Itinerary
The story of Lisbon is inseparable from the river, that large gateway to the Atlantic ocean. This square is a perfect starting point to explore the city as it offers sweeping views over the Castle Hill and the Old Town framed by the broad mouth of the Tagus river.
The happy coexistence of exquisite ceramic tiles (azulejos) from different ages and styles in the two platforms of this balcony is a very good metaphor of Lisbon (mixed) identity.
Admire the Baroque St James church, where the Portuguese "Camino" to the holy city of Compostela stars, but explore also quaint Largo do Contador, with residential houses prior to the 1755 tsunami
Explore the residential half of The Castle of St. George, including the brand new Recolhimento garden and belvedere, opened to east side of town
Ruins of the first monument properly built in Lisbon under Caesar Augustus rule (end of the first century BC), expanded in AD 57, when it was dedicated to Nero. Buried and forgotten, the archeological site was only reopened to the public in 2015.
First and only remaining Romanesque monument in town, the Lisbon Cathedral is half a church, half a fortress. Some say it's almost a new medieval cathedral, as it was radically rebuilt in the 30's of the 20th century.
Tradition says this church was built on top of the room where Saint Anthony was born. That room is now the crypt of the church (rebuilt after the 1755 tsunami), one of the most popular in Lisbon. But is St. Anthony or St. Vincent the Lisbon favorite saint?
Amazing Roman tombstones embedded on the walls of a XVIII century residential building
Lisbon finest square is open to the river (and the sea) and was completely rebuilt after the 1755 tsunami like a theatrical setting. Admire the Column Pier, King José statue and the monumental Arch, plus the many events staged all year round on the square.
One of the finest facades in the late Portuguese Gothic style, full of Royal symbols, Grotescos and Esoteric suggestions

Luis was the perfect guide for my wife and me. He was easy going, completely flexible, and personable. Having grown up here from childhood, his knowledge of the entire area is deep, especially about history. We were privileged to be with him for three wonderful days. We recommend him highly!
What a wonderful trip. We learned so much about Lisbon from Luis. So knowledgeable on the history. Highly recommend his tours.
Mariana was a fabulous tour guide. We tried several different foods, wine and desserts while touring different neighborhoods. She had extensive knowledge of Lisbon’s history and culture. Highly recommend a tour with Mariana.
We communicated with this operator well before we left Canada. The timeliness of his communication was excellent, and very timely. A few days before the tour, he made sure we were aware it might rain, and to be prepared with a coat and umbrella. He also gave us great instructions on where to meet. Luiz was waiting in the planned spot 15 minutes early. Hi tour was extremely informative, with a lot of Lisbon history. He gives you the opportunity to go here or there, very flexible. I highly recommend. ps since the tour he has given us recommendations for numerous places to eat.
Very good food, service was great. We had the fajita burrito and the taco salad. My wife loved the taco salad. I like the burrito, but there was something a little off about it, sour or vinegary or something. It was a pleasant experience, hate the parking on the street. Have to find somewhere different to park.
Luis was a considerate and very informative guide and it was lovely to explore the Alfama district on a private tour. Very reasonably priced in comparison to others.
Luis is a fantastic guide and cares so much about the history of the city. He has a wealth of knowledge about the architect and how Lisbon has changed over time. I highly recommend his tour.
This was an excellent tour for both history and to see places and things you would never notice by walking alone. Luis knows so much about Lisbon and could answer any questions we had and more. Highly recommended to start your trip and we finished at the popular bifana shop to end with lunch!
Thanks Luis for the fab (and very interesting) walking tour. Your knowledge of the area and associated history knows no bounds. We also much appreciated your recommendations for lunch and dinner. Perfect!
This was a great tour It was private and Luis was amazingly knowledgeable If you are curious about the history, culture or anything about Lisbon, you must take this tour! Take it early in your visit so you can have a better appreciation of the city through the rest of the trip 100 percent great tour!
Luis is a great tour guide. His "other life" as a travel journalist and photographer gives his tours a different feel than others I've taken -- more integration of art and culture with history and general points of interest. He points out interesting visual aspects that others might pass by. He shared stories about past and present neighborhood regular people, reminding us Lisbon isn't a museum or tourist haven, but a real working-living city.

Luiz was a great tour guide and we walked up and down Alfarma. We stopped for coffee and our tour wound up lasting close to 4 hours but it went by so quickly. Luiz as very knowledgable and was prepared for any questions we asked. We would highly recommend this trip.

An extraordinary walking tour to go back in time to the construction of the city and the discovery of its past ( architecture , cluster of the city ).A passionate guide who holds many anecdotes.
Thank you Luis for making me discover Lisbon from an authentic and cultural perspective! Beautiful exchanges and a beautiful experience that I recommend to everyone solo, as a couple or as a family... Luis is a very erudite guide who speaks wonderful French and who is at your disposal. See you soon for a next trip to Lisbon - Myriam 42140 / France
Many thanks to Luis for his kindness his listening and his historical and cultural knowledge of Lisbon which allowed us to discover the real Lisbon
I went on vacation with my husband and some of my family. Knowing a little, I wanted to deepen my knowledge of the city. Luis met all our expectations. We met a very talented man, who made us discover re-discover Lisbon. A major culture (political, historical, urban, artistic), brought in an informed, relevant and evolving way. Good availability. Very nice surprise. Thank you very much.
a very nice time spent with Luis. he speaks excellent French and gives lots of little details. nice experience. feel free to do so.
I have already visited Lisbon many times, including on a guided tour. This experience with Luis was more than just a visit. A lesson in the history of the city and its inhabitants. My wife and I suddenly had a different vision of the city. Really interesting.
