João is an amazing tour guide giving energy and interest to the story behind the tour. This is the best way to get an overview of Lisbon and to feel the city. We had a private seven hill tour which includes several interesting stops.

If I could give a six star review I would. João was very helpful in planning our tour (accounting for the moods of three teenagers is not easy, so we had to keep it shorter and interesting). We ended up booking a 90 minute tour of Lisbon and it was perfect (and very reasonably priced). João arrived early and we zipped through the streets while he fed us information along the way. He has a great voice and was very knowledgeable about local history and culture. João is a fully independent operator and you can tell he loves what he does. He showed us all the main sites without lingering too long, and with just enough full stops along the way to keep it interesting. I plan to recommend João to everyone I know. Book with confidence.

Of the experiences we enjoyed while visiting Lisbon, João was, without doubt, the best we had! And the cost ... as reasonable as can be! We asked for a tour tailored to what we wanted to see and do and we asked for a specific time and tour length as well. João exceeded all of our expectations. He is professional, extremely knowledgeable, pleasant to talk to, very entertaining and, we believe, unbeatable as a tour guide for the city. It is easy to tell João is passionate about his chosen career. Not only was he able to recommend a restaurant for dinner, he took us right to the door at the end of our tour. What a great two days with Joaos Journeys! We were fortunate enough to book two separate days with Joao for four adults. He was so thoughtful and even had a birthday treat for the birthday girl who was celebrating a "significant" one. The first day was an epic overview of Lisbon. We got to see all of the highlights and learn the history and culture of this unique city. The following day we went with Joao to Belem - what a beautiful area! This was a great way to build on all we had learned and seen the day before. Joao was professional, easy to work with, thoughtful, fun, energetic, and everything you could possibly want in a guide! All four of us would recommend him without hesitation.

Our tour with João was everything we expected from all his other excellent reviews. It was four of us and a custom 7 hour tour where he picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel (thank you!). I first learned of him through the Tauck Tours forum as THE recommendation for the day prior to our Douro land and river cruise tour. João's journeys was also recommended on Reddit and have seen his posts on Facebook. João was personable, engaging and was able to share so much of Lisbon's history with us. For people visiting Lisbon, if you did not know, it is very hilly and some very narrow streets. The advantage to a tuk tuk is you aren't walking up and down the hills (given it was a 90° day I was extra grateful), and the little tuk tuks can bring you to places to which no bus tour can venture. We also dined at a "locals only" restaurant for lunch where João translated for our meal. That day was a great introduction to Lisbon. Thank you João!

We had a great experience booking a tour with Joao! We saw and learned so much but never felt like we were rushing between the sights. Joao makes the best tuktuk tours! We did a 4 hour tour and the time flies. You can tell that he enjoys telling his city stories in a fun but very informed way. Both kids and adults enjoyed this tour, our kids asked to go again.

Our tour with João was amazing! He is everything you want in a tour guide - knowledgeable, friendly, local, a good driver and just genuinely a very fun person to converse with. Me and my partner visited Lisbon and booked the LGBTQ+ History of Lisbon Tour and could not be happier with the result. João showed us the rich queer history of Lisbon intermixed with showing us more general historical landmarks and beautiful views. The tour felt very personal and catered to our specific interests, and it was special to see just how beautiful the queer history of Lisbon is with someone who knows the city and scene so well. I could not recommend João enough! Even if you aren't doing specifically the LGBTQ+ tour João proved to me that he'd deliver a wonderful and entertaining experience no matter which tour you book!

We pre-booked our tour with João before arriving in Lisbon and he was great from the start by answering my questions via email. Once the day came he communicated to confirm our meeting point and time, which is always nice. We did the two hour romantic tour and I wish we could have done even more! João was super knowledgeable and friendly, it was like hanging out with a friend while learning bout the city. Ricardo was our guide and he was excellent! Supper accommodating and allowed us to see the sights and views we were curious about! We needed a bigger tuktuk than the one first available to us and he was able to rebook us to a different day so we would have a more comfortable ride! We don't do tours — they're not our style. We like to go at our own pace self-directed, and explore the city. But when our trip to Lisboa was cut short due to flight delays, we decided to book a tour to make sure we got the highlights. We were so pleased with João's tour that our attitude might be changed. João is such a pleasant, knowledgeable, and communicative guide. As we rode on the tuktuk through Lisboa, he made sure we saw key sights peppered in with some fun facts and added context. Tailored to our interest, he also took a quick detour to show off some beautiful street art from the growing street art scene. As we were wrapping up, he offered some other recommendations for things to do, based on what we were curious about. We'd highly recommend this tour to anyone — probably early on in your trip to help your orient to the city. We found that we had a much better understanding of the overall geography afterwards.

Each tour has been truly wonderful. João takes you to a well-curated selection of places, but what's best is how he makes them come alive! Feel extremely fortunate to have found a recommendation to Joao's tours on a reddit thread! Joao was very quick to respond to my enquiry on instagram, and booked us into a tour the same morning we enquired. Joao taught us a-lot about the history of Portugal, and sprinkled in some very interesting facts about his city. Not only does he have a wealth of knowledge, but he is so funny and personable that you don't even feel like you're learning. An added bonus is that the tuktuk is electric which made it really easy to hear him. We are already thinking about which tour we want to do with Joao next.

My friend and I hired Joao for a tuk tuk tour while in Lisbon in September. We were interested in seeing some of the "usual" historical sights but also wanted to see the street art of Lisbon. Joao was so accommodating in creating a custom tour with our interests in mind. We didn't expect him to be as knowledgable about the street artists as he was. He made our tour special with his easy, friendly personality and broad knowledge of things old and new!

We took a tuk tuk tour with Joao's Journeys from the Baixa up toward (but not to) the Castelo and wound our way back down to Alfama. Joao is a native of Lisbon and his knowledge of place and passion for history made for a very enjoyable hour and a half tour. This area is quite hilly and there is much to see so a tuk tuk is a good option to get the lay of the land before setting off later on foot for further adventures. Highly recommended!

We had a fantastic time with Joao! His knowledge of the sites and history of was top notch and he patiently answered all of our questions. The view of the city overlooking Castelo (I can’t remember the name of the hill) was breathtaking. He also suggested a best place for fado in Alfama and a restaurant for the specialty of pork and clams in pepper sauce near where we are staying.
