Itinerary
See Lisbon through the eyes of someone who calls it home. Your local host will guide you through the city’s layers—from history to modern culture—sharing real insights along the way. This isn’t a scripted tour; it’s a flexible, local-led journey tailored around you. Whether you’re into viewpoints, history, neighborhoods, or street art, here are some stops you might explore:
Start with sweeping views over Alfama and the Tagus River. With tiled walls and flower-draped pergolas, it’s one of Lisbon’s most photographed—and most poetic—viewpoints.
Walk toward Lisbon’s iconic castle and enjoy historic streets, architecture, and tales of Lisbon’s Moorish past. Not keen on going inside? Your host will guide you through equally fascinating nearby spots.
Admire this stunning neo-Gothic lift from below, and if queues are long, your host might recommend a scenic shortcut or a nearby rooftop for panoramic views without the wait.
This hauntingly beautiful roofless convent, destroyed in the 1755 earthquake, offers a striking reminder of Lisbon’s resilience. Your host will share the story behind the stones.
Wander cobbled streets filled with murals, music, and centuries-old charm. As day turns to dusk, your host might recommend a café for a pastel de nata or a viewpoint where locals gather with a drink in hand.

Ricardo provided a phenomenal private walking tour for our group. We appreciated his knowledge of the city and professionalism. Would highly recommend!
Absolutely amazing day. Our tour guide Alex was the best ever who has so much knowledge and passion for the city and its history it just added to our experience. My husband is in a wheelchair, and Alex had walked the route he was planning to take us the day before to check it was all accessible. Can’t recommend Alex enough. Thank you for the most wonderful day and for showing us around your beautiful city x
Ricardo was a perfect guide. He was punctual for our meeting time and place. He was knowledgeable of Lisbon and Portugal in general and we learned a lot from him. He was pleasing to our desires and kind and respectful to all in our group. He went beyond being a tour guide and gave us many recommendations on other topics such as where to buy and find good Portuguese books, Portuguese products and recommended Portuguese movies which was an interest of mine. I recommend him highly and would like to tour with him again on our future visits to Portugal.
Bruno was fantastic as a guide, we booked a full day tour with him while visiting Lisbon. He met us at our hotel and we began our walk of Lisbon to see all the key sights a person should see the first time in Lisbon. Very knowledgeable, personable and maintained a good pace for us. Would definitely recommend him and the tour to our friends.
Leonor was incredibly knowledgeable of her city and fun to be with! Our time flew by. Very highly recommend any tour with Leonor!
My husband and I did a 3 hour private walking tour with Ricardo and we saw so much! Ricardo really knows Lisbon and took us to famous spots on everyone’s list as well as lesser knows parts of the city that added charm and authenticity to our experience. Ricardo was very knowledgeable and kind. We loved spending time with him and learning about Lisboa!
Bruno was a great guide for us on our first day in Lisbon. He was full of knowledge about his city, gave a well-paced and varied tour, that proved to be the perfect set-up for us in the days to come, especially as it came with superb recommendations. Thanks to him we learned tons about Lisbon and had a fantastic stay!
Pedro was an excellent guide. He showed us on foot all over the town of Lisbon and explain the highlights with great detail. He was very laid-back easy to be with and a real pleasure. Thank you Pedro for an excellent tour.
Pedro was an excellent guide, friendly, humerous, happy to answer the million questions i had about Portugal's history, and instinctively went at a comfortable pace for me. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect guide. Thank you, Pedro!
Ricardo is very knowledgeable about Portuguese food and culture. He made our morning together fun and entertaining and made special efforts to tailor the itinerary to our needs.
We had a great day seeing the sites of Lisbon with Pedro. He was very informative & interesting, providing many points information about the numerous neighborhoods we walked. He tailored our time to fit in as much as possible. Thanks Pedro!
We had a great time with Pedro who was extremely knowledgeable about the city's history and architecture. The tour was well paced, and relaxed, yet we managed to see so much of the city. Pedro also had a great sense of humor :) Highly recommended!
I paid 714 euro for a private daily tour with an Italian guide but what I got was what a rasta not-very-clean girl that only spoke Portuguese and some Spanish, not even English. She just drove and left us alone to visit every place and did not say a single word throughout the entire day. During visits, we listened to other groups’ guides and read info on the internet. She picked us late in the morning at the hotel and continued the whole day, having no idea of where to park, no plans for the day, skipped half of the locations expected when I bought the trip. During the day I talked on the phone with the local agency and Viator but they did not help, they just wanted to sell me a trip knowing that they had not a guide available and no refund was provided. Unfortunately our day was totally spoilt and that is not refundable.
Had a wonderful 4 hour walking tour with Pedro. We toured our first full day in Lisbon and we were glad we did. Pedro knows a lot about the history of the city and country and we enjoyed asking him many questions in an effort to learn as much as we could. He has a very easy going delivery. He paced things very well, we stopped at a couple of famous storefronts so we could taste local treats and he made recommendations for places for us to explore on our own, several of which we followed up on. Highly recommend City Unscripted and Pedro.
Amazing private tour exploring the city and getting great recommendations. This is a great way to get an overview of the city to kick off the trip.
