going to work for us given my husband's disability and our interests. She was great. She modified the tour on the go, and we were very pleased with the tour. She dropped us off in front of venues and parked her car and waited for us to get back. This minimized our walking, which we appreciated. Paula strongest attribute is her enthusiasm fur her home town. And how she knows how to get around all these winding steep roads is truly amazing. I highly recommend Paula and this tour.
Manuel is extremely knowledgeable. He speaks many languages and knows the city very well. I would recommend a walking tour instead of a car tour.
We are experienced travelers and have taken tours all over the world. This tour ranks as one of the best. Our guide, Rubin, listened to what our interests were and customized the tour to fit us. "No shopping". The car was comfortable and Rubin navigated the narrow streets while providing an excellent history of Lisbon. I need a cane to handle stairs and slopes, and Rubin went out of his way to accommodate my needs. We requested lunch in a non-tourist restaurant, and we had an excellent meal. Rubin made sure that someone in the restaurant could speak English. Once again, a wonderful tour of Lisbon.
Rubin was an amazing guide. We are experienced travelers and this was the best tour ever. Rubin is an excellent driver, navigating crowed streets while simultaneously providing an comprehensive background on the sites we were visiting. I am a photographer, and he was very helpful getting me into locations for great shots. His detailed knowledge of Lisbon history was outstanding, and he was able to provide additional information about our areas of interest. Great experience.
Excellent tour guide with broad knowledge of history and always very attentive and willing to pleased us. I will recommend this tour and specially Pedro.
Our driver took us around and didn't engage with my wife and I. He would drop us off and instead of walking with us to the viewing point like other guides he would stay at his vehicle and smoke. We also asked him to recommend a restaurant and he pushed us to a place where he left us to go have lunch with his wife. This seemed to be planned ahead of time. He was fairly knowledgeable about Lisbon but the full day tour could have been completed in a half day. I felt that I overpaid for the value received. He seemed to be driving in circles to extend the tour.
Manuel, our guide gave us detailed history of Lisbon. We stopped at various viewpoints with spectacular views. Manuel also took us to Cintra to see the palaces and the ruins of the Fort Manuel is very knowledgeable in the history of Portugal and I definitely recommend him as a tour guide
Private tour with Vitor was excellent. He outlined our itinerary and then let us adopt it to personalize the sites to ser Was picked up at 9 and we didn’t return until about 630. Great full day of sightseeing Vitor was very flexible with the time needed to see the various sights This was our first trip to Lisbon and he made it very worthwhile
Pedro was a great guide. He showed us a lot of very interesting spots in addition to the planned landmarks. We had a great and a very informative tour.
Pedro was an absolute joy to spend the day with! From his colorful commentary to his suggestions on shops and restaurants we got the best of Lisbon for sure. Would undoubtedly recommend this tour as the best way to see Lisbon in a day!
Manuel D.S. was our tour guide. He was really fabulous. Immense knowledge of the deep history, city of Lisbon, cultural facts, etc. We had quite an enjoyable and educational day. We both drove and walked parts of the city. We also asked for a recommendation for lunch. He inquired as to our tastes and suggested a wonderful local Portuguese BBQ - not only did he make a wonderful suggestion but he spoke to the restaurant to ensure we had a wonderful dining experience and we certainly did indeed. Highly recommend Manuel and this tour.
Great day exploring Lisbon & Sintra with best tour guide Manuel His wealth of knowledge was fantastic Highly recommend Need much more time to explore ancient Roman ruins Absolutely fascinating day
George was excellent he was very helpful and knowledgeable. I think he made sure to answer all questions and I think stayed later than initially supposed too.
We had an incredible tour with Elvira! Her knowledge of the area, history and her driving skills were all incredible. She was very generous with her time and wanted to make sure that our tour included everything that we wanted to see. The entire family really enjoyed the day with Elvira.
We had a wonderful day touring Lisbon with Carlos. While we might have hoped for clearer skies, all the other aspects of the day were terrific. Carlos is incredibly knowledgeable about the city and the places that we visited. He did a fantastic job of customizing the tour for us because of mobility issues concerning too many ups and downs. He did a fantastic job. Lisbon is a beautiful fascinating city and we felt as though we knew it much better after our time with Carlos. We also enjoyed learning about Carlos and his family's life in Lisbon. We asked Carlos to pick a restaurant for lunch where he might eat with his family and his choice was excellent. The food was terrific and the price reasonable. When we go to LIsbon again, as we plan to do, we will contact Carlos to learn even more about his home.
Wonderful private tour with Bruno!! Bruno was waiting for us as we left the cruise ship in Lisbon. He showed us to a very nice clean comfortable Mercedes sedan. The first day of our tour we drove for about 2.5 hours from the Lisbon cruise port to visit the Via Alegre porcelain museum in Ilhavo. Awesome. We had an excellent lunch in Aviero and took a ride through the canals in Aviero in a traditional Moliceiro boat. That evening we drove back to our cruise ship in Lisbon. We were able to see some of the countryside and learn about Portugal's history and industries. Bruno's English is excellent and we had some very interesting discussions throughout our trip. The second day Bruno took us for a tour of the major sights in Lisbon. In addition to visiting the Mother Church we visited an olive oil shop where we learned about how olive oil is made and got to sample several different types of olive oils. My travel companion is a quilter and we also visited a fabric store to buy some lovely quilting fabrics. Because we did this private tour we were able to do the things we really wanted to do during our short time in Lisbon. I highly recommend this company. They were very easy to deal with by email and everything worked exactly as promised!
Carlos was a marvelous tour guide, and our family thoroughly enjoyed our day in Lisbon. He took into account that I was getting over a foot injury and had to limit walking. Nonetheless, we saw and experienced much of Lisbon. He picked a great place for our lunch and got us to all the sights we wanted to see. The Mercedes was extremely comfortable as well. I would definitely use Walkborders in the future. They were very professional and easy to book with.
We thought it was very good, the guide helped us and listened to what we wanted, good historical knowledge about the city, attentive.
Nous avons passé une magnifique journée avec Manuel. Il est un guide exceptionnel et extrêmement compétent. Nous avons appris beaucoup.
It was a pleasant experience. Manuel was very friendly, he taught us about history and architecture, we learned a lot. He recommended a very good restaurant. We enjoyed it quite, highly recommended.
The first... an excellent tour of the city of Lisbon with the support of the guide Carlos Rodrigues, quite attentive and nice... in a very comfortable vehicle.
Complete day we have spent touring Lisbon with Manuel, great professional who has provided us with a relaxed day and at the same time allowed us to know the most interesting of Lisbon. I recommend this private tour in Spanish to enjoy a first contact of Lisbon
The walkboarders guides made us have a much better experience than we expected in Portugal. We were on a couple trip. On the first day, we made the tour of Lisbon with the guide Carlos. A very cheerful guy, who made us love the city. Always taking us to the best points of the city with all the comfort and patience. And with the guide we still have the advantage of not wasting time anywhere, and can make the most of the city, without wasting time in queues (which the pastels of Belém say). And still taking pictures (my wife loved it). On the second day, we did Queluz, Sintra, Caiscais and Estoril with the guide Paulo. Another sympathy. Still enters with you in the attractions to explain each place. Comfortable cars, water available. And I also earned a transfer from the hotel to the airport. Definitely a Service I recommend.
A excursão superou as nossas expectativas, o nosso guia, Carlos, é muito bom e atencioso, conhece muito da história de sua terra e deu uma verdadeira aula de história, além de nos levar a conhecer lugares maravilhosos. Recomendo muito!
We made a 12-day tour of Portugal, starting and ending in Lisbon, including Sintra, Cascais, Évora, Nazaré, Porto, Vale do Douro, Serra da Estrela. From the first contacts and planning with Hugo, to the excellent support by Rodrigo throughout the whole journey, we had excellent support and unique experience. Highlight for Rodrigo, who has deep historical knowledge, which enriched and motivated each visit. Congratulations to the entire Walkborder team, right recommendation to everyone!
We would like to thank you for the attention and availability of the Enterprise in meeting our needs! Always very requested, they made our passage in Portugal even more perfect! I recommend and we will come back to do more attractions with you!
We loved our tour in Lisbon!! The Enterprise is very attentive and reliable. And our guide Paulo Borges gave us a history class show, showing us the main sights, making us understand more deeply each part of the city with all patience and education. I recommend this tour to those who like comfort, good price and cordiality!!!
Excellent Enterprise. O Screenshots were programmed with Hugo by email, always quick, attentive and knew how to make important adjustments. As a guide we had Bruno who started quietly but showing a rich historical and geopolitical knowledge; throughout the tours was observing us and adapting the tours with much attention to the special needs and including fantastic places. Thank you for the caring on this trip!