Ricardo! What an amazing food walking tour! He is passionate & very knowledgeable about Lisbon. We are very humbled to have had this experience with him & I can highly recommend him. Thank you Ricardo
Let me preface this review by stating I’m usually a 4 or 5 star reviewer. Our tour guide was Paul. Paul was a nice guy, but that’s where it stopped. Paul was not Portuguese, he was from Nigeria. He had very little local knowledge, knew no hidden gems and spoke very bad english with a very difficult to understand accent. He took us to very very touristy places that we had mostly already visited alone. We had to inform him that the famous Lisbon earthquake and tsunami happened in 1755, and that a fish name translated to cod. We expected a tour guide with knowledge of the history and culture of both Lisbon and Portugal, that is not what we got. We were very very disappointed since we had read such good reviews of this company tour. Perhaps if we had been given a different guide it would have been excellent. Ours wasn’t
Ricardo was an excellent host. He took us to some amazing local restaurants and we loved all of the food. He also slipped on some historic aspects to the tour and knew everything about Lisbon. If we go again we shall definitely book again, many thanks, Austin
Ricardo was a wonderful host, shared lots of local knowledge, stories and great food. He was easy to get along with and showed us places we never would have found on our own. Highly recommend!
We had a fantastic guide with Pedro. Took us to great places to eat some authentic Portuguese dishes. Visited some beautiful vistas and learned a great deal about Portugal’s history.
We had an amazing tour of Lisbon with Pedro. He was insightful, knowledgable and friendly. The tour was well paced and offered up the best views of Lisbon, some great food and a good overview of the city.
We had a wonderful tour with Jorge who was informative and took us to the sites we wished to see without rushing us. Highly recommend
Ricardo was a wonderful guide who gave me a solid introduction to Lisbon. I love that he offered me some options on what we could see and catered the tour to me. He also went beyond just the normal food tour -- it was really a thorough city tour with some great food thrown in.
We communicated via email with our guide the day before. We waited at the pre-determined meeting spot for 45 minutes and he never showed up. It was our first day in Lisbon and we were waiting with our two children. Made our first day more stressful than it should have been. Luckily, we grabbed a random Tuk Tuk and turned the day around with an awesome tour.
I don't know enough about Lisbon to evaluate the content of the trip, but it seemed good. My impression is that the history of Lisbon ended and began with the earthquake of 1755. Pedro did well in showing features of Lisbon before and after the earthquake.
I used Viator Tours for two days in Lisbon. As a solo traveler, I had them customize the private tours for me based on the areas I wanted to visit. My tour guide was Carlos Sousa and he was marvelous. Over the two-day period we visited downtown Lisbon, Sintra, Obidos, Alcobaca, and Nazare. Carlos is amazingly knowledgeable about local history, culture, and food. If you book with Viator, ask for him.
Ann Elise provided a delightful experience and a great introduction to Lisbon. Her food location choices, taste choices, and sip or gulp choices were varied and superb. We took her recommendations for followup ideas and the rest of our vacation was elevated. Ann customized this tour to our preferences and exceeded our expectations. This is a must do introduction to Portugese food and Lisbon by a very skilled and knowledgeable pro. Highest praise and Kudos!
Anna Elisa was amazing! She was so very helpful and planned the perfect excursion for our needs! She incorporated useful information and history seamlessly into the tour and gave wonderful suggestions as to where to shop, but food and things to do! It was perfect for our needs and we enjoyed her company immensely!
Anne was absolutely great in showing us the city and its hidden gems and in taking us around in the charming streets of Lisbon. She perfectly managed to adapt the 3-hours tour to our interests and requests. She immediately made us love the city and its traditions. She is a young but extremely knowledgeable local who knows almost everything about the city and its history. Anne is very friendly and open too. We found in her a friend and we kept staying together even after the tour, tasting ‘vinho verde’ in an unknown but typical place in Alfama. Thank you Anne!!
Pedro was knowledgeable, flexible, and friendly. He set an itinerary that hit up all the spots I wanted to see and have a great introduction to Lisbon. Highly recommend
We booked a 4 hour tour with Pedro. He led us through the City in a thoughtful, organized and visually spectacular route. Knowledgeable in the history, culture, and everyday life of the city, Pedro was an excellent guide. As a professional photographer and journalist, he offered a unique, fresh and delightful perspective of a city we were visiting for the first time, but will hope to revisit. Thank you Pedro!!!
Genta.speaks excellent English and conveyed to us many interesting historical facts during our walking tour to attractions around Baixa. She has a wonderful and enjoyable personality. On one of our rest stops we had the famous Pasel da Tata, hot out of the oven!. Genta also gave us suggestions for things to do on our own and a great restaurant recommendation too. Genta's tour far exceeded our expectations.
I had very limited time as I was on a business trip, and I don't like big tour groups so I decided for a 3-hour-private tour. AnnElisa was a fantastic local guide and showed me lots of places that a tourist would probably miss out on. She was also very attentive to my wishes and requests and was very knowledgeable about Lisbon and its history, but also its current hotspots and nightlife. It basically felt like walking through the city with a friend. Highly recommended!
Lisbon is a wonderful and charming city, even on a rainy winter day! There's so much history and culture which is not really accessible for those who don't speak Portuguese and attractions which are amazing and not included in any English language guide book. My Local Host helped connecting to the real soul of the city and discover things I could have never found on my own. Plus, when travelling solo, it's nice to meet up with a friend for a chat and a laugh!