For the second time we have used the services provided by Hugo's Enterprise, and we just have to praise! They are qualified and take care of the customer in a unique way! Competent guides, prepared drivers new vans, punctuality, cordiality finally.. note a thousand! Super Indico!
Me and my wife arrived in Lisbon very early (7:00 hrs). So I hired the Service to pick us up at the airport and we already departed for an 8-hour tour of Lisbon, as the check-in in the hotels would only be at 15:00. The driver was waiting for us right at the center of the landing, that is, he had arrived earlier to have a good place to position himself. Easy identification. He waited cordially until we bought the cell phone chips for Portugal. He helped carry the bags and we set off for the tour. Modern vehicles (vehicles), the newest that provide this Service. The tour was re-suited to the places with less traffic at the time, which was excellent for stopping at all places that would normally be crowded later. When he said he could say anything about everywhere, for that was the reason he hired a genuinely Portuguese Enterprise, Mr. Pedro showed culture and began to present all the details about the sights and much more. He took us for lunch, after indicating several points in advance, combining with the journey we were making (restaurant of the "Pastéis de Belém"). He left us at the hotel at 4:30 p.m., but if we had breath for more, I believe he would stay with us until the end of the day, introducing the wonderful Lisbon. The return transfer was with the same courtesy and professionalism. The driver arrived at the hotel 15 minutes before the appointment, immediately picking up the bags without being asked. Avoided congestion so much that we arrived at the airport before other people who left the hotel 10 to 15 minutes before us. I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Mr. Hugo personally, but I understand that the task of controlling all the logistics involved for the excellent quality of the Service provided takes his entire time. I'm over 50, I was tired and I'm very detailed. If you met my expectations, I believe that the quality of service is at the level of everyone.
I took a tour in Lisbon and Porto from 16 to 27/09. Tour in Lisbon, visit the cities Sintra, Cascais, Estoril, Fátima, Coimbra, Óbidos, Alcobaça, Aveiro, Porto, Douro Valley, Valença, Santiago, Braga and Guimarães. Great staff since the driver the Mr. Luis, the guides Carlos, Rodrigo all in Lisbon. Already in Porto we counted on the efficiency of the group led by Ricardo in which we had as guides "Ricardinho" and Antônio. I recommend the tours because they are professional quality.
Our first trip to Portugal, the Service that they provided was wonderful, we made tours through Lisbon, Sintra and Caiscais, Fatima, Porto, Gestaço and Vale d'Ouro, simply sensational, the staff with a lot of knowledge and an extraordinary kindness, located here Srs; Hugo from my first contact, and our guides in particular João Meirelles who was of a caring with us and also in Porto Diogo, who lived with me the reunion with my family in Gestaço (moment of much emotion) I thank you very much and sure soon we will return and meet again, because it was not only a Service provided, but the birth of new friends. Hello everyone, Carlos and Irene.
He came to pick us up from the hotel on time, and we toured all the important points of Lisbon (in 4 hours). Better explained and shown impossible! The tour also included a “pateis de Belém” cake, a detail that we loved to know the place!! Highly recommended! It was worth every penny!
Efficiency and sympathy. Everything worked as combined and better. They were super helpful, flexible and friendly. Thank you
We are very used to hiring this type of Service on our trips, but this really surprised us a lot! From punctuality to the quality of the cars, exceptional Service, completely educated and friendly guide, without that boredom to take you to the combined stores to earn commission, avoiding you from getting in the queues of the main sights (we ate Belém pastel in seconds, the queue was huge). High quality Service with great price! Super recommend!!
Very good facts and nice guides who showed me parts of Lisbon that I did not know existed. Will certainly take part of other tours that the company gives!
I took a stop in Lisbon and took a walk around the city. Our guide, sir. Joaquim waited for us for over an hour at the airport, as our flight was delayed. He was of a wonderful patience and good mood!!!! I liked the tour, the explanations and the good conversation our guide. The car was quite spacious, with water and wi fi. It was worth it. I recommend.
We were in 7 people (being 4 elderly). We made 3 private tours with the lovely Rodrigo! No words to describe how pleasant it was! Rodrigo is always punctual, attentive, patient and knowledgeable of the history of Portugal! Super new and clean car, with right to Wifi and water at will! On the last tour, we forgot a photo in the car and the other day he went to the hotel to deliver to us! Hugo and Rodrigo, congratulations!!! Service note a thousand!!! Thank you for making our tour full of good memories!
